Equipped roller Rocker Arms
Built with a V6 and V8 engines with roller rockers, (push rod engines only)
This PI was superseded to update Model Years. Please discard PIP5226.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
Technician may find needle bearings in the oil pan during an oil change
Recommendation/Instructions
If a dealer finds roller rocker arm needle bearings during an oil change, inspect all the roller rockerarms.
If a damaged rocker arm is found, only replace the broken roller rocker arm.
Replacement of the remaining roller rocker arms is not necessary.
During the repair needle bearings may also be found in cylinder head oil drains or oil pan.
Be sure to clean the oil drains to retrieve the needle bearings.
There should be 66 bearings 33 a side, and again, replacement of the remaining roller rocker arms isnot necessary.
Please Note: The diameter of the needle bearing is larger than the oil pump pickup screen meshpreventing the needle bearing from being pulled into the engine
oil pump.

The correction for this concern may be one of several repairs described above. For vehicles repairedunder warranty, please use the appropriate warranty labor
operation based on the actual cause and repair.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the
remaining steps do not need to be performed.
