Due to a machining irregularity, the bolt/washer surface on the positive battery terminal cable end may allow for a gap to occur in the contact area of the terminal. This can result in a voltage drop that may cause difficulty starting the vehicle and could cause damage to the engine control module.

I went on a road trip that was 240 miles each way. We were about half way when you began to have problems. I realized the car was having problems at that half way point because it was jerking ,clanking, stalking check engine light. My car could only go 60mph on the way home on i-15. People were flashing their lights and riding my ass. I eventually had to get off the nearest exit, in payson utah, just make sure i would be okay. Normally my car gets about 36mpg on the freeway but it was getting about 20mpg on the way home. Initially i took it to a local service mechanic shop and they changed the fluid charged me $286.00 and they recommended a transmission shop to look at the vehicle. The transmission shop mechanic diagnosed bad internal parts in the transmission. With estimated repairs of $3500.00. The car currently has been 120,140 miles. It broke down 04/18/2021

Having issue while driving. Abs brake system light comes on and car jerks violently. Have to stop and turn off car and all lights. Push the abs light button and start car again to repeat. Happens several times a day. Car has stopped twice on its on when this has occurred. Was driving from out of town on back roads and had to stop about every 10 minutes to stop and turn off car. Notice it was worse than before. Difference in roads from home. Roads i was on were several winding road. Did not got better even if i drove slowly.

Find nissan has posted a bulletin on this.Followed all guidelines. He cleaned the maf sensor. Light went off. Next, day light comes back on. Go back, have sensor replaced. Light comes back on. Checks for vacuum leaks, change air filter blow out air box and surrounding components. Light still on. Take car for a diagnosis every few months to ensure its still the same thing and nothing else. No problem with cars drivability. Fast forward to 2019, vdc/ abs lights come on. Call nissan, tell me they cant help because my car was out of warranty. Nisan has posted bulletin for this issue follow all guidelines for repairs via their bulletin, all the way down to the $700 wheel speed sensor. Lights go off. But that started a new issue. My vdc/abs lights will spontaneously come on causing my car to jerk violently at speeds between 20-30mph (or 2,500 rpm) causing me to stop dead in traffic, park the car, take the key out (it must be out!), wait a few seconds, turn it back on. Fast forward to this week (3/2/20) my car stalls out going 70 mph down the highway between to semis. Everything just shuts down. I literally almost died. Call nissan and they tell me, my car isn't part of the recall, outside of the warranty, nothing we can do. Go to nissan dealer. They want to charge $150 to diagnose. So i went elsewhere, got it diagnosed for free had maf cleaned, new air filter, codes reset. Light goes off. Driving home, car stalls again at 70 mph. No lights on dash. Have codes read immediately, no codes. Nothing. Wake up, drive to school, service engine light comes on, immediately stalls on highway. Immediately have does read: three P0101 codes in row. I literally fear for my life and have no other choice.

My husband checked the battery right away, it was a little bit loose and he adjusted it. The car wanted to start but never did completely. The tow guy said it looked like the key was deprogrammed so we were hoping it was just that. So we towed the car to nissan dealership and found out it was the engine control module. It costed more than $2,000 dollars to get if fixed. Searching online i found out that nissan sentra's 2010-2011 have a recall on this issue. Hello, my daughter was involved in a motor vehicle accident in which the driver side airbag deployed. She developed some deep cuts on her head and i believe a fracture. I am concerned that her car might be part of the takata airbag recall because i believe that there were pieces of metal from the airbag that caused the deep cuts on her head. Please investigate this. The vehicle stalls after running for a few minutes at fir now stalls when stopped at red light and while making a turn and while driving.

I was driving my nissan sentra 2011 with an approx speed of 35 mph and then suddenly heard some noise from the bonnet. I pulled over and turned off the car but still able to hear sound coming from the abs module. I took it to mechanic and he suggested to check for the recall as light for vdc,abs & brake turned on. I checked with nissan customer care and they said they dont have any information with my vin# for any recall. I am surprised to see this as the car didnt meet any accident when all this happen. Nissan authorised center did diagnostic after charging $244 just to come out that abs actuator(47660-9aa1a) need to be replaced which will further cost me about $1900. I have no idea how to cover up this cost as this seems to be completely a manufacturing defect and need to be taken care under a campaign.

