  • Recall 124508 [USA]: If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
    Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 chrysler 200, 2010 chrysler sebring, 2010-2012 dodge caliber and 2010-2014 jeep patriot, compass and dodge avenger vehicles. The occupant restraint control (ocr) module may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.
    chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ocr, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners that parts are not available yet were mailed on october 26, 2016. The recall began on august 15, 2017. Owners may contact chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is s61.

  • Recall R/2014/033 [UK]: Daytime running lamp functions incorrectly when indicator is activated.
    It is possible that the daytime running lamps (drl) do not function correctly when the turn signal indicator is actuated. The opposite drl (rather than adjacent) may turn off when the turn signal is activated. This could result in confusion for other road users.

  • Recall 2017585 [Canada]: Label
    Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 205 - glazing materials. The rear lift gate glass panel is labeled with the luminous transmittance number “as2” instead of the correct number “as3”. Correction:. No corrective recall action is required as the technical non-compliance condition is deemed to be non-safety related.

  • Recall 2016448 [Canada]: Airbag
    On certain vehicles in certain types of crashes, airbag and seatbelt pretensioner deployment capability may be lost due to a short in the front impact sensor wiring affecting occupant restraint controller function. Failure of airbags and seatbelt pretensioners to deploy in a crash (when warranted) could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the occupant restraint controller module.

  • Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20210917

    From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. I was driving my vehicle at the speed limit (60-65 on freeway) the tachometer soared to about 3500and the vehicle made a noise. It lost all power and i had no control. I almost hit another motorist trying to get off the freeway. When i turned left or tried to at the top of the exit the vehicle wouldn't move that's when the transmission temp indicator light came on. I finally turned left and the vehicle traveled about 2-5 mph. I stopped at a gas station and looked the light up in the owners manual. According to the manual if you put the vehicle in neutral and idle for a bit the light will go off. We did so and then drove around a bit sending it still wasn't right we then went to a service station who put tranny fluid in it. And we continued to drive home. About 3 hrs later, the vehicle tachometer started to climb again. We pulled over again off the freeway in safe location. I called emergency roadside assistance. Vehicle was towed to jeep chrysler dealership. Once the dealership had time to inspect the vehicle i was told the cvt transmission was ruined. This is the first time we took this vehicle anywhere further than 20 mins from home! This transmission is a known problem as the warranty manual stipulated. It's unsafe as and my family lost power and almost hit a car without any warnings. I've called chrysler and they won't do anything about this issue. On this particular day we were in hilly southern ohio on a hot day. Seriously how is it fair or even legal to sell such a vehicle that won't stand up to typical driving conditions without threatening my life? This tranny is junk it's all over the internet. The dealer we got our rental car from said he wouldn't buy them or sell them because they are a mechanical defect. The vehicle started to lose power when approaching an exit ramp. In addition, the emergency and transmission temperature warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to drive going through an intersection at 2 mph. The contact was able to coast the vehicle into a fuel station. The contact checked the owner's manual, which indicated to allow the vehicle to idle and place the gear shifter into neutral. The contact performed the steps, but the failures recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who added transmission fluid to the transmission. Afterwards, the contact continued driving and the rpms increased to 2,700. The vehicle was coasted over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to reineke motors chrysler dodge (located at 1045 e wyandot ave, upper sandusky, oh 43351, (419) 549-9284). The mechanic called the contact two days later and diagnosed that the cvt failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Around 80,000 miles my car stopped accelerating and appeared to stay in 1st gear (i drive an automatic). Luckily, i was driving on a residential street. Then the check engine light, the traction light, and a red lightning bolt light turn on. For 5 or more minutes then continue on until it starts over again. This has happened multiple times. No one can figure out what is wrong with the car. I took to dealership and they said they can't tell me what is wrong with out the light being on at the moment i bring it there, the light comes on and the vehicle shuts down no possible way to even drive it when this happens, i have had numerous people trouble shoot and seems like they are just taking my money and not solving this issue, it seems to be a factory issue and needs to be fixed, being on the highway at a fast rate of speed and loosing power is unsafe. 2013 jeep compass transmission fill tube broke off. It appears to be a manufacturer design defect as it is not in a place where it could be bumped or broken driving the vehicle. Discovered the issue driving on a city street and heard a noise. I had not hit a bump or run over anything. An online search showed that this has happened often in different jeep models 2011 and later. Dealer refuses to fix it due to it not being specified in the warranty. There is no reason for it to be in the warranty as it is not a serviceable part and should never need to be replaced. We contacted a couple of other auto shops and were told each time they can't fix it because they don't even have that part in their systems and have never heard of this happening.

