    Dope, inc. Is recalling 42,540 combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies of various part numbers sold for use as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles. These headlamps fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." these lamps do not contain the required amber side reflectors.
    dope, inc. Will notify owners and offer a full refund for the noncompliant combination lamps. The safety recall began on july 28, 2009. Owners may contact dope, inc. At 1-626-272-1798.

  • Recall 41266 [USA]: This does not meet the requirements of the standard.
    Certain passenger vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 208, 'occupant crash protection.' the bilingual english/spanish removable air bag warning labels affixed to the dash and to the sunvisor do not meet the size requirements of the standard.
    mitsubishi caribbean will mail a customer notification letter containing a written description and a graphic of the bi-lingual dashboard air bag warning label. In addition, all current 2000-2004 nativa owners will also receive replacement air bag alert labels for the sun visors. This recall is expected to begin during march or april 2005.   • Recall 5006 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. A bulge in the fuel tank caused by the manufacturing process resulted in thinning of the material during a welding operation, increasing the risk of fuel leakage.

  • Recall 6210 [USA]: Fluid leakage from the cooler hoses can cause transaxle driveability problems and smoke if the oil contacts the front exhaust pipe.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. A hose was mis-manufactured and could weaken over time, which could result in leakage of the automatic transmission fluid.
    dealers will replace the hose assembly for the automatic transmission oil cooler. Owner notification mailing will be phased over a five-month period starting march 26, through july 23, 2001.   • Recall 5942 [USA]: The rear anchor bolts securing the driver's seat may not properly secure the seat and could increase the risk of driver injury in an accident.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. A number of incorrect driver side seat mounting bolts were installed into vehicles.

    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The outer layer only of this 3-layer fuel return hose does not contain the desired ozone protection due to a processing error.

  • Recall 6139 [USA]: If any of these wires become short-circuited, the interior lamps, turn signal lamps, and rear stop lamps could stop working. this would fail to warn a following driver that the vehicle is turning or braking and could lead to a crash.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The routing of the wiring harness under the right and left side of the rear seat could allow the harness to contact the body. The wires in each harness control the stop lamp circuit, back-up lamp circuit, and the turn lamp circuit.
    dealers will re-route and secure the harnesses and, if necessary, repair any pre-existing wire insulation damage.

  • Recall 6221 [USA]: Prolonged wiring harness contact with the heat shield will cause the wiring insulation to wear and eventually to ground out. this could cause the engine to die-out, increasing the risk of a crash.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The harness for the crankshaft position sensor could come in contact with a new protective shield causing a grounded circuit.
    dealers will re-route the crankshaft position sensor harness.

  • Recall R/2000/090 [UK]: Fuel tank may crack and leak
    There is a possibility that the fuel tank may be incorrectly welded on its upper panel and baffle plate in the tank causing it to crack on the welded position. In the worst case this may cause the fuel tank to leak fuel.
    inspect the vehicles replace the fuel tanks if leaking and in cases where no abnormality is found apply a protector plate.

    In response to this investigation, mitsubishi motors north america (mmna) initiated a special program on july 31, 2009, to extend the warranty coverage on model year (my) 2001-2003 galant vehicle passenger side window switches to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first.Notification of this special coverage program to all registered vehicle owners is scheduled to begin in late-september 2009.Owners who have experienced a problem with the power window switch (blown fuse, intermittent operation or power window malfunction) or who spilled liquids or beverages onto the front passenger door window switch will be entitled to have the switch replaced and any related repairs performed at no charge.The agency is aware of 35 alleged front passenger door panel heat, smoke or fire incidents, including three reported minor burns or bruises.There are no reported crashes or fatalities.There are 307 warranty claims of switch malfunctions or short circuits without any reported heat, smoke or fire.Mmna inspection and analysis of fire-damaged door panels/switches found evidence of spilled liquids with high sugar content on the power window switches.Mmna claims the residue of these liquids led to a shorting/smoke/ fire condition inside the switch/door panel assembly.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency will continue to monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.See document file for additional information.

I have a 2001 black mitsubishi galant and last year the paint start oxidizing really bad. So after i had several people advise me that the paint should not be this way on a 5 yr old car (at the time) i called the corporate office. I was told they were not aware of any issues with the paint. I called back a few months later and was told they were aware of the problem and that i should take it to the local dealer so they could determine if it was defective. After taking pictures the dealer and corporate agreed the paint job was defective. They had my car for 1.5 weeks without providing me with a car to drive. I got my car back today and the areas they painted look great, but they didn't paint the whole car so colors do not match. Within a year there is going to be a huge difference. The corporate office said they refuse to do anymore about it. Where has customer service went. I for one will never buy another mitsubishi made product at all. If you google black mitsubishi galants with bad paint jobs you will see that there are hundreds of people with this problem. It looks like the problem started with the 1999 models and continues to the 2001 models. I'm sure the 2002's will be next. I have seen at least 5 more in my area with this problem and when i am able to speak with the owners i will ensure that they are aware that it is due to a defective paint job.

