  • Recall 69976 [USA]: If the bolt comes out completely, the driver may experience difficulty controlling the direction of the vehicle which could result in a crash.
    Nissan is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 nissan altima sedan vehicles manufactured from april 25, 2011, through june 10, 2011 at the canton, mississippi plant. The transverse link bolt may not have been torqued to the proper specification. This condition could cause the bolt to become loose while the vehicle is being driven, creating a rattling noise and vibration.
    nissan will replace the transverse link bolts and nuts and tighten them to the proper torque specification free of charge. The safety recall began on august 8, 2011. Owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

    Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. I purchased this car just five years ago from a nissan dealership in ca. I don't drive it much because i use a work vehicle during the week. Over the last year, i've had problems with rattling, transmission delays and sudden surges in power. A few weeks ago, the car lost its ability to accelerate while heading over the grapevine to socal. The car suddenly slowed to 35 mph on the highway! I had to quickly switch lanes in order to avoid a collision. Once in the slow lane, the car held up traffic and numerous angry drivers sped around me. This is a huge safety issue!!! The car only has 96,000 miles on it. This shouldn't happen! Today, i took the car to my local nissan dealership for a 90k service. An advisor called me several hours later to inform me i need to replace the transmission at the cost of more than $3,700. He also said the car has several hose leaks, etc. These are suspiciously similar problems other drivers reported having with their 2013-2016 altimas as well as 2006-2010 altimas. Why was the 2011 left out of the warranty extension and class action lawsuit? I could have been struck by another car when my altima suddenly lost power on the highway! It could have impacted the lives of other drivers around me! Nissan needs to fix its transmission issues. It's becoming a safety issue! The company also needs to take care of it's customers - if it doesn't want to lose them forever! I can not believe my car needs a new transmission when it has under 96,000 miles! I had a toyota camry last til 365,000 miles! I would definitely not recommend buying a nissan!!! You just may put lives at risk!

The dashboard to my vehicle has gotten sticky. Anything that touches it gets stuck to it (bugs, paper, etc.) even the windshield cover to protect it from the sun gets stuck to it. My 2011 nissan altima has a melted dashboard and the clear coat is coming off. Most importantly, there is a terrible glare from the damaged dashboard and it is a major safety hazard. See the attached pictures. I contacted nissan nat'l and they said it was out of warranty, but they would help me. They had me get diagnosis on the dash and clear coat, then told me no, it's out of warranty!!? I understand a lot of other nissan owners are having the same problems. Fueling the vehicle has had intermittent issues. Sometimes the pump would shut off prior to being full and i would have to manually hold it to get tank full. Today i attempted to fill the tank and it would only stay on for a few second and then the nozzle would come out if the tank and spray gas all over. Over the past couple of months the steering in my car has gotten tough. I thought it may have been the power steering pump. I took it to the shop and they couldn't find the problem, being that the power steering pump was working properly and the fluid level was good. Yesterday i was at the gas station getting fuel. When checked the code it is giving is P0826 which indicates "a problem in the electrical circuit of the upshift/downshift switch to the transmission range correlation circuit. My nissan altima 2.5 s, at 123,000 miles, began losing power while i was driving in busy traffic. My car eventually stopped. I had my car hauled to my home, by a tow truck. The nissan dealership was notified and given the vin #. This particular year (2011), was not on the recall list , but previous years had been added to the list, for the same problem (cvt transmission). I read multiple complaints online regarding nissans trouble with the cvt transmission in all nissan cars for all years. The dealership admitted there were problems and complaints about the cvt transmissions, but they couldn't do anything about it since my car's year (2011) wasn't on the list. I have taken great care of my car, keeping up with the preventive maintenance, since i purchased it brand new. Any car losing power in busy traffic is a safety issue. This issue should have a class action law suit brought against nissan. It is frequently talked about online. A tremendous amount of nissan customers are complaining about the same issue (cvt transmission) in all of their cars, no matter how many miles the cars have been driven. Please have nissan take responsibility for this faulty cvt transmission that they chose to install in all of their cars, which was a big mistake and a danger to the nissan drivers and the public. Cvt transmissions, which are equivalent to a pulley /chain system, do not belong in cars. A more durable/appropriate transmission is needed in their cars to keep the nissan drivers and the public safe from harm or death. This issue is a disaster waiting to happen. My car is currently with a mechanic, attempting to be repaired with a used cvt transmission, which is all i could afford at this time. I feel it doesn't matter whether it's used or new, it's still a cvt transmission that will eventually fail. Renting a car now. I will upload the repair bill when the repair is completed.

