  • Recall 2018166 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, the passenger frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the passenger airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the passenger side frontal airbag inflator with a new, non-ammonium-nitrate-based inflator. Note: this campaign supersedes recall 2015-236 and involves vehicles that previously received an inflator under that recall.

  • Recall 2017444 [Canada]: Airbag
Note: this campaign supersedes recall 2015-236 and involves vehicles that previously did not receive an inflator under that recall.

  • Recall 2016317 [Canada]: Structure
On certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front crossmember assembly, which may ultimately lead to separation of the control arm at the mounting point. This would allow the wheel to rotate off its designed axis, and could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the crossmember and apply an anti-corrosion treatment or replace the assembly, as required.

  • Recall 2015236 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles, the passenger frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the passenger airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace front passenger airbag inflators. Note: this recall has been superseded. For unrepaired vehicles, see recall 2017444 for more information. Known Recall Investigations
  • Air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20150224

The office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe14-016 in june 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers. All six vehicles were operated in florida or puerto rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of pe14-016, odi determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at odis insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation. The regions recalled initially included florida, puerto rico, hawaii, and the u.S. Virgin islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to takata for testing.Takatas initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from florida.Accordingly odi requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the gulf states and other coastal areas.Takatas testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During pe14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during pe14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically california and north carolina.Accordingly, odi requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.Odis investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The five odi reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.Nhtsa.Dot.Gov/owners/searchnhtsaid under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492

Received notice of a recall on the pass. Side airbag. Called local dealer, out of business (greenville mitsubishi). Next closest dealer is 2 counties away (don herring mitsubishi plano), spoke to benny. Said it's a 5-hour repair and they are open on saturday, but will not perform the recall on saturday. Due to the distance involved, it's unreasonable to tow or drop off my vehicle, and like many, i don't have 8-9 hours to lose to fix mitsubishi's issue (drive and repair time, plus considering light north dallas traffic). I'm unable to provide the exorbitant time this dealer requires of me to physically be present for the repair, and i don't know who would be. Missing work, plus literal expenses for something i had no part in is wrong, as is the 50+ mile cab or uber fair that would be required to make the return trip during the repair. At that point, this becomes a bill, not a safety recall. And my wife is the only passenger in the front seat of the vehicle. Recall site sent me here to file a complaint if the dealer was unable to perform this recall in a timely manner. Need resolution on this matter that doesn't cost me more than the repair itself.

Water has made its way through the grommet in the driver side wheel well, down the harness, and rests in the connectors behind the kick panel under the dash. Wires/connectors have become corroded causing several problems, including: lights will not turn off, and neither will the engine after keys are removed and even after the battery is disconnected.

I received a safety recall notice by mail from mitsubishi motors sales of caribbean on june, i call to a dealership they told me that i have to wait my turn and to wait the inflator to be available, we are in august and still no notice, i call them today and they told me i have to wait my turn, i called to another dealership and they told me they are taking only one car daily and the list is longer. They are extremely slow, other manufacturers are more proactive, but this is taking to long to resolve the defect.

Good day, i recently got a safety recall letter from mitsubishi about a possible defect in my car's airbags that when deployed could cause metal fragments to impact my face and body and possibly cause death. The problem i'm having is, on the letter they stated that all the repairs would be at no-cost with no mention of aftermarket parts an extra fee i have to pay for. So i set up an appointment and when i got to the dealer they said i had to pay them a fee to remove my aftermarket alarm and stereo. I was baffled as to why i had to pay for something that wasn't even my fault. I talked to the manager of the dealership trying to be reasonable but they wouldn't waive the fee. I've called the mitsubishi hotline but to no avail, saying that i have to pay the fee for "uninstallation and reinstallation of aftermarket parts". I don't know where else to go to that's why i'm asking for your help. I strongly believe that i shouldn't have to pay for something that wasn't even my fault to begin with and it was my life on the line for who knows how long i've been driving with potentially defective and deadly airbags. I hope you understand my situation. Sincerely, jazper

While driving i had all 3 acd lights come on. Upon further investigating and a trip to the dealership i was told my acd pump was bad and i would need a new one. This is a common problem in these cars that still hasn't been fixed with the newer models. I was quoted 2400 dollars just for the pump, not including labor, and that doesn't guarantee that it won't happen again. *tr