On sunday, sept 22 2019 at around 1:40pm we were headed home from an vacation at a cabin rental property in sevierville, tn. Not even quarter mile from our cabin on a straight and down hill road all of a sudden the brakes stopped functioning. I applied brakes multiple times but the car didn't stop and in order to avoid a small pond on the right hand side and the car in front i had to divert my car on the shoulder of the road. As i hit shoulder of the road the front passenger wheel busted and the car eventually stopped further at the up hill. I don't know if the brakes failed and/or the abs and/or the onboard computer malfunctioned. I did see abs and vdc lights sign coming on the dashboard for at least 2 hours before disappearing on its own. Also since then the tire pressure sign has never gone off. The tire pressure signs blinks for a little while every time start the car and then gets steady. This seems to be an safety concern to me as i still can't understand how would the car do nothing even after applying the brakes so many times. With an 2011 model and only 56000 miles on it i would never expect something like this to happen. So scared to drive the car now as we have an two year old who was in the car at the time of the incident & my wife got an minor injury to her left elbow. I reported the incident to nissan by calling 800-647-7261 on sept 24 2019 and haven't heard anything back from them since than.

All ignition coils and spark plugs are failing after 2 months of being replaced. $700 was paid back on may 20, 2019 to replace all coils and spark plugs. Engine misfired again the other day and same issue diagnosed with coil/plug failure! There is an underlying issue that nissan needs to have addressed within engine as something is causing the coils to continually misfire! My car was driving straight the other day on sunday when the vehicle started to buck wildly and check engine light flashing on.

Fan is running inside car blowing out hot air despite the dial being turned to off. Now while the car was being driven, there's a strong burning smell emitting from the inside of car. When the fan turned on for absolutely no reason, i was driving it on the highway. The car was in motion again today when the burning smell started as well. Now when i go to turn car on, it is having issues starting.

On june 18 2019 i was driving 55 mph on the belt line in madison, wi. With my newborn daughter. When all of a sudden the car started lurching, i had no control. In heavy traffic i was afraid of causing in accident. The brakes were hard and if i pushed on the gas it started lurching out of control. I was finally able to pullover and noticed the voc light was on. I pushed the voc button to turn it off. But it wouldn't turn off. I called my father larry. He told me to turn off the car wait a minute. Turn it back on. To see if the voc would reset. It did reset. The problem continues i taken my car into different locations for inspection. I see a lot of people have the same problem on this website. However my car does not fall into the recall. Why? It affects steering (lack of) brakes (non existent) gas (causes lurching). Very dangerous for me & my newborn. Not to mention those around me. My car has 115,000 miles.

Check engine light is on, when i accelerated on the gas it the car started to jerk and it wouldn't let me get past 40 mph. After i stopped at a stop sign, the car would not move faster than 20 mph before it started jerking. I called a mcclarty nissan dealership in north little rock and they told me that the recall listed on this website did not affect my car even though your website does when i look it up by the vin like they did.

The dashboard light flickered for awhile and now does not light up at all. I am unable to see the gas gauge, mileage or temperature. The doors no longer unlock when i turn off the ignition nor does the beeper sound that my headlights are still on when the ignition is turned off. I have been to the nissan dealer twice with this and they were not be able to locate the problem. They did find a paper that described this situation as a problem on the 2011 nissan sentra.

This car is stalling very bad it happens every now an then but it feels like is going to die it happens when driving an also when park. When driving it dies an that's dangerous it can cause accidents

It is ridiculous that so many people with the same car have had the same exact problem and no investigation or action has been done by the nhtsa yet. As others have complained before, i have had moments where my car would have the vdc light go off and the car would begin to not accelerate over 2,000 rpms and would shake the car in a violent manner. I have had error codes P0101 and P0725 come up and dissapear through a period of six months. I have had to install a new oem mass air flow sensor to try to fix P0101 and it has returned on and off. The car has been acting much weaker than before and would have lots of hesitation whenever you would give it any gas. I have tried to search online to fix this but have come up with no definite answer. I just want my car to be reliable and that is what i expected when this car was purchased yet for it to start failing before the 100k mark, it shows how defective nissan products are. I have put a thousand dollars trying to fix it only to find out nothing has changed.A recall needs to be done to fix this. Guaranteed last time i will buy a nissan for sure.

