  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2013-2018 328d, 328d xdrive, 2014-2018 328d sports wagon, 328d xdrive sports wagon, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xdrive, 2015 740ld xdrive, 2015-2017 x3 xdrive28d sav, and 2014-2017 x5 xdrive35d sav diesel vehicles equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation (egr) module with an integrated cooler. The egr cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.
  dealers will replace the egr cooler and inspect the intake manifold, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. This recall includes all vehicles previously recalled under 18v-755. Vehicles previously recalled under 18v-755 will need to have the new remedy performed for this recall. An interim owner notification letter was mailed on january 18, 2022.   Bmw north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2017 bmw x5 m and bmw x6 m vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with 21-inch tires, however the tire information label states that the vehicles are equipped with 20-inch tires. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 110, "tire selection and rims."

  This recall was replaced by transport canada recall no. 2021-711. On certain vehicles, the cooler for exhaust gas recirculation (egr) module may develop an internal leak and coolant could mix with diesel engine soot/sediment. In rare circumstances, this condition could result in smouldering particles and lead to the melting of the intake manifold, increasing the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the egr cooler, and if necessary, replace it. If it is determined that the egr cooler has leaked internally, the intake manifold will also be replaced. The egr pipe connecting the cooler to the manifold will be cleaned. Note: an operator may be alerted to this condition by one or more of the following symptoms: a warning symbol in the instrument cluster displaying a loss of engine coolant, a reduction in engine power, an unpleasant odour (exhaust gas), an unusual noise from the engine compartment, and/or smoke from the engine compartment.

  Certain m-series vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 110 - tire selection and rims. For some x5 m and x6 m vehicles, the tire and loading information label incorrectly states the vehicles were equipped with 20-inch tires, however the vehicles are equipped with 21-inch tires. For some m6 cabriolet and m6 coupe vehicles, the tire and loading information label incorrectly states the vehicles were equipped with 19-inch tires, however the vehicle is equipped with 20-inch tires. Additionally, the label for the m6 cabriolet and m6 coupe vehicles incorrectly displays a value of 32psi (220 kpa), although it should display a value of 35psi (240kpa). Correction: dealers will replace the tire and loading label.

• Recall 2017150 [Canada]: Airbag
  On certain vehicles, the passenger's frontal airbag could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment due to a potential airflow impairment in the inflator module. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the passenger's frontal airbag inflator.

• High pressure fuel pump failure investigation # EA23001

  The office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe21-021 on october 14, 2021, to investigate incidents alleging a stall/loss of motive power as a result of high-pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (my) 2019-2020 ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7l cummins turbodiesel engines. During the investigation, odi sought to determine if the related defect allegation was limited in scope to the recalled population. After review of information request response materials from both fca and bmw, nhtsa determined that sufficient information to identify a comprehensive recall population could not be produced by fca and bmw.During the investigation fca filed recalls 22v406, 22e048, 22v767, and 22e087 which include vehicles not identified in the initial subject population by odi. Odi also received recall 21v586, involving loss of motive power due to failed cp4 fuel pumps on certain bmw manufactured vehicles. An information request letter response received from bmw indicated that failed pumps on their vehicles were caused by an interaction between pump internal components and us market diesel fuel, leading to increased slip and eventual particle-generating wear surface. • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). Front passage door becomes unlocked/ not secure while driving my doors are set to auto-lock when i drive off. Today’s incident occurred when i hit a normal bump in the road. I heard a pop, which was the front passenger door unlocking. This jarred the door from the locked position to rattling in the door frame. The car’s auto lock issue is activated therefore, it’s trying to lock the door. Then car system reports a need to stop the car to prevent rolling as the doors are not secure. It goes without saying how dangerous this is. Searchers this issue in the internet. Seems some x5 owners reporting a issue with the door cables? Saw no recall. My car is out of warranty but this is a serious safety issue bmw should address help! Note, this bumpis located in the parking lot entrance to my office’s garage.

I was driving down the highway at approximately 55mph when the sunroof exploded. Fortunately the sunroof sliding cover was closed and the glass did not enter the car. I did see some pieces flying down the highway behind me. I was not driving under any overpass at time, nor did i hear or see any rocks or objects hit the glass.

The car stopped without any warning 3 time in the middle of the road while driving my wife and kids inside the car. I consider very lucky this happened on county road two time and ones in the shopping center parking lot, instead of middle of the highway. I have taken the car to the dealership for the second time they are still trying to figure out what's wrong with gauges. Last time it happened was 11/13 while my wife was driving with the daughter to doctor's appointment, gas reading shows above 1/4 tank and 146 miles remaining (i have pictures of the cluster). But the car abruptly stop twithought any warning which will be a deadly situation if happened in the highway. The reason for it to stop was no gas in the tank though it gives a reading of over 1/4 tank 146 miles remaining. My last visit to the dealer was about a month back and i was told they replaced the gas tank and the sensor inside the tank which was covered under vehicle warranty. I feel very unsafe driving this car, i have reported the issues bmw na customer service and the car is with bmw of rockville.

The contact stated that on the day the vehicle was purchased, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer due to low tire pressure on the passenger's side rear tire. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the passenger's side rear tire experienced a blowout. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence. An independent mechanic observed the tire and stated that the tire was defective. The tire was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage on the vehicle was 27,000. The tire failure mileage was 2,000.

I have a 2017 bmw x5 35d and the transmission broke down without a warning while i was in motion on the city street . I lost the engine power but i was able to avoid an accident by pulling the car on the side . I checked the fault message on the display and it showed "transmission malfunction you can continue to drive at moderate speed " . I was able to drive the car home at 30 miles per hour maximum speed . While at home i called a tow truck to take the car to the bmw dealership for evaluation and repair . I am glad that i am safe it could have been a lot worse if it would broke down on the interstate .
