NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 104407 [USA]: If the front coil spring fractures due to corrosion it could cause the coil spring to make contact with the tire, possibly puncturing the tire and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Hyundai motor company (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2001-2006 santa fe vehicles manufactured from march 31, 2000, through february 15, 2006, that are registered and operated, or which were originally sold and registered, in the following 20 ?Salt belt" states and the district of columbia: connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, and wisconsin. The affected vehicles may experience front coil spring corrosion from road salt, causing the coil spring to fracture and make contact with the tire.
hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the coil spring, free of charge. The recall began on october 24, 2014. Owners may contact hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 124.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 42229 [USA]: If an extended stopping distance occurs, it could result in a crash.
On certain sport utility vehicles equipped with 3.5 liter v-6 engines, 4-wheel drive and antilock braking systems (abs), if the brake pedal is depressed at speeds between 3 and 12 mph when the brake pad friction surfaces are wet, a vibration may occur between the brake discs and pads causing abs sensor electronic signal noise to develop. At speeds below 5 mph, the abs sensor signal noise may cause the abs electronic control unit (ecu) to activate the abs, extending the stopping distance.
dealers will reprogram the abs ecu. Owner notification began on march 24, 2004. Owners should contact hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
hyundai recall no. 065. Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

  • Recall 34442 [USA]: the tire pressure labels do not contain the information required by the standard.
Certain sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 120, "tire selection and rims for motor vehicles other than passenger cars."
owners will be provided with a correct label and installation instructions. Owner notification began on october 29, 2003. Owners should contact hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
hyundai recall no. 064.Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

  • Recall R/2013/056 [UK]: Brake lights may malfunction
The vehicles brake lights may intermittently malfunction due to carbonisation of the contacts within the brake light switch. This can also affect other systems on the vehicle including: esc cruise control gear selection (autoboxes) engine check lamp.
recall the vehicle that are likely to be affected to replace the brake light switch.

  • Recall 2014322 [Canada]: Suspension
On certain vehicles, the front suspension coil springs may be susceptible to corrosion. Over time, corrosion could cause the springs to fail, potentially damaging front tires and causing rapid air loss and/or tire failure, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace coil springs as necessary. Additionally, a spring guide will be installed to prevent the coil spring from contacting the tire.

  • Recall 2004104 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.5l v6 engine, 4wd and abs, if the brake pedal is depressed at speeds between 5 and 20 km/h when the brake pad friction surfaces are wet, a condition called creep vibration may occur between the brake disc and pad. The abs electronic control unit may misinterpret the abs sensor signal noise as indicating that the speed is above 7 km/h, causing it to activate the abs, extending the stopping distance. Correction: dealer will reprogram the abs ecu.

  • Recall 2003326 [Canada]: Label
On certain vehicles, the wheel rims and the tire pressure labels do not comply with cmvss 120. The rims do not contain the required markings and the tire pressure labels do not contain the rim size. Correction: hyundai will provide owners with a corrected tire pressure label. Since the non-compliant wheel rims do not pose any safety risk, no corrective action is required.

To ensure accuracy and for your safety, it is recommended to do a free VIN recall check here or here [USA] - UK - Canada.

This was a recall for hundai santa fe vehicles from 2001-2006. For unknown reasons i was not aware of recall. It was for 15 years or 150 miles. It is a danger as my car leaks gas. I am at 135,000 miles. But my car is a 2004. I purchased the vehicle in the last 2 years. I believe the recall should extend till the repair is complete for the reasons as follows. 1. It can explode. 2. It is a polluter 3. Hyundai acknowledges it as faulty equipment. 4. Corporations must be resonsible or they are irresponsible. 5. Cars are expensive they must maintain as least minimum safety requirements.

It made absolutely no since untill i done some research and seen the lawsuit for this same thing and i wondered why this model was not included. I also seen multiple people wondering the same thing about their 2004 hyundai santa fe. My father was the only one iat the house and in the house he could have lost his life and everything they own the only way he knew it was on fire was a neighbor saw and started screaming and started backing up to the vehicle to pull it away from the house a police report was made but what is she supposed to do for a vehicle? When no one even started the fire.

I have a 2004 hyundia santa fe and the engine started with loud knocking sounds in my driveway. I had it toll to avondale earnhardt hyundia's dealership. The diagostic was "found engine knock can be heard at bottom end of engine. Failure in rod bearings is causing excessive noise in bottom end. Engine required" replacement. The car has 125,000 miles which exceeds the 100,000 powertrain warranty. However, my engine failure is the same as the current "engine failure recalls (theta ii engines) caused by manufacturing processes. Except the 2004 hyundia santa fe was not included on the recall list. I spoke and submitted twice a compliant to hyundia customer care department to replace my engine and was denied an engine replacement. I have been without a car since november 20, 2020. Today, customer care department notified me by phone of the second rejection. I am an elderly woman and retired, so finances are limited. I feel that the engine should be replaced because that the "fair thing to do". The engine should not have failed so early in its life-cycle. I would appreciate your review and a solution to this problem. Perhaps a recall on my vehicle.

The vehicle keeps won't start after pumping gas. It takes awhile, and stalls. Even stalled while driving, which terrifies me. I don't want to be out on the highway possibly risking an accident. I went to pepboys and spent $1800 on trying to figure out what the problem was, and its still doing the same thing. It happened more than once, and continues to happen.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While the vehicle was undergoing an alignment, the independent mechanic diagnosed that the front coil springs were rusted, fractured, and needed to be replaced. In addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated, there was an abnormal noise, and the vehicle was unstable when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to cautiously apply the brake pedal and, at times, depress the brake pedal with force to ensure that the vehicle would stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v435000 (suspension) and 04v131000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the manufacturer issued three tsbs for the brakes and three tsbs for the suspension. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available. *tt*jb

I was involved in an accident while driving down a city street in plano, texas. A truck pulled out to get into the middle lane and was caught off and forced to pull into my lane directly in front of me. My brakes locked up after trying to stop, which isn't a problem because i know it is normal. What occurred was that as i struck the truck in front of me, my air bags didn't deploy, and my seat belt had failed to lock. Which caused me to collide with the steering wheel. The speed i struck the truck, which was going about 10 mph when we collided, was about 45 mph.