While driving, banging noise from rear and front suspension was heard. Squealing noise (metal on metal) also heard from brakes. Mechanic inspected undercarriage and saw undercarriage was thoroughly rusted which damaged front and rear suspension and brakes. Was informed of danger in driving and advised to get to dealer immediately. Brakes damaged inside to the outside due to rust. All brake system parts were replaced. Mechanic also had to grind away rust to prevent further damage. Mechanic claimed this was the worst amount of rust he had seen in 20 year career. Repairs totaled $784.44. May also have affected radiator as well. Heat now not working and prestone turns red from rust.

In the summer of 2016, the cvt transmission started overheating. It was a very dangerous situation, as the car would lose power on the highway. You would have to coast to the shoulder and sit there for 20 minutes for the car to cool down. However, when we would take it to the dealer it would not show any error codes. This happened many times. We finally took it to another dealer and they had heard of this issue. It would happen very oftenon days with high outside temps. The other dealer replaced the cvt transmission last summer under warranty. However, this may as soon as it started to heat up outside, it started again.Again no codes when they check. This is happening every day. Now the dealer refuses to help. From what i have found on the internet, this issue is way to common on this transmission.

I bought this car from a dealership 3 months ago and it had 41,000 miles on it. I have since driven an additional 3,000. This morning as i was getting on the highway, the 'electronic throttle control' light came on and caused my car to stall twice. The highest speed i was able to go was 30 mph. This is very dangerous as i was in motion on a busy highway. When i bought the car, the dealership claimed to have checked the car entirely for problems yet i am having to carry it back for maintenance. This morning a light flickered on then off, so i looked in my user guide to see what it was. It was the electronic throttle control light. I was in the middle of accelerating onto an interstate, which could have been fatal. I am more than pissed right now. I had been a devoted chevy fan for years, and wanted top give jeep a shot. But at this point, i'm ready to ditch this lemon, and go back to my chevy roots.

The light comes on the car begins to make a whining noise and the car begins to lose speed or power. I than have to cut on the heater at a high temperature to help with circulation to the area. The vehicle was in motion going uphill 3 separate times, once in a 30 minute drive (70 mile round trip), the other 2 times, both 3.5 hours in( 300 mile trip one way) and the transmission light came on. The car began to decelerate rapidly and on the 30 minute trip, i had to turn around and start going down hill as the car would no longer go up hill. The 2nd time, i happened to be by a walmart, after a 3.5 hour drive, going uphill for about 15 minutes after decelerating to about 30 mph in a 70 (3-5 degree grade), and bought some transmission fluid and added it to the transmission. It appeared to do the job ( the rest of the trip was downhill), but on the return trip home 3 days later, 3.5 hours in and going uphill 3-5 degree grade, the car started to decelerate and would not go above 50 mph for the remainder of the trip (5 hour total trip one way). After making it within 30 miles of being home, i started running into surface street traffic and during the stop and go the car would accelerate very slowly and showed very little power. The car has 76k miles and i would not expect this to happen to a relatively gently used car still under warranty.

Fuel emissions system. Repeated check engine light warning indications have been seen in this vehicle over the past year. Repeated trips to the dealership for service resulted in components being replaced erroneously. Most recent replacement required entire replacement of fuel tank and hoses due to excessive corrosion and deformation of the tank. The vehicle has approximately 65,000 miles of operation. This repeated issue has cost several hundreds of dollars in unnecessary repairs, lost time from work, and extreme concern over the safety of the vehicle's fuel system and emissions monitoring components. Degree of corrosion and level of failure on seals as reported by service technician seems very hazardous for the age and use history of vehicle.

While accelerating on an on ramp the electronic throttle control began to chock off power to the engine and began an eradicate pulsation causing the car to slow down. There was a delay and then the throttle kicked in. The indicator light turned off. About fifteen minutes later the car was slow to accelerate. The warning light, flickered but did not stay on. The engine only has 46,000 miles on it and is mostly driven on flat roads.

My car was basically coasting as cars and tractor trailers were flying by me at 70+ mph. I managed to get off the road safely, and all the lights on my dashboard were going crazy. Takata recall- i was driving down the interstate at about 65 miles per hour and noticed that my jeep started to slow down even though i was pressing the gas pedal. Fast forward a few months, my teenage daughter was driving and did the same thing. She managed to get off the road, a 4 lane major highway, safely and call me. Called the dealer and had it towed. Was told they checked everything over and reset the computer it should be good to go. Again, car was fine for a little while and the whole process started over. Again, the third time, had it towed to the dealer. They called and were unable to replicate the issue and could see nothing wrong with it. Their advice was the next time it happened to leave the car running and have it towed to them still running so they could see what was going on.This had been going on for 4 years now. Really, that is your expert advice. I do not drive it much anymore and had to purchase a new car for my daughter because this thing is a death trap. Cant wait until the day i can unload it, will never own another jeep in my life.

