The transverse link bolt may not have been torqued to the proper specification.   On certain vehicles, the side curtain airbag inflators may have been incorrectly manufactured and, as a result, one or both airbags may not deploy as intended. Failure of a side curtain airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted), could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace one or both side curtain airbag assemblies.

In mid-may 2021, noticed that the altima (at 105,000 mls) had little power when accelerating. At one point, pulled out from from a stop at an intersection and basically "crawled" through. Barley made it up to the top of our driveway. "check engine" light came on. Not safe to accelerate in traffic. Local aamco, and local nissan dealer, both diagnosed transmission failure. Have learned that apparently nissan knew of this problem.

I only have 96,000 miles on my vehicle and i can't accelerate. I was on the highway when this happened. It picks and chooses when it wants to accelerate and i almost caused an accident on the highway and on the inner roads. This is not safe and nissan refuses to take responsibility

Transmission lost power (reduced power) after 65000 miles. Initially i was not aware of the nissan 2012 altima having transmission issues. Now the repair rather replacement cost is about $5000 as per estimats iave approached local nissan dealerships and national customer service hot line and there has bee zero help from them. 2012 is know to have cvt transmission and its related performance and repair issues. Still that year, 2012 , nissan is not covered under warranty beyond 60k nor there is help for customers who purchased this vehicle

Pressure sensor in passenger seat connected to passenger side air bag became defective, affecting (shutting off) the entire air bag system. Started off with 'passenger air bag off' sign being illuminated at all times, even when an adult was sitting in the passenger seat. Then airbag warning light on the dashboard started flashing the entire time car was running.

It was fine so i drove off and as i was entering the freeway, i noticed the car wasn't picking up speed again. I drove to the next exit and got off. I literally coasted to a parking lot of an industrial building. After several attempts at trying to leave the parking lot, i noticed i couldn't go up the hill. I waited about 30 minutes, picked up speed and made it up the hill and onto a 2 lane road. I drove to a hotel about 4 miles away, going about 40 mph. I realized that as long as i didn't stop, i would be fine. The next morning i found a mechanic shop, called and drove there with minimal problems. He told me the year, make and model of my car had been having issues with the cvt transmission. He hooked a machine up and it gave him these codes: P0746, P0826, P1778 step motor, P0868. He told me to check for recalls. I was able to drive the car 3 hours back to my house in woodbridge.

I though the transmission went bad. I turn off the car for five minutes and started it again and i try to move the car again and it went well. After couple days or weeks i don't recall i call the dealer requesting a recall on my vehicle which they ask me how many miles it had i told them 83,000 miles and they told me i don't qualify to get the transmission replace cause it has over 80,000 miles already. It seems that nissan makes faulty cvt transmission manufactured by jatco. I wanted to know if i qualify for the recall for the transmission. When i reset the car on the freeway for five minutes it ran and hasn't happened again but it's super sluggish. The car should have a recall no matter the mileage. Forgot to mention they said i don't qualify also cause the car is salvage and it voids every recall whatsoever.

The dash on my 2012 altima has begun to melt. The dash initially started out being tacky when my son was away at college in nc, which i thought was unusual. Upon returning to fl this past summer, it got worse. Now the dash is giving off a chemical smell with a horrible glare. The glare from the windshield is making for unsafe driving conditions, especially in the fl sun. Nissan acknowledged the melting dash issue in 2008 2009 models and agreed to replace those dashes for vehicles in fl under a lawsuit settled in 2017. Looking at the complaints on the nhtsa website, it appears that the melting dash issue has continued to be a problem past the 2008 2009 model years.

I had driven about 350 miles using the cruise control i would accelerate or cancel and then accelerate with traffic this worked throughout my trip until i reached between 350 to 400 miles then it stopped working for acceleration at 75 miles an hour would not go any faster with the steering column controls or the gas pedal

On 8/17/2020 at 11:30am i was driving at approximately 15 mph when everything in my car, including the engine shut down with no warning. I quickly placed the vehicle in park and after 2 attempts my car restarted with no other problems that day. On 8/18/2020 at approximately 1750hrs after exiting the expressway, again my car shut down while driving 10-15 mph, after 2 attempts my it restarted. The car currently has 46,000 miles, i am the original owner and the car is serviced as scheduled by manufacturer. I currently have an appointment on 8/28/2020 with nissan of queen for an evaluation of this problem.

After performing the diagnostics, i was told that the airbag system was faulty and that it would cost me $1500 to repair. My question to them was: " why should i pay for the repair if the airbag is faulty?" i also said that if the airbag is faulty, it should be recalled. They informed me that there was nothing they could do because there was no recall on my vehicle. I have since checked the service and maintenance guide for my vehicle and there is nowhere in the booklet that states that the airbag is a maintenance item for the owner. The airbag is a safety item and should be recalled and repaired by the manufacturer jf it is faulty as is with my vehicle. What is frightening is that the red light is still flashing on the dashboard and i have no idea what might happen if i continue to drive this vehicle. The dash is sticky and glossy which throws a glare on my windshield. I end up with a small area of the windshield to see out of. I have to sit up tall or lean over in order to find a spot to get a clear view in order to see the road. Holding the position to see for any length of time is a strain on the body. I'm having trouble seeing where i am going and am worried i will have an accident. *tr

The engine has always made excessive noise when accelerating. I have since learned that it has been the transmission and is a common problem with the cvt transmission in nissan altimas. I feel that given the several thousand dollars it takes to fix that nissan should either put out a recall or compensate for this as it causes the driver to be stranded one the transmission does eventually fail. *tr

Nissan altima 2012 2.5s model at 115000 miles :without indication the vehicle suddenly could not shift properly when the vehicle started and rpm would go up till 4000-5000, also the vehicle could not run over 65mph: the speed was locked up while rpm kept going up till 3500-4000 i had a near miss from an severe freeway accident because of that problem and dare not drive on freeway after that. The transmission was failing and the mechanic said that the failure pattern was exactly the same as older models(03-10) of nissan altima, where the warranty is extended to 120000 miles for transmission. Cost more than 3500 to repair and all the mechanics i met would call those transmission units junk and some of them had multiple nissan altima under repair with the exact same transmission problem.