2004 hyundai santa fe 2.7 liter engine, high idles at 3,000 rpm on start up and never goes down even when engine reaches normal operating temperature, automatic transmission not even acting right since this problem started, this is a hazard and can cause an accident. The car shows no engine codes, or transmission codes, it has had lower intake, upper intake gaskets changed, iac motor changed, throttle position sensor changed, temperature sensor changed, cleaned throttle body bore where throttle plate closes, changed vacuum hoses, made sure throttle cable and cruise control cable were binding or holding throttle open, and none off these things have helped. I have seen many complaints of this problem, many accidents that have occurred because of this problem, and have read a forum that said hyundai does not have a fail safe mode built into there computers like most cars do so this kind of situation does not occur. Vehicle still not fixed, and hyundai needs to recall this problem before there are any fatalities from neglect of a known problem.

This was covered by hyundia recall campaign 124. I filled under case # 9878948. Spring repair 2/12/14, sold car 4/5/14, recall 2/4/15. They only would pay for $318 of the $917 total repair and said it has to go to a hyundia dealership. They refused to pay for the sensers, strut mounts , sway bar link etc per the invoice. I contacted the person i sold it to and made a dealer appmt but they didn't show. Hyundia consumer affairs 800-633-5151 told me to file a dispute with bbb autoline which i did under case # hyU1713624. They never responded. Bbb autoline now says that they don't handle recalls disputes but you do. I just talked to them and they referred me to you. Without ever talking to me, while i was trying to get the car into a dealer and waiting for the bbb autoline response hyundia closed out the case. Ironically hyundia would have replaced both springs with oem, all other damaged parts and any damaged tires per their recall. It would have cost them 2x as much as the $917. They wouldn't even call my mechanic who the local hyundia dealer acknowledged as reputable. In our case, the broken spring bent the strut, damaged the sway bar and tore the abs sensor wire. The language in the recall information actually calls for the dealer to replace installed non-oem struts with oem struts so the new bracket will fit properly. Given this, i am surprised that you chose not to pay for the cost of the one strut and mount ($62.1 6 +$135.88) & repair ($37.20) and the spring repair ($37.20). Likewise hyundia chose not to pay for the damaged abs sensor ($175.94) and its repair ($55.80). In minnesota, like most states, parts are subject to sales tax of 7.125%. In this case it added up to ($45.25) which hyundia chose not to pay. Likewise hyundia choose not to pay the shop supplies ($13.18) and the environmental fee ($4.93) which are pretty typical.

Takata recall. Just prior to a hyundai recall in 5/3/16 for a defective gas tank, my "air bag" light went off. Let me back track . In 5/16, my car began leaking gas underneath. So badly, that one day while passing the fire/police station in norfolk, ma the fire chief and his crew began pursuing me. Stopping me in my driveway, i was told about the leak and was told i would have to surrender my car, it was a "safety hazard to (all)." i presented a aaa membership card. The chief himself called and arranged a tow to a local repair shop. After 2 days, i received a letter from hyundai corporation stating that my "gas tank was faulty" and was subject to a "recall". Imagine the timing on that? The national office of hyundai sounded just great on the phone. But when my mechanic said he would not touch the car for fear of complicating the warranty, no one including hyundai would send anyone to tow the car. At my personal peril, i drove to the nearest dealership. As i approached the reception area, all remaining gas gushed out of my car. I was given a beautiful current hyundai to drive as a loaner car; i needed that car for 2 months. When the dealership called to tell me my car was "ready", their advisor issued 2 pages of problems allegedly existing and tried to sell me a new car. I have since had someone else look at my car; none of those problems exist. When i picked up my car from the dealer, i also asked their advisor "why hyundai hadn't fixed the air bag light?" over the 2 mths they had my car. I was told that "hyundai didn't use takata air bags." however, numerous friends of mine driving other models of hyundai have received recalls citing the "takata airbag recall." my passenger air bag is defective. The dealer told me "the bag alone would cost $800. Buy a new car!" what is going on here?

I smelled gas recently when opening and getting into my 2004 santa fe. I took it to a car repair shop. They inspected it and found rust holes in the gas tank which gas was leaking out of! I can't imagine the how terrible an event could have occurred if the leaking gas had exploded when i started the car or been close to an open flame with the car when it was leaking. I have owned many cars in my life and have never had a fuel tank rust out. I think the nhtsa needs to take a very close look at this problem and possibly issue a recall on the gas tanks of santa fes and other vehicles they manufacture that use the same gas tank.

In september 2015 i began to have issues with the anti-lock braking system. The anti-lock brakes engage with no notice. It can be perfectly dry outside and suddenly they connect and start grinding. It can happen at any time, even when the brakes are not applied, with no warning, but almost always when i'm slowing down to less than 5 miles an hour. I have contacted hyundai, but they claim there is no recall for this issue on this model, though there is a recall for this exact problem on other hyundai models. As i approached a stop light and my car began to slow, it didn't shift all the way into first gear. While stopped at the light, it remained at a high rpm while the brake was pressed. When the light changed, and the gas pedal was pressed, my car "kicked" down into first and immediately back in to second. A few days later while at a stop light, my car died. After a few minutes, it started back up. After bringing it to the dealer (it had died on my three times at this point) to have it serviced, i was told that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. They were able to "feel" the shifting issues when stopping but they couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. Since i've had my vehicle back from the shop, it has been having high idle surges where the resting idle rpm is at 2000, in addition, when the vehicle is in neutral it acts as if something is pushing the gas pedal while my foot is on the brake going back and forth between 800 and 2000 rpm. When the vehicle is in drive and my foot is on the brake, it also feels like my vehicle wants to get up and go (again like something is pushing on the gas pedal). I have taken my vehicle to two different places and both places can't pinpoint what is wrong with my vehicle. It's starting to become a safety concern. What if whatever is going on with my vehicle overrides the brake system and i end up hurting someone? *tr