Driving down off ramp and car just suddenly shut off and would not start.

I'm driving normal on the road with no condensation on roadway, when all of a sudden the "vdc off" indicator light is illuminated and the car looses speed and jerks. I pull off to the side of road. Turn car completely off. Wait a few minutes to turn car back on. Car may operate normally for a few minutes and then again the "vdc off" light is back along with the jerking. I can be either on the highway (which is extremely dangerous) or driving on the city streets. When i am stopped at a stop light, stop sign or even backing out my driveway i am having issues with the "vdc off". When i am stationary after turning my car off and back on again, sometime it is still on and thecrpm is revving up and down. My foot is neither on the brake or the gas pedal. This last time 3/11/2019. It has been doing this off and on starting since january 2019.

I had the same problems when it was only 20k miles { 2 years with warranty}. They didn't fix the problem and i was not happy. On 3rd year (before 3 years or 36 months expiration date), i sent it to nissan dealership to inspect and they could not find any issue (no action or anything been fixed). It keep happening and i had to send it back again to recheck when it was 50k. And now it's 80k miles and the car is not safe to drive. I keep calling nissan dealership and asking for advices. They can not help me or fix it. I was almost got hit few times when i drove this nissan

Car has 75,000 miles. Just had it serviced. The brake lights come on, then next start, they are off. The car stalls on every turn and steering freezes.

"takata recall" steering wheel will not lock and is stopping the car from starting. Went out to start the car at the store and the steering wheel was not locked and the key would not turn to start the car. Had to have it towed.

We put our vin into the recall database and it did not come back as being one of the cars affected. However, we have experienced what is described in the recall: engine stalling and having to be turned off and restarted; no power to engine when stepping on gas while in drive. It has been okay on the highway, but will often cut out when driving in city, especially when starting back from a start or rolling start. Happens occasionally with no predictability other than has never happened on the highway.

Cvt transmission whines and appears to be slipping when going uphill - the rpms increase but the car is not going faster. There seems to be an ongoing issue with nissan cvt transmissions. They extended the warranty to 10 years/120k miles for 2004-2010 cvts. Unfortunately, mine is a 2011.

During a trip from wis. To florida my son's used 2011 with approx. 110.000 miles developed a whining noise that fluctuated as the car accelerated and decelerated. Car also seems to lose power.

Takata recall i was driving my car and came to a stop sign and the whole car shut off, while i was in drive. My battery was corroded and so we thought that was the issue and changed the battery and the problem worsended up until yesterday while i was riding to work, i arrived at a stop light and before the light even turned red the whole car shut off and locked up. The battery is new, oil had been changed hat same day as the air filter and the mass airflow sensor were changed. The mass airflow sensor was changed because that's what i was told was why my engine light was on. The very day the same issues occurred and the whole car stopped and did not start again. Prior to this, my car sat for a few days, like any car does on the weekend and i needed a jump the following sunday night and after changing the battery, the problems worsened and as i was driving, if i turned slightly or made a left or right turn, my skip control would come on and stay on and i drive routinely so i knew it was a new problem. When i put the car into park, the slip control would come on or in reverse, the slip control would come on or the whole car would shut off in that gear.

Advised vehicle computer registered over 82 instances of transmission overheating. When the issue occurs vehicle enters "limp" mode. Vehicle will not produce more than 2500 rpms. Recently occurred on interstate 40 in tn. Climbing large hill car would not maintain speed. Dealer advised there is nothing wrong with vehicle other than the design of transmission and advised by nissan to fix problem install a transmission cooler which costs $1,400.

"takata recall", car has days where it won't start due to problems with the ecm module. I bought the car like that and when it happened i thought it was the battery and we switched out the battery, however a month later it did the same thing. I noticed that there is a recall on the battery terminal that may effect the ecm on some modern vehicles, however when i took it to nissan they said based on my vin number my vehicle isn't affected. My car is doing exactly what the recall states, so i believe that my vin number needs to be included in the recall list.

