  On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will inspect/replace the driver's frontal airbag inflator. Note: honda canada has created a special airbag inflator hotline for immediate assistance. • Air bag acu electrical overstress investigation as of 20190419

  The office of defects investigation (odi) is expanding the investigation to include the equipment supplier and vehicle manufacturers (oems) using this unit.The investigation focuses on acus manufactured by trw, now zf-trw (zf) , the tier-one supplier to hyundai and kia and the other affected oems.The acu senses a vehicle crash to determine whether air bag deployment is required, and if so, deploys the appropriate air bags and other supplemental restraints.Zf supplied subject acus to six oems: fca, honda, hyundai, kia, mitsubishi and toyota.Internal to the acu is an electronic component (an application specific integrated circuit, or asic) that monitors signals from crash sensors.A failure of the asic may prevent deployment of the required air bags and devices, or may otherwise affect the proper operation of the acu.The acu is located in the passenger compartment, and electrical wiring connects the asic to sensors located at the front of the vehicle.Odi’s current understanding is that a crash event may, in and of itself, produce harmful signals on the sensor wiring capable of damaging the asic, although the probability of this occurring appears to be low.While the acu incorporates electrical circuitry intended to protect the asic from harmful signals, the level and effectiveness of the protective circuitry varies by oem customer.During pe18-003, hyundai and kia filed recalls (18v-137 and 18v-363 respectively) to address a defect that could result in acu disablement and non-deployments.According to the filings, the disablement occurs in certain types of frontal crash events.Both filings discussed a condition known as electrical overstress (eos) that affected the subject asic and was likely caused by electrical signals that entered the acu via sensor wiring.The recalled vehicles used acus that had the lowest levels of asic protection while non-recalled hyundai and kia products using subject acus had higher levels of protection.Odi has not identified any eos failures in the non-recalled kia and hyundai populations.In september 2016, fca filed recall 16v-668 for certain model year (my) 2010 to 2014 chrysler, dodge and jeep products also manufactured with the subject acu.In that filing, fca also discussed an eos condition that resulted in a failure of the subject asic, which caused air bag non-deployment. Fca noted that the defect condition had only been observed in vehicles equipped with sensor harnessing routed across the front of the vehicle.Other fca vehicles that also used the subject acu, but not the cross-car harnessing, had not experienced eos failures, despite similar time in service. The recalled fca vehicles used a mid-level form of asic protection.Other fca vehicles that did not use cross car wiring, or used higher levels of asic protection, have not been recalled.Odi has not identified any eos failures in the non-recalled fca population.Recently, odi has identified two substantial frontal crash events (one fatal) involving toyota products where eos is suspected as the likely cause of the non-deployments.The crashes involved a my 2018 and a my 2019 corolla equipped with the subject acu that incorporated higher levels of asic protection.Additionally, both acus were found to be non-communicative (meaning the acu could not be read with an event data recorder) after the crash, a condition found in other cases where eos occurred with other oems.No other eos events have been identified for other toyota products (including corolla models that used the subject acu since my 2011), or for the honda and mitsubishi vehicles that use the subject acu.Odi plans to evaluate the susceptibility of the subject acu designs to electrical signals, as well as other vehicle factors that can either lead to, or reduce the likelihood of, an eos event.Additionally, odi will evaluate whether an unreasonable risk exists that requires further field action.

2013 acura tl steering got locked after check power steering system, this is very risky if i was on highway and would have happen during driving. I was driving home with my kids and the steering practically locked up, but i was still going about 50 mph. Thankfully, we didn't get hit while i guided the car over to stop safely. The panel just told me to check the steering system... While i was trying not to get hit after losing all power to my steering with no warning while driving. Had vehicle towed home, as it was nighttime. Now i have to get it sent to someone who might tell me anything. This looks like a serious trend based off of what i've read on this sight. It's dangerous and i'm sure getting it fixed will be costly. This is a serious issue on many levels.

The vehicle's steering became very heavy and was very hard to turn. I am fortunate that my wife was not driving, because she would not have had the strength to pull over to the emergency lane without power steering. Acura should be ashamed of themselves to not have issued a recall for this issue.

Received diagnostic message to check power steering system. Loss control of the vehicle because i could not turn the wheel on the vehicle which almost caused an accident. My mechanic indicated that this was a computer issue and recommended that i take it to the acura dealership for service.

Eps light starts blinking and power steering fails intermittently. Completely random when it decides to work and car is under 69000 miles. As an example i was taking a turn and it failed half way through the turn which almost caused a car accident.

Check power steering light started flickering when braking at stop light about to turn left. It was a hard turn but when i started to accelerate it went away, then at the stop light it started to flicker on and off again. Making another left turn it intermittently went on and off. Pretty much same story as everyone else regarding steering. Luckily i bought extended warranty. Miles were only 69,500. Now it's at the shop being checked and will stay over night. This safety issue needs to be recalled. Asap

The steering control unit failed while driving. The vehicle became difficult to control at driving speed and was extremely difficult at slow speed. Check electronic steering control dash light flashed.

