The seal on master cylinder can fail and leak brake fluid.

  On certain passenger and sport utility vehicles, over an extended period of time, the headlight switch may cease to function.

  On november 14, 2006 volvo submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning etm failures in model year (my) 1999 through 2001 volvo models (not including the s40 and v40), my 2002 s60 and v70 with naturally aspirated engines and my 2002 v70s.According to volvo, ¿a combination of throttle positioning sensor irregularities, a dirty throttle housing and/or inefficient software calibration may cause a warning lamp to light and the subsequent onset of limp home modes."volvo further stated that,"this resulted in a high number of these vehicles going into limp home mode without need.¿volvo indicated that this was the most severe consequence of an etm fault in the subject vehicles.The recall remedy is a software upgrade introduced by volvo on march 16, 2006 in a customer satisfaction program.At the time of the notification 161,202 vehicles of the population of 331,301 had already had the software uploaded and were therefore not included in the population count of the recall. Odi¿s analysis of complaints to odi and volvo, volvo field reports and warranty data found that etm failure could result in (1) engine stall; (2) mechanical limp mode; (3) lunging forward during low-speed driving maneuvers; and (4) faltering during high speed merges or when crossing traffic.Odi identified 12 crashes related to etm failure, with 6 caused by lunging incidents, 3 caused by stalling incidents, 2 caused by mechanical limp mode and 1 from the faltering condition.Odis analysis of complaint data and information obtained from consumer interviews identified 1,289 incidents with safety related consequences (389.1 per 100,000 vehicles), including 479 involving engine stall (144.6 per 100,000 vehicles) and 729 involving mechanical limp mode (220.0 per 100,000 vehicles).Odis analysis of warranty claim narrative text shows at least 14,965 warranty claims with codes indicating an etm fault resulting in vehicle operation in mechanical limp mode (4.5% of the subject vehicles). Volvo¿s recall addresses odi¿s safety concerns with etm failures.Odi will continue to monitor the subject vehicles to determine if additional action is required.This engineering analysis is closed.

• Headlight failure investigation # RQ04004

  On august 23, 1999, volvo notified nhtsa that it would conduct a safety recall (99v235) on certain 1997 model year (my) 850 vehicles and certain 1998 s/v/c 70 series vehicles for failure of the headlight switch.The defect report stated in part: "operation of the headlight switch, over an extended period of time, can result in inconsistent operation of the switch."volvos remedy for this recall was to replace the headlight switch.This recall query investigation was opened on june 8, 2004, based on 13 reports of headlight failure on 1998 and 1999 s/v/c 70 series vehicles that were not included in the earlier recall.By letter of october 18, 2004, volvo has notified the agency that it will now conduct a safety recall of an additional 97,000 my 1998 through 2000 s70/v70/v70xc and c70 vehicles built from june 5, 1997 through january 11, 2000. The vehicle was parked on a city street. I entered the vehicle, sat down in the driver side and attempted to pull the seat across my body. I would not move, i began tugging at it and releasing it. I broke the housing off of the seatbelt and i could see inside it was wrapped in a spiral.

The ets light came on intermittently. The car ended up stalling after being parked upon trying to restart it. Thia is am issue that only the volvo dealership can fix since it involves reprogramming or replacing and programming a new ets module. Fortunately it happened to me in a parking lot and i was able to get it rowed to a shop twice. Now it is going to the dealer.

Ignition coil is misfiring, and park neutral position switch also known as the transmission position switch or neutral safety switch is having issues. When its idling its really rough while driving the car jolts an hiccups. Doesn't know what gear it's going into

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 volvo s70. The contact stated that the driver's seat belt was completely locked in the retracted position and did not give any slack to secure the driver in the seat. The contact stated that the cylinder would not release the tension to pull it across the contact's body. The contact emailed the manufacturer and was referred to the dealer. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 141,700.

Tl* the contact owned a 2000 volvo s70. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle was involved in a side impact collision that resulted in a rollover. The air bags did not deploy. There was one injury that required medical attention. The contact suffered from internal organ damage and severe pain. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

I was driving my car on the highway and as soon as i reached 60 mph my ets light came on along with my brake light and oil light. My speedometer went to zero and my car was acting strange. I pulled over and stopped and heard a loud noise from the engine. I turned off my car. I called aaa and asked for a tow. While the tow truck was coming, i tried turning my car on again and the ets light came on flashing and the car wouldn't start. I started to google this problem and saw many people had the ets on their volvo recalled. I called volvo and they declined to help me. They said i need to pay for a new ets module. They said my car doesn't have a recall on it. I found this to be not true after checking your website for recalls along with another .Gov website. I called volvo again and the same guy told me not to call them anymore and he hung up the phone. When my car was finally at home, i called my mechanic who used to work at a different volvo (30 miles from where i live) and he came to look at my car. We switched out the battery, put in a new starter, new alternator, switched out all my fuses with new fuses, changed spark plugs and spark wires, put new coils on and did an oil change. The car started, however the ets light has been on ever since and when i reach highway speeds, it does the same thing. I have not driven it since. The ets is recalled for my volvo when i entered the vin. I need help with getting volvo to fix the recall or do something about it. The state patrol did come behind me to ask if everything was okay as i was waiting for the tow truck. I don't have any police reports but i do have the officers card if needed.