Mine is doing the same things and nissan doesn't have a way for me to check the fluids. The dealership said they can fix the problem for over $7000. I'm in the dealership right now and he says again that he can't check the fluids but that i can replace it if i want but that it might make it worse. Nissan altima 2012 s has a bug on the transmission. I have talked to a dealership lately about how i can maintain my transmission to avoid the problem he told me to change the fluid after 60k miles. Which i did right away because i was the second owner. I'm supprise at 127k miles, my transmission broken down. And all mechanics i be been to tell me is a factory issue and nissan knows it. They said the cvt transmission mostly come to fail on that nissan after you pass the 100k miles. (factory issue with that cvt technology they said). I call nissan to submit the problem, but unfortunately they told they can't do nothing about it because of the high mileage. Hello to whom it may concern, i'm posting this complaint because of an issue this vehicle has and i've heard many others are having the same issue. About an hour or two of driving the car or going up a pretty steep hill on a hot day the car looses power completely and will have trouble to go over 45mph and what i've read up on this issue the vehicle come with a sensor that makes the car go into a safety mode when the transmission gets too hot and it's due to the transmission not having a fluid cooler. I've had a couple close calls in the freeway where cars have came really close to rear ending me in the freeway with my children in the car and i fear for the safety of my as well as others and wouldn't want anyone getting sued due to an issue nissan has with their vehicle

While driving on the highway for over an hour at speeds 60+ mph the transmission will begin to whine, while at the same time the rpms will skyrocket. The car will rapidly decelerate while this is happening. This has happened multiple times on road trips when the car was at 20k miles and continues to happen more often now that the car is nearing 100k miles.

This was a used pre-certified car, purchased from the dealer in which did not have any issues until its warranty was practically no longer valid. The cars electrical system started to have issues. The issues with the electrical system started with the usb port connection to a cellular device. Sometimes the car will recognize the phone, other times i have to disconnect the usb to phone connection, turn the usb cord around and reconnect a few times for the radio to recognize the phone. After this issues, one speaker went out. Later on, a second speaker went out. I replaced both speakers to find out that it is possible the in-car amplifier blew. After this, the radio unit would at times go completely black, causing me to have to turn the car off and back on. After this, the driver side door no longer locks electronically, i have to lock and unlock driver side door manually but the passenger side does indeed work. After these issues, i noticed the check engine light had come on for a mass air flow sensor. I cleaned the sensor, and the engine light went away. About 300 miles later, it came back on and the car hesitates/bucks consistently with a loss of power once the speed hits about 60 mph. I-75 hills, i can no longer accelerate to maintain speeds. I replaced the maf sensor, check engine light is still on. I had it cleared from o'reilly's since the same code was appearing on the car. After 10 miles sitting in idle, the traction control sensor appeared. 10 miles afterwards this on i-75, the car will not climb hills, drops power, bucks and jerks the car forward and back. I stopped at a part store, turn the car off and back on. Traction control sensor goes away, engine light comes back on with same code reading. I cleaned the throttle body, check engine light is still on. I've read a lot of articles about this, no one has figured out how to fix this.

When driving on the freeway the car will drop from 70 to below 40 mph, cannot maintain a safe speed on highway. Problem is exasperated when driving up a hill. The issue is extremely dangerous. We were driving up hill in a canyon going 80 mph when we suddenly lost all power. We had only been on the road for 30 minutes before this occurred. We had to pull over and let the car sit for a minute before attempting to drive it home. It happened two more times on the way to taking it back home. *tr

Traveling west on hwy 44 started having trouble going up hills. Put pedal to the floor, and nothing extra. It was starving for fuel. Turned around to go back home, eventually stopping in sullivan mo. While going back i had to gain speed going downhill in order to make it uphill. On two occasions i had a semi rider my rear bumper even though i was in the slow lane. One time while gaining sped down hill, i had to pass the semi in front of me, or lose the speed that i had gained, so i tried to pass on left, as usual, but then the acceleration stalled once again. I then had another semi riding in rear view mirror, and was fearful of what could happen. I was eventually passed by semi on right , i got over, and then the semi on the left passed. Needless to say it was not a good situation. I have seen on-line that there is a class action suit against nissan, but no recall for the cvt's. In my opinion, this is a must. Even the guy at nissan had told me that he has heard of many stories just like this. Someone is going to get hurt/killed if nothing is done. Nissan knows of problem, hence the cooling device started in 2013 model. Even this did not fix the issue. Please force nissan to correct their error in judgment before it is too late. I bought a certified pre-owned 2012 nissan altima 2.5s sedan from university nissan in universal city, ca. Throughout its life from when i received car at around 45,000 miles, every couple thousand 5k-10k care engine engine could not accelerate quicker car would begin making engine whining noise. It was never disgnosed as a cvt problem when i would take car to nissan in warranty repair . During dealership repair enounter mass air flow sensor was replaced. "mass air flow sensor" that has been replaced multiples times throughout its life as well. Car now has a cvt problem and struggles during hot weather and worst if people are in car now.

When driving on the highway my vehicle will deaccelerate going from 70 miles to 45 miles, even though my pedal is flush to the floor. This happens sfter i have been driving for approximately 2 and 1/2 hours. I have had this checked out by auto repair and have not found a solution to this problem. When this first happened i was in the fast lane and was barely able to get over to the right shoulder. The second time i had my grandchildren with me and we were basically stranded on the side of the road 2 and a half hours from home with no way to get anywhere for help.

