These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the driver frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.

  Midwest automotive designs, llc (midwest) is recalling certain custom vans and camper van recreational vehicles built on 2014-2017 mercedes benz sprinter chassis and 2016-2017 ram promaster chassis. These vehicles are equipped with kidde plastic-handle or push button 'pindicator' fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Over time, this could cause the seat to loosen and detach. Note: this recall only affects vans that were sold by mercedes-benz mississauga, and up-fitted by total autoglass.   On certain motorhomes built on a mercedes sprinter cutaway or mercedes chassis, the radio volume control module connected to the mercedes chassis electrical system can cause improper operation of various electrical systems. This can result in an engine stall, and/or interference with the proper operation of the airbag system. Additionally, dash warning lights, exterior running lights can also be affected.   On certain vehicles with folding seats and a total permissible weight of under 4536 kg (10,000 lbs), the information label for body builders contains incorrect information regarding the unloaded vehicle weight (uvw). The purpose of the label is to provide fuel consumption relevant weight information, however, if a body builder were to refer to the incorrect uvm information, the maximum permissible uvw may be exceeded after the vehicle modification is complete, which in the event of a crash, could increase risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the label and check that the uvw is not exceeded.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). • Rear wheel speed sensor failure investigation # PE20014

  The office of defects investigation (odi) analyzed complaint data provided by daimler vans usa, llc (daimler) as well as complaints submitted to odi from consumers to identify incidents related to rear wheel speed sensors (rwss) failures. Odis analysis identified 6,710 incidents of rwss failure (unique vins) in my 2012-2018 mercedes- benz and freightliner sprinter vehicles upfitted to campers or recreational vehicles (rvs) representing 81 percent of all sprinter rwss reports. Complaint and warranty analysis indicated that the majority of incidents (approximately 99%) were related to rwss moisture intrusion condition in the sprinter 3500 5-ton variant, which accounts for 98 percent of upfit campers, where moisture build-up and crystal dendrite formation develop in parked rvs and lead to sensor failures. According to the daimler information request (ir) response, if the wheel speed information is detected as implausible by the electronic stability program (esp) control unit, the esp system enters a failsafe mode where:-driver torque requests are no longer accepted;-cruise control, if used, would be deactivated; -the esp/abs system shuts off; and -multiple warning lamps and messages advise the operator to take the vehicle to the workshop. While the majority of reports involved only abs and/or esp warning lights and messages on the instrument cluster due to faulty sensor signals triggering a failsafe mode, some reports cited intermittent sensor failures resulting in increased vehicle speed while in cruise control and degraded abs or esp. Degraded esp functionality may impact driving stability of the 5-ton vehicle.On feb 3, 2021, following discussion with odi, daimler submitted a defect information report (dir) to nhtsa describing a defect in the rwss disabling the esp control unit functions in approximately 48,667 my 2012 through 2018 mercedes-benz and freightliner sprinter 3500 vehicles manufactured from jan 4, 2012 through oct 25, 2018 (recall 21v-042). In its dir, daimler indicated that rwss sensor failures are prevalent in camper vans due to sustained periods of non-use, during which time the moisture may not dry out, remaining inside the plastic housing package. If the moisture within the rwss dries and the rwss returns to normal operation, the failsafe mode and the warning lights will disappear at the next ignition cycle, but the sensor fault remains stored within the esp control unit and can be accessed through a diagnostic evaluation. Odi will continue to monitor field experience in sprinter non-rvs and sprinter 2500 rvs 3-ton and 3.5-ton variants (approximately 626 vehicles).Daimler will notify owners of the recalled vehicles and advise them to take their vehicle to a mercedes-benz or freightliner sprinter dealer, who will replace the rwss with a repackaged sensor with high robustness against moisture intrusion. Daimler began notifying dealers and owners in feb 2021. Tl* the contact owns a 2017 mercedes-benz sprinter 2500. The contact stated that the cargo sliding door failed to open from the inside or outside. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

Every 400 0r so miles the check engine light comes on. Codes are 19de00h and P16CC00 and P18F100 relating to the def burn. I have stopped at three mb dealerships. They look at code and reset system and tell me to drive the vehicle. They also have sent several people letters to request they have the vehicles for two weeks to study the problem. I can't do that.

Every 400 0r so miles the check engine light comes on. Codes are 19de00h and P16CC00 and P18F100 relating to the def burn. I have stopped at three mb dealerships. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, mercedes-benz of lynnwood (17800 hwy 99, lynnwood, wa 98037, (425) 375-0802) where it was diagnosed with needing a spring clamp to be replaced. I have to add a new clamp to fix the issue. Im so surprised to learn that mb have done nothing to fix that issue on all sprinter van... Its a "time bomb" to happen 7 could seriously have a deadly consequence in an emergency losing your power steering

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Gerzenzy's rv world (940 lakeland park center dr, lakeland, fl 33809, (863) 694-0320) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. The vin was not available. *bf consumer stated no longer have the vehicle traded it in! No vin provided. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 mercedes-benz sprinter. While driving various speeds, the slider engaged and opened without warning. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The manufacturer sent an independent mechanic to diagnose and repair the control module and the slide out switch, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The manufacturer informed the contact that due to the high heat climate she lived in, the failure would recur. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 68,000.
