  • Recall 2018724 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

  • Recall 2018217 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles equipped with the active curve system (acs), the oil in the acs’s reservoir could start foaming under certain dynamic driving situations in combination with an oil level below minimum. The oil foam could leak out of the oil reservoir through the vent holes in the sealing cap and spray onto hot surface components of the exhaust system. This could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the acs reservoir for proper oil level and replace the sealing cap with an updated part.

  • Recall 2017501 [Canada]: Structure
Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 208 - occupant protection in frontal impacts and cmvss 115 - vehicle identification number (vin). Excess bulkhead insulation material may have been used during manufacturing, and as a result, could extend into the lower area of the windshield. This excess insulation could cover the vin label, and potentially affect bonding of the windshield. If the windshield bonding is affected on the passenger side, in the event of a crash (where passenger frontal airbag deployment is warranted), the airbag may not deploy as designed, which would fail to meet the requirements of the standard, and increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: dealers will inspect the bulkhead insulation for excess material and remove it as necessary. In the event of compromised windshield bonding, the bonding will be reworked.

  • Recall 2017395 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the engine control unit may be out of specification. This could result in the engine shutting down when applying the brakes just before stopping the vehicle, and/or with a high engine load combined with an insufficient accelerator pedal actuation following an eco start. Depending on traffic conditions, an unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will update the engine and transmission control unit software.

  • Recall 2017207 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles, the electric power steering connector may not be properly sealed against water entry. This could allow moisture to enter the power steering control unit which could interrupt the signal and cause the electric steering assist to deactivate. A loss of power steering assist could unexpectedly increase steering effort which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction dealers will replace the connector and, if necessary, replace the steering rack.

  • Recall 2017060 [Canada]: Structure
Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standards (cmvss) 208 - occupant protection in frontal impacts and cmvss 212 - windshield mounting. The bonding of the windshield might not meet specifications of the 212 standard. This could result in the possibility of the windshield separating in the event of a crash, and in the case of a head-on collision warranting deployment of the passenger frontal airbag, the windshield might not be able to support the airbag as intended, affecting compliance to the 208 standard and increasing the risk of injury to the front passenger seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the windshield.

  • Recall 2017059 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles, the connections between the upper control arms and the axle stubs may not have been tightened properly during assembly. This could affect steering and directional control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will check the bolt torque connections between the upper control arms and axle stubs and replace the upper control arms if necessary.

  • Recall 2016618 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain vehicles, the calibration of the front passenger seat occupant classification system (ocs) may not detect a small statured seat occupant if the occupant is sitting on the edge of the seat and remains stationary for a long period of time. As a result, the passenger frontal airbag may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will update the software of the occupant classification system.

  • Recall 2016512 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the engine control unit software may be incorrect. This would result in reduced engine performance of 300kw (600nm) instead of the specified 320kw (700nm) listed within vehicle certification documents. Correction: dealers will replace the engine control unit.

  • Recall 2016510 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. The low-beam headlamps may not have been adjusted according to specification, which may deviate from the tolerance range required by the standard. This could reduce vehicle visibility, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will check the setting of the headlamps and correct them as necessary.

  • Recall 2016300 [Canada]: Engine
On certain amg model vehicles, there could be an issue within the software of the engine control unit (ecu) which could cause an engine shut-down just before a vehicle stop. If this were to occur, the driver might mistakenly interpret the engine shut-down as a planned shut-down as part of the eco start/stop system. However, the engine will not restart automatically after releasing the brake pedal, and would needed to be restarted manually. Depending on traffic conditions and the driver’s reactions, an unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will update the ecu software.

  • Recall 2021170 [Canada]: Structure
Issue: on certain vehicles, the plastic panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof may not have been attached correctly during a prior service repair. Over time, the panel could loosen and separate from the vehicle. Safety risk: a panel that detaches from a moving vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: mercedes-benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front roof panel.

  • Recall 2016403 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain vehicles, if subjected to low temperatures of -20° c or colder, the rear head restraints may not remain locked in the upright position. In the event of a crash at low temperatures, this could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the rear head restraints.

  • Recall 2015506 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, the rear drive shaft bolts may not have been tightened to specification and could loosen, which could, overtime, cause the drive shaft to separate from the transmission. This could cause a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts as necessary.
