Pull vehicle onto hoist and raise unit to a comfortable working height. Fig. 1 2. Inspect fuel hose connected to the generator fuel pump. If excess loops in the hose exist (Figure 1), the fuel line will need to be removed from the pump and shortened to correct length. 22-083_SRP 4K & 5.5K Generator February 2023 Page 1 of 3 3. Shortening the Fuel Hose: A. Locate the fuel hose on the rearward side of the generator and clamp the hose to minimize fuel loss. B. Using 5/16” socket or Phillips Screwdriver loosen the hose clamp (Figure 2) and remove the hose (Figure 3). i. CAUTION: There will be some fuel loss after hose removal. C. Remove any zip ties currently securing the fuel hose. Fig. 3 Fig. 2 Fig. 4 D. Re-route the fuel hose between the rear of the generator and the mounting bracket. (Figure 4) E. On the forward side of the generator, route the hose to the pump and cut off the excess hose. F. From the rearward side of the generator, pull the hose back through to have full access. 4. Installing the Hook & Loop Heat Shield Sleeve A. With a deep well 3/8” Socket, remove the p-clamp nuts to gain full access to the fuel hose back to the rear axle. Cut any zip ties which may be installed. B. Starting at the hose previously cut, start wrapping the fuel hose. (Figure 5) Fig. 5 C. With a 10-foot section of the heat shield sleeve installed, route the hose back to the generator fuel pump - between the generator and the mounting bracket. (Figure 6 and 7) D. Install the fuel hose to the fuel pump and re-secure with the hose clamp. (Figure 8) Fig. 6 Fig. 7 Fig. 8 Torque = 25-38 LBF-IN 22-083_SRP 4K & 5.5K Generator February 2023 Page 2 of 3 E. Pull the heat shield sleeve down over the hose clamp connection to the fuel filter. Add a small zip tie to pull the hook and loop heat shield sleeve closed. F. With 2-3 inches of overlap, install a second 10-foot section of the heat shield sleeve. This should continue to the rear axle. G. Cut off the excess hook and loop heat shield. H. Add zip ties at the end of the heat shield sleeve near the rear axle and where the two pieces overlap to pull the hook and loop heat shield sleeve closed. I. Re-insert the fuel hose and harnesses back into Fig. 9 the p-clamps. Using a 3/8” socket, re-secure the clamps. Utilize tie strap in between pclamps for additional securement, as-needed. (Figure 9) J. Start at the generator fuel pump filter. Add a second layer of hook and loop heat shield over the previously installed and add additional zip ties. i. NOTE: this section should start at the fuel filter and end as far back as the excess will allow. 5. For units with 5.5K Generator installed: Install foam gasket to the end of the generator to assist with minimizing heat. A. Clean the generator surface and bracket with rubbing alcohol (Figure 10) B. Prepare the foam gasket by cutting it to fit the electrical and fuel connections. C. Apply the gasket and cover the exposed connections. (Figure 11) 6. Lower the unit.
