• Recall 248564 [USA]: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2010-2019 borrego, 2014-2016 cadenza, 2010-2013 forte, forte koup, sportage, 2015-2018 k900, 2011-2015 optima, 2011-2013 optima hybrid, soul, 2012-2017 rio, 2011-2014 sorento, and 2010-2011 rondo vehicles. The hydraulic electronic control unit (hecu) may experience an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
  owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the hecu fuse, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed november 14, 2023. The first owner notification letters were mailed march 29, 2024. Kia will continue a phased mailing as the remedy becomes available for different makes and model vehicles. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. • Recall 139603 [USA]: If the frontal air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain 2010-2013 kia forte, forte koup, 2011-2013 kia optima and 2011-2012 kia optima hybrid and sedona vehicles. In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (acu) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags and seat belt pretensioners from deploying.

For model year 2011 sedona vehicles, kia will instruct dealers to verify the acu part number and, if necessary, install an extension wire harness kit between the acu connector and the vehicle harness connector. For all other affected vehicles, kia will instruct dealers to install the extension wire harness kit. The recall began september 28, 2018. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. • Recall 2021040 [Canada]: Engine
  Issue: kia canada is conducting a product improvement campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: this only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.4 l mpi engine. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: kia recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the owner's manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, kia advises you to immediately visit a kia dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

  On certain vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, the transmission’s fluid cooler hose may have been improperly manufactured. This could result in transmission fluid leaking from the hose, and cause abnormal transmission shifts and/or illumination of the instrument cluster malfunction indicator lamp. If enough fluid is lost, the loss of hydraulic pressure to the transaxle could cause a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the cooler hose with the revised hose.

• Hyundai and kia abs module fires investigation # AQ23002

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received eight hyundai motor america (hyundai) and eight kia america, inc. (kia) part 573 recall reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (abs) modules or hydraulic electronic control units (hecu) manufactured by the equipment supplier mando. The part 573 recall reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by mando. Safety recalls included in this audit query (aq) review include: hyundai recalls 20v-520, 20v-543, 21v-161, 21v-160, 21v-303, 22v-056, 22v-810, and 23v-651. • Loss of motive power investigation # DP22003

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received a petition on july 13, 2022, requesting a defect investigation into an alleged defect of the "oil drain pan assemblies" on the following 83 models/model year vehicles stated by the petitioner: 2006-2019 hyundai sonata, 2013-2018 hyundai santa fe sport, 2010-2012 and 2019-2020 hyundai santa fe, 2010-2015 and 2018-2019 hyundai tucson, 2011-2021 kia sportage 2005-2020 kia optima, 2011-2020 kia sorento, 2010-2013 kia forte, 2010-2013,kia forte coup, and 2007-2010 kia rondo vehicles equipped with the 1.6l t-gdi gamma, 2.4l theta ii gdi, 2.4l in-line gdi theta ii, kappa, and 3.8l v-shaped gdi lambda-ii engines. The petition also cites additional hyundai/kia vehicles that use similar drain pan assemblies as the above-mentioned vehicles as having drain pan assembly failures. The petitioner provided subject and peer vehicles information related to alleged engine failures. The petition itself can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11481745.According to the petition, the hyundai/kia vehicle owners have made allegations of oil leakage failures occurring at highway speeds, without malfunction, indicator lights, or the leakage associated with under-tightening an oil drain plug, or a plug or pan with damaged thread. The alleged defects are causing engines to seize and loss of motive power. A defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition. The petitioner identified a number of complaints received by nhtsa alleging complete engine failure from a variety of models stated above along with other models. • Air bags may be disabled during crash investigation # PE18003

  The office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe18-003 on 3/16/18 to investigate incidents involving crashes, resulting in significant collision related damage, where the frontal airbags failed to deploy. Odi reviewed complaint data, available design, test, and field data on the model year (my) 2011 hyundai sonata, my 2012-2013 kia forte and forte koup vehicles. Odi also evaluated data from the automotive air bag system supplier, zf-trw (zf), to review vehicles that may contain the same air bag control unit (acu) used in the subject vehicles. Hyundai motor america (hma) issued recall no. 18v-137 for my 2011-2013 sonata and my 2012 sonata hybrid vehicles. Kia motors america (kma) issued recall no. 18v-363 for my 2010-2013 kia forte and forte koup, my 2011-2013 optima, my 2011-2012 optima hybrid, and my2011-2012 sedona vehicles. The two recalls address vehicles containing acus manufactured without adequate circuit protection by installing a wire harness filter kit to prevent internal damage to the acu. In the event of a crash, acu damage may result in the disablement of the vehicles airbags. Each respective manufacturer has mailed letters to affected vehicle owners informing them of the remedy and its availability. Odi plans to evaluate the susceptibility of the subject acu to electrical signals, as well as other vehicle factors that can either lead to, or reduce the likelihood of, an electrical overstress event in other vehicles manufactured with the subject zf acu.Accordingly, this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea19-001), to expand the scope of the investigation to include the tier-one supplier and any manufacturers who installed the subject acu in production vehicles. I have had a ticking noise coming from my engine for a while and just in the past 2 months the ticking has gotten much louder. The check engine light has come on and went off- i had to replace the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor. The ticking sound still continues -brought to kia thought it could possibly be internal engine failure starting to occur based on sound of engine but nothing definite. I have felt safe with this car but now not so sure. I have faithfully changed my oil every 3 months since i bought this car brand new in 2011.

Brake light illuminates when car is off, i have to push up on brake pedal to turn it off. While driving it seems like the brake engages causing the car to lose power, i have to step off the gas, and reapply and sometimes it still feels like the brake is still engaged. This issue does happen at least 3 times daily. Pushing up on the brake pedal does get it to stop until i have to brake. While driving my traction control light will illuminate. I have replaced the brake light switch twice in 2021, thinking this would fix the issue and it does not. Has been an ongoing issue for the past couple months

Around 85,000 miles on a 2011 kia forte koup the engine started ticking and became more pronounced. Brought it to a mechanic and they told me to bring to kia because so many were being recalled. It's rod bearing. I've had all necessary oil changes and work done to it throughout the years.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia forte. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to decelerate. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer fred beans kia of langhorne (1801 lincoln hwy, langhorne, pa 19047, (267)436-4961) and made the dealer aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired yet. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000.*dt*jb*dt the consumer stated the manufacturer advised the vehicle was not included in the recall. *js*dt

I have had regular oil changes on it, every 3000-5000 miles. After hearing the ticking i took it in to my mechanic who said this is a regular occurrence with kia fortes and that the only fix is replacing or repairing the engine. I have been doing a lot of research and reading a lot of complaints on this website about kia engines going bad around 100,000 miles and i believe you should look into kia for this. There needs to be a recall on kia's engines.