In january 2018, i took my nissan altima to a nearby authorized nissan dealer explaining that the car was not accelerating after stopping. When depressing the gas pedal, the car engine would not immediately engage and would stay idle until seconds passed to which point the car would accelerate to the speed limit whil driving on interstates and local roads. The nissan dealer (porter nissan in newark de) indicated the despite my having brought the car in for service regularly (most recently in dec. 2017 and july 2017) they indicated previous diagnostic tests had not found that my transmission was in need of repairs. They indicated that the repair cost would exceed $5,000 which is clearly a result of a defective manufacturing process given my car has under 85,000 miles. My extended warranty expired and so.I contacted nissan directly and reported the concern and they have opened a case number but haven't heard back from them. I've done research online and it appears nissan has been subjected to federal law suits stemming from transmissions difficulties and in response extended the warranty from 100k to 120 miles for nissan altimas manufactured between 2003-2010. Therefore, i am reporting these concerns to your organization and would respectfully request your guidance on next steps.

I replaced all four original tires on car in 1/2015. Vehicle had 43k miles on; tires had always been rotated and properly inflated to 32 psi. During the next months, i noticed increasing noise as the car accelerated and decelerated. I tried to determine the source of the rythmic thumping noise but was unable. I had tires inspected and no problems could be found with approximately 9,000 miles on the tires. I noticed increasing rhythmic noise but could not locate which tire was the source. We had a flat tire from a roofing nail in the rr which required the tire to be replaced. Replaced tire with another goodyear assurance. With this new tire on the rr, i was able to locate the road rumble to the right front, so i had that tire replaced with another goodyear assurance. Noise seemed to go away. As my wife is the principle driver of this car, i thought the problem had been solved with the two new tires (as one had been failing). On a 500 mile trip, i noticed that the road noise (low rumble directly associated with tire speed, especially at low speeds). I now realize that the road noise must be coming from one/or both of the original tires that were placed on the car in 2017. On close inspection of these two tires, i have noticed multiple areas of a fine splitting approximately 1 inch down the side of the side wall on both of these tires which may be indicative of tread separation. I am to the point where i feel uncomfortable taking this car on the highway. I have asked three different dealers about this and i get many assorted answers, but the bottom line is that these tires make a rumbling noise directly related to tire speed and show signs of sidewall cracking. I don't want to get to the point of an endangering blowout and am considering replacing all 4 tires in the near future. This car is driven mostly on local city street and very infrequently on highways.

The dashboard on my 2011 nissan altima is melting. This has been an ongoing problem for months. The melting areas become soft, sticky, cracked and shiny. If the dashboard is not replaced the glare created by the shiny areas will make the car hazardous to drive and the melting will ultimately damage the equipment covered by the dashboard - equipment the car needs to operate safely and equipment the dashboard is designed to protect. A recall was issued for 2008 and 2009 nissan altimas in which their melting dashboards were replaced. I have seen internet posts/complaints by other nissan altima owners with the same problem as mine involving other years. I have lived in florida almost my entire life and have never had a dashboard react this way; neither have any family members or friends. I have talked with the dealer and also registered a complaint with nissan (i have the complaint number and the dealer sent pictures) but neither are willing to help. The cost of replacing the dashboard is over $2000. Another more encompassing recall should be issued requiring nissan to replace all melting dashboards regardless of year. Doing so will ensure the safety of the driver and the protection of the car and its equipment - protections rightfully expected by the driver at the time of purchase. Since this has been an ongoing problem i have noted below the approximate date that i actually realized the dashboard was melting.

While in motion the traction control light comes on and it will not let us accelerate above 2500 rpm. The car jolts or stutters not changing into a higher gear. Possible cvt transmission over-heating/fail-safe issue? I was on the highway after driving for 2 hours and my engine started making a 'whirring' noise and i had trouble accelerating. The speed limit was 70 but as much as i tried to accelerate, it would barely get passed 50mph. This almost caused an accident with a semi-truck as we approached a hill because i could barely get up it. I had to pull off the highway and let the car rest for a while. I had to drive another 2 hours to get home and after another hour, it did the same thing. Soon after, i took it to the dealer and they said the only thing they could suggest was to give me a new transmission! I got a second opinion from a transmission repair shop and they said that possibly adding a secondary cooling system would help but they couldn't guarantee that would fix the issue. From my research, it seems that a reason for this happening is that the cvt transmission produces too much heat for the cooling system to handle and eventually goes into a fail-safe mode that caps the acceleration power of the car, in order to protect the transmission from being damaged. I could understand the need for the fail-safe to kick in in extreme circumstances but not after driving for 2 hours at regular highway speeds. This is not normal and extremely aggravating. I have read that this is a common safety issue which affects both new and older cars and nissan chooses to do nothing about it. I have not been able to drive my car more than an hour on the highway because it starts to make that 'whirring' noise and i know it won't be long before the fail-safe kicks in. This has been beyond disappointing and even more so that nissan won't take responsibility to improve their cvt issues and provide the necessary repairs. I own my car outright but the warranty has expired. No option for that route. Very inconvenient.

