• Recall 78304 [USA]: The loss of stop lamps and rear hazard lamps could fail to warn a following driver that the vehicle is braking and/or is stopped and could result in a crash.
  General motors is recalling 5,862 my 2000-2002 chevrolet blazer, my 2000-2001 gmc jimmy, and my 2000 oldsmobile bravada sport utility vehicles. The multifunction switch could develop an open circuit condition that results in the stop lamps and the rear hazard lamps becoming inoperative. The center high mounted stop lamp and turn signal functions are not affected.
  dealers will replace the hazard switch carrier. The recall began on june 17, 2008. • Recall 6098 [USA]: In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained.
  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, sport utility vehicles, and mini vans equipped with trw seat belt buckle assemblies. The buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, "seat belt assemblies."
  dealers will inspect the vehicle's safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any safety belt buckle assembly.

• Recall 8998 [USA]: If this occurred, the seating seal could be broken during vehicle assembly, or from early road inputs or brake fluid cycling, and a leak could occur increasing the brake stopping distance.
  Vehicle description: s -trucks equipped with 2 wheel drive. These vehicles may have had the right-hand antilock brake system (abs) module feed pipe and/or brake crossover pipe tube nuts tightened without seating the pipe-flared-ends enough to withstand normal assembly and vehicle inputs without partially unseating. This does not comply with requirements of fmvss no. 105, "hydraulic service brake normal, emergency, and park braking performance."
  dealers will inspect the brake pipe union for signs of brake fluid, and if necessary, install a new brake pipe union.

  On certain vehicles, the multifunction switch may develop an open circuit condition with the bottom contact of the hazard switch, causing the stop lamps and the hazard lamps to become inoperable (the center high mounted stop lamp and turn signal functions are not affected). The loss of stop lamp and rear hazard lamp function could fail to warn a following driver that the vehicle is braking and/or is stopped, which could result in a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace either the hazard warning switch, or the multifunction switch assembly. Note: this campaign expands the population of recall 2001285.

  Certain vehicles do not comply with the requirements of c.M.V.S.S. 209 - seat belt assemblies. Vehicles may have seat belt assemblies that will not withstand the force requirements of the standard. In a crash, if the belt buckle fails, there is an increased risk of injury to the occupant. Correction: suspect buckle assemblies will be replaced.

  Certain vehicles may have incorrect payload information on the vehicle certification label. The payload shown on the label is greater than the maximum validated payload. If the vehicle is loaded to the incorrectly labeled payload, it may not ride and handle in the manner expected by the operator and could lead to loss of vehicle control and and/or an inability to stop the vehicle within expected stopping distances. Correction: dealers will install a new label, directing operators to their owner's manual for payload information.

• Hazard light switch failure investigation # RQ08001

  On november 30, 2001, general motors (gm) conducted safety recall 01v-364 for the subject vehicles built between september 16, 1999 and august 28, 2001 to remedy a defective hazard switch that would cause a loss of hazard and stop lamp illumination.The hazard switch is contained within the vehicle multifunction switch.Odi opened this investigation based on reports that some consumers were not notified of the original recall or that they had repairs done under 01v-364 but experienced subsequent multifunction switch failures.The multifunction switch supports the operation of cruise control, windshield wipers, exterior lighting and turn signals in addition to hazard and stop lamps. On may 21, 2008, gm notified the agency that it erroneously missed identifying 5,862 vehicles that should have been included in recall 01v-364.Gm will now notify owners of these vehicles under a new nhtsa recall number 08v-231.Owner notification began on june 17.The primary cause of brake lamp failure was a design change from copper to brass contact material in the hazard switch.This change was effective for vehicles built after september 16, 1999.Gm changed the material back to copper for vehicles built after august 28, 2001. The remedy part for both 01v-364 and 08v-231 contains copper contacts.Gms data shows that less than 1% of vehicles repaired under recall 01v-364 required additional subsequent repair or replacement of the hazard or multifunction switch.This investigation is closed.

I was just driving down the street and my door flew open.

The engine shuts off while you are driving.. Amp meter needle drops to zero. And the engine shuts off. We have replaced battery, and alternator twice.Dealership can"t fix it. It is dangerous to drive but it is all we have.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 gmc jimmy. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to complete a turn while utilizing the turn signals, the contact heard an abnormal noise after the turn would be completed although the turn signal was still engaged. The contact stated that he was an independent mechanic, and diagnosed that the vehicles multi function switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v231000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving at night and my headlights (which are automatic type using a light sensor) went out for a few seconds without me doing anything. After a few seconds they came back on. They did it a 2nd time for a shorter time period on the same drive and have flashed off for a few seconds temporarily on a few nights since then. The interior dash/switch lighting inside the car does not go out, just the headlamps. *tr

This happens a lot. I was backing up out of my sister's driveway and when i hit the brakes there was a crunching feeling under my foot along with a weird sound like, "doing" at the end. I could not stop fast enough and ran into her brother in laws hitch on his truck with my right rear corner bumper cover. (if that's what it's called? Maybe fascia?) it didn't hurt his truck at all, but it sure busted up that corner piece real good on my jimmy. It's been scary a few times since! I have had the brakes bled, and new brake pads installed, and it's still doing it! Also, the abs light is on most of the time. When it's off is when this problem occurs. So i get a little panicky when that light goes off, although i'm pretty sure it shouldn't be on to begin with? I don't know what else to do about this except to contact someone about it. I read somewhere that this abs issues is from a problem with a sensor something or other gets corroded and has been recalled. Is this true? P.S. I have noticed the abs light goes off when it's rainy, sometimes when it's snowy, and usually when you first get in the vehicle to go somewhere, if that helps. *js

The car was running on south hi 35, before arrive to 51th st, austin, texas. It was friday, around 10:30, we were in the middle lane going to a medical appointment, when the car stop working, the engine went off. We were two in the car, and we were scare. Thanks god was in the morning, not rush hour, but hi 35 is always busy. We were lucky and found an space between the cars. We just park the car close the exit to go to 51th, but the safety truck which help on hi 35, parked behind us, so it protected us until the tow truck came for us, one and a half hour later. *tr

My wife started the car and the red brakes warning light was on. She pumped the brake pedal and it went to the floor. She turned the car off and returned to the house and cancelled her scheduled appointment. Later, after i arrived home i inspected the brake lines and found evidence of leaking above the left rear wheel. I jacked up the car, removed the left rear wheel and a rubber shield between the frame rail and body. More evidence of a leak was present. I started the car, pumped the brakes twice, turned off the car and reinspected the area. The metal brake line that runs along the top of the frame rail had a leak where it 90s toward the center of the axle. *tr

As i was driving along the air bag light came on. I have seen threads of smoke on 3 or 4 occasions coming from the steering column. The air bag light goes out after a minute and comes on again repeatedly. *tr