Took my hyundai santa fe in for the recall on the spring issue. After returning home and looking at the work order that listed their activity as installing a ?Front spring protector installation,? I called their national consumer help number and asked about the parameters used in evaluating the repair decision. Her answer was: the dealer will inspect and do either a spring replacement if sever damage is found or install a front spring protection kit and spray application (of something) if moderate damage is found. I questioned the parameters for leading to a decision, the first person i talked to said it was the dealers responsibility. I responded by asking for a supervisor, after transfer she repeated the previous answer. I have been involved in many structural evaluations of rusty structural elements. One cannot just eyeball a situation like this, there are parameters for the repair or replacement. I found the supervisors answer, that she could not direct me to a corporate engineering office for specific design parameters and that the dealers would be making the decisions was questionable at best in terms of their answer, with no defined evaluative criteria and their reliability on the dealers to make a safety choice over a economic one. The recall was from hyundai not the dealer i purchased from. There were two other instances relating to rust on this car, the car needed to have its fuel tank replaced a few years ago because it was rusting and leaking gasoline, i have the extended bumper to bumper 100,000 mile warranty. Little did that help, they claimed it was not covered (what does bumper to bumper mean) and denied coverage. A separate issue occurred when the car died about 100 yards from my service garage, pushed it in, they found a corroded wire (what ever) and replaced it. When i called for reimbursement, they denied it. *tr

The first occurrence was tues. Oct. 21 backing out of a driveway and went to put the car in drive. It stalled right in the middle of a very busy road. I put it in park and tried to start it again. It did start but did not feel like it would continue to run. However, it did. The second time was yesterday when i was driving down a four lane road at 40 miles an hour and it just stopped running. I was so thankful it was later in the evening and traffic was very minimal. I put it in park and it did start but again did not feel like it would continue. It felt like it would stall again but did not, 2 more times before i got home. I called this morning to get it right in and never heard back. I am afraid to drive it because of the traffic on most of these roads. I do not feel like i was taken seriously even though i received a recall notice in sept. But have managed to misplace it. I do not remember what the recall was for. The second time this happened a panel light did come on. It was the malfunction indicator light. I am worried about an accident and possible death with this happening to the car. *tr

They said the bolt that attaches to the power steering gear rack sheared off of the subframe. I have pictures. Also since there is a recall on the coil springs for cars sold in the salt belt i thought this also could be a corrosion issue because the mechanic said he has never seen this before. The bolt didn't come loose, the actual subframe tore apart and the steering rack was just hanging there by one bolt and over time it ripped the rubber to shreds. This could have cause fatalities. We had to purchase a new subframe and steering rack to get the car drivable. It seems to me it was faulty manufacturing or a rust corrosion issue. The subframe is a huge thick iron frame where you would think nothing could break it, but in this instance it actually ripped. I would like some compensation for the repairs. I wanted this complaint out there because it could become a safety issue for other drivers. *tr

The vehicle had a strong sent of gasoline when parked. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic, i was informed that it was a gas leak and the gas tank had to be replaced. After the gas tank was replaced, the mechanic informed me that the tank had rusted and that was the reason for the leak. He showed me the gas tank and there was extensive rust on it. There was a plastic part under the tank that retained water and road salt and caused the tank to prematurely rust. There is no reason for a vehicle that is garaged and washed regularly to have a rusted out gas tank. Clearly, there is a design flaw that allowed the plastic part under the tank to collect water and rust. *tr

A strong odor of gasoline was noticeable upon entering my garage. Further inspection revealed gas leaking from my '04 hyundai santa fe. The service station determined that a fuel tank and center heat shielding replacement was necessary as both were defective, leaking fuel, and posed a very high risk of danger. Needless to say, i was stuck paying a very hefty bill to the repair center rather than worrying about blowing up myself, my passengers, or my house. I see that there have been other complaints about the same problem with this make and model of hyundai.

I was in tn when i heard a slight "thunk" and then a continuous rattle under the vehicle. I assumed a broken exhaust bracket and left tn on 8/17/2014 to return to my home in saint louis mo. I traveled i55 in speeds in excess of 75 mph and listened to the rattle for about 100 miles. And then the rattle stopped and i assumed that the broken bracket had finally come loose and is now located somewhere on i55. I took my car to firestone and was stunned to learn that my right front suspension coil spring was missing and my right front strut was broken. An inspection of the left front coil spring also indicated significant corrosion and needed to be replaced for safety. Hyundai has recalled 419,000 vehicles of this type in dc and 20 other states specifically stating excessive corrosion as a result of road salt--this list excluded the state of mo which happens to also use road salt. My hyundai has been in mo for 12 years. Hyundai needs to do the responsible thing and expand its recall to all states that use salt and perhaps to coastal states that have ocean salt. *tr

2004 hyundai santafe broken coil spring rubbing against the front tire. Vehicle was parked in my driveway when i heard a very loud bang that sounded like a shotgun. I went out to investigate but could not find anything wrong. The next morning i attempted to leave for work when i noticed a strange noise. I could not identify the sound so i turned around an parked the vehicle back in the driveway. It was then i noticed a curved shape piece on the ground which looked like a hotdog where my vehicle had been parked. I picked the hotdog shaped piece of steel approximately 3/4" diameter. It appeared to have been broken on one end. After further investigation i found it to be a piece of the coil spring on the front drivers side strut. The coil spring was now rubbing against the front tire. Luck for me this did no happen while i was on the highway. *tr

My oil changing place thought i had a power steering fluid leak, so i took it to the dealer to check. The real problem was the front right axle boot was leaking badly (covered by the power train warranty), but they found that the right and left control arm bushings had collapsed and the sensors were frozen in place. After they fixed these, the mechanic took it for a test drive, and during the test drive, the right front coil snapped. I am told that i must now replace both left and right front coils and have the car re-aligned. The coils should be on recall, as obviously there is a defect in the manufacturing. *tr