2011 nissan altima sr sedan 3.5 cvt. When driving, cvt goes into safe mode with reduced acceleration, indicating a transmission issue and would also trigger vehicle dynamic control system fault.. Original engine code was P0175. Had mechanic replace 31935-1xf00 speed sensor assy. Problem was not corrected. Took to local dealer and was told needs new transmission control module unit $850 and new transmission $3,500. Only 39,400 miles on vehicle (60,000 mile powertrain) but past he 60 month warranty by 5 months. Nissan will not cover. Nissan na consumer affairs contacted, researched and also denied. Will not cover and will not provide any partial assistance. Car is in excellent condition, driven lightly and no way transmission should need to be replaced at 39,000 miles. Manufacture date of vehicle is dec 2010. Nissan extended cvt warranties to 10 years / 120k miles for several years because of the same and other cvt issues. Stopped extended warranty for 2011 models. Don't know if car is safe to drive or if transmission is going to fully fail. Took vehicle back from dealer, can't afford to fix. Now trying to replace transmission control unit with used same year/model. When vehicle is completely disconnected, trouble codes cleared and all electrical drained, then reconnected, all issues disappear for 10 to 20 miles of perfectly normal driving, then issues recur with cvt fail safe mode and vdc fault. Nissan should be recalling this issue and correcting it!! Again don't know if vehicle is safe to drive or if transmission is going to fail in the middle of getting onto highway in heavy traffic? Dealer diagnostic showed a number of codes: P0175 input speed sensor a (even though it has been replaced and new), P1700 cvt c/u funct, P1715 in puly speed, U1000 can comm circuit and also told the tcm is not sending a signal. *tr

My trouble began as i sat and fueled my car with the same type of gas that i have been using for years. I filled my tank, started my car and it started huffing and puffing as if it was about to shut off. After a few minutes it stopped. A few days later while i was driving down the road one day i heard this loud rattling noise as if a chain or something was dragging the ground or being rattled. I approached a red light and lowered my radio to listen and as i sat idle in drive i could hear this rattling noise coming from the front end of my car. As i drove down the road further it continued then stopped. I then parked my car and as i was in reverse the sound came back. I went on about my day and returned to my car to start it up and as i started it i heard the rattling loud noise again. I backed out of my parking spot and it continued. As i driving around at a speed of about 30-40 i could hear the noise come and go. I took my car to nissan and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong. They told me everything under the hood of my car was fine. A few days later i brought my car back to nissan informing them the noise is continuing and my car shakes and jerks. I left my car and they called and said my alternator needed to be replaced. Just a couple days prior they said everything was fine so now i'm confused. I took my car to 3 separate auto shops and had them test my alternator and all 3 said my alternator, battery and starter were working perfectly. I began to research online to see if anyone had the same issues i have and there it was. A recall for the transverse link bolt. I'm pissed that nissan would try to rip of a customer like that. *tr

