Mitsubishi motors north america, inc. (mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 lancer evolution vehicles manufactured january 31, 2014, to september 5, 2014, and 2014-2015 lancer ralliart vehicles manufactured february 3, 2014, to september 5, 2014. The affected turbocharged vehicles have a right parking brake cable that may contact the fuel tank, wearing away the tank's protective coating.
mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the right parking brake cable, and inspect the fuel tank, free of charge. If the fuel tank's exterior coating shows signs of damage from abrasive contact with the right parking brake cable, the fuel tank will also be replaced, free of charge. • Recall 104801 [USA]: Due to abrasion and rust, a hole may develop in the power steering tube, allowing the fluid to leak out, resulting in added steering effort, increasing the risk of a crash. additionally, the leaking fluid increases the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source such as a hot engine or exhaust component.
Mitsubishi motors north america, inc. (mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2014 lancer evolution vehicles manufactured january 31, 2014, through february 21, 2014, and 2014 lancer ralliart vehicles manufactured february 3, 2014, through february 14, 2014. The affected vehicles may have insufficient clearance between the power steering pressure tube and the crossmember brace.
mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the power steering tube for sufficient clearance. If the vehicle has insufficient clearance, the power steering tube assembly will be replaced, free of charge. The manufacturer notified owners in july 2014. • Recall R/2015/219 [UK]: Fuel may leak
The right hand side parking brake cable may interfere with the fuel tank. As a result there is possibility of peeling off the coating on the fuel tank. In the worst case the fuel tank can corrode and leak. Leaking fuel is a risk to other road users.
recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the right hand side parking brake cable with a new one. In addition the fuel tank will be checked and if necessary replaced.

  • Recall 2018588 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the wiper link rod with a countermeasure one, and will replace the wiper motor crank arm with a new one.

  • Recall 2016382 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road salt usage, a mixture of snow, water and road-salt solution may infiltrate between the front impact sensor and the bracket that attaches it to the vehicle. Over time, repeated freezing/thawing cycles could cause a crack to develop in the sensor case allowing water intrusion and short circuit of the sensor. In the event of a crash, this could result in delayed deployment of the driver and passenger front airbags which would increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the front impact sensor and replace it if it is found to be cracked. An updated designed bracket and cover will also be installed.

  • Recall 2015386 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the right parking brake cable may have been incorrectly installed resulting in insufficient clearance with the fuel tank, causing abrasive contact between the two components. This contact could result in the coating on the fuel tank deteriorating and allowing rust to form, which could result in fuel leakage. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the right parking brake cable and inspect the fuel tank. If the fuel tank’s exterior coating is damaged from contact with the parking brake cable, the fuel tank will also be replaced.

  • Recall 2014192 [Canada]: Steering
Certain vehicles may have been manufactured with insufficient clearance between the power steering pressure tube and the cross-member brace, possibly causing the power steering pressure tube to rust from abrasive contact. This could cause a power steering fluid leak, resulting in increased steering effort and potential for a fire in the presence of an ignition source. This could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect line routing and replace the pressure line as required.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Air bag acu electrical overstress investigation as of 20190419

The office of defects investigation (odi) is expanding the investigation to include the equipment supplier and vehicle manufacturers (oems) using this unit. The investigation focuses on acus manufactured by trw, now zf-trw (zf) , the tier-one supplier to hyundai and kia and the other affected oems. The acu senses a vehicle crash to determine whether air bag deployment is required, and if so, deploys the appropriate air bags and other supplemental restraints.Zf supplied subject acus to six oems: fca, honda, hyundai, kia, mitsubishi and toyota.Internal to the acu is an electronic component (an application specific integrated circuit, or asic) that monitors signals from crash sensors.A failure of the asic may prevent deployment of the required air bags and devices, or may otherwise affect the proper operation of the acu.The acu is located in the passenger compartment, and electrical wiring connects the asic to sensors located at the front of the vehicle.Odi’s current understanding is that a crash event may, in and of itself, produce harmful signals on the sensor wiring capable of damaging the asic, although the probability of this occurring appears to be low. While the acu incorporates electrical circuitry intended to protect the asic from harmful signals, the level and effectiveness of the protective circuitry varies by oem customer.During pe18-003, hyundai and kia filed recalls (18v-137 and 18v-363 respectively) to address a defect that could result in acu disablement and non-deployments.According to the filings, the disablement occurs in certain types of frontal crash events. Both filings discussed a condition known as electrical overstress (eos) that affected the subject asic and was likely caused by electrical signals that entered the acu via sensor wiring. The recalled vehicles used acus that had the lowest levels of asic protection while non-recalled hyundai and kia products using subject acus had higher levels of protection.Odi has not identified any eos failures in the non-recalled kia and hyundai populations. In september 2016, fca filed recall 16v-668 for certain model year (my) 2010 to 2014 chrysler, dodge and jeep products also manufactured with the subject acu.In that filing, fca also discussed an eos condition that resulted in a failure of the subject asic, which caused air bag non-deployment. Fca noted that the defect condition had only been observed in vehicles equipped with sensor harnessing routed across the front of the vehicle.Other fca vehicles that also used the subject acu, but not the cross-car harnessing, had not experienced eos failures, despite similar time in service. The recalled fca vehicles used a mid-level form of asic protection.Other fca vehicles that did not use cross car wiring, or used higher levels of asic protection, have not been recalled.Odi has not identified any eos failures in the non-recalled fca population.Recently, odi has identified two substantial frontal crash events (one fatal) involving toyota products where eos is suspected as the likely cause of the non-deployments.The crashes involved a my 2018 and a my 2019 corolla equipped with the subject acu that incorporated higher levels of asic protection.Additionally, both acus were found to be non-communicative (meaning the acu could not be read with an event data recorder) after the crash, a condition found in other cases where eos occurred with other oems.No other eos events have been identified for other toyota products (including corolla models that used the subject acu since my 2011), or for the honda and mitsubishi vehicles that use the subject acu.Odi plans to evaluate the susceptibility of the subject acu designs to electrical signals, as well as other vehicle factors that can either lead to, or reduce the likelihood of, an eos event.Additionally, odi will evaluate whether an unreasonable risk exists that requires further field action.