The srs airbag light came on, the wipers won't stop running. The horn starts on itself. All is related to water entering in the inner fender, shorting electrical connections. This happens when it's rainy outside. This happens to every evolution owner that i know. I don't know if there is a risk with air bags not working caused by that, but that highly concerns me. If there is an accident, i would want to be sure that the airbags will deploy... Thanks for your assistance. *tr

This car feature anti-theft wheel covers installed by the dealer-distributor in pr which requires different type of locknut for the tire rim. #3- the car will be taken for service to an authorized repair shop and i will request replacement of all bolts with new safety nuts. *tr

My car was purchased on 11/23/05. One week after purchase, service manager informed me that my oil was really low and added a quart of oil. He advised me to check the oil level regularly. I noticed that i had to add a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so. I voiced my concern to the service manager when i had my first oil change and was told that "a quart of oil loss per 1,000 miles is normal". I checked my oil regularly to avoid any problems until one day, i found out about oil consumption tests. I told the service manager about it and he arranged to have it done on my next oil change. The first oil consumption test revealed abnormal results which prompted them to repair the problem. Another oil consumption test was done and it showed a more favorable result. I check the oil level regularly and still notice that i add a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I spoke to the service manager about it and was told that it was normal. I went to another dealer to have the oil consumption checked. The first oil consumption test revealed a quart of oil loss per 1000 miles and the second test revealed an abnormal result of a quart and a quarter oil loss per 1000 miles. I was then told by the service representative to contact mitsubishi corporate office to report the result. Now i'm asking for your assistance in solving this problem. Thank you. *tr

Consumer complaint regarding the need for mud flaps on 2005 mitsubishi evolution viii lancer. *ts the consumer stated without the mud flaps, the tires stick out 1.5 inches past wheel wells. The consumer stated when a right turn was made, or a speed bump was hit, a strange noise would emit from the vehicle and then a pop sound could be heard. Prior to the automobile accident on december 27, 2005 there was no problems with the vehicle. Was purchased in july of 2005 (demo car-used). The accident happen as follows, it was cold that night i was making a right turn going west into the middle lane. Unfortunately my car did not go straight but continue to turn. I crossed over far right lane, then the side walk into an utility poll. Could not control the steering wheel of the car. The wheel locked, could not turn the car at all. The car crashed into an utility poll imploding both air bags. My insurance company's adjuster deemed it a total loss non-repair. Not sure if there were any problems with this model of car at all, just wanted to report this incident with the dealership to informed them of what happen, so that it would be on their records, just in case another incident happen with this modeled car to someone else that was all, but they did not assist me. I wanted to see if there could be a investigation to look at the car to see what could have caused the wheel to lock and for me to not have control of the car. Just wanted this on file to let you know.*ak

I purchased a brand new 2005 mitsubishi lancer evolution, and two months later @ 1847 miles, the clutch went out. Mitsubishi refused to warranty repair the failure, so i started investigating their clutches. It turns out six local repair shops as well as 4 mitsubishi technicians advised me the clutches are weak/defective from the factory, and mitsubishi is aware of the problem on my model, but refuses to recall them or repair them. I also went on-line and found several web-site complaints about evolution clutches, including "www.Mitsubishisucks.Com" i contacted mitsubishi's consumer complaint dept, who generated file#[xxx] and i was never contacted again. They refuse to acknowledge their product failure! My vin# [xxx]. I ended up having to pay $606.80 to daytona mitsubishi or they would not give me my car back! They head service manager ron, told me "its a little car, with too much power, so mitsubishi had to design it in a way where something would have to break, and unfortunately its the clutch". With hundreds of existing complaints, i would respectfully request mitsubishi have to recall all lancer evolution clutches, and replace them with a unit that will not fail. *jb updated 07/17/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6)

No out of the ordinary events lead up to the failure. My vehicle, which is a daily driver car would once in a while "stumble" then throw a check engine light. After this i would go to my dealer or an autoshop and have the "pull the code" using a odb ii error scan tool. Everything it was the same "code" named P0300. This would happen infrequently (5-6 times a month) but eventually it became a occurrence almost by the minute. When the car "stumbles" there is no power to merge, turn or change lanes. My dealer has offered a recall - which is a computer "reflash" - but to no avail - the problem still persists. When i complain i am told there is nothing more they can do. Please help. *nm