The power outlet in the center console had gone bad so my husband changed the fuse and as soon as i started to drive, my car started jumping and would not go over 15mph. The traction control light and check engine light had both come on. I turned the car off for about 30 seconds then cranked it again, the traction control light was off and the car drove fine. Now at random times, usually if the car is left idling, the traction control light will come back on and the same thing happens but if i turn the car off for about 30 seconds then crank it again, the light is off and the car runs fine again. The mass air flow sensor was replaced in 2017 but that is the code we keep getting when it is hooked to a computer. The transmission was also replaced in 2017, no issues with it so far... No one seems to know what is going on with my car but it's pretty scary when i'm driving with my 3 kids and the car decides to lose power, jump all over the road and only drive 15mph. This happens at least 3 times a day and since this is my primary way of transportation, i would really like to know what is causing this issue so it can be fixed and i can safely transport my children again.

Takata recall, i have a 2012 nissan altima and i purchased from a dealer in jan 2015. I believe this car must be a defective product. It's a pre-owned car. Just after driving it for 1.5yrs, i have been driving the car the transmission broken. The speed drops to 30miles/hr from 65miles/hr while i was driving on the freeway. There were cars behind me. It's so dangerous. I was lucky that the driver behind me reacted very quickly and didn't hit me. It was under the warranty so they replaced the torque converter of the transmission. However, just this past weekend i was driving uphill on a mountain road and a similar problem happened again. My car can't shift correctly and the speed drops to 25 miles/hr from 40miels/hr. Both the first time and the second time when this happens there is no signal lights on my dashboard. I went to the dealer but they said i'm out of the warranty and they may not cover the repair. I failed a claim to nissan customer service and still waiting for the response to solve this issue. They said there are no recalls of my car but i have found a lot of reports online about their transmission issues and people had experienced similar to me. Also, the steering wheel didn't work for a few times. Nissan said they care about customers' safety but i don't think they really do what they said. If they really care about our safety they should take more actions on this issue and recall the defective cars. It's very dangerous for everyone on the roads.

As i was starting to slow down in preparation of taking a turn off the frontage road my car completely shut off, my brakes and steering locked and luckily i was able to complete my turn into a gas station where i immediately put it in park and restarted via push start., 2 days later this occurred again on a fairly busy street where i repeated the steps to start it again. I am extremely scared to have this happen again on a heavily traveled street causing me to be involved in a collision , i have researched online and see other reports/complaints of the same issue i described yet do not see any recall issued regrading this extremely dangerous defect.

I have a automatic 2012 nissan altima w. 130k miles. While driving, my car automatically shifted to neutral and in order for me to stop, i had to place my emergency brakes on. The gear was stuck in between neutral and reverse and unable to move. Thought it was a shifter console, but turns out it was my transmission. In this model car, there is a class action law suit against nissan for failing cvt transmissions/engines. My failure happened while driving and could have caused a major accident. Due to the miles, i am out of warranty and i do believe that nissan should be at fault seeing that there is a suit pending.

Oil cooler leak was detected during routine oil change. Research showed this model & year has a recall already issued but there are no campaigns for this specific vin not sure if this is something you deal with or if it's a mfg issue. Not sure what steps are to report to mfg if this is a known issue.

So i purchased my car in 2014 at tony nissan waipio and had cna manufactured warranty..Which is a good warranty.But i come to realize ever since.My manufactured warranty expired in 2019, and i routinely bring my car in for oil and oil filter maintenance every 3 months, and each time i would bring it in. Mechanics and service advisors seems to find a lot of problems with my car..And ask if i wanted it to be fixed or replaced, majority of the time. I will asked if my aul warranty will cover, for the parts and labors..I would say 80 percent of my warranty covers..Some. Dont.But to make my complaint shorter ..Each time i would bring it in to tony nissan for a repair..Not even 3 months after, another problems.Come about..At this time i'm getting very scared and afraid for my safety in driving my car.Especially.When i have my 6 year old grandson that i pick up from school..And i'm beginning to not have faith in them and i'm really having trust issues, with either the mechanics or service advisors..At tony nissan .I can show proofs of documents that i have all my invoices dated from 2014 until now of 2020..Of all services and repairs they have claimed they doned on my car..Just recently i asked for my old parts back, to see if they got it replaced..Throttle body assembly and ignition coil #3..My upcoming repair will be alternator and drive belt..I will be taking my car in either 02/25/2020 or 02/26/2020..In the afternoon.Thank you very much, for the help and concerns.Please reply back to me if my car was sold to me as a lemon or any recalls..I've be glad to express my concerns to the president of that company..But i always get talked to the other staffs that works for him...

So i purchased my car in 2014 at tony nissan waipio and had cna manufactured warranty..Which is a good warranty.But i come to realize ever since.My manufactured warranty expired in 2019, and i routinely bring my car in for oil and oil filter maintenance every 3 months, and each time i would bring it in. Mechanics and service advisors seems to find a lot of problems with my car..And ask if i wanted it to be fixed or replaced, majority of the time. I will asked if my aul warranty will cover, for the parts and labors..I would say 80 percent of my warranty covers..Some. Dont.But to make my complaint shorter ..Each time i would bring it in to tony nissan for a repair..Not even 3 months after, another problems.Come about..At this time i'm getting very scared and afraid for my safety in driving my car.Especially.When i have my 6 year old grandson that i pick up from school..And i'm beginning to not have faith in them and i'm really having trust issues, with either the mechanics or service advisors..At tony nissan .I can show proofs of documents that i have all my invoices dated from 2014 until now of 2020..Of all services and repairs they have claimed they doned on my car..Just recently i asked for my old parts back, to see if they got it replaced..Throttle body assembly and ignition coil #3..My upcoming repair will be alternator and drive belt..I will be taking my car in either 02/25/2020 or 02/26/2020..In the afternoon.Thank you very much, for the help and concerns.Please reply back to me if my car was sold to me as a lemon or any recalls..I've be glad to express my concerns to the president of that company..But i always get talked to the other staffs that works for him...

