  • Recall 2016094 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles outfitted with the optional accessory cold weather pcv heater kit, the pipe heater wiring may chafe on a metal clamp. This could result in the pcv pipe heater wiring to interact with the clamp, which could lead to an electrical short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the pcv pipe heater with an improved component.

  • Recall 2015597 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicles, the fuel return hose could deteriorate when subjected to various chemicals and lubricants, such as those used when cleaning the vehicle or used in certain rear body applications. If the fuel return hose were to deteriorate, it could swell and come off. This would result in a fuel leak, which in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Correction: dealers will inspect the fuel return hose. If a defective hose is found installed, it will be replaced with an improved hose.

  • Recall 2015357 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, steel brake pad shims may corrode and swell upon exposure to road de-icing chemicals and/or road salt. This could result in extended brake pedal travel when applying the brakes, potentially affecting stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace steel brake pad shims with stainless steel ones.

  • Recall 2014438 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, the transmission oil cooler hose may have been manufactured incorrectly and may burst, causing an automatic transmission fluid (atf) leak. As a result, the transmission could become inoperative, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the hose, and if necessary, replace it.

  • Recall 2014037 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, debris may have contaminated the transmission fluid at time of assembly. This could result in abnormal noise when shifting, flaring between gears, inability to shift and/or engine stalling. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect transmission operation, flush the transmission fluid and/or repair/replace the transmission, as necessary.

  • Recall 2012374 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the parking brake cable lock nut may have been improperly tightened during vehicle assembly and could loosen over time, allowing the parking brake lever stroke length to increase gradually. If left unchecked, the parking brake stroke could increase until the parking brake no longer fully applies. This could allow the vehicle to roll away causing a risk or property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the lock nut and tighten if necessary.

  • Recall 2012362 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicles, the fuel filter head may have been manufactured incorrectly. This could allow a fuel tube to disconnect from the filter head, which would cause a leak. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel filter head.

  • Recall 2012293 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain trucks, the low pressure fuel return line (between the #4 fuel injector and the fuel supply pump) may have been installed incorrectly during vehicle assembly. This could allow the hose to disconnect from the inline check valve/filter (part of the return line assembly), which would cause a fuel leak. Diesel fuel leakage may ignite on a hot engine surface and cause a fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will reroute the low pressure fuel return line.

  • Recall 2012057 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain trucks, an incorrect passenger side seatbelt buckle may have been installed inadvertently during vehicle assembly. As a result, the seatbelt buckle may not remain latched during a vehicle crash. Failure of the seatbelt to restrain the seat occupant as intended would increase the risk of personal injury during a crash. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the seatbelt buckle assembly.

Known Recall Investigations
  • extended stopping distance investigation as of 20150323

On march 23rd 2015 the office of defects investigation (odi) opened preliminary evaluation (pe) pe15-009 based on early warning report (ewr) data received from mitsubishi describing brake failures on model year (my) 2012 -2013 mitsubishi fuso fec 52, fec72 and fec92 trucks.Following the receipt of recall 15v-504 that addresses the concerns raised in this investigation, odi is closing this pe.In november 2013, mitsubishi released a technical service bulletin (tsb 13-004) where they describe replacing original equipment (oe) brake pad shims with stainless steel shims due to corrosion. This service bulletin was referenced as the remedy in many of the ewr/field reports received by odi that described extended stopping distances. On july 9th mitsubishi responded to odis information request (ir) letter and identified 9 field reports, 26 warranty claims and 1 consumer complaint that resulted in a crash and injuring two consumers. An odi investigator conducted interviews and analyzed field reports that supported concerns of drivers alleging a spongy brake pedal and difficulty stopping the vehicle while driving. Some reports describe the brake pedal going to the floor when depressed.Mitsubishi indicated that on certain affected vehicles, the original equipped brake pad shims are comprised of a material that rusts/corrodes when subjected to snow/ice melting chemicals applied to roadways.Normal operation in this condition may cause the shims to swell, resulting in increased brake pedal stroke that could result in increased stopping distances, causing a crash without warning. In their ir response, mitsubishi states that even with the increased pedal stroke, the brake performance still meets safety standards and so the corroding brake shims are not a safety issue. As a result of odi analysis and further discussions with the manufacturer outlining the risk to safety extended stopping distance represents, mistsubishi decided to conduct a safety recall.Odi is closing this pe with mitsubishis voluntary safety recall 15v-504.Mitsubishi expanded the scope to of the recall beyond the scope of this investigation to include my 2014 fuso fec 52, fec72 and fec92 trucks. With the recall action taken by mitsubishi, this investigation is closed as further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exists on other model or my vehicles outside of the recall scope. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