Since an front end accident my airback didn't deploy and when my body shop reviewed the repair, stated my air bag module is broken so i didn't have working airbags to start.

There is transmission issue with this vehicle when driven in excess of 2 hours. It appears to overheat and will not drive in excess of 60 mph until it cools down. This is a known issue and i did open a case with nissan who refuses to cover the repair. Nissan case # 31337703. Nissan doubled the powertrain warranty on models 2003 - 2010 as a result of this issue but is refusing the stand behind this one which was presumably made in 2010. Problem first noticed a year ago and 2 mechanics could not duplicate the issue as it has to be driven a long time to heat up. It is only on long trips that this happens. Nissan requested we take it to a dealer for diagnosis and after 6 hours (and $150 charge) they said it had the incorrect transmission fluid. I am the original owner of the vehicle and never changed or authorized anyone to change it so that is a false statement. I was chastised for not visiting a dealer in 5 years... My response was if it is not broke why fix it? This vehicle is now used for primarily long road trips to school and it is frustrating that nissan knows there are thousands of reported issues with the cvt transmission but will not accept responsibility for this one. I have reached out to nissan and escalated my appeal as high as the executive specialist who would not consider standing behind their product. Sent a few e-mails to management (customer experience) which have gone ignored. Will be disputing the credit card charge for 'diagnosis' as that was a 6 hour wait for them to do nothing more then look at the fluid and accuse us of changing it to an unsupported fluid. Given the known design and reliability issues with this part i simply request nissan to cover the cost of replacement to which they refuse, causing a severe safety issue when this car is driven. In city driving it works without any issues.

At random times the vdc off indicator will turn on while driving. It can not be turned off and it is impossible for your car to go over 40 mph without constant jerking. You have to pull over, shut down and restart your car multiple times until the indicator doesn't come back on. Some times this is impossible and will never go away until car has been shut off for an hour or so. This can occur at any time when the car is in motion or even at a stop light, the indicator will come on and the jerking will begin. Very dangerous.

Nissan claims that their cvt transmission issues were fixed for the model year 2011 sentra but that is a lie. The transmission overheats and then the car goes into limp mode which is extremely dangerous in the highway because it looses almost all power. Nissan extended the warranty for model years 2006-2010 to 120,000 miles because they knew there were issues with the transmissions but they refuse to acknowledge the issues that still exist with the 2011 model. I live in florida which has a warm climate and the issue normally manifests itself after about an hour of driving in the highway. After careful research, it seems that people that live in mountainous area have the same issue. To make matters worse, when the issues with the transmission started around september 2015 while going on a 500 mile trip, we took the car to nissan of pompano beach upon our return and they told us we needed a new transmission. We didn't believe them at the time because we had just driven the car about 350 miles after the problem started and the transmission was still working. The issue seem to only manifest when the weather was really warm and the car was been driven for several miles. Therefore, we instructed them to change the transmission oil and went on our way wondering if that would fix the issue. Since then, the car has gone another 15k miles with the same transmission. Since we have been taking shorter trips with the car the issue had not manifested itself again until now so we took the car to nissan in miami and again they told us that the car needs a new transmission. Given all the problems they have been having with the cvt transmission, i believe nissan should either extend the warranty on 2011 models or at least make sure that dealerships try to install a transmission fluid cooler to see if the customers issue goes away.

I've been having issues with my vehicle. At times, the engine stalls and it cannot go above 15-20 mph, even while driving on the interstate. The steering wheel also locks up, as well. About a couple months after i purchased the car a service engine soon light started to turn on and off, so i took it to get checked at auto zone. They then told me that it was a sensor or spark plug. The light went off but then about a year later i was driving and a vdc off light along with a traction light came on while i was driving, causing the car to jerk so much that i have to pull over and shut it off for a few minutes. When i turn the car back on it gone. I started to search for similar issues to see if any other nissan like mine were having this problem, and found that this is a common issue . I checked to see if there was any recalls which there isn't but one of the recalls you have listed, has similar problems to which im having. It's now to the point when i put my car in reverse for some reason it shuts off or if i brake to much the issue worsens. Please help!

The vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly hesitates loses power and stalls. I have been told by two independent nissan repair shops that the ecm needs to be reprogrammed and updated to the newest version. Because other components that are tied in together is causing the check engine light to come on. AP0101 diagnostic code states that the maf sensor is bad. The maf sensor has been replaced, the gas tank cap has been replaced with an oem, etc. I believe that the ecm is not communicating correctly with the maf sensor signal and is what is causing the engine to stall unexpectedly. This has happened three time and i can have an accident due to the engine sttalling without any warning. I can be severely rear ended in the freeway.

2011 nissan sentra with 80,000 miles and the cvt transmission is making a high pitch noise when accelerating. It increases in rpm but doesn't increase power. Nissan is aware of the issue with these transmissions but refuse to do anything about it if the car is out of warranty. While driving to work headed towards the altamont pass on highway 580 west.Just past grant line rd at 6:15 a.M. On 03/17/2015, my car started to hesitate, then immediately lost all power with no prior warning to be able to pull over. I was stranded in the second lane over from the fast lane. In 2007, nissan recalled more than 140,000 altimas due to the possibility of fire related to the cars air filter. There was substantial media coverage of the large recall. We own a 2011 nissan sentra, which we purchased for our teenage daughter. According to courtesy nissan in richardson, texas, the cause of a recent vehicle break down with our sentra was an air filter fire, which also caused fire damage to the airbox. This is the same defect which resulted in nissan's 2007 recall. (i have photos of the fire-damaged air filter and airbox, as well as the fire-damaged parts.) this is obviously a serious and unresolved safety issue, one that nissan publicly acknowledged and proactively addressed with the 2007 recall. Nissan corporate consumer affairs department has denied that the issue with the 2007 altimas is the same issue with our 2011 sentra, even though the nissan dealership stated clearly to us in writing that the airbox/air filter caught on fire. The air filter in a two-year-old car shouldn't catch on fire. And it certainly shouldn't catch on fire if air filter fires in nissans were significant enough to result in a major recall of nissan vehicles in 2007. *tr

My son was driving my car nissan sentra 2011 on 405 freeway in the carpool lane at about 65mph. The engine cut off. He told me that he tried to get over while the car was still coasting but the vehicle completely stopped in one of the lanes. He put on the emergency flashers and called home. He told us that the car had cut off and wouldn't start back up. He said that other cars were just flying by at fast speed. He was told that the chp would take care of it. When my husband and i arrived at the location where my son,his friends and the driver of the car that hit him were waiting, we notice a police car. The policeman said he just saw them there and came over. When chp finally came over to where we were waiting, the chp officers explained to us that the vehicle was hit a second time and that two people were carried in an ambulance to the hospital. The vehicle was put on a tow truck and brought over to where we were all waiting. The rear of the car was totally smashed. There was no longer a back seat or trunk. When my son saw the car he was glad that they had gotten out of the car because one of his friends would have gotten smashed up if they had stayed in the car. Brand new car under 4k miles on it i was driving between 60-65mph on the busy i95n of fort lauderdale miami cars speeding up to 70mph with my family on a vacation then all of sudden the service light pop up and after that the car lost its power so i coasted on the side of the road really scary. When the vehicle is warmed up (after about 20 minutes of driving) and the gas pedal is pressed genteelly, it experiences severe rocking back and forth motion during the driving. It unexpectedly accelerates and then unexpectedly decelerates, occasionally to almost complete stop, repeatedly. The tachometer reading will suddenly jump to above 3000 rpm and swiftly jump back down below 1000 --' all within 2-3 seconds. Then it returns to normal range at 1000 -1600 rpm depends on amount of gas pedal applied. The car accelerates and decelerates in sync with the rpm changes. When the car is decelerating, the car makes squeaking noise and it feels like the brakes are applied to the maximum. If the gas pedal is continuously pressed at the same level, above symptoms repeat at uneven intervals, frequently in between every 5-10 seconds. If the gas pedal is pressed more, the above symptoms get worse with larger range of rpm changes, louder noise, and more severe jerking. When the vehicle is stopped with the engine on, it is hard to start moving and accelerate -- lack of power and the rpm suddenly jumping up and down. According to the dealer, a coil inside the transmission is at fault and the connection between the engine and the transmission was assembled wrongly.