My vehicle when driving will not throttle correctly so i have to pull over on the road and turn the car off and than turn it back on. After turning the car back on i would rub the engine to make sure it would throttle pass 3. Lately though my car has been turning off while driving which is a big safety for my self and other drivers. Because i have to turn the car of and on quickly especially if im on the freeway.

The vehicles engine is burning oil very rapidly and when i spoke with several mechanics to get a other opinions, and i was told it is a common problem with this vehicle. The dashboard is also very sticky and is melting was told that that happens to the vehicles as well.

Vehicle did feel a bit sluggish on first test drive. Checked fluid levels and found oil level a bit low. Also noticed drives floor mat tucked under gas pedal. Removed floor mat and test drove again. Vehicles acceleration feels normal. Went to steep hill to duplicate customers concern. Could not verify customers concern. Again, correction: replaced both cam position sensors as well as the crank position sensor. Cleared all dtcs and test drove vehicle no dtcs returned. Vehicle drives fine with no issues.

I purchased the 2012 nissan in 2015 with only 22,000 and something miles. Once the car got to about 76,000 something miles a whining noise started. So now with the car at only 83,074 miles the transmission isn't getting any power. So i turn to read reviews and talk to people only to find out the cvt's aren't worth anything and to get them replaced the price is ridiculous and i can't afford it. But you would think with all the complaints about it nissan would do something about it. I would not tell anyone to purchase a nissan ever. Takata recall my 2012 altima has been having some shifting issues while i am driving. Mind you this call has 58,000 miles on it (yes 2012 with 58,000). It is over the 5 year power train warranty but under the mileage. Nissan does not care. There should be zero reasons why a car with less than 60,000 miles should be having any type of transmission issues. Nissan needs to be held accountable.

One 2 separate occasions my vehicle has completely shut down without warning. The first time was while i was sitting a red, the second time i was actually driving through traffic and the car lost all power i without any warning. The first time it happened it took about a hour before the car would start again, luckily the second time it happened i was able to start the car within a few minutes. I have read a few stories and complaints on car gurus that other nissan owners are having the same issues with their vehicle. I truly feel unsafe in this vehicle and this matter needs to be looked into immediately before someone gets seriously injured. It is only a matter of time.

I am having the same problem with my 2012 nissan altima went to my mechanic and gave me a code of P1778, he told me nissan transmissions have a specific problem with their step motors and that nissan is supposed to fix them for free. I called nissan and they are refusing to fix it when they know their transmissions are not good because they're a lot of people with this same problem. Was driving on the interstate using cruise control at 70mph. The rpms suddenly increased to around 6,000. After that happened, the service engine light came on and i had trouble accelerating and the rpms were never able to get over 3,000, even with the gas pedal pressed all the way. It was difficult to get any acceleration and the car would make a whining noise whenever pressing on the gas.

Nhtsa team, i am filing this safety complaint regarding my daughters 2012 nissan altima. Her vehicle has 94,000 miles on it, and the cvt is acting up. This year, the vehicle's cvt has gone into the fail-safe mode at least three (3) times while on interstate trips. Each time it was during hot weather (she lives in south carolina) and caused her to run very slowly on the interstate. This created an unsafe and hazardous condition. Complete loss of power climbing a steep grade uphill, almost caused accident sandwiched between two 18 wheelers also going uphill one of which had to swerve sharply to avoid hitting us. Cvt transmission likely went into fail-safe mode, same thing repeated multiple times on steep winding climbs on mountain highways. Very dangerous situation with engine cutting out and loss of power. Nissan has issued cvt recalls and extended warranty on models up to 2010 but the problem is still there in this 2012 altima and in many other complaints about the cvt on later models. Nhtsa should get nissan to extend its recall/warranty to models after 2010 judging by the many complaints being reported about the same loss of power issue with the cvt.

I have a 2012 nissan altima. I have already replaced the transmission once last year when the car had 80,000 miles on it. The transmission went when traveling on a long trip, after a hours when going approx 65 mph and trying the car failed to acccelerate. The car then would not go over 40 mph. This was a very dangerous situation asthere was a tractor trailer behind me, which forced him to slam on breaks. Very dangerous and scarey situation for all involved. Initially experienced loss of power around 30,000 miles while going 80 mph on interstate. Extremely dangerous situation as the only option is to pull off to the side of the road. Took it to dealer but they couldn't replicate or find anything wrong. Vehicle continued to randomly lose power while at high rates of speed, as well as a loud whining and humming sound. Took to dealership 8 different times and still couldn't find anything. Was told if a check engine light came on that would help locate issue. Check engine came on during loss of power issue, and dealership still told me couldn't pinpoint problem. The most recent loss of power in june 2018, i was nearly struck from behind by a semi truck travelling at a high rate of speed because there is no warning for the loss of power and there was no where to pull off to. Still an ongoing issue, and nissan refuses to acknowledge the problem or do anything to assist.

My car started making a whining noise while driving it. Going up the hill my car on a highway in the desert when the speed declined it's from 70mph to 45mph, which i tried to accelerate and it was stuck on 45mph, and almost caused the car behind me to crash into me with my three young children in the back seat. My dashboard appears to be melting and is sticky to the touch. I have contacted nissan they show no concern as to the dash board melting or any resolve to remedy the issue. It causes a bad glare especially when driving into the sunlight. I feel this is a manufacturer defect in materials.

There is a cvt and cvt coolant issue in this make model and year and there was a recall for this vehicle of prior years with the same issue and nissan will not replace it. It makes the car sluggish and go very slow uphill. It is not a defective cvt but the cvt in the original model. We bought this car used so we may have gone to try to get the recall for this vehicle earlier but nissan is saying they won't honor the recall now because it has expired.

