• Recall 92729 [USA]: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. additionally, when the ignition is in the 'on' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of park without first applying the brake. this may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  Hyundai motor company (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 accent, model year 2007-2011 azera, sonata and sante fe,2006-2011 tucson, 2009-2011 elantra touring, 2007-2010 elantra, 2008-2011 veracruz, 2009-2011 genesis, 2010-2011 genesis coupe, 2007-2008 entourage, and 2006-2008 tiburon vehicles. Originally, in april 2013, hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 accent and tucson, model year 2007-2010 elantra, model year 2007-2011 santa fe, model year 2008-2009 veracruz, model year 2010-2011 genesis coupe, and model year 2011 sonata vehicles. In september 2013, hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the park position and cause the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate.

  Curt manufacturing is recalling certain tow package wiring harnesses, part number 55538, that connect tow vehicle lighting circuits to trailer lighting circuits sold for use on certain model year 2009 through 2011 hyundai santa fe vehicles. The units are not water-tight and moisture can seep into the converter module and defeat the module's internal circuit protection.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, engine oil can leak from the valve cover onto the alternator. If this happens, the charging system could stop working and cause a warning light to turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with this problem, the engine could shut off while driving, and you may not be able to restart it. Note: this recall replaces C0260 (transport canada recall 2016-309). Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.   Issue: certain vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer wiring harness kit that could fail. Over time, this could result in a short circuit that can cause overheating of the control module. Note: this recall only affects hyundai genuine accessory trailer wiring harness kits that were manufactured by third parties and sold in canada. These kits may have been ordered at the time of a vehicle purchase, or purchased separately from a dealer as an aftermarket accessory. Safety risk: a short circuit could create a fire risk. This risk remains even when the vehicle is parked. Corrective actions: hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to inspect your vehicle to see if it has an affected trailer wiring harness installed. If it does, hyundai will advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a redesigned trailer wiring harness. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

  This recall was replaced by transport canada recall no. 2021-653. On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.3l v6 engine, engine oil can leak onto the alternator, which could affect charging system function and potentially cause the engine to stall and not restart. This would result in a loss of motive power as well as affect power braking and power steering system function, which would unexpectedly increase steering and brake pedal effort, potentially increasing stopping distances and the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the front valve cover gasket and repair/replace the alternator, as necessary, under a special service campaign.

• Throttle control system vulnerabilities investigation # DP21003

  The office of defects investigation of the national highway traffic safety administration received a petition letter dated october 10, 2021 requesting an investigation of an alleged defect(s) in the electronic throttle control system in certain model year (my) 2005-2016 kia optima/k5, my 2006-2015 kia sorento, my 2007-2016 hyundai elantra, my 2007-2016 hyundai santa fe, my 2006-2015 hyundai sonata vehicles. The petition was filed as a vehicle owner questionnaire that can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under reference (odi) number 11439675. The petitioners allege the subject vehicles exhibit a range of dangerous vehicle speed control problems including sudden uncommanded acceleration, runaway throttle conditions, surging, stalling and loss of motive power, all due to various defects and vulnerabilities in the electronic throttle control system.This defect petition has been opened to evaluate the allegation and determine whether to grant or deny the petitioners request.

While exiting highway, decelerating but still going mid-range speed (about 40 mph), car stalled and all power was lost. Could no longer control direction and almost slammed into median the first time (two days ago) and today, almost slammed into oncoming traffic.

Slowed down to pull into parking spot and suddenly car picked up speed and crash through a vacant store front. Car stopped after hitting a wall and moved what ever was on the other side of the wall. Air bags did not deploy driver of car was shaken up but no physical injuries. Car damaged towed to junk yard and insurer totaled vehicle.

This has happened on more than one occasion. My car will suddenly try to stop and then it will accelerate really fast. I am not commanding it to do so with my foot. It is very scary. Then my car will just go cold.. The dash lights will all light up, blink on and off and then it leaves me stranded. I have to turn the vehicle off and sit there for a little before it will ignite again. It did this in the publix parking lot as i was pulling into a spot to park and i almost hit a person walking by. It is like somebody has control of my vehicle and is accelerating and braking. While driving on the interstate, i approached my exit. As i am slowing down, the engine shuts off and steering becomes very hard. I quickly shifted into neutral to restart the car to avoid a crash. There were no warning lights on the dash before shutting down. I immediately took it to a mechanic to see what the problem was. He said he saw none. This has been going on since september 2020 and it is happening more than one time a day. Since then, i have taken it to 4 other mechanics who have all told me that they don't see any problems. I take chances everyday not knowing when the car will shut down on me while driving because this is my only vehicle that i just bought in april of 2020. This is a very serious problem that should've been looked into.

The fuel gage is broken, it reads empty when full. The abs light came on and took it in to fix it. $400.00 later it was fixed. Now i hear clinking sound from engine. I think the pistons rings are bad. I've read other similar complaints about this vehicle. Nhtsa needs to investigate!

My gas gage started to work improperly. I took it to a mechanic i trust. He told me the fuel pump senders were bad. After he removed them he called me to tell me i was lucky my vehicle didn't catch fire or blow up! One sender has insulation broken and the wire is exposed. He also found that an internal wire was even worst. The protective connector was gone! That left those wires with no protection. They show signs of bad corrosion on both the wires and the terminals. They appear to maybe even have shorted out. They are black and a rust orange color. They are also pitted. I contacted hyundai. They didn't seem to care. They were more concerned that i hadn't brought my car to a dealer for over five years. I explained that two different dealerships here in miami had cheated me and treated me badly. The representative was trying to insist if i had brought my vehicle in they would have discovered the problem sooner. That is just not true. They only way to observe this problem was to physically remove the backseat and open the floor to expose the gas tank and then remove the pump! They will not do anything! I have the feeling that they won't even report this to their own company or to you. I still have the parts. They were also not interested in seeing them or pictures. They just don't care! What if my car caught fire? What if the fumes ignited? Anyone in the backseat would have been either killed or injured!