Hyundai is willing to replace what my insurance company paid out for medical care and to fix my car. I will be having medical issues for the rest of my life thanks to this air bag incident. I believe hyundai should pay for all future medical issues resulting from this incident but .... They investigated and are saying that the "computer shows an impact severe enough to cause the deployment" so they are willing to replace the seat and reimburse only the insurance company. Dear nhtsa - my santa fe had a malfunction at 65 mph that causes the car to abruptly slow down and run in only third gear. This is a huge distraction to the driver and could easily cause an accident. The codes are P0121 and P0733 which have to do with a throttle/accelerator position sensor and a third gear ratio mismatch. I believe the way this works is the accelerator position sensor sends a signal to the electronic throttle system module which activates an ets motor on the throttle body which opens/closes the throttle butterfly damper based on a computed error signal. Upon researching this on hyundai forums it was very apparent that this malfunction is very common and very dangerous. I searched the current recalls and this is not one of the two recalls i could find for this vehicle. But in 50% of the cases i read about it appeared that either the accelerator sensor or throttle sensor is a common failure. I really think this should be investigated. There are also some other items that can cause these sensors to see this mismatch and give the engine/transmission the fault code which causes the car to either go into "limp" mode or single gear mode. Although both are at different speeds it basically limits the car to a maximum rpm and causes it to either run in one gear or not shift above a gear, for example 3rd gear into overdrive. This seems to be a common fault that is extremely dangerous when running at or near highway speeds due to the unexpected nature of the event and the speed change and noise it can cause thus surprising the driver which may cause them to stop or pull over unexpectedly. Other malfunctions that can cause this are mass air flow sensor, fuel injector o-ring faulty and leaky intake manifolds among others. This serious issue that should be investigated and redesigned or repaired on these vehicles. *tr

This vehicle has been driven extensively year round, including snowy northeast ohio winters. On a somewhat cold day in march 2014, my 2004 santa fe sat outside on a surface lot for approximately 14 hours. As i pulled my car out of the parking space, the car lurched to the front right and came to a halt. I had pulled forward approximately 3 feet, had turned the wheel slightly to the right, and just began to hit the gas to pull out of the parking space. It was quite obvious that my front right tire had blown violently. No accidents occured with other vehicles and no injuries occured; however, should someone have been standing near the front right tire, someone may have been hurt. While trying to change the tire, it became obvious that the spring had broken and made contact with the tire. The vehicle needed to be towed on a flatbed and repairs were made. I still own the vehicle, and i am now aware that this part has been recalled for this exact issue. I am concerned about the integrity of the spring on the opposite side as it is currently an original part. *tr

I had my 2004 hyundai sante fe at the dealer's for the smell of gasoline in the vehicle and when walking behind the car. It was told there was a small leak in the gas tank due to rust. The vehicle is not 9.5 years old has approximately 82,000 miles on it - have regular service done on the vehicle. I have undercarriage of car washed after snow storms as i live in new england and know the salt from the roads can rust the car. I was quoted a price of $1,500 or more - "can't tell until we start taking things apart how much job will be". This evening went to go to the store for milk car started right up drove down hill and car started to buck and stopped. Thank god for aaa - called for a tow and the tow truck driver attempted to start car - car starts but then stalls said there may be an air bubble in fuel line - could this have happened when dealer's service department checked for the leak. (i do not have the money to replace a gas tank when i don't know exactly how much the cost will be). Has anyone else had this problem. After starting vehicle and while driving, engine shuts down immediately and without warning. Was able to steer to the side of the street it as it was still rolling. No indications came on as to what the issue may point to. I shut the engine off and waited for a tow to my home which i total took about 45 minutes. Once at home the vehicle started with no issues. For the next two days my vehicle was at my mechanics and he could not reproduce the problem. I went ahead and had the transmission. Flushed as him and i had discussed as one of the last things to get serviced before winter. Later that day i drove a longer distance with top speed about 65 mph with no issues. Just as i was returning home the car shutdown as i was crossing a busy intersection. Luckily, again i was able to steer the rolling vehicle to the side of the road. I attempted to start a few times but after a not so pleasant sound left it off. After being completely off for 30 to 45 minutes the vehicle was able to start again. This time the check engine stayed on. My search on the issue points to a crankshaft protection sensor, but this is not a clear solution and a costly thing to fix if this does not resolve. I see many complaints on the issue with no definitive resolution for hyundai owners even by hyundai technicians as they troubleshoot the problem. This is a scary thing to have happen and some of the vehicle jerks are rather hard and violent. Before these shutdowns become deadly please address. I have a 2004 hyundai santa fe, 2.7 liter engine, 4wd. Front spring on passenger side broke yesterday, while the car was in the garage, causing my tire to puncture. Thought it was just a flat but it was not until the car was towed to a tire store that i learned the spring had simply snapped in half. I have researched this and this is, clearly, a faulty part. After seeing dozens and dozens of similar consumer complaints i am astounded that hyundai has not recalled these vehicles (appears to span 2001 to 2006) or been sued by someone seriously injured in an accident. Thank god i was not driving my car at the time. I wonder how many fatal accidents have been caused by hyundai's negligence in not being forthcoming in replacing this part. Stopped at intersection, with my foot on the break, the suv lurches forward and jerks. I placed it in park while waiting for the light to change. I was concerned that i would hit the car in front of me. I drove 2 hours and noticed continued misfiring and jerking while driving. It was ok when the engine was cool, but felt unsteady when up to temp. After being parked in grocery parking lot, while backing up the car stalled, i restarted and drove home. Took it to mechanics next day. At the hyundai dealer now. They could not get any codes and the engine failure light never showed. The mechanic, said that he was 90% sure that replacing the timing belt/crank shaft position sensor/balancer shaft belt/pick up plate would correct the problem...This didn't work and the dealer asked to keep it a 5th night. I have not heard from them as of yet. I'm concerned that my car will not be repaired and am afraid to drive it. *js