At 45mph my vehicle lost power and when gas was pressed it did not respond. I continued to travel home. Everytime i stopped at stop sign or slow speed and try to accelerate the car would shake violently (all captured on video) and would not accelerate. This was very scary. No service light ever came on!!!! I continue the approximately 3-4 mile drive home and it would do the same every time i slowed or stopped. I had to drive up a very steep hill and i did not think my car was going to make it. The research i have done and the information shared to me by several mechanics state that the 2007-2010 altimas warranty for the cvt were extended from 60,000 to 120,000. This should have included the 2011 also, because the cvt problems continue. My car has only 104,000 miles on it and should not need a 4,000 transmission. I have owned a maxima and sentra in past and they were really great cars. All of the research that i have done reveals to me that jatco which nissan has 75% ownership of should be responsible and liable for these issues. The government should protect the public from this monopoly and help the little guy. It does not take much research to know that there is a major issue. The class action suit that individuals had to file due to the cvt in pathfinders being junk shows the government did not protect them. I will never own another nissan! Do the right thing nissan and extend the warranty to all vehicles that are obviously having cvt problems due to poor product performance and if nissan will not the government has enough evidence to make them do what they should have done on the own. We moved from illinois to florida in 2014, after living in florida for 2 years the dash board in the nissan became shiny and sticky, like it is melting. After contacting nissan about the problem, they mentioned that the car is out of warranty and there is no recall on the dash board. We feel this should be looked into for a recall due to the fact that the shiny reflection of the melted dashboard is causing poor visibility through the windshield due to the reflection from the sun. This feels like a big safety issue because this reflection causes large areas of blind spots across the windshield. Nissan should take responsibility like mazda, toyota, and lexus have and replace the dashboard under recall.

The passenger side airbag warning light is flashing and showing as turned off even when the seat is occupied. I searched for recalls dealing with this safety issued and find recalls for this issue on the 2007 to 2008 altima (recall 08v521000) and a new recall is just read about on the 2013 to 2016 altima,but none on my year. I opened a case (#23576396) and took it to my nissan dealer as instructed by the person i spoke with at the corporate number to have the issue analized. The service manager at the dealer told me the sensor in the passenger seat is defective and the fix is to replace the seat at a cost of $550.00 plus labor. I told him i would talk to the corporate contact and was charged $121.50 for diagnosis when i pick my car up. I spoke to allise at corp. And explained what the service manager had told me and was told that nissan's position is this is my responsibility to pay for. I told her i will file a complaint with the nhtsa as this is a safety issue which renders the front passenger side as unusable in this condition. This condition started approximately 3 months ago.

Problem happens both while driving and parked, and has occurred frequently for the life of the car. I have a 2011 nissan altima throwing cvt transmission codes. The car accelerates quickly to high rpm's and you have to take your foot off the gas to make the car drive properly. Nissan is fully aware of the cvt transmission issues as they have an extended manufacturer warranty up to 120k miles. However, it caps off at 2010 models. I was told my vin is not covered. I called nissan consumer affairs, but currently jumping hoops to see if this is covered. If nissan wants to sell vehicles with cvt transmissions, their warranty should be extended for all models and years. This is a known issue and should be addressed. We should not have to bare costs of 3000-5500 to replace a faulty transmission. This should be a recall. Currently, nissan just waits to see if a problem arises. They will most likely not cover this. I was never notified about problems with the cvt transmission. My car has 110k miles and should not need a new transmission. I have maintained my vehicle. This is unfair practice to consumers and find it appalling that you spend thousands of dollars on a brand new vehicle only to have a bad transmission that will break sooner rather than later. I have read numerous consumer complaints from nissan owners having cvt transmission issues with different mileage counts and models. All nissan owners should be made aware and all should have the extended manufacturer warranty. If the transmission is causing problems in so many nissan vehicles, its not the owner. It is clearly the manufacturer. Nissan should take responsibility and replace bad cvt transmissions when problems arise. I am truly surprised nothing has been done yet after reading numerous complaints about the same problem from nissan owners. If automobile companies want to continue selling cvt transmissions, they should have better warranties. I will never buy a vehicle with cvt transmission again.

There is a fault in the sensor for the front passenger-side seat airbag. It fails to properly sense that an adult is occupying the seat. The airbag-off indicator light often is lit when an adult who weighs approximately 102-105 pounds, is sitting in the front passenger seat. I brought this to the attention of our dealer, clay nissan of newton, mass. In december 2015. The dealer charged me $99.99 but failed to fix the problem. Their report stated that the airbag system was "operating as designed." obviously it wasn't. Newer altima models have been recalled for this exact problem. I own a 2011 nissan altima. The problem i've been having since i got my car is when the speedometer hits 35mph it pulls back the rpm drops and loses speed. Also when i am in traffic i step on the gas gently and the car jerks it feels like a stick shift car when your up shiftting. It feels so uncomfortable knowing my car moves in exaggerated way. Another thing it has is the rpm rev high when i gently pressing on the gas pedal i have to let go of the gas pedal and press gently again i have to repeat that 2-3 times for the rpm to be at normal it has waste gas by doing this. I have taken my car to two dealership the first told me that it was normal for my car to do that i was not satisfied on how my car was acting. I took it back several times they finally said it could be the transmission my car is under the 60,000 mile warranty the dealership contacted the manufacture and they deny to replace my transmission. I took my car to another dealership explain the problem my car was doing and the guy that was going to do my paperwork automatically said it's your transmission. He told me to leave my car and they were going to replace the transmission. I left my car for almost a week. In that time i was waiting i called like 3-4 times to ask about my car the only answer i got from the was we'll call you back in a few and never called me . I struggled to get on time to work and to my college classes since i had to take public transporation. I finally went to the dealership to check up on my car and they didn't do anything to my car. My car is still under the 60,000 mile warranty with the same problem and the dealership wont do any thing about my car.