Vehicle was in motion on the highway and after two and half hours of driving could not accelerate past 45-50 miles an hour and stuck on this speed even with the gas pedal being pressed down to accelerate. I had serious safety issues with this on the highway in regards to ascending hills and had near serious encounters with trucks and other vehicles on all incidents i have had to drive more than that duration. I am on a website called cargurus and have a lot of nissan 2012 altima owners with the same year, make and model having exactly the same terrifying experience. I have called nissan about this and that they should do a qa of their call logs and check other complaints from other customers and all they could say is "there is currently no recall on your vin". Informed them about medicine after death not possible and problems like this with frequent complaints by customers should be investigated and not ignored till people start dying before there is a need to fix this or issue a recall. The gear box and cv axle based on what i have read may be the cause of this. I am not a technician but this is a very serious safety issue that should be investigated. Every time you are in a car on the highway on long distance journey with this car your life is on a live wire because of this gear box issue. While driving, or wanting to drive after coming to a stop, the engine rpms will increase when the accelerator is pressed (up to red line), but the car transmission does not respond until, suddenly, the car lunges forward. This can happen from a cold start, at a traffic light, after a quick stop at a business while the vehicle is still warm, etc.

When driving in warm weather for 1.5 hours or more cvt transmission loses power and makes a whining noise. This is a known issue regarding these transmissions and nissan extended warranty on vehicles up to 2010 because of it. Transmission says it is overheating and puts itself into "safe mode" thereby losing all power and ability to accelerate on hills, etc. I was almost rear ended due to the sudden loss of power and acceleration.

Now i am having to replace a transmission that's going to cost me 4,000.00. I researched transmission issues on the internet and a lot of people are having the same issues. Going up a hill the car would whine or when i try to accelerate. The car started to jerk upon pulling off and would not accelerate until i let off the brake then tried to accelerate again.

My transmission had to be replaced at 112,000miles in sept 2017. Now today i find out that i may potentially have transmission issues again, date being (3/14/2018). Codes are : bcm; transmissions fault 4; ipdm e/r fault 3. This is ridiculous, i will be taking it into fort worth nissan on saturday 3/17/2018 to determine if it is failing again, it being only 9,000 miles later.

My car is in excellent condition. Just under 7 years old and my transmission has to be replaced. The transmission began slipping and rpm 's were high when i was driving on the highway.

The seal on the oil cooler of my vehicle has failed and nissan won't repair it. I have researched this and i have found that this problem is common on my vehicle. The problem has been going on for awhile and i have explored options to repair it and have failed discussions with nissan a few times because i refuse to pay a nissan dealership mechanic to look at the vehicle when a mechanic i trust has already done so. The date i put in for when it happened is only an estimate, but my car has had this problem for at least a year. I just thought of contacting the nhtsa about it after researching this online. This has caused oil to leak out from the oil cooler according to the mechanic who looked at it and that happens all the time, but it hasn't been severe to the point where i have to constantly put oil in the car.

Takata recall. I was traveling on the interstate, in heavy traffic, when my car began to slow it refused to maintain my speed or accelerate at all. I had to pull into the median to avoid being hit by an 18 wheeler. I had my sister and two of our little kids in the car with me. This is not the only time it has done this it has done it several times now and the mechanics can't find anything wrong. I have read several places where others have had this same issue.... I believe their is a manufacturer default with either the acceleration or transmission.... It just revs up sounds like it's doing something but not increasing speed. I have noticed that it occurs mostly after i have been traveling a while...Like about an hour and a half or so

While driving on highway doing speed 70 to 80mph, vehicle begins to reduce speed and goes into like a safe mode. Very unsafe on interstate highway. While searching on google find out cvt transmission vechile only has 81823 miles on it. Nissan needs to cover the warranty to fix the vechile.

Vehicle just lost all power while driving on a busy highway. No power at all, almost tail ended by another vehicle that swirled into emergency lane to avoid hitting me. Unable to use hazard lights, as there was no power to the car. Luckily i had a portable jumper and had to exit my car and stand in front of vehicle with hood up, unable to see traffic coming and very scared of getting hit because i had no hazard lights. Vehicle finally started and would barely accelerate, i was able to make it to work. I live over an hour from work and now i'm scared to drive home on the interstate. There are numerous posts about this, i found while trying to find out what happened, several others have been in near miss accidents due to the exact same reason and have reported this but nissan is making no effort to find and fix the problem. I could have been hurt badly having this happen where it did and i am notifying whoever is necessary about this situation, because if something happens to me while driving my car and it's related to this issue that nissan is aware of, my family will be suing along with many others i'm sure. I had no power, no steering, no control at all

My work involves driving children and nissan's failure to address this issue is about to cost me a job and it endangers any children who are able to open the door due to this malfunction. O hills and on warm days the car losses power and wont go over 60 mph this happened on the highway and almost cuased a wreck. This has happened several times. Engine light came on and the code said it was low on fluid. It was checked and was good.

Flashing seatbelt sign relating to passenger side. Also when it rains both front and back doors are fill with water. When driving water can be heard swooshing. Afterward to relieve the noise, i have to pick up the rubber at the base of the doors and water will ran out.

The wiper blades suddenly stopped working during a heavy downpour. My son was driving on the interstate at the time and attempted to get off on a side road as he had very limited visibility which resulted in a head on collision with another vehicle coming in the opposite direction on the side road.

The vehicle's doors stopped locking and unlocking properly. It has been found that all 4 door locks have the same issue, where they lock sometimes and at other times, they don't. The alarm system is doing strange things, also. By that, i mean there will be times when i press the door button and hear the double-beep, instead of the single-beep that would unlock the button. As i open the door, i expect the alarm to go off, as i assume the alarm system believes the door is now locked. However, the door will open, the alarm won't go off, then the warning beeps will sound as the door is closed, making the beeping warning sound associated with attempting to lock the vehicle with your keys still inside. This is clearly a factory issue for nissan, but it is a safety concern, as the lock is an added measure of security for kids and safety within a vehicle. If my wife would ever feel the need to hit the locks, for whatever reason she encounters, we can't know for sure they will operate properly.