Once the tire was removed we discovered the coil spring had broken and sliced the tire all the way around. It appears from my research that this is a common problem. Car was is garage. Went to back out and had barely moved an inch in reverse when i heard a pop and a whooshing noise of the front left tire deflating. Car was then slanted/lopsided to the left because the tire was so deflated. Tried to remove tire and couldn't get it off. On 9/13/2011, in san juan, pr, at approximately 4:00 p.M., my mother (74 years old) was driving her 2004 hyundai santa fe at a very slow rate of speed on a wet concrete road. While approaching a red light, and while still far away from it, she applied her vehicle's brakes with no avail. The vehicle continue moving forward and stop only after hitting a car waiting for the light to change green. That impact caused this vehicle (v-1) to move forward and hit another vehicle (v-2) which was also waiting for the light to changed. My mother received a heavy impact force to her chest, shoulders, and neck area produced not only by impacting the vehicles in front of her but also because her vehicle's air bags were deployed. 5/25/2011, approx. Time 8:45 a.M. 2004 santa fe lx, 38,828 miles on vehicle. Original owners, bought new. Vehicle was sitting in our driveway, got in to leave for doctors appt., moved about two feet, when we heard this loud noise and air gushing sound from the right front of our car. Went out to investigate and found the coil spring had ruptured and cut through the sidewall of the tire. Thank god we were not traveling on any road or interstate hwy., i would not be telling this. Hyundai motors of america, corporate office was notified of my issue, and the fact the left spring could rupture at any time. They offered in good faith to pay for right spring and tire, but would not replace left front spring. Hyundai motors of america should be responsible for these defected coil springs and recall all 2004 santa fe to replace front coil springs and any other mechanical systems that were affected by the ruptured coil springs. Many owners of 2004 santa fe are not aware of this issue, hopefully hyundai will take full responsibility before their are any fatalities, god bless us, and i pray he will keep us safe!!!!! *tr

While driving on a straight, smooth section of interstate highway my wife and i heard a very loud boom, as if we had hit a large rock or something. There was no vibration that an impact would have caused. We didn't know what had caused the noise. 2004 hyundai, santa fe drove fine. Two days later, when making a low speed right turn, the right front tire blew out. When the tire was removed it was discovered that the coil spring had broken, made contact with the tire and ripped it about three quarters around completely through. After researching the topic i was appalled at how many complaints there were about broken springs on 2004 santa fes. It seems to be a recurrent problem with this vehicle and should be recalled. If the spring had ruptured the tire when it apparently broke, on the highway i hesitate to think what would have happened, or how many lives would be at risk. I believe it is time hyundai stepped-up and recall the springs. *tr

The driver's side coil spring broke on my 2004 hyundai santa fe at 40,000 miles. I was driving down a street and there was a loud explosion type sound, my vehicle actually felt like it jumped, all the dash lights came on and the engine died. I wrestled with the wheel to get the car over to the side of the road but i was still in the road. There was a woman in front of me getting out of her car with a toddler and i came close to hitting them as i tried to control my truck. I'm so glad i wasn't going faster than 10-15 mph. The repair agent said he'd never seen this happen at less than 100k+ miles, and it took out the brake line and fuel line on that side as well. Total cost will be $1500. As the timing belt also needs changing. Not happy. 2004 hyundai santa fe has sudden acceleration and surging no trouble lights on. Dealership told me the throttle sensor had to be replaced, so we did that. About a month later, same thing happened. Was just pulling the car down the drive way and the front passenger side tire blew out. I stopped the car and a friend was going to change the tire. We had not even made it on the road and was only going a couple miles per hour and about 15 to 20 feet. We were on our way, going out of town and were thankful that we did not have this happen going 65 mph on the highway were we could have been hurt or hurt some one else. Several times a week we have a new born and a two year old in this vehicle. Thankfully they were not with us. The repair shop said that the front spring had snapped and triggered a kill switch to the fuel line which prevented the car from starting. Not seeing anything in my way, i continued to back the santa fe out to the street still hearing a loud noise. My husband came over to see what was making the noise and noticed that the whole front passenger side fender was resting on the tire. Upon raising it with the jack, he noticed that the front passenger suspension coil was broken. I even took pictures of it while it was jacked up. I drive a used, 2004 hyundai santa fe gls. Very recently, i was just leaving work when a seemingly very ordinary thing happened to my car. I was stopped at a stop sign, waiting to take a left turn. As soon as i accelerated and began to turn, my vehicle suffered a blown-out front-passenger side tire. As the tire blew out, i heard a loud "clunk"and then a "pop". Surprised, i pulled the car over as soon as i could, off of the main road. I had roadside assistance come out to change the tire, because i found that i did not have the tools required in my car to change a tire. After the tow truck driver put on the spare, i paid him for his services and went to leave. As i turned the wheel to leave, my vehicle suffered another blow-out, same side. My car then had to be towed to the nearest shop to be looked at. Turns out, my front-right coil spring snapped and pierced my tire(s). I currently have 73,000 miles on my car, which is a good amount, but at the same time, coil springs do not just snap from normal wear and tear. The vehicle is 7 years old, not twenty. How could this happen? I found out that when the coil spring snapped, it also snapped the struts and the strut mount, on top of my two tires. The total amount for the damage was about $1200.00, as both sides needed new parts to ensure the best handling of the car. All i can think about is, what if i was on the expressway doing 65? It's a scary thought to know that i may not have come out of this alive. I am very lucky it happened at such a low speed, with hardly any cars around, or else i would not have lived to tell the tale. I have noticed that several other santa fe owners have had the same problem. And god forbid, maybe even more that have not lived to tell. This is a dangerous defect, and it needs to be looked at. *tr

It appears that the chrome-plating has turned into a sharp edge, similar to a razor-blade (identical to what occurred in nhtsa action # pe08071 on the hyundai sonata). I have temporarily taped the sharp area, since both the dealer and hyundai customer service refuse to acknowledge the danger of this problem, and refuse to replace the handle at no charge. My 2004 santa fe has serious rusting on the under frame. Rust is on the weld points and the fuel and engine covers are completely covered with rust and have chunks missing. A recall of 2001 through 2003 sante fe vehicles does not include ours. We have 64,000 miles on it and well taken care of and we our very concerned that further rusting will cause important parts to give way. I was told by hyundai that nothing could be done but i could write a letter of complaint to hyundai of america. This i did and have not had any response as of 10/26/2009. My vehicle '!@#$%. I am sure this is not an isolated vehicle and probably people do not realize there is an issue because like our car, it looks great until you put it on a hoist. *tr

I bought my 2004 hyundai santa fe new in february 2004. All of the brake pads had to be replaced at 23000 miles due to rusted calipers. However, my complaint is about something much more serious. The coil springs on both front mcphearson struts broke and penetrated the tires. The left front spring broke in february 2009 at about 23000 miles. The right front spring broke on 6/9/09 at approximately 24500 miles. Fortunately, the santa fe was parked in my garage both times the springs broke. Had the springs failed while i was driving down the road or on the thruway, there's no doubt in my mind that i would have crashed or rolled over. Although the tows and repairs were made under warranty at no cost to me, i don't trust the santa fe anymore and i do not intend to keep it. *tr