I was traveling with 2 small children on a straight way on hwy and the front tire blew in the sidewall of my michelin tire. I was pulled across the other lane into a ditch striking a stone culvert after going airborne. I had purchased a set of michelin tires and they were a 70,000 mile tire and had 23,000 miles on them when this occurred. After investigation it was determined a blowout as there was no damage to wheel indication of road hazard that would have caused this type of damage to tire. In other words, the tire and wheel were in perfect condition other that the blown part in the sidewall and if i would have hit something hard enough to cause the tire that type of damage, they said it would have definitely affected my wheel. The tire had to be defective as there is reports are all over internet that these incidents are occurring with michelin tires. Buyer beware! My car was a total loss. I am without work and without a car now. *tr

The check engine light lit on the dashboard. The associated engine code was P2A00 and both the upstream (air/fuel ratio) and downstream (oxygen) air sensors had to be replaced. The repair cost close to $1,000 please note: this is after many other costly repairs, including most recently another filing with the nhtsa regarding issues with the power steering system where the rack & pinion had to be replaced. While the car has a lot of miles, they're mainly highway miles and the car has been extremely well maintained. Additionally please note: the catalytic converter was replaced ~33k miles ago. During this replacement, supposedly, the aforementioned sensors should've been checked and possibly replaced. *tr