When battery cables are disconnected for service, the car stalls suddenly & repeatedly without warning. This continues for approximately 10-12 miles before returning to normal. Twice in 2007 when the battery cables were disconnected from the battery; once to clean acid build-up off the cables (5/07) & then again to install a new battery (10/07) , the car started right up and ran fine until out on the road and preparing to stop for a light and/or slowing down under 30 mph and then it died repeatedly. I took it back to the approved autonation dealer (power ford) as they were the ones that cleaned the cables along with my 40,000 mi service. An older mechanic said there is a sensor that has to 'reset' itself after being disconnected. He took the car out and drove it to put the miles on it, for it to stop. I have asked other people about that theory and no one seems to know about it. It is so dangerous i cannot believe it would continue for that many miles. I believe something is defective. This is the only time my car has ever given me trouble. It is very unsafe and i am filled with dread worrying about the next time something has to be checked or done involving the battery. *tr

In december 2005 the car started experiencing problems with a drop in power between 10 and 20 miles per hour. The dealer diagnosed is as shift surge and said the transmission had a leak, resulting in low fluid that overheated the transmission and caused internal damage. The surge occurred on and off for just a week. Now they say we have to replace the transmission and quote of $2,000 plus for a rebuilt transmission. They stated that if we had taken the car to them the first sign of shifting, they might have been able to fix it. A recall was issued for this car for transmission fluid leaks. I had taken this car to the same dealer in october no one mentioned any recalls. It is difficult to understand how a transmission needs to be replaced within four years. How can i determine if the previous owner actually had the work done that was necessary per the recall? If it had not been done, what liability does the dealer regarding this? The dealer said nothing about this. I noticed that there was a service bulletin issued in 2004 for shift surge. This is exactly the result of this internal damage. If the dealership received this in 2004, what is their obligation to make sure the cars have been appropriately served per the bulletin? May i see the service bulletin for this particular issue? It started to have a problem 3 months after purchase when the clear coat started to crack. They re-painted the roof. Now is is over the mileage for coverage under the warranty. We have even contacted corporate and they push us off on someone regional that continues to give us the run around. They have had two outside professionals look at it, and they both say the paint is definitely failing way before it should. That it is defective. There is a rattling noise coming from under my car (2001 mitsubishi galant). This is a noise that i have never heard before. So i took the car to two different mechanics and was told that the noise is due to a defective suspension rack. My car is only 4 years old and only has 44,500 miles on it. This is a manufacturing defect. I called the mitsubishi dealership in town and was told that the warranty had expired and that i was out of luck. But this is a major repair (the part is expensive, about $750) and it it not due to wear and tear. A suspension rack is not supposed to break on a 2001 car with only 44,500 miles. During pre-purchase inspections, dealership(s) did not had clear diagnostic explanation regarding cause and/or solution. Problem #2) rear passenger right side door, when door was shut, with the child safe lock unlocked, passenger is unable to open door from inside. Driver must open passenger door for passenger on the right, problem occur often on (average 8 out of 10 times). Problem was not discovered by dealership during pre-purchase inspection. Problem #3 & #4) moonroof will not shut during highway driving (above 40 mph) from tilted position. Driver have to open moonroof (press button toward rear side of vehicle) in order to open moonroof, then close moonroof (press button toward front side of vehicle) to close moonroof completely. Also, occasionally, when closing moonroof (from tilted position), moonroof does not close entirely, leaving an inch of the moonroof tilted (average 1 out of 5 times). *jb

The consumer stated the replacement transmission is now slipping, however the dealer could not duplicate the problem. The engine light illuminated and once again it was determined to be the transmission, even though the dealer claimed they could not duplicate the problem. The transmission was replaced for the second time. On june 2, 2005 the transmission began slipping in and out of gear again and the consumer noticed white smoke emitting from the tail pipe, moments later the vehicle was on fire. After inspecting the vehicle, it was determined there was a transmission fluid leak from a line which led from the transmission to the lower part of the radiator and was used as a cooler line. *jb

The third time i tried to get out of the mess and put the car in reverse and again it went back ward charging towards the gas pumps area with strong engine high performance noise. Srs light stayed on continuously while car was in motion. The dealer replaced the seat backs, since they claimed that the side air bags were the problem. The light has not come on since the repair. Also, the steering wheel air bag cover did not properly fit. This unit was also replaced. This repair also appears to be acceptable. As for the windshield, it is leaking water into the interior. The dealer already made two attempts to fix this problem. The first attempt included resealing the windshield, and the second attempt was an adjustment to the moonroof. They claimed that both of these fixes would work, but i'm still finding water leaking into the interior. The leak has remained at the same location, about 4-6 inches left of center.*ak