I took my car into my new local dealer wallace hyundai , stuart fl. My air bag light started staying on all the time. At the time i brought it in, my vehicle was still covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. This dealer told me i had to pay $100.00 to inspect the vehicle for the issue. I have never in the life of owning 2 hyundai sante fe's (this being my 2nd) did i ever have to pay up front for bumper to bumper issues. I am disabled and did not have the $100.00 so i left and then the warranty ran out, so my issue has never been taken care of. To this day, my airbag light is still on and i am concerned it will either deploy or not deploy at all in an accident. Updated 03/23/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact heard a noise similar to liquid touching a hot surface. An independent mechanic confirmed that the air conditioner was leaking onto the pipes, the rack and pinion, and the fuel tank cover, which has also caused them to rust. The contact has an extended five year warranty; however, the dealer stated that they would only make repairs when the steering fails completely, which could result in a crash. She informed the dealer that a mechanic changed the fluids and stated that the crankshaft could have seized due to the rust and caused a loss in steering control. The mechanic performed regular maintenance checks per the mileage requirements. The transmission fluid, serpentine belt, timing belt, air conditioner belt, and power steering fluid were replaced in april of 2009. In march of 2009, the vehicle underwent frequent oil changes and tire replacements at the dealer. At that time, she was never informed of any rust being present. The independent mechanic confirmed that the rust occurred over time. The invoices for all repairs and maintenance work is available. The contact asked the dealer to speak with the mechanic for specific details, but was unsuccessful. She is familiar with the magnusen-mofact 1975 title 15, chapter 50 , sections 2301 -2312 of the u.S. Federal code, which authorizes her to have repairs performed by a repair facility other than the dealer. The current mileage was 61,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

I was traveling down the highway at 70mph when, all of a sudden, i heard a bang and the car veered out of control. It was a terrifying experience. I regained control of the car i was able to safely pull to the side of the road to investigate and i noticed that the coil spring broke. The following day i brought my vehicle to the hyundai dealer and they charged an outrageous amount to replace. Not very likely that i would purchase another hyundai. *tr

Drivers side coil spring broken. Strut mount also needed to be replaced. I bought this car new in 2004. As the mileage will tell you, i don't drive it much. My car had been sitting in the driveway for a couple of days when i went to go to work. As i started backing out of the driveway i heard a very loud noise when i turned the wheel. I decided not to try driving it. My husband took it to the dealer and they found the spring broken. They said i was no longer under warranty. Fortunately, i was not driving it at the time as it could have punctured the tire and caused a blowout. Since this incident, it has happened again, on the passenger side. This time it had been sitting for about 4 days in the driveway and when i went to back out, i heard it. We immediately took it to a nearby garage and found the spring had broken and was rubbing on the tire. This time the mileage was about 25,000 miles. Hyundai does not seem to think there is a problem with these springs. I think it needs to be looked into before someone gets killed. I don't know if it is pertaining to this complaint, but i do want to mention that at 27,000 miles i also had to replace both rear control arms. There seems to be a real problem with the suspension system on the vehicle. Please look into it.

I heard a loud noise and the entire side of my car collapsed on the right side. Something was sticking into the tire. I had to have it towed to the dealers and repaired. It cost us over $500. It was still under the dealers warranty, but was not covered. We feel we should be reimbursed. *tr

I've owned 2 santa fe's in a row (2001 & 2004). Both had engine failures around 60,000 miles (both on freeway). The 2004 failed at night in the middle of the arizona desert- these both presented me with a very serious safety hazard. I was driving at 70 mph when the engine lost power and made a terrible noise. I end up getting towed over 150 miles to hyundai dealer. Small block failed and was replaced in both- hyundai covered the 2001 but only covered 35% of the 2004 (86 miles out of warranty). Never buy hyundai's again!!! *tr

Airbag light came on. Diagnosed as faulty wiring. Dealer got it to go out, but if it comes back on again they say the entire passenger side airbag needs to be replaced. Dealer cannot say if the air bag will deploy in an accident and says that the manufacturer will not say either. Now, the light is out behind the heater control button. Once again diagnosed as faulty wiring. Faulty wiring sounds like a factory problem to me. All services on this vehicle have been done since day one as recommended by the manufacturer. *tr

I purchased a used 2004 hyundai santa fe in aug/2005 from a hyundai dealership (# ). In aug/2006, the airbag light came on. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the results were "code B1382 psab resistance high - resecure connector under the passenger seat/clear code". In feb/2008, the airbag sensor again appeared. The same technical code was detected, and the dealership resolution was to "reroute wire harness". In mar/2008, the airbag light again appeared and was serviced by the dealership. In nov/2008, the vehicle was again taken to the dealership due to the airbag light appearing. At the time of service in nov/2008, the vehicle was out of warranty. The dealership indicated they would not fix the airbag free of charge under the warranty, at which time, they were informed that a complaint would be filed under the california lemon law due to repeat fixes for the same issue. The dealership then fixed the issue. On nov. 26, 2008, the vehicle was hit in a high-speed rear end collision (~35mph) while at a stop light and pushed into an intersection, where it broadsided a moving vehicle. As a result of the impacts, the hyundai was totaled, all rear seated passengers sustained injury due to the spare tire being lifted from the initial impact and raising the 60/40 split rear seat and pushing it forward, the front passenger received chest contusions and the driver of the vehicle sustained upper body injuries. Despite being pushed forward and making a strong impact, the airbags failed to deploy. I requested hyundai investigate the matter, and they determined that although the front right of the vehicle was damaged from the secondary impact, it was not sufficient to warrant airbag deployment. I researched complaints from other hyundai owners regarding repeated airbag sensor light repairs and other airbag failures, including stories of crashes into poles with failed airbags. Hyundai has not issued any recall, but they probably should. *tr