There is a severe problem with the electronic throttle control. This started as a minor annoyance and now i cannot drive my car. Driving on the highway the red lightening light starts flashing and i lose all ability to accelerate my car. It is very dangerous driving 70mph and having to abruptly slow and pull to the side of the road. This now happens everytime i drive my car. I will be driving around town and will continuously have to pull over to turn my car off. Now i cant even turn my car on without the electronic throttle control light on. The car idles rough and the handbook say to turn the car off immediately when it does this. This almost left me stranded in the middle of the night from driving over the pass. I started having problems in 09/11/2015 with my rear right control arm the rubber bushing gave out and the control arm was squeaking very loudly, i complained to the dealer and they gave me a goodwill service charge of $100 but after i asked if the control arm on the left also went bad would they also honor the goodwill they told me that it would be my problem. The left side of the rear control bushing has gone bad in feb of 2016 now i have to fix this thing. I know that if it fails completely i could have a control problem. Would you please look into this. I have called chrysler jeep and all they said that it is not a recall but i know that other jeeps are have this same problem. I bought this jeep june 25th 2015. I have had it in the shop 3 times, and i continue to have the same problem. The problem is with the traction control system. Repairs have been done to the traction control system even before i bought the vehicle. The car fax shows where it had been in the shop to have the struts were replaced back on april 25, 2014. It also shows that it had to have two tires replaced on 6/8/2015. I have taken the vehicle in 3 times to have the same issue corrected. Work orders from 7/18/2015, 8/25/2015 and 9/3/2015. I continue to have problems with it that i do not drive it. I feel it is unsafe. I feel any moment i could cause an accident that could hurt myself or someone else. The vehicle has swirled two times on me so bad that it almost caused me to hit the wall. If i had not stopped the vehicle fast enough, i would have hit the wall. If a car would have been on my right, i would have hit it. The vehicle had to be towed from the service road of the highway.

Slowing down to exit, my daughter perceived a burning odor inside thecar, i tried to keep reducing the speed but the car accelerated by itself and the steering wheel locked, the exit curve was in front of us and thanks god we crashed into the sidewalk border, where the car went over the grass with the front right wheel, scratched the underneath and that allowed us to get out of the grass and stop the car. At that time i tried to stop the car by shifting into another gear and also tried pulling key out of the ignition. I rented a 2013 jeep compass from enterprise in houston. While exiting the vehicle, the shoe on my left foot snagged on an obstruction on the left side of the floorboard. While freeing my foot, i inadvertently unlatched the hood. I failed to notice the hood was unlatched until i was on the interstate and traveling 70 mph and noticed the hood was loose. The safety latch keep the hood closed until i was able to slow down and exit the freeway. My inspection of the hood latch release lever shows that it stands proud of the plastic side panel by approximately 3/8". It is easily snagged by a shoe while exiting the vehicle. The release operates by pulling it horizontally to the rear of the vehicle and unless you hear the hood unlatch, there is no warning until you are driving fast enough to notice the hood bouncing. A failure of the safety latch could result in the hood flying open against the windshield and possibly causing a wreck. *tr

Hello, 3/4/2015 my brother bought a 2013 jeep compass on his birthday of the same year. Over the last few (4-6) months, we have cut our fingers, repeatedly on the chrome covering the doors handles. We are not talking paper cuts nor are we describing emergency room visits, we are describing a very deep and open slice, mostly to the nerves of our finger tips, causing me to miss work. Furthermore, i have a compromised immune system (hiv) & my bodies ability to repair and heal is much longer than others. My most recent injury has cause dangerous complications with a high fever, leading to a very stressful mental and physical well being. I thought i would mention this to everyone, only because i was indeed, in need of a compassionate csr, instead i was brushed off with a case number and a suggestion to repair the handles and any out of pocket expense, would be reimbursed. I've made attempt after attempt and no one with chrysler has ever kept their word to call me back............ Well, it did not take very long ( the very next day), that i sliced another finger causing another traumatic attack on my nervous system, mostly because prescribed blood thinners and bleeding wounds are very frightening and not easy to control. I'm afraid to say, i feel, i've been taken advantage........... In my case, however, this was not my greatest disappointment, but trying to communicate with customer service has been. I hope that my influence can prepare other consumers with their complaints to be patient and steadfast in documenting all discussions with names, dates and times. More importantly research very carefully your next automobile purchase. Great mpg are not the only necessitates of buying a vehicle. All relays changed 'all sensors change. Tipm diagnosis says short in tipm. $1500.00 part after repair of relays and sensors. Total $2500+. Bill. Awaiting new tipm to come in. Chrysler can't guarantee that that will fix the problems.
