Bought car on friday(7/20/18). Upon arriving home and after getting acquainted and accustomed to car, detected the following problems that i was unable to detect during test drive. After reviewing car fax report and dmv car info, was aware of car history, after verifying carfax indicated they would purchase back my car if determined to be a lemon, i purchased vehicle w/ full confidence. Arriving home, determined the following safety issues with the car that i was unable to notice during a routine test drive. Upon driving vehicle at home, noticed immediately the following safety issue's 1.)brake system~applyinging breaks, prior to stopping the car jerks to an abrupt stop making pax in vehicle experience a whiplash effect 2.) determined at home after reading manual, that the red light illumination when accelerating vehicle found out it was the "priority light" indicating coolant fluid level low. 3.) also, attempted to go shopping on saturday but when arrived at store realized car would not lock w/ either remote or key. Both do not lock vehicle, unable the status of alarm, and while car is parked, still unable to keep doors n vehicle locked. Informed dealer and assured me it would be inspected and addressed . Also, informed dealer for some assistance after paying over $5k cash. Above are listed problems determined, notified dealer and asked me to bring in on monday for 2'nd attempt. Paid to much money to have to go through these tragedies when dealer should have at least been up front and honest when he assured me vehicle had no issues rather the hanging up on me the first time i tried to contact dealer on saturday, day after purchase.

Following was sent to us customs. I'm at risk in this car, by jaguar design error-and refusal to correct the error. [xxx] in my case the car suddenly and spontaneously, without apparent reason, went into what jaguar calls 'limp home' mode, a walking pace. Fortunately it happened on an urban parkway, posted at 55 mph, and i had just turned right, on to it, into the right-hand lane. The problem is common to jaguar cars as shown by internet postings. Jaguar have stated that limp home cannot be disabled because it is intended for the safety of the mechanical parts of their cars. I have a string of communications running from november 2nd that i could send to provide greater detail, but i'd like to know what you folks can do, and whether there are good legal ground to support my demands. I have made this initial contact with us customs because jaguar exports cars to the us with unstable computer systems compromising their safety and i believe that you connect with nhtsa. But my problem is immediate and i'd like some assurance that my case will be dealt with quickly, and that i can be in contact with a person that i can send further material to. Attached is initial letter to jlr. At their request i contacted jlr north america in mah wah nj. (jaguar land rover north america executive case: 8000216414 / your 2006 s-type.) they sent me on to local dealers. All have stated they won't disable the limp home mode because it protects the mechanical parts of the car ... (and puts humans at risk as a result). They have been as capricious in dealing with my complaint as they have been with the careless design of their limp home mode! I think jlr has failed the u.S. Import regulations and would like cbp to order them to disable the limp home mode. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6). *tr*jb

I have a jaguar whose front leaper on the hood has fallen off due to the wires rusting because water accumulates in it, then it ultimately comes undone and falls off due to the disintegration of the rusty wiring that holds the leaper onto the hood. This appears to be a design defect. The leaper is a heavy piece of metal and could do damage to vehicles that may be traveling behind or to the owner?S vehicle itself should this come off while driving on the highway. I contacted my local jaguar dealership to advise the service manager and was told that they have had this occur in the past but there is no manufacture fix or recall known, just parts from hardware store that they use to reattach the leaper on the hood. However, they would re affix if my car is under warranty, but the car is barely just over warranty period. Even if they do reaffix the leaper, it is not with jaguar parts and vibration could loosen the nut, where it again may come off. The leaper also came off on another jaguar we owned as well, but we were not sure where it was lost - on roadway or highway. I an concerned that the leaper coming off could become a real safety issue if this occurs at high speeds any time on the highway. The good news is that i notice the newer jaguar models no longer have the standing leaper on the front of the hoods, but have been replaced by an emblem design. Perhaps jaguar knows about the leaper coming undone and they have re-designed. However, what of the cars that currently have the leaper on the hood? *tr

I am investigating a fatal collision involving a vehicle fire of a 2006 jaguar s type 4dr sedan. The fuel filter is located inside the left front fender well and is not protected by any frame component. The fuel shut off switch is located directly behind the left front wheel well. The victim vehicle was struck in an offset head on manner on the driver's (left side), directly impacting the area of the fuel filter. The fuel line was torn off of the filter, and it does not appear that the shut off switch actually worked, thereby pumping gasoline onto the front of the car as it slid across the road. The car was quickly engulfed in flames, and the driver who was pinned into the car died as a result of the fire. My case # is [xxx]. *tr