I am currently in the army. I am conducting training at fort sill, ok and my wife is in north carolina where i actually work. My wife dropped the kids off at their schools and went to the store where the car was running fine and was having no issues. When she returned to the car to start it, the steering wheel was locked, brakes were locked, dashboard lights would not come one, had the red blinking car with key symbol and the ignition switch was saying locked, she was stuck in town, no way to pick up our kids, and no way to get back home. Ended up paying tow truck to take car to the house, changed batteries in key fob. Checked the battery, and nothing has fixed it. I have done some research on this issue and there are a multitude of complaints on this. This needs to be fixed now, i would be a lot more furious if it would have been my wife along with both of my sons that are 4 and 2. They would have been stuck there in the cold with no way home at that time. Nissan needs to get off their butts and take responsibility on their car defects. This is a serious problem and potentially be a hazard if this happens while driving. Please push to get this issue fixed before someone does get hurt. Do a search on 2011 nissan altima with steering wheel locking and not starting you will be amazed at all these complaints.Now my wife has to wait until i get back from training to get the car fixed. There have been several times the car was unable to start and unable to be shut off without having to be towed. They claimed it was a battery issue, but the car almost acted like it was encountering a software crash both times. I've had to have the exhaust / catalytic converter replaced on the car. I've had several major steering problems. At one point, a tie rod had to be replaced on this car. The latest steering issue just occurred in the last few weeks. On january 16, i took a road trip with my fiance and her sister to memphis, tn to visit her other sister. On the way down we noticed the car was difficult to steer. Upon inspection, we found the power steering fluid was low. We replaced it. However, we found it strange given the excellent maintenance on the car. As we drove, the steering issues recurred. We figured out there was a leak in the system. We bought a lot of power steering fluid in order to make it to memphis (there weren't many major cities on our way between where we came from and memphis, so we had to get to memphis.) several mechanics confirmed the issue was the rack & pinion system on the car. The dealership that ultimately repaired the car mentioned this brake was highly unusual, not due to poor maintenance, and not due to road hazards. Since the car is not out of warranty, i had to pay for the repair myself. Given the other major repairs that have occurred in the short time i've had this car, especially given the very diligent maintenance i've been performing on the car and despite the many miles already on it, i believe i've been sold a lemon. An internet search revealed that this condition and fix was identical to ones described in service bulletin ntb12-041. My complaint is against the dealership (nissan bridgewater nj) who failed to apply this software patch when it first appeared in april 2012 despite many returns i made to them for routine warranty service. The occurrence of this failure and citation of the service bulletin has been reported by several users in nissan user forums. I was traveling on the 60w in moreno valley. The temperature was about 90, it was pretty dry and hot. I was cruising along at 70 mph with my brother, infant niece and 10 year old son. When all of the sudden the speed just dropped to about 35 mph, due to there not being any warning at all (no error lights or brake lights), the car behind us nearly rear ended us. They had to swerve so suddenly it almost caused them to crash into the car next to us. I ended up pulling over for a few minutes, everything seemed to be fine, so we continued the drive home. About 8 miles down the road, the car's speed dropped again. This time i was already in the slow lane and was able to avoid any near crashes. I brought the car to nissan in corona ca. After a couple days, they were able to diagnose the problem being the cvt. I feel there should be some sort of a recall on the altima cvt. Nissan has been aware of the potential problem with the speed reducing while the cvt goes into safe mode without any warning to the driver or others on the road. On june 26, 2014 around 8pm, the car began to abruptly lose acceleration. I was unable to accelerate past 25mph. I fortunately made it home that evening, but friday, june 27, 2014; the vehicle would not accelerate at all. The engine would not rev in any gear and i was almost stranded in the middle of i95s during lunchtime rush hour. I unfortunately had to have the car towed to chapman nissan, where i was told that they would attempt to look at my car on monday, june 30. I called on monday, june 30 and did not receive a response until 230pm, where i was told that the transmission on the car needed to be replaced. I immediately filed a complaint with nissan the manufacturer as this was extremely unexpected on a 3 year old vehicle. I received a voice message from a regional complaint manager on july 1 who stated that she would call back on july 2. I have called every business day since july 2 with no adequate response from nissan. In doing my research for nissan altima transmission issues, i discovered that this "was" a common issue from 2006-2010, where they extended the warranty on the transmission to 120k miles. In 2011, they reduced the warranty to 60k miles. However, what nissan failed to do was alert owners, that they had issued "service bulletins" to their dealerships documenting the exact problem i had experienced on june 27. Brought back to repair shop, said i had a faulty battery. Battery replaced. February 2015, less than 3 weeks after new battery put in, car starts fine. Stopped for gas not even 2 minutes later. Trying to start car after filling up, car will not start. Steering wheel is in locked position, brakes are locked up, red light flashing as on dash as if there is no key in the car. Locks were not responsive to either manual button on door nor with key fob. Ignition would not even come close to turning over. No lights would turn on. Car was just dead. Had to tow to repair shop, where mechanic said battery was completely dead. It was brand new 3 weeks ago!!!! Still don't know the real root of the problem. No one can find anything else wrong with it. Have read several other posts with similar situations and it seems that nissan fixing the bcm is the only thing that seems to work in the long run. This is something they should be mandated to do!!!! Car is barely 4 years old and has had this problem for over a year. Ridiculous! Consumer writes in regards to braking system service bulletin. *smd the consumer stated when he received the service campaign and service bulletin, in the mail he was not experiencing any problems. However, in november 2013, the vehicle began to display some of the identifying problems associated with the service campaign. The brake warning light and traction control warning light illuminated. Also, the brakes were squeaking and occasionally made a grinding noise. The dealer inspected the vehicle and validated his complaint and they replaced the master cylinder in accordance with the service bulletin. However, when the consumer left the dealer, the brakes continued to squeak. The consumer took the vehicle to another dealer, for its 45,000 recommended service. He asked the dealer to check the brakes, as they were still grinding and squeaking. An inspection revealed the front brakes were worn to a level of 2mm, which explained the squeaking and grinding. Hello,my question pertains to the nissan altima and maxima. May i preface my statements with the fact that i owned a 2005, 2009 and 2011 nissan altima and while i traded my last one in for a different make, i had very much enjoyed the vehicle until i found out there was a dangerous flaw in the altima and, i was told by nissan, the maxima.In my 2011 altima, a serious panic stop, locking up the brakes, caused my vehicle to not move for 3-5 seconds. This happened several times and i had my local dealership look at the vehicle each time and each time i was told there was nothing wrong with the car but it reoccurred .After responses from the dealership went nowhere, i called the main nissan customer service line and was told that the problem was in the transmission of both vehicles. The special seamless transmission will cause a 3-5 second delay after a panic stop but it was normal for that type of transmission. When i asked what to do if that occurred on a freeway with a truck barreling down on me they had no answer.Not satisfied with that response i called a local radio auto talk show and was referred to a local auto shop as he had never heard of that specific problem. The local auto shop checked the vehicle and also said there was nothing wrong with the car but when i took the owner of the shop out he experienced it.His response was that this was the first time he had heard and experienced it but unless there were a lot of complaints for that specific problem nothing would happen.I now throw out this issue to you. Has this been a reported issue? Is it still a problem? After my experiences i felt very unsafe in the car. We won't go into the response i receive from nissan customer service or that lemon laws do not apply to this issue since the vehicle was deemed okay and nothing fixed.My writing to you is because these models received awards for safety.