Several times over a couple of days while in the middle of driving the steering wheel just froze and would not turn. The first couple of times shutting off the car and restarting brought it back however, the last time it froze completely and never came back. This car is a 2013 however it only has 30,700 miles on it. We had it diagnosed and it is the entire electronic power steering system module that needs to be replaced. I have read that others have reported this issue. Considering one of the times this happened to us was on the highway i feel this is a serious safety issue and that acura knows about it. If it doesn't warrant a recall there should at the least be an extended warranty on this system. Not only the high expense to replace this system, more importantly my son was put into a very dangerous situation on the highway and i feel this is unacceptable.

While driving straight on rural road alarm panel displaying check power steering system, alarm and audible and visual alarm blinking repeatedly, complete loss of power steering control while driving, luckily i had just pulled off a major busy highway onto a backroad when the problem occurred.

The power steering on the car failed without warning. It appears the eps system has failed without warning. This is very dangerous and will cause a death or accident on the road.

While driving, the electric power steering failed not allowing a safe pull over to the side of road. Car was then stopped in a busy morning commute traffic. The system failed on three separate days. The first two days restarting the vehicle reset the power steering but the third time there was no reset. Car was towed to an acura dealership where the electronic power steering control unit was replaced at a cost of $1,026.29. The vehicle has 59,711 miles. No trouble code was recorded and was considered intermittent by aaa service center and likely to return. Because we were driving in city morning commute traffic, the speed was low but this could have occurred while driving the posted 45 mph speed or on a local interstate highway at 70 mph that could have been catastrophic. This is a major safety defect on my vehicle.

The struts/shocks no longer hold the hood open/up. Unable to check engine/fluids without using some other means to hold the hood open/up. First time it happened i was almost struck by the unexpectedly closing hood.

Power steering eps failure right around 60,000 miles my acura tl's power steering eps failed. The car was driving ~45mph on a straight 2-lane highway when the indicator lights went off and the power steering failed. After pulling over to the side of the road and letting the car sit for several hours, it started up with no issues. The next day, upon starting the vehicle, the power steering went out and never returned. This failure caused a chain of events (according to my acura licensed mechanic) which caused failures in and eventual replacement of the rack & pinion, eps sensors, steering computer module, and multiple other sensors. The total bill was $4,200 for repair. Since this incident i received a notice from acura that this is a known problem, and the warranty has been extended. This would have been good to know prior to the issue (the car is 6 years old) and prior to having to pay $4,200 and be stranded without a car for 10 days during repairs. Reading through reviews and complaints online, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident. I have made a claim with acura for reimbursement of my expenses, and hope they do the correct thing and pay for the repairs. Invoice for the repairs (which were completed) is attached.

I had the hood up in order to put in windshield washer fluid. Just when i stepped away the hood fell down. I tested it again and noticed that it would stay up only if it was up all the way. However, if it i touched it lightly or moved it down just a tiny amount, the hood then falls down luckily my head or arm was not under the hood when it fell down. I immediately took it to the dealer. I was advised that the oil in the 2 piston like shock absorbers which hold up the hood, looses viscosity and the pistons have to be replaced. The car has just under 60,000 miles and the hood is rarely opened. It was interesting that the dealer had the parts in stock. That tells me these pistons fail regularly. After the repair was completed, i also noticed that the replacement pistons for the hood were much stronger than the original ones.

Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 acura tl. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 16v061000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to springfield acura (243 us-22, springfield township, nj 07081) and they confirmed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The car lost power steering completely while highway driving. Steering almost impossible to manage and a weaker/smaller/frail individual could not. Turning from a stop even more difficult. No warnings were given and the car was maintained religiously. The vehicle did have 109,000 miles but i have noticed numerous incidents reported online about the same problem with fewer miles. Power steering should be something that lasts the life of the car. This particular power steering involves a "module" that appears to fail frequently and can result in repairs totaling $3500. Most people will not be able to afford that cost. My mechanic also states he believes this is a much more frequent issue than is being reported since most just consider it a maintenance item. Power steering failure is not a routine issue.

Eps failure while driving the car started to beep and the steering failure light turned on in the dash. The steering felt like it locked up, but it was just very very very hard to turn the wheel. I had to stop in the middle of the street and wait for help. When the car was turned back on everything was fine!! (crazy). 2 days later stopped at my mailbox after work and it went crazy again. Turned the car off and back on and it whent away again. Took the car to the acura dealer but they could replicate the problem. On the way home stopped for food and i got stuck in the drive through (i could not turn the wheel to manuever out of the drive through).

Torque converter shudder/ premature failure. Jerky transmission. Shifting hard. Went to 2 torque converters in a year.

Rear suspension noise when going over speed bumps or potholes at lower speeds. Noise is more prominent when its a sudden hard hit on potholes and speed bumps. It sounds like metal hitting metal. It sounds more like when control arm bushing goes bad and it makes metal on metal sound. I took it to acura dealership and they said rear struts are the problem. They replaced both rear struts but problem still persisted. They then said they need to replace the links. But later decided not to because they did not think links were the problem. They then said mounting plates need to be replaced. They replaced them but problem was still not fixed. Dealership said they cant do anymore work on the car without authorization from acura corporation. They contacted acura corporation and was told by acura to drive a similar car to replicate the problem to figure out if its a normal noise for these cars. I have not heard back from the dealership about the findings. I have not been able to drive my car for almost 10 days now not counting the prior attempts of fixing it. I have driven honda cars for the last 10 years and never experienced a problem like this. The problem could be with the control arm bushings or sway bars. But dealership says they are fine. After reading online forums and complaints, this seems to be a widespread issue that may require a recall. I am hoping dealership can figure out this problem and acura fixes this possibly a safety issue soon.