Car shuts off while driving, losing power steering and brakes, while traveling at highway speed or braking down a windy canyon road. Problem includes intermittent jerking, jumping, hiccupping - whatever you want to call it, it's not safe to drive. First month, after brand-new ny dealership purchase, i replaced my throttle position sensor 3 times. Trouble with my current problem began at 4 years, well under 30,000 miles. For a year i had to fear for my life every time i drove, never knowing if this trip would kill me or other motorists. Why did i have to drive it? Because the hyundai dealerships in los angeles couldn't diagnose the problem if they couldn't cause it to happen and there is no error code when tested. A year of fear. Just the hesitation jerking is scary enough while driving, but when it actually shuts down? When your rpm indicator drops from 2,000 to 0 and you're fighting for your life turning the stuck steering wheel and pulling up the emergency brake hoping you don't careen off a winding cliff or coast head on into unsuspecting traffic or clicking your hazards on and praying no one hits you on an oily rain slick pavement at night on the 101 freeway - that is when it really makes your heart jump out of your chest. After 11 months of shutting off, it got so bad it wouldn't turn on again and finally my check engine light came on and they were able to diagnose the crank shaft sensor. In the process of fixing, they made a leak in my power steering hose and damaged my pump. Because it was days after my warranty, the van nuys dealership charged me for the crank shaft sensor and other damage! 33,000 miles on my car. Well, that was november 2009. It's now 2015 (70,540 miles) and once again, i'm okayed to drive my unsafe car. The performance of these vehicles put drivers at an unreasonable risk of accident and since there is no error code, hyundai will do nothing.

Engine- defective short block engine car is back in shop now for the 5th time for the same problem. Check engine light on, loud rattling noises coming from engine. In reviewing this website, i see countless numerous and similar complaints! The engine is the heart of a car so how many new hearts is hyundai willing to put in this one car? It cost more to fix this problem than to just accept the loss and properly compensate me! Repairs are as follows: new short block engine installed; return car same day b/c engine felt "loose"; told it was the sway bar links- installed same day; car still felt loose, next day check engine light on- car returned. This time told it was strut top needed to be replaced- done. Picked up car, 2 days later back in shop for same initial loud engine noise and check engine light on again. Told same problem with short block engine to be defective. Ordered brand new short block engine and replaced again! Picked up car after repair and again, same day, brought the car back b/c check engine light on again! Car presently still in shop and i'm forced to contact an attorney b/c the hyundai's consumer affairs states as long as the dealer keeps fixing the problem, they are not interested in offering me any compensation. Failure of driver's side frontal airbag to deploy on a 2004 hyundai santa fe. My wife was driving her santa fe on a two-lane country road in western pennsylvania. Weather and road conditions were normal, with no ice, snow, or other slipping hazards on the road. As she rounded a curve a car was stopped directly in front of her and because her vision was obstructed by landscale along the road she could not see the other vehicle (a 1988 jeep truck) before she struck it. Damage to the jeep was minimal (broken rear window and bent bumper), but damage to the front of her santa fe was extensive, estimated about $9,500. I called our local hyundai dealership in montgomery, alabama to urge them to contact the manufacturer about a potential airbag malfunction. I was told by the service department the failure of the airbag to deploy was not unusual because the airbag deployment sensors are located well back from the front of the car. Given the severe damage to the car (the front is extensively crushed) and the pennsylvania state troopers observation that he was surprised the airbag did not deploy, hyundai should address this potential problem. *tr

The vehicle wasn't recognizing gears, continuing to thrust the car into hard stops, jerking repeatedly as i tried to accelerate. Heading home, it happened again. I told them to drive it some distance. Service advisor drove it and nothing. They drove it again, duplicated the problem, recorded data. Called their tech line, unhooked rear coupler to see if that was it. They replaced the rear coupler, test drove it and said it was fixed. I questioned if it could be the transmission. Was told they couldn't replace things on a whim. 10/26: problem occurred (same distance). Wife phoned service advisor,he told her the vehicle was fixed previously. Towed it to a nearby dealer. Since this time, the following has occurred: 10/31: wrote a detailed letter and sent it to hyundai. 11/04: letter was received. 11/20: didn't hear back, i phoned hyundai. 11/22: representative phoned (i was unavailable). 11/27: spoke with rep; told to contact service manager to set up appt with a factory rep next time they are at dealership. 11/28: sent email with letter to the service manager and hyundai, asking for a call back. 11/29: received survey from hyundai, i responded unfavorably. 12/06: received email from hyundai, again referring me to the service manager. This is a genuine a lack of service from our dealership and hyundai itself. Most importantly it's a safety concern. I ask you to consider this information. Please assist me in any way that you can. Respectfully, brandan pierard. *nm

The 1st -dec. 23 2004. My husband and i was traveling on the interstate and the car began to slow down. My husband pulled to the side of the road and there was smoke coming from the brakes. After getting out and inspecting for problems we got back in the car and attempted to proceed forward and the car would not move. We called the tow truck. By the time car got to the service department, they were able to drive the vehicle. When they did their inspection, they could not find any problems. We went a week later and pick the car up and drove away. Within 2 weeks, a similar problem arose, but the car was still drivable; therefore we did not take it in, but did call to inform the dealership of the problem. In february 2006, the problem came again and the car had to be towed to the nearest dealer. Initially there was no problem found, but i requested they check the brakes and it was a faulty master cylinder. This was replaced. Within 2 months, we were pulling from the driveway and it appeared my husband had mistakenly put his foot on the gas, however we were sure it was the brakes and the engine revved up and continued to move forward. We called and reported and they said we could bring it in for service., however they rely on the computer to indicate the problem. No problem existed based on the computer. As recent as saturday, april 8, 2006, my son and i was driving and i was pulling behind a line of cars that were stopping at a stop light and the engine revved as i put my foot on the brakes. The car did not stop until i quickly put it in park. We took the car in today, monday, april 10 and again, no problem being found. I called the hyundai customer service, who is investigating the incident. My concern is that we know that there is a problem, but since we now rely solely on computer to locate problems we may never get the problem solved. I hope it doesn't take an accident to get this problem resolved. *nm