2006 s type jaguar. In february 2008, i brought my car in for warranty work performed. The reason was due to a 'restricted performance error' light. They dealer was able to correct it via the replacement of a new coil. The bottom line was that my vehicle entered restrictive performance anytime i would attempt to pass any vehicle on straight stretch of road and would have to accelerate to 80 miles an hour. The vehicle would go into 'restricted performance' and drop my speed until i had to pull off the road. Clearly, a dangerous scenario. In december of 08, the issue returned. I took my car back to the dealer as it is still under warranty. They could not locate any of the error codes related to the restricted performance ' the same case as last year. I had to return to the dealer because the issue resurfaced in a very dangerous situation. I was attempting to pass 2 tractor trailers and once again, accelerated to nearly 80 and the vehicle went into restricted performance. I had an angry trucker tailgating until i pulled off to the side of the road going less than 50 miles an hour with my foot pressed to the floor of the accelerator. Due to the restricted performance issue, that was the fastest i could go and my speed continued to drop. I returned the vehicle to the dealer service nearly three weeks ago. Service has stated they are working w/jaguar. They are attempting to again recreate the scenario in a same model, make and year vehicle on their lot. I was told service was attempting to determine if this is normal issue for the vehicle. Frankly, i find it hard to believe that jaguar would manufacture a vehicle with a flaw that could be fatal. I am very concerned that i will be forced to take this vehicle back and no real resolution will have been provided. I do not want to put my family at risk because jaguar and the service dept can not fix the issue. *tr

February 4, 2009 our s type r jaguar was the victim of a rapid acceleration/runaway. On february 3 the electronic throttle shut the vehicle off when it was stopped on three or four occasions. The next day, as the vehicle was being driven out of the driveway, the throttle stuck in the open position causing the car to careen out of control. It was towed to hornberg jaguar in hollywood and the service writer tittered and laughed at my fiance. Thereafter i received a phone call the next day telling me that the vehicle had suffered front-end damage and that we should call our insurance company. I told her i would have my technical expert who was a product liability witness for me in trials many years ago, pick up the vehicle and tell me what had really happened. I then received a communication that jaguar was going to send a technical engineer to inspect the vehicle. Nine days later while i was out of state, i received a phone call with a message that the "codes" had been downloaded, there was nothing wrong with the car. There never was an investigation, not even an interview of the driver, no photographs taken of the damage pattern, and to make matters worse, the vehicle brain box was downloaded and then erased. My technical expert tells me the erasure was intentional and was designed to cover up the code which would have indicated an electronic throttle malfunction. My technical expert is alberto ferroni at ital meccanica, 714-893-5096. If no problem existed why did they lie to me and tell me they were sending a technical expert to look at the car, never even interview the driver, and then intentionally erase the brain box? Moreover the dealers initial intake form which was not signed by my fiance is false and fraudulent and makes no reference whatsoever to the runaway. It makes no reference to my providing the service writer with a detailed statement on the following day. *tr

On at least four occasions, and upon starting the vehicle, the engine, after 10 to 30 seconds, rapidly accelerates to 4,000 - 6,000 rpm. The only way to restrict the rapid acceleration is to shut the engine off with the ignition key. *jb

At 37,092 the thermostat froze, blowing the radiator hose. At 52,058 another thermostat froze, blowing the radiator. Was told by jaguar service that these freeze, and i should bring my jaguar in every 16,000 miles just to be certain. When radiator hose blows, no telling where we might be and situation could be dangerous. *nm

When i bought the car a week later it blew hot air, i was told it only needed freon. I found out later that there was a leak and it is $1200. A week after that the car would not start the dealer picked the car up and said that the battery was dead because i left the radio on, it has happened over 30 times, not true there is something wrong. I have replaced tires at least six times. Tires completely separate. I was driving and car slowed down on freeway and i was almost hit, i pulled over and it stopped and did it again and i had to push the traction control button, almost cost me my life! It now happens when i hit a bump. When i turn the car makes a extremely loud noise, (embarrassing) i was told it is a ball joint and can catch on fire. Engine light has always been on and is now blinking and the car shakes and hesitates. I had to pay to get the brakes fixed 2 months after purchasing. Radio turns on for no reason and runs battery down. I was told i have two leaks in my shocks and it is $1800 each. When i back up and turn the steering wheel vibrates. I can't even use the cigarette lighter to charge my cell because it does not work and has been replaced twice. The remote just stop working and i was charged $100 to reconfigure. The brakes act funny, can't even explain it. This car is unreal, a complete piece of junk. I can't even remember half the stuff i have endured and the money i have spent. *nm

A jaguar 2000 was purchased on dec 2003. It had 39000 miles. I have only put on 4000 miles on this car and the ball joint broke the other day and i was almost killed. The car was towed to a local foreign auto place and jaguar refuses to repair the ball joint. Claiming they will only take the claim from a registered jaguar dealer. So the car was towed today to momentum jaguar on the sw freeway and i was told that the ball joint was replaced on the drivers side in april 2001 and it broke again???In less that 43000 miles we have had 2 defective ball joints?? And the passenger side is defective as well and needs to be changed!! This is a serious defect and jaguar is disclaiming any and all responsibility...It also has a/c problems and electrical problems. The sensors do not work and were replaced last year. The window regulators broke and were charged to me.. The rear passenger side of the car is falling off ....It is always overheating . It is unbelievable and i only drove it 4000 miles in the last 2 years that i own it!!!!!!Surely this is a lemon in the first degree!!!! *jb

On my 2000 s-type 4.0 i have had two transmissions replaced and is in need of a third. Jaguar's position (from corporate), that it is not unusual for a transmission to go under 50,000 miles, however, they refuse to put it in writing. There are probably hundreds if not thousands of owners going through the same problem. On every website there are complaints about failing transmissions. Jaguar definitely is aware of the problem but offers no assistance. I am willing to bet there is some corporate memo regarding how to cover this up. *nm