I hit a deer head on@ 40 mph, the airbag did not deploy

While in motion, the vehicle begins to drasticly slow down from speeds of 60 to 70 mph down to 20 to 30 mph. This usually happens during the day after driving for an hour + and in any kind of incline road. At hard inclines i can bearly drive upward even hhaving to come to a complete stop. The rpm gage begins to jump rapidly to 5 and 6 rpm when even slightly pressing the gas peddle, and once it adjust , the vehicle will not go more that 3 rpm while still at a mph slower than 30. This will stay for the remainder of the drive until i have stopped and turned my vehicle off for a significant amount of time. Tbis began happening at 100,000 miles and now at 150,000 miles it happens very frequently. I feel this is unacceptable, and clearly very unsafe for driving long distances on large highways, when my vehicle should work as it should.

While pulling into a parking place at a restaurant all of a sudden my wife heard a loud noise and surge from the engine propelling the car forward and over an embankment fortunately for a few trees and god's help my wife is thankfully still alive the embankment had approximately 100' drop this has never happened before the sound coming from the engine she still hears, not sure once the car is fixed if we buy another nissan altima or even continue to drive this one, something caused this car to surge and it definitely was not her foot,

My 2012 altima 2.5s has shut down transmission wise(cvt) and it will not speed up even when gas pedal is all the way to the floor! Today it did this for a total of 120 miles...This is a safety issue when you cant get your car out of the way of even get to the shoulder because nothing happens when the gas is pushed down...I barely made it home today with of course a torrential downpour and my car wouldnt respond...I googled "2012 altima will not speed up going uphill" what i found are too many complaints with the same exact problem and nissan does nothing about it...Whats it going to take? Someone getting killed which is what it usually takes to get something positive done? Nissan needs to do a recall on this immediately..

The contact called the manufacturer and a case was opened. The contact was advised to take the vehicle back to vidalia nissan. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where pictures of the dashboard were taken to provide to the person who was assisting with the case. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer agreed to pay fifty percent of the repair cost. The approximate failure mileage was 75,071.

The 2012 nissan altima coupe 3.5 6 speed manual transmission was in motion on a city street when sudden loss of clutch pressure occurred. This resulted in the inability to change gears and therefore effectively control the speed of the vehicle outside minimum and maximum speed specifications for the given gear. This was the result of a faulty concentric clutch slave cylinder.

Sustained driving more than an hour the transmission overheats and forces sensor to "fail safe mode" causing vehicle to drive only at low speed. This is a safety issue on the open road due to driving way under posted speed or having to stop n road side.

Accelerator pedal came off mount while driving, no bolts holding pedal in place. I had to bend down to adjust pedal while driving on the interstate to get safety off the road. I am not aware of any notification of a recall to the defect. I took my car to the nissan dealership in huntsville to have the car inspected and repaired. The service department found no bolts on the pedal assembly. I was charged $59.94 for the service and repair. On a related note...Ironically i took care of a patient in the er last week who was in an accident involving their nissan 2006 vehicle. While turning into their driveway, the accelerator stuck and the car jetted forward and ran into their tree. Their child, sitting in the backseat, restrained, struck her head on the side window and suffered a laceration to her temple region that required suturing. I gave the patient's mother this website to follow up with her complaint.

While driving on a highway at 75mph, my car just stopped going. I decelerated very quickly. I was pressing gas pedal to the floor and car would not increase speed. It just would not go. The rpms went over 3,000. No check engine light came on. I didn't even have any warning in the days leading up to this event that this would happen. There were a lot of vehicles on road at that particular time and a truck happened to be driving behind me. The truck and other vehicles were all swerving on either side of me to get out of my lane and as a result, i could not get my vehicle off of the road until they all passed. As i kept coasting along waiting for opportunity to pull over to side of road, i kept pressing gas pedal. Eventually that worked and i began to pick up speed again, but my car was accelerating very slowly. I drove to exit and got off of highway. I waited about an hour before returning home same way. On drive home accelerating was slow and rpms were erractic. There was also a whining noise when i gave car gas. This happened once more. I no longer drive car on highway so i haven't experienced it stopping while driving, but it still whines, accelerates slowly, and rpms are erratic. Vehicle has been parked at service department at dealership. My car only has 108,000 miles on it. I've never missed any scheduled maintenance which dealership performed majority of it. The warranty was only covered up to 60,000 miles. Now i'm told that at 108,000 miles, i need a new tcc, valve body, and solenoids.

After driving vehicle for 1 hour or more, vehicle goes into fail-safe mode, meaning the rpms will not go over 2500. So, if one is on the highway going 70 mph, then arrives at a hill, then the vehicle speed could decrease to 40 mph. According to mechanic, this is a known issue and nissan has a service kit for this exact issue. I am not sure why it is not a recall...

Enigine/transmission issues on our way out of town, not 45 minutes into our trip and without warning the car goes from 65 miles to less. The car will not accelerate. With a two lane highway and trucks behind us. I am very concerned of getting stranded in the desert, killed or severely injured. This is not the first time. It's occurred numerous times. Our dealer peoria nissan in az said, they could not find anything wrong even after we insisted. Something's wrong, i swear it's a faulty transmission issue.

In warm weather, car consistently goes into limp mode. It will only achieve speeds of around 30mph even though rpms are accelerating. I have to stop the car and wait for 20 minutes in order to drive it again. Doesn't seem to happen when outdoor temperatures are cooler. This has been happening for several months and is apparently a well-documented issue with other nissan altima owners.

I have 78k miles and my car is loosing power when i am driving. Looses power after sitting at a light, while driving the car bucks as if its getting stuck in it's gears and when i get up to a certain speed the car makes a squealing noise.

