Bulletin No.: PIP5540 Published date: N/A Preliminary Information PIP5540 Poor Engine Performance or CEL On In Cold Ambient Temperatures (P0299) On Vehicles Equipped with Turbocharged Gasoline Engines Models Brand: All Model: All VIN: Model Years: 2000 - 2018 from All Engine: to All All Transmissions: All Involved Region or Country North America Condition Cause CEL on and poor engine performance in very cold ambient temperatures. (P0299) Possible poor engine performance and/or P0299 set due to restricted air flow during times of very cold ambient temperatures. Correction: If you encounter poor engine performance or CEL on with P0299 during very cold ambient temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius) and lower, it is advisable to inspect the air induction system including charge air cooler on turbocharged engines for signs of ice restricting the air flow or covering related pressure sensors. These inspections should be performed prior to following SI DTC diagnostic steps or performing any service as recommended in other bulletins or PI's. If found, allow the ice to melt so that the moisture can be drained from the induction system including the charge air cooler without component damage. Once any excessive moisture has been removed, retest and follow normal diagnostic steps for any symptoms found. Version History Version 1 Created on 1/4/2018 © 2016 General Motors.
