Prevost X3-45 2020

• Recall 260258 [USA]: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.
  Prevost car (us) inc. (prevost) is recalling certain 2014 and 2018 h3-41, 2013-2024 h3-45, 2012-2024 x3-45, and 2017-2023 x3-45 commuter vehicles. The red beacon lighting on the threshold warning system (tws) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 403, "platform lift systems."
  prevost will replace the red beacons, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed february 6, 2024. A second notice will be mailed once the remedy is available.   Prevost car (us) inc. (prevost) is recalling certain 2020-2022 x3-45 commuter vehicles. The right-side rearview mirror is positioned incorrectly, obstructing the view of the right side of the vehicle and the adjacent lane.

  Prevost car (us) inc. (prevost) is recalling certain 2010-2023 h3-45, h3-45 vip, x3-45, x3-45 com, and x3-45 vip vehicles. In the event of the alternator front bearing seizing, the alternator belt may continue to operate, causing the bearing to overheat.

• Recall 147758 [USA]: During night time vehicle operation, highest level of dash brightness may reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Prevost cars, inc. (prevost) is recalling certain 2020 x3-45 vip, x3-45 vip entertainer, x3-45 passenger, h3-45 vip, and h3-45 passenger coaches. Due to a missing component, the driver may not be able to adjust the brightness of the dash illumination for the controls and indicators, allowing only the highest level of brightness. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 101, "controls and displays."
  prevost will notify owners, and dealers will install the missing potentiometer component and required wiring to adjust the brightness of the dash's illumination, free of charge.   Issue: on a small number of buses, the front ceiling panel could become loose and fall inside the bus. This could cause a possible distraction for the driver. Safety risk: a ceiling panel that falls could distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: prevost will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their bus to a prevost service center to secure the front ceiling panel with new hardware.

  Issue: on certain buses, the brightness of the lights for the dashboard controls and indicators cannot be adjusted. Canadian regulations require an adjustment for the brightness of these lights. Safety risk: during nighttime operation, if the lights for the controls and indicators are too bright, a driver’s vision could be affected. This could create an increased risk of a crash. Corrective actions: prevost will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a prevost service center to install a controller for adjusting the brightness of the lights for the controls and indicators.

This could increase the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective actions: prevost will notify owners by mail and provide instructions for how to repair or replace the right-side rearview mirror.

• Recall 2019642 [Canada]: Powertrain
  Issue: on certain buses, the driveshaft clamp bolts may not be properly tightened. As a result, the driveshaft could detach. This could cause a loss of power to the drive wheels and disable the bus. It could also cause the driveshaft to detach completely from the vehicle. Safety risk: a bus that is disabled could result in a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury. Additionally, a driveshaft that separates from the vehicle could create a hazard for others nearby and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: prevost will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a prevost service center to replace and ensure the driveshaft clamps are tightened correctly.

• Alternator front bearing failure investigation # PE21011

  Nhtsas office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation after reviewing field reports concerning alternator front bearing failures that cause elevated temperatures within the engine compartment, resulting in the fire suppression system (fss) activating, immediately shutting the engine down, and rendering the bus inoperable.Analysis of the data provided by prevost car (us) inc. Showed high failure frequency and thermal events. An immediate shutdown of the bus can increase the risk of a crash or injury of bus occupants. In response to this investigation, prevost car (us) inc. And volvo bus corporation decided to conduct recalls 22v-221 and 22v-222. By submitting part 573 defect information reports on april 6, 2022, prevost car (us) inc. And volvo bus corporation notified odi of a safety defect in certain model year (my) 2010-2023 prevost h3-45; x3-45; x3-45 com; h3-45 vip: x3-45 vip and 2020 volvo 9700 vehicles; some of these buses may have experienced thermal events after failure of the alternator front bearing, because the alternator belt continues to turn the alternator after the bearing failure.These recall actions address the safety concern that led to the opening of this investigation.Therefore, with these recall actions, this investigation is closed. The recalls encompass all model and my vehicles addressed by the investigation. However, the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist in other model or my vehicles outside of the recall scope. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