My pregnant wife was driving down the highway. There was no accident. There were no warning signs before it was to late. Wife saw smoke coming up from the engine of our 2004 hyundai santa fe (odo 24,000 miles). She pulled over to the curb. The vehicle had never done this before. My pregnant wife was pulled out of the burning vehicle by a passerby. Wife suffered a contusion to her right cheek during this incident. She did not know the vehicle was on fire. She notified 911 who sent a fire truck and police officer. The vehicle exploded at least 3 times as she waited outside in the cold, frenzied by the disaster. The fire was so intense that the front wheels were melted. A policeman and 2 fire trucks responded to the blaze. The vehicle has been declared a total loss by allstate. Reliable imports (springfield, mo.) would not even help us obtain a rental car. The safety features of this hyundai vehicle were proudly acclaimed by the car salesman and manager at the dealership. Both the manufacturer and the dealership have been unhelpful in helping us in any way. The vehicle was under a full bumper-to-bumper, new vehicle warranty. They will not accept responsibility for the fire, and do not offer to conduct their own investigation on the vehicle. Hyundai and reliable imports show complete disinterest in the vehicle's spontaneous combustion, and show the world no concern over the fact that this may prove to be a non-isolated event. Since then, reliable imports in springfield, missouri has fiendishly sent me an email reminder to have my vehicle service renewed. The insurance company and hyundai both failed to instruct me to file my complaint @ nhtsa. An attorney instructed me to file the complaint here. *jb

Allstate found that there was 1) water pump failure 2) some form of drive belt failure, and 3) the interference engine had parts collide within the engine leading to a fire. This occurred as my pregnant wife was driving down the road. Hyundai is currently negotiating with me to reimburse me for the total loss. Of course, they are not offering me what i lost on the investment at this point. The dealership was found to not be liable by the bbb; therefore i am communicating directly with representatives at hyundai motor co. I am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle, and i am curious about whether we are the only family that this has happened to. I can provide you with the 12 page insurance company report; i lack any knowledge of engines and how they work, but it appears to me that this is an extreme danger to consumers. I believe this should be investigated further. Since hyundai is willing to settle with me, it can only be recognized that they know this product was unsafe. I have filed a complaint with the nhtsa and numerous other sites. In fact, i have created my own blog: www.Flaminghyundai.Blogspot.Com, which has links to 5 other blog pages describing my story. What is so crazy about all of this is you can find 50 stupid & petty things recalled at walmart everyday, but a vehicle catches fire and your told "it's an act of god." please feel free to contact me at anytime; i welcome your response. Thank you. *nm

Abs brakes engaging prematurely. 1st instance after heavy rain stopped at stop sign on slight slope abs engaged and kept moving vehicle out onto road. Dealer could not find any problem, however there was a recall to adjust brakes. 2nd instance on snow covered down grade vehicle in front stopped to make left turn and i put my foot on brake ,immediately the abs brakes engaged causing my vehicle to slide into the other vehicle the engaging of the abs brakes increased the stopping distance of my vehicle and caused the accident abs brakes are worthless in slow stops on slippery roads and there should be a switch to shut them off. *jb

I was in a serious car accident back in december 7, 2005 with my 2004 hyundia sante fe. The car was totaled and scrapped thus i do not have the vin number handy. I do still have the paperwork from the hospital and the personal injury lawyer. The airbags did not deploy. I was the only person in the vehicle. I was driving home from work on my usual route on easton avenue. I'm told (reports from witnessess) a young girl came out of a side street and hit me in the rear drivers side which in turn spun my car into 2 other vehichles on the opposite side of the road i was travelling down. As stated earlier i have little recall since the impact knocked me unconscious. I suffered a broken nose (scar still there) and torn left shoulder- which still bother me daily. I was hit blindside and spin into 2 other vehicles- knocked unconscious. I still suffer nightmares resulting from this accident and am currently seeing a counselor specilizing in trauma and ptsd.

In january of 2005, i was driving my 2005 hyundai santa fe 3.5l gls. I stopped at a light and remained stopped for a while. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated and despite depressing the brakes, i could not stop it from lunging forward. I had to quickly get it out of gear to make it stop, and fortunately did not hit anyone. I took it to rowe hyundai in westbrook, maine (where i bought it) and the service department said they could not duplicate it nor could they identify the problem. On 2-22-05, i was stopped at a stop sign with my foot on the brake, when suddently the engine accelerated quickly and loudly. I depressed the brake harder yet could not stop the vehicle from lunging forward. Before i could get it out of gear, it rear-ended the person parked in front of me. This caused damage to both vehicles. I had it towed to the dealer and have contacted hyundai motor america about this.

The problem started december 27, 2004 as i was pulling up a private drive and attempting to stop my sante fe. As i approached the top of the drive i applied braking, my vehicle slowed and came close to what i thought would be a full stop when the abs brake system suddenly activated. I held the brake pedal down but the braking distance increased and it was then that it made contact with a parked truck. The vehicles hit front bumper to front bumper. Fortunately no one was injured but both vehicles were damaged from the impact. My vehicle had been recalled previously for a problem with the abs brakeswhich, according to the recall noticewere prone to unexpectedly activate at low speeds. I had other two incidents before the recall notice in which this same type of unexpected abs activation had occurredboth at under 5 mph and when the vehicle was near stopped. I feel hyundai needs to address my vehicle status, the safety of the abs brake operation on my vehicle and others like mine, and the cost of repairs to my vehicle and the truck i collided with december 27, 2004. I cannot state strongly enough how dissatisfied and frustrated i am with hyundais lack of responselet alone their lack of action. I truly hope your office will be able to help in this matter. I will gladly cooperate in any way you may deem necessary. Please note: i also called and discussed this matter with your office. I am completing this form as a follow-up to that conversation.

Mainly the passenger side rear door and once in awhile the driver side rear door will lock automatically and the rest of the other doors remain unlocked. The door does not lock everytime, but it happens enough that i am very worried. Luckily, there has only been a few "emergency" situations that i had to quickly get to my son and i was unable to get there because the door locked. February we purchased a 2004 hyundai santa fe for our soon to be 16 year old son to drive. Most immediately we noticed an intermittent problem with the vehicle. When attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle will stutter 3 times as if it were going to die and then it recovers. We have taken the vehicle into the dealership at least 6 times, the most recent this morning. Today they would not even take the car in as they could not duplicate the problem and had no idea what to repair. I took copies of other nhtsa complaints and service bulletins with me in an effort to help them with ideas, but to no avail. They made an appointment for us to come back on october 20, 2004 to see if there are any updates from hyundai that might fix the problem then.
