• Recall 208357 [USA]: A damaged engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash. in addition, oil may leak onto hot exhaust components, increasing the risk of a fire.
  Hyundai motor america (hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2020 elantra, 2019-2021 kona and veloster vehicles equipped with 2.0l nu mpi engines. The piston oil rings may not have been properly heat-treated, which could result in engine damage.
  dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine, free of charge. In addition, hyundai will deploy piston ring noise sensing system (pnss) software. Owner notification letters were mailed august 24, 2021. Owners may contact hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460.

• Recall 2021252 [Canada]: Engine
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the engine's piston oil rings may be defective. This can cause engine wear that can lead to increased oil consumption. Eventually, this can create abnormal engine noise and the oil pressure warning light may turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with these symptoms, the engine could fail. Note: this only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.0 l nu mpi engine. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the engine. The engine will be replaced, if necessary. Hyundai is also developing a piston-ring noise sensing system (pnss) software update to be installed when available; it will alert the driver of potential damage before an engine failure occurs.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, an abnormal sensor signal to the integrated electronic brake (ieb) system could cause a sudden reduction in braking performance. If this happens, a brake warning light will turn on in the instrument cluster. Safety risk: reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the ieb system software.

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). After loud explosion sound, the engine stalled 3 times recently while driving and today. No brake, hard steering wheel, and almost bumped the car front of me. I took my car to a dealer last week and they said no fix despite of safety recall. Without any warning, first it happened 3 weeks ago.

I had a flat tire (passenger side right front tire). Triple aaa removed tire and replaced with my spare tire. While driving to the hyundai dealership, massive clouds of smoke poured out of my exhaust pipe in rear of car. I also had trouble steering the car. The result of using the spare tire burned the transmission fluid (also contained metal shavings). The transmission had to be replaced along with the fluids in my car.

Vehicle hesitates to accelerate easily and gas peddle must be sharply applied to move forward. Symptoms occur daily when driving on city streets.