When driving speeds as low as 25 miles per hour, the brakes started to grab. I first noticed that when i depressed the brake, when released, the pedal seemed to stick, as if there were gum on the bottom of my shoe, perhaps sticking to the pedal. I checked the pedal and it was clear. Then i noticed that when driving at slower rates of speed, as i eased on the brake, it seemed to depress again, then the brakes would grab harder. Took it to the dealer, they said it was the brake booster--$700 estimate to fix. I did not have an extended warranty, so i took it to a private mechanic, who evaluated the issue, and came to the same conclusion--brake booster. He showed me that it was busted. He was considerably cheaper, so i had him to fix the brake booster. It fixed the issue that i was feeling in the pedal when stopping, however, the brakes continued to grab, even at slower rates of speed (<25mph). At slower speeds, the brakes grabbed hard enough to throw passengers forward in the vehicle. He contacted nissan and found that there was a recall for my master cylinder, but only if it was leaking. My master cylinder did not appear to be leaking, but it is quite obvious that it has to be a faulty cylinder. I read several reports of nissan's master cylinders leaking causing the brake booster to fail. The nissan dealership in jonesboro said that they would replace the master cylinder, but the recall is for leaking master cylinders only. My mc is not leaking, and therefore, as it stands right now, it is not covered by the recall. *tr

New 2011 nissan altima hybrid, delivered, noticed right away seemed to be wandering all over road. Hard to steer a straight line. Took back to dealer with complaint, they took it and drove around parking lot, brought it back 2 minutes later said it was fine. It made for miserable driving, almost wrecked a few times due to inadvertent lane wandering. Noticeable tire wear at 4000 miles, had tires rotated. Traveling cross country, 10,000 mile trip. Rear tires wore down to steel belts and beyond, one blew out at 65 mph. Rear wheels leaning outward at the bottom, tires wore out on inside edges of both rear tires. Went to dealer who said hybrids eat tires rapidly. No wonder. Alignment was checked, it was way out of spec. I had an 09 altima hybrid with the exact same problem, making the same trip out west. Tires wore same way, had to buy 2 new ones in oregon. I live near boston. These cars come from the factory with non aligned rear suspension. Dealer aligned rear end of car and put on two new tires, and it drives much better now than it did when it was first delivered. Personally i think the rear end suspension design is poor, and i noticed that for the 2013 models they did a redesign of the rear suspension. In their ads they brag about how well it corners now! No wonder! Going around corners, if you hit a bump, the rear of the car will try to swing out, so you have to watch it if you corner at speeds above 30 mph. It can be dangerous at highway speeds. Both cars were the same way.The problem is aggravated when the car is loaded to max gross vehicle weight, as the tires visibly bow out at the bottom due to suspension design using unequal length "a" arms in the rear suspension, with a short upper " a" arm, a longer lower "a" arm. When suspension is loaded, the short upper arm pulls in more than the bottom, and bows bottom out so tires wear on inside edges dangerously. *tr

