  • Recall 2022085 [Canada]: Visual system
Issue: on certain vehicles, the rearview camera image could freeze while backing up. Safety risk: a rearview camera that doesn't display correctly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the vehicle software. This interim repair will the reduce the chance of a problem and provide warning if the rearview camera is not working properly. When final repair parts are available, mercedes-benz will send you a second letter. They will advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the rearview camera.

  • Recall 2019515 [Canada]: Electrical
Issue: certain vans equipped with an integrated backup battery do not have a cover installed over the front passenger's seat base. As a result, if an object made of a conductive material is dropped into the opening, it could make contact with the battery terminals. This could result in a short circuit. Safety risk: a short circuit could increase the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to install a cover over the front passenger's seat base. Consumers should not use a seat base with a battery as a storage compartment.

  • Recall 2019176 [Canada]: Steering
Issue: on certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. Safety risk: a loss of power steering assist would result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the aluminum bolts with steel ones.

  • Recall 2018654 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicles, fuel may weep or leak from one of the lower connecting points of the fuel hose. If this occurs, a fuel odour may be detected inside the vehicle. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the hose and clamp at the lower connecting point of the transition hose, between the underbody fuel line and the schrader valve, and replace the hose at the upper connection of the fuel line to the fuel pump.

  • Recall 2017503 [Canada]: Wheels
On certain vehicles, the front wheel bearing retaining rings might not have been seated correctly and may extend from the steering knuckles. This could cause the retaining rings to potentially move out of position, which could result in the wheel bearing moving in its pressed position while the brake disk is held by the brake caliper. In the event of a failure, a wheel could separate, which could affect vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will check the retaining ring position and correct their position if necessary.

  • Recall 2017119 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain vehicles equipped with the passive blind spot monitoring (bsm) system, the function may not operate properly due to the wrong instrument cluster and steering wheel being installed. As a result, the bsm cannot be activated. If a driver was expecting the system to be functional and were to rely solely on the visual and acoustic warnings of the bsm when attempting to change to or overtake a lane in which another vehicle is travelling, it could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will install the correct instrument cluster and steering wheel.

  • Recall 2016646 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, the front passenger airbag may have been produced with an incorrect tether activation unit (tau). In the event of a crash warranting deployment of the front passenger airbag, the tau may not open the vent, and the airbag may not vent properly. An improperly vented airbag may not protect the seated occupant as expected, and could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the front passenger airbag.

  • Recall 2022103 [Canada]: Fuel supply
Issue: on certain vehicles, the connections on the fuel supply hose may not be properly attached. As a result, fuel could leak in the engine compartment. Safety risk: a fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to check the upper and lower connections on the fuel transition hose. The dealer will replace the clamps and the fuel hose, if required.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Low pressure fuel supply hose leak investigation as of 20180313

On november 27, 2018, daimler vans usa, llc submitted a defect information report (dir) to nhtsa describing two engine compartment fuel hose connection defects in certain model year (my) 2016 and 2017 mercedes-benz metris vehicles (recall 18v-837).The recall scope includes approximately 12,383 metris vehicles manufactured from march 2, 2015 (sop) to march 15, 2017.The defects may result in leakage from an upper hose connection that feeds the high-pressure fuel pump or from a lower hose connection of the fuel transition hose between the underbody fuel line and the shrader valve. The upper connection defect was caused by thermal aging of the hose material (veritas hose), resulting in a loss of elasticity over time. The thermal aging of the hose leads to a progressive reduction of sealing performance, which is most evident at low ambient temperatures. The problem was corrected by changing to a hose with better material properties (contitech hose). The lower connection defect was caused by a manufacturing process problem, where the hose clamp may have been installed using an incorrect tool. The recall remedy involves replacing the upper and lower hoses and clamps, as necessary, and ensuring proper installation. The office of defects investigation (odi) opened preliminary evaluation pe18-002 to investigate nine (9) complaints (voqs) reporting incidents of gasoline odor or leakage in nine (9) model year (my) 2016 mercedes-benz metris vans (subject vehicles).Eight (8) of the voqs indicated that the problem occurred in cold ambient temperatures, either during engine warm-up after a cold start or after the vehicle had been parked and shutoff. Two (2) of the consumers have indicated to odi that the problems were diagnosed by dealer service technicians as the upper hose connection defect. As part of pe18-002, odi analyzed information related to the incidents reported to the office by consumers and analyzed the information provided by daimler vans in response to odis information request letter. The fuel hose leak field experience shown in the failure report section of this resume all involve vehicles covered by the daimler vans recall. This preliminary evaluation is closed with recall 18v-837.Voqs associated with the investigation: 10936026, 10936184, 10991876, 11054491, 11057992, 11063437, 11063829, 11104437, 11138922, 11139024, 11140844, 1150262, 11152201.