Actually less than a year from purchasing the vehicle, a ticking started in the engine even after routine oil changes. Before it hit 50000 miles, when starting the car it would hesitate and when it was checked out a cell in the battery burned out and it was a little over a year old. When i looked up recalls there was something concerning the battery and when i contacted the dealership they stated since it was just over the 50000 mark it wasn't covered. The car would not go faster than 40 mph, with the gas pedal to the floor, and the rpms would not go past 2. After every stop the car took 2 minutes to get back up to 40 mph. I have the intelligent key system with this car. I was told when i purchased this car that in order to start the car, my foot must be on the brake. You can put the car in auxiliary mode with the foot off the brake but in order to start the car the foot must be on the brake. I discovered that i was able to start my car with my foot off the brake. I took the car in for service to dealer that i purchased the car from. I was subsequently told that with my model car i could start the car with my foot off the brake. I called nissan since i was getting conflicting information and they informed me that in fact i should not be able to start my car in this manner. They created a file regarding this problem, file #7139963, then i was told that i should take my car in to another dealer and have them look at this problem. I'm not sure if other sentra owners are having this problem also or whether or not this could become a safety issue (which i would think it could be, especially if a young child was somehow able to start the car and put it in gear) but i figured this should be on record since all nissan suggested was that i take it to another dealer.

When the car reached 15-20 mph (the doors lock) a rattling, clunking noise occurs in the rear of the car. This happens every time the car is started and that speed is reached. I was told from the dealership this is normal. *tr

On february 2, 2011, i was traveling at approximately 20-25 mph. As i approached a red light i attempted to depress my brakes. There was a loud metallic clanking and grinding sound and a very strong vibration coming from under brake pedal. I almost lost control of my vehicle as it pulled to the left and almost traveled into the oncoming lane. After 2-3 seconds i regained the use of my brakes. *ln

On monday, january 17, between 7:00pm and 7:15pm, i as well as a passenger that was with me that evening were involved in a collision with a semi due to a failure of our 2011 nissan sentra. We don't really know if it was either the brakes or the abs system or the onboard computer. As we were on beltline rd., heading towards addison, tx for a dinner party at a local restaurant, we came to an intersection and attempted to come to a halt, but, when doing so the car came to a slow steady speed and continued to move forward, less than 5mph but more than 2mph. I pressed the brake a total of 5 times, two of which i slammed the break until it reached the floorboard, until i was forced to use the e break. I tried putting the car in park as well but nothing seemed to work. Prior to leaving for the restaurant, we heard an internal knocking sound. We didn't have it checked out immediately due to the fact that it was a holiday and many places were already closed. We also didn't think it was a danger to us simply because it was the first time it had ever occurred. We do not feel safe operating this vehicle, and we want to get the word out there that this car could be dangerous. We had the vehicle towed to the trophy nissan in mesquite, tx and were given a rental. We prefer the rental. It will be a month until we get our car back, and frankly, they can keep it. This is 2013 and my car still has this problem unresolved. This is an intermittent problem which has happened 4 times when the car is almost undriveable. Driving along on snowy roads (have noticed less significant issues other times such as going into 1st gear on its own twice and some small pulses here and there ) when the car will have a pulse or catch like you have quickly stepped on the brakes but no brake lights go on. The rpms increase from 1500 to 3000 and then the car stops briefly. Lower speed and still happens. Leaving from a stop is when it gets really scary. Any amount of gas pedal will cause the car to come to almost a complete stop with no brake lights. Almost rear ended a couple times. It keeps stopping you when you try to ever so gently give it some gas and eventually you can get it going. This behavior will continue until it wants to stop it. Turning car on and off sometimes help and sometimes doesn't. The second time this happened last 3 trips to work. Taken to dealer several times and no diagnostic codes have been recorded. First time adjusted sensor for vdc - must not have been adjusted from factory. Second time - no codes - say they adjusted some other sensors. Third and fourth times - if no diagnostic codes can't do anything. Contacted nissan and waiting for a solution. *tr