Pressing the vehicle power / ignition button (modern equivalent of starting key switch) did not have any effect, whether short or long duration presses were used, and regardless of delay between key presses. 4. Headlights & running lights were on regardless of the switch position of the headlight control switch. This resulted in the driver being stranded. Because the vehicle's lighting would not turn off, the battery ran down, disabling the vehicle further. Vehicle was towed to a nissan dealer. Nissan serviceman initially refused to write the customer problem description as per the customer description of the problem. Later, customer called back to the dealership to request the customer description include specific and correct information already provided by the customer such as vehicle was "completely unresponsive while all the warning light came [remained turned] on the vehicle. Doors would not lock or unlock.", the dealer reported that the service technician found tsb ntb12-041. Dealer record reads: "reprogrammed [sic] bcm update as per tsb. I set the climate control timer for my nissan leaf to turn on via the computer through nissan's carwings application. This is to pre-cool the car before driving. When i went to the car, the car was not cool but more importantly the car was disabled and unable to be started and had to be towed to the dealer. I have a new 2011 nissan altima sl which i parked in my church parking lot and went into church. At the end of mass, as i was leaving the church and walking toward the parking lot, i used my automatic start...The car started and was warming up. As i approached my running car, i walked in front of the car to get around to the driver's side. I opened the driver's side door and the car accelerated and took off moving forward with nobody in it. I was holding onto the door chasing after my car trying to jump in and put my foot on the brake to stop the car. I was unsuccessful as the car ran into another car in the parking lot and came to an abrupt stop. My car was damaged and still running. The parked car that it hit was damaged. Upon impact, i was thrown against the open door and then onto the pavement on my back/right side. Many people were exiting church and gathered around...It is fortunate that nobody was hit/run over by this "run-away" car. Someone in the crowd called the police and the ambulance...I was on the ground until both arrived. I was treated for muscle and soft tissue strain/trauma/ spasms. I missed a day of work. My insurance company investigated the incident but was unable to accurately pin blame on the responsible party...They say there is nothing else they can do. The manufacturer, nissan, had a company called auto express install an automatic start mechanism in the new car before delivering the car to me. Right now, nissan is blaming auto express for a faulty "autostart mechanism" or faulty installation. Auto express is blaming nissan for a faulty "park-neutral switch." bottom line: something was defective...And nobody wants to accept blame. The park-neutral switch has been cleared by nissan. The autostart has been removed by auto express. Auto express paid for my car repairs and rental car. Both companies are avoiding me... *tr

Vin# - [xxx]. Purchased from nissan of downtown la. Purchased new altima from dealer on 2/1/11. Before i refilled the car with fuel the "service engine soon" indicator light came on. I returned the car to be serviced on 2/8/2011. I was informed by nissan that the ses light was from not closing the gas tank tight enough (even though i still had never refueled the car since i had purchased it). The light indicator was reset by nissan service and later that day it came back on. On 6/23/11 i took the car back in for service and informed them of the re-occurring issue with the ses light. They ran a diagnostic check for a few hours and when they brought the car back they said that thy adjusted a valve setting that they believe to be causing the issue. Unfortunately about an hour after leaving the service garage the ses light came back on. On 1/12/12 i returned to nissan service for scheduled oil change and informed them again of the re-occurring ses light tissue. This time they informed me that they would need to run a diagnostic check again. When i responded that the diagnostic check had failed to resolve or identify the issue last time they offered no other alternative. To date the ses light has been on since the first day i purchased the car and has essentially remained on for almost a year. Furthermore i have rented a nissan altima 2011 model on several business trips where i have had to refuel the car and i have not encountered the ses indicator. Vehicle was backed into at approximately 0-5mph at 2,100 miles while legally parked. Since then, neither south point nissan of austin tx or town north nissan of austin tx have been able to explain why my srs airbag light comes on. 12+ repair attempts, almost 3 months in service (two days from now it'll have been in for a whole month this time alone) insurance carrier blames nissan for veh. Defect, nissan blames collision. I have full coverage and extended warranty you'd think somebody here would make me whole. Nissan tech's are literally "throwing parts" at the car (module, sensor, etc) with no conclusive diagnosis in 6 months and now they've torn my dashboard and car apart to replace all of the srs wiring -- but said wiring harness is on "back order" with no eta. Lemon law apparently doesn't cover me and attorneys wont touch it because of stupid inconsequently parking lot collision which does not explain suspected major component failure or suspected wiring issues safely deep inside the car/dashboard. Please explain how getting backed into destroyed wiring inside the car. This is a serious electrical/safety defect. *tr

I have a nissan altima (2011) and my sister has a nissan murano (2013?). Both cars remain running when the "smart key" is removed. My car beeps 3 times if i get out with the key when it is running, but not much notification. I have not had a problem yet, but my sister, in her 80's, has left her car running for hours frequently since she bought the murano (at least 5 times). We both keep our cars in a closed in basement and if left running could be deadly. Our bedrooms are directly over the garage. It seems like a simple timer could be used to turn the car off if the key is removed for more than 5 minutes. An over ride could be put on the option if the owner wants it to run longer for winter warm-ups or whatever. The sooner the auto complex fixes this the fewer recalls in the future. I really worry about my sister and others not as tech savvy or maybe with memory/attention issues. The incident date above is close to the date that i bought the car new, since this issue existed the day that i bought it. I was not aware of the danger until my sister repeatedly left hers running unknowingly. I'm sure that you are aware that this problem may not be nissan specific and all companies will need to fix it.