1st incident: driving on hwy 5 in ca on a hot day at freeway speed car suddenly lost power and dropped below 30 mph. Pulled off of hwy and shut vehicle off for about 30 minutes and no longer experienced this issue. 2nd incident: driving on interstate 80 in ca in 95-100 degree weather. Got off freeway and car lost power again this time not going over 5 mph. Took vehicle to nissan dealer for diagnostics. They said they could not replicate problem when driving but "mileage in" was the same as "mileage out" which tells me they didn't drive very far if at all. They put it on diagnostic machine and got a code saying "cvt a at 4" and "cvt b at 7" cvt has been overheated. Recommend replace valve body and install external cooler for concern. I've read many complaints about same issue with nissan cvt transmission.

My vehicle is 5 years old and i have had to replace the radiator and now the transmission. There are over 700 complaints of this same issue with the nhtsa and consumer affairs. I have taken my vehicle into the dealer twice for this issue and this ongoing issue is going to hurt or even kill someone. Nissan is fully aware of the cvt issues and this needs to be resolved. This recently happened this past weekend (2nd time now). We traveled maybe 35 miles, when the transmission started to whine just before we reached the exit, i was unable to accelerate. No lights, no warnings, nothing stating there was an issue. My car had to be towed to a local auto shop, where they stated they could not address the problem as it is most likely the transmission. It was then, again towed to the dealer. Ken garff nissan. Where i was told that my 5 year old car needs a new transmission! A year to date i had to replace my radiator, water pump, serpentine belt ect! This is not okay and not acceptable. Should i have had my daughter in the car and lost acceleration on the freeway, i cant event fathom. This issue transmission defect has substantially impaired the use, market value and most of all the safety of the vehicle. My family is worth more than this defective vehicle. The dealership has been more than helpful and they agreed a 5 year old car should not be having all these issues. I am asking that nissan do the right thing and fix this problem and care about the consumer. I truly want to believe that nissan cares about their consumers and i really hope that they review this complaint and act upon it, doing the right thing and recall these engines. I was blown away by how many nissan owners experienced the same issue and filed complaints with the bbb, carguru, nissan and consumer affairs. Please, have this looked into. I know nissan is fully aware and this needs to be corrected.

The dashboard is completely melting and it is getting sticky and dangerous to drive. It produces a glare and it obstructs the view. The glare is stopping me from seeing the cars and objects in front of me. It is extremely dangerous.

Car stopped accelerating, found out the tranny was bad. Nissan wont replace or compensate. Nissan dealer expects me to pay 4000 out of pocket for a brand new transmission. Car is only 6 years old. Whining up hill and no drive down hill, when heated up transmission will not go until cooled off

At 1500-1800 rpms there is a vibration coming from the front end of my car. I took the car to my mechanic who informed me that my call was under recall for a throttle body issue and i should take it to nissan. Nissan claimed that they could only repair my vehicle if the vin# is in the system, which it wasn't. However, i am experiencing the same throttle body issues as all other nissan altima's made during the same timeframe.

The rpm gauge began to rise ant the car began to decrease it's speed eventually descending to 20 mph while the rpm gauge fluctuated from 2k to 5k rpm. The gas pedal was non responsive except for a louder whining noise as it was pressed . We pulled over for a while and the vehicle went to normal. This exact same issue happened 2 more times before we arrived home. The dealer responded stating a new transmission was needed but not covered they said my warranty was not valid. I complained, they contacted headquarters i guess and stated to me because the car was under 70k miles the company would pay partial for the repair but my out of pocket expenses would have been about 1200. Not only did i think this was unfair but i also didn't have an extra 1200 lyng around. So unfortunately i've been dealing with this issue for years car drives fine for about 40 min. When the car is at 75mph, it loses speen and the rpm goes up and it slows down when you stop the car and wait for an hour or more, it will go back to normal for a while it happens after and hour or long trips.

Driving down fl. I75 did not have power to pass another vehicle. Push the gas pedal several tines no power. No warning lights on dash. After sever miles safely got off i75. Found out cvt over heated and shut engine down. Nissan waiting for some one to get killed. Is that what nissan is waiting for? There is a fix for over heating cvts. Is nhtsa going to sit on there butt or do something about it. This is an on going thing with nissan.

After driving for about two hours on a trip the cvt transmission stops accelerating and you slow to a crawl which is very dangerous if your in heavy traffic was almost killed by a big rig who couldn't slow down in time

When i first bought it i heard a whistling sound and was told it was nothing. I travel a lot and while on the interstate i went from going 75 mph to 30 and it wouldn't accelerate. I would pull over and wait about 10 minutes until i could accelerate. Initially i thought it was the fuel line so i put fuel injector in it and it a couple days later it happened while i was on the interstate again. This has happened to me at least 5 times. I can't even drive it on the interstate. After taking it to the multiple mechanics i was told that it was the transmission and it will need to be replaced.

Just purchased this vehicle used and noticed on the test drive the passenger seat airbag light was lit up indicating it was off, even though someone was in the seat. Brought it to their attention, 5 minutes later they brought it back claiming it needed reset due to a sensor having something to do with a carseat. The light wasn't on with a passenger so i assumed it was fine. Now the light briefly illuminates at start up, but stays off regardless of whether or not someone is in the seat. I have seen about 20 other complaints on this issue and it is very unsafe, i now have zero faith that the airbag will even deploy. Needs to be recalled!!

I just recently replaced the battery in my 2012 nissan altima and now i am having the following problems: gauge cluster is not working at all (engine temp, rpm, speedometer, gas). Everything else is working fine. I had all the fuses checked and all are working properly. I took to dealer, they are saying replace instrument cluster, program and retest for bcm failure(2 concerns-inst cluster no comm, power and ground present, U1000 and can system diag failed cluster can not get mileage) retest for bcm failure after install cluster is replaced (2nd concern is car is hard to turn on and off need to replace cluster and retest for possible bcm failure. My car was fine 1 week ago and passed the state safety inspection on 03/25/2017 at a certified inspection place. I have proof of all those copies it is truly manufacture ( nissan ) problem with kind of vehicle manufacturing practice. I would never buy another nissan in my life.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: 27162570 and informed the contact that at the time the manufacturer used a different air bag than the air bags on recall. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

In addition, while driving various speeds, the vehicle would not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact was able to place the vehicle in park to stop. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,090.