The pump needs to be relocated and replaced at mitsubishi's cost. It's not fair to the buyers that we were paying for a car that we had to buy 1 $1700+ part and labor. It should be a safety concern because if the pump goes while driving it is a safety hazard. In winter of 2018 was my first year in snow with it. About february whenever the weather would get above 40 degrees, the tarmac light would start to flash signaling the pump is failing.

On 09/15/2018 at roughly 11:30 am while operating my 2014 mitsubishi lancer evolution x with 32,xxx miles i experienced a loss of power, increased exhaust noise and the illumination of powertrain fault lights on the instrument cluster. After pulling off the roadway to inspect the issue a small engine bay fire had been found (chard paint/insulation and a still smoldering wiring harness). After ensuring that the fire was out and safe the vehicle was brought to the dealership that it had been purchased from (mangino mitsubishi of clifton park) and dropped off. The car is useless in its current state and had to be tow from the dealership to a storage facility where it has been ever since. But i refuse to report the damages to my insurance because i should not have to cover damages caused by bolts that were installed improperly at the factory. I have spoken with the technicians and service advisers at the dealership. They've informed me that a failure like this should never happen if the bolts are properly installed and that they don't see why it wouldn't be covered under warranty. It is my belief that mitsubishi is trying to avoid blemishing there reputation and is refusing to admit to a fault that caused a fire in a vehicle. I don't believe this is an appropriate way to run a business. It is unsafe and unethical and am asking for assistance to receive the benefits of the warranty that i paid for.

Acd pump heavily corroded from normal use. The location and material are guaranteed to cause corrosion. There are even aftermarket relocation kits available. This problem needs to be recognized.

Vehicle has cvt transmission and when the car and engine are cold the transmission will not move the car. Car revs to 1500-2000 rpm amd will eventually begin to creep forward. Car only had 75,000 miles but as we are the 2nd owner mitsubishi will not warranty although the original owner warranty is 100,000 miles and there is already a tecall on this same transmission in the outlander.

I bought my 2014 mitsubishi lancer in nov. 2014 at long lewis ford in florence, al, where i received all regular maintenance and service performances for it. On sept. 15, 2017, i was driving down the road in my 2014 mitsubishi lancer and experienced complete engine failure (while in motion), creating a safety hazard. Once the system failed, i could no longer accelerate and could only "coast" to try and find a safe spot to brake. When i opened the hood, the main relay had caught fire, was black, burnt up, and melted on the inside. I couldn't get my car to go in neutral or any systems to work to get it completely off the road, creating another safety hazard, and had to have it towed. A sales tech met me with a new relay that i purchased. The new relay did not get my car moving again because when the relay (that was in my car when i bought it) caught fire, it caused damage to the computer/ecm. When giving the part numbers from my relay and ecm/computer for replacements, the parts specialists and i realized that the part numbers for the computer/ecm matched only a 2015 computer/ecm, and there was not a matching part number for the relay as that exact one was unobtainable, and a different one that was compatible had to be purchased. I have recently learned that there is a recall for the 2015-2017 mitsubishi lancer relays because there is a defect in the relay which causes complete engine failure. I would appreciate an investigation being performed to see if the 2014 mitsubishi lancers should be included under this recall as i have experienced the same relay issue, safety hazard and concerns, and also due to the fact that my 2014 lancer has a 2015 system in it. I need to make certain whether the relay that was put in my 2014 lancer when built, and when replaced, was/is not defective. Please advise if i need to direct this safety concern to another appropriate administrator.

On september 2, 2014, i purchased a 2014 mitsubishi lancer evolution gsr. On october 17, 2014, with a little over 2700 miles the service/maintenance light comes on and i drove the car to mitsubishi to have them check the car out. On october 21, 2014, i returned to dealer and the car was immediately was driven inside and placed on a lift to be inspected. I was told by the service manager that it would be a longer wait then expected due to mitsubishi's head office being located in california, and time zone difference. I was not given a loaner car, standard practice on a brand new vehicle with full warranty and he ( svr. Manager) did not give me any information while i waited. The next day, i received a call from vin from mitsubishi service department who told me mitsubishi, wants to get authorization from me to break down the cars engine/transmission in order to move forward and it would cost me $1100, if they saw that it wasn't a defect on mitsubishi's part. I gave the authorization and was called again by vin, who advised me that the car had a defective seal and the car is covered under warranty. On october 22, 2014, at about approx. 4:25pm i received a call from mitsubishi service department to give me a new update on the defective parts and repairs. Vin told me that the clutch & fly wheel had burned out and that mitsubishi was no longer going to cover repairs, which had now reached $3,200. This is an expensive car from mitsubshi; we bought it with 11 miles on it and it is inconceivable that a brand new car can have such defective problems. Mitsubishi is not upholding their responsibilities and we feel we have been sold a lemon. How can a vehicle go in for an oil leak and suddenly have all these major issues? October 27th i was told by the district manager of mitsubishi that the car was not going to be covered and mitsubishi told me to "do as you please." *tr

I was involved in a accident and the air bag exploded. My concern is i was 47 and pretty good shape yet i had pain in my chest for over12 mo. I concerned people in less shape than me will never survice the imkpact of that airbag because i felt like i barely survived. Maybe this is the way it works i never had one hit me before but to this day i still feel a little pain.