Appears to be transmission related problem. I currently have approximately 47,xxx miles on my vehicle which i had purchased brand new. I've taken my vehicle into the dealer multiple times for the same concern but they have not been able to fix the problem. The first couple of times i took the vehicle in, i was advised there's nothing wrong with the vehicle. I took it in again and acura stated the computer needs to be updated. Once they updated the computer it still did not fix the problem. Then acura stated it was a torque converter and they replaced it with a new one. Instead of fixing the problem, my vehicle have gotten worst due to the whole car vibrating when the a/c is on. The problem still exist, vehicle hesitates and clunking noise and vibration comes from the engine are when driving approximately between 20-45 mph. I purchased this vehicle new and i know how it drove from day one, now it does not drive the way it did. Acura stated they are aware of the problem but they do not have a solution for the problem. All the work was done under warranty which is four years or 50,000 miles. My vehicle is few thousand miles away from being out of manufacture warranty and i am afraid my vehicle will break down or the problem will get worst and i will be stuck with a broken car. Acura also stated there is a bulletin for this problem and acura is working on finding a solution.

Takata recall-my vehicle has been in acura (macchurchill) since february 23, 2016. They said it could take as long as until september before my vehicle is repaired. In addition, i recently discovered that my airbags had been previously deployed on this vehicle. I was never notified of this, nor did i sign an airbag disclosure statement form. The dealership states they are not required to have me sign this form.

Have been waiting for a year & a half for the acura dealer to get me in to replace my airbags and every time i call i am told i am still on a very long list. Sure hope we don't get in a wreck & god forbid have shrapnel kill us.

I have experienced tach hunting when you're driving and the vehicle shifts into the highest gear and the rpms should be steady, you're going at a steady speed down a city street and the tachometer starts jumping around it will not stay steady. It first started happening when the car had around 36,000 miles on it we brought it in and the dealer reprogrammed/ flushed the transmission that fixed it for roughly 36,000 miles . In 2018 it stated again when the car had 73,000 mi they updated the computer again apparently there was another update and they flushed the transmission and it operated normally for about 27,000 miles this time. Now the car has just over 100,000 mi on it and it's doing it again apparently from what i've learned and heard you can have the transmission flushed and put some lube guard shutter fix in it and it will help it and maybe even cure the issue on some cars but others it's too late and the transmission will need to be replaced or overhauled. At the very least the torque converter will need to be replaced! This is absolutely ridiculous honda knew they had a problem and they pretty much put a patch on it until you're past the warrant i believe that the warranty should be extended to 150,000 miles!

According to state farm, the rubber boots in the front door jams were defective. This caused the car to have a water leak into the floor boards causing all of the wiring, including the airbags wire harness to be subject to moisture, leading to future corrosion, including what is referred to gfs - green fuzzy *$#!. *tr

My vehicle is equipped with hid headlights for the low beams, and halogen headlights for high beams. I have observed that when the low beams are on, the forward illumination cast by the headlights is negligible. When driving and using the highway's dividing lines as a point of reference, my car only illuminates about two "dashes" in front of the car, which is a serious safety concern. I have measured the illumination when my car is parked on a flat surface, and the lights only shine approximately 52 feet in front of the car. My understanding is that low beams should typically shine at least 160 feet in front of the car. Furthermore, i have taken my car back to the acura dealership's service department twice since i bought the car on 3/31/13 and have complained about the headlights, and they have checked them and said everything is fine. I am somewhat concerned that the acura service department may not be able to properly check for forward illumination on headlamps; however,i have serious concerns that other acura tl 2013 owners may be in a similar situation and this lack of visibility could result in accidents, injuries, or deaths. Pronounced "clunk" noise coming from rear of car at low speeds - between 15-40 mph. This is a consistent issue that many people have reported in various acura tl, tsx, and honda accord internet forums. Many people like myself have take the car back to the dealer multiple times to have the issue researched and they either say it is "normal" (as if it is a characteristic of the car) or there is no issue. Have claimed that everything in the rear suspension is "firm" or "solid", yet the issue still remains. I have never been in a car that had such a noise when driving over street cracks, speed bumps, etc. As i said, numerous people have reported this across the internet, yet no action that i can determine either from acura or honda. I am worried that there is a safety issue that is being ignored. *tr

The fly by wire throttle system is inconsistent in application. Sometimes in traffic when you need to accelerate, instead of lighter application of the throttle, the car waits several heartbeats before anything happens. Then catches up to the pedal position , which if you've tried to move forward and nothing happened and you've keep pushing the pedal now you're instantly at half throttle in heavy traffic. Acura says this is the way the car was designed and there's nothing they'll do about it. *jb