Driving at highway speeds car engine suddenly revved to approx. 5000 rpm. Pulled over and upon accelerating again the car would drive but the engine revved very high and the cvt wouldn't change gear ratios ("shift") as it normally does. Realized car would accelerate and not rev as high if i accelerated extremely slowly. Car however is extremely dangerous to drive at this point. Also couldn't drive above 55 mph without the engine revving very high approaching redline. After approx 5 more miles of driving the "service engine" light came on and i scanned the code. Showing code P1778 which appears to be a stepper motor problem with the cvt. Called dealer and sounds like they don't fix cvt, just replace for between $4000-$5000. Very disappointed nissan hasn't resolved these problems yet and that they treat a $5000 part as a replacement item and not one that can be fixed.

I was driving my car down the road heading to get something to eat. It was a sunday night, it just started misting rain. I drove on my usual curvy 2 lane paved highway and then proceed onto my usual 4 lane paved highway to mcdonald's where i got food inside and then upon leaving decided to go through drive through for another item. I left and headed approximately 3 miles back on the same road i traveled to town on. As i was on the 2 lane ithe all of a sudden appeared to be raining heavier and i could tell by the rain crossing over my headlights. Something different than normal caught my eye, it looked like orange rain, i assumed just the appearance from one of the bulbs. Unsure though, i continued driving but scooted to the edge of my seat and set up tall to getta better look, at that time i seen flames. The car was on fire, i couldn't pull off side of road as it has no ditches just ravines so i slowed down and tried unlocking my door to open it wouldn't and my window wouldn't roll down, terrified i proceeded to call 911 and inform them my car was on fire and i was in it driving down the road and was hoping to get to next road i knew i could pull off. The entire time never did anything warning lights or gauges come on nor did the temperature rise. I finally was able to exist the car fully engulfed in flames. The police department and fire department finally arrived. Theyou got it put out but it was complete loss. I have no idea as to why this fire happened i took well care of my car, maintaining it regularly as recommended and always cautiously driving it. I have another nissan altima that's still running strong with 300,000.00 miles on it, so this should show i care for my vehicles above what's recommended.

After i have been driving my car for 45 min on the freeway going around 70-85 mph the car loses power and almost feels like it is going to stall. Once i was off the freeway at the intersection when i accelerated my car would barely move. This seems like a huge safety issue. I have heard of others almost being rear ended because of this same issue. They say its due to the transmission overheating and going into safe mode in hot temperatures. My vehicle was doing this when it was 65 degrees outside. I think since this seems to be a common problem and with the safety being a concern nissan should do something about it.

Driving vehicle at time of transmission failure. Have a 2012 nissan 2.5l altima with recent extended warranty that just expired. (of course). I have been dealing with the car and its hesitation and chugging issues since october 2015. I brought car into the dealership and on three separate occasions concerned about the performance of the vehicle. First time in shop i was told that the scope showed no warning codes and recommendation was to complete the 100,000 mile maintenance of flushing transmission and spark plug replacement, which was done and car seems to ruin ok... For a few days. Then same issues. We took a trip to colorado from minnesota and the problem with hesitation and chugging with automatic gear shifting. I took the car back in and again in december with technician now driving the car was told nothing was showing up. Car continued to get worse with now no acceleration, so i took it in a week ago when the car was showing alot more signs of something wrong, and technician drove with me in the car and stated to service manager that he didn't experience anything that indicated an issue. The next day, of course on a saturday, the car would not go over 5 miles an hour and created almost a massive accident on local city street. I immediately took it in to the dealership and was finally given the news (which i knew all the time) that codes where indicating a transmission failure and unfortunately was in need of a new transmission! Cost $3,900 and some change!!! That's when i started researching and saw this problem dated back to 2008 with nissan products. Nissan did settle on a class action suit by providing car owners an extended warranty, yet knowingly, they continued to manufacture cars with the same transmission! I am outraged that dealers continue to sell these cars.

The airbag light on the dash came on and the airbag light doesn't go on or off regardless of if someone is in the passenger seat. In june 2016, the dealership recalibrated the system and the issue went away. Three months later, the light is back on and the dealer said the code says its a passenger sear sensor issue that requires the seat to be replaced for $850. Nissan refused to cover this issue.

All three passenger door lock actuators are failing. The problem occurs when the vehicle is stationary, with the engine and accessories off. When i activate the lock with the button on the outside of the driver's door, one or more doors sometimes fail to lock or unlock. The problem seems to happen more often in cold weather. The problem may happen less often when i use the remote fob to lock/unlock the doors. If the car thinks it is locked, and i open an unlocked passenger door, the alarm activates. This makes it very inconvenient for me to manually check that all of my doors are locked. If my car does not lock, my personal effects are at risk of theft. As a safety concern, if my car is not secured, i am at greater risk of being car-jacked.

When i was driving my nissan altima 2012 car on i-635 in dallas at 2 pm cst at around 65 mph speed, i heard huge explosion sound on top of my head. I turned on the hazard light and slowed down the car and pulled over to a shoulder and checked the car. Sunroof glass was exploded and i have seen a 4 inch diameter hole and scatter glass pieces; rest of the glass was also broken/cracked. There was no vehicle at the time the incident occurred and it was not due to the external forces, it was due to internal pressure between the glass and visor. I was so scared when the glass exploded but luckily escaped from the bodily injuries. The sunroof glass on the nissan altima 2012 is for sure defective product. Please investigate and save the lives of the drivers. I'm not expecting any financial compensation from nissan or anybody.
