• Recall 138561 [USA]: If the vehicle stalls, it can increase the risk of a crash.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2017 nissan nv200, sentra, nv3500 van, nv3500 bus, nv200 taxi, nv1500, nv2500 van, chevrolet city express, 2017-2018 frontier, versa note, and versa sedan vehicles that have a mechanical (physical) key ignition system. In these models, over time, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
  nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the production information on the ignition switch, and replace it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began october 1, 2018. Owners may contact nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669.

  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2017 versa, and versa note vehicles. The ring plate that secures the air bag cushion to the passenger frontal air bag assembly may fail, possibly causing the air bag to deploy improperly in the event of a crash.

• Recall 123258 [USA]: In the event of a crash necessitating side curtain air bag deployment, if the side curtain air bags do not deploy as intended there would be an increased risk of injury.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain model year 2017 versa vehicles manufactured august 1, 2016, to august 16, 2016. A seam in the fabric section of the side curtain air bags may tear during side curtain air bag deployment, potentially affecting the performance of the air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 226, "ejection mitigation", and number 214, "side impact protection."
  nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right side curtain air bags, free of charge. The recall began on december 2, 2016. Owners may contact nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

• Recall 2018440 [Canada]: Electrical
  On certain vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition system, a spring in the ignition switch could wear and break. This may allow the ignition key to inadvertently move from the on position to the accessory (acc) position while driving, causing the engine to shut off and the airbag system to lose power. The resulting loss of motive power, and change in steering and brake forces could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Additionally, in the event of a crash, this may also cause the airbags not to function. Correction: dealers will inspect the lot number of the ignition switch, and replace it with a new one if it is affected. Note: until the correction is performed, owners are advised to remove all objects from the ignition key ring, such as additional keys, key chains, etc.

• Recall 2017227 [Canada]: Airbag
  On certain vehicles, the ring plate that secures the frontal passenger airbag cushion to the assembly housing may not have sufficient yield strength due to a manufacturing defect. This could cause the airbag cushion to separate from the ring plate when the airbag is deployed which could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the front passenger side airbag module.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20210917

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. It happened on the passenger side water was filling up on the passenger side of the car about a week ago last friday evening when i got off work i don't know where it is coming from but it is in the front and back seat of the car on the passenger side

The contact owns a 2017 nissan versa. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 mph, the hood opened independently. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an auto body shop where it was diagnosed that the hood latch needed to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,014.

The driver side door lock was frozen and would not open with the use of electrical button inside of car, the remote, or manually with key outside of the car. I was trapped inside of the car and could not get out of the car through the driver's side door and had to climb out of driver seat over to passenger door to get out of the car. If i was older and had health problems i would of not been able to get out of the car. Very dangerous and should not ever happen to any car door. When i took my car into my mechanics for repair, there was another versa that was brought in for the exact same problem, unbelievable. I did write to nissan and they had a consumer affairs person call me. I spoke to a women and she informed me that nissan did not have any recalls for the door locks. I expressed my concern for the safety and she told me that i should of taken the car to the nissan dealer. I told her that i was not able to get into the driver's door and had my daughter climb into the car to drive to our mechanic to have it repaired as there is not a nissan dealer nearby.

Driving right after an automated car wash, clicking started, dash lights dimmed, car started "missing". Turn car off, could note restart, clicking in dash still happened with key out of ignition. Waited 2 hrs then started. Made it home. Next day same issue but i did not turn car off. As i am driving car seemed to improve.

I have a 2017 nissan versa note sv and i'm having problems with the cvt transmissions slipping, and also im been having problems with the rear wheel bearings one was at around 59,000 and the next time it happened it was around 86,000. The time it happened it was under warranty the next time it i had to pay over 750$ now at 93,478 i'm hearing the same noise that the nissan dealership said that was the wheel bearing. Can you please help!

If you have the ac full blast and are idling at a red light the car will stall out as if it weren't getting fuel because it won't start right back up. In order for me to start it i had to press and depress the acceleration pedal while attempting to turn it over. If turning over exceeds the batteries voltage it will kill the battery resulting in worse problems. If you're lucky it will turn over after a long time turning it over while pushing gas pedal but if you don't unplug and plug in the fuel pump it might not work. If you idle for long periods of time you'll stall out for sure once the car starts sputtering hitting the gas pedal will only increase the speed of the stall because letting go seems to drain the systems fuel and it seems you'll have to get the fuel running thru system again. This car also has a lot more wrong with for starters the trunk is not sealed by welding it honestly looks like brown paint which doesn't completely cover the cracks between the frame and trunk bottom and sometimes i get light headed when idling before it started to stall out. This particular vehicle was made in mexico and seems to be cheaply made because the trim doesn't even display the versa s just versa aside from that immediately after purchasing it the passenger door lock no longer works neither does the trunk. You can hear the wind thru the doors while driving and the floor seems poorly insulated from heat. The blower motor isn't blowing the ac out as hard as it was. When accelerating pops are heard coming from the bottom of the car which i don't know the source but i do know it can't be good. This vehicle is my mother's but i drive it a lot and this is only my half of the experience. I honestly think she got scammed because this 2017 car doesn't have electric seats, door locks or windows and doesnt even have a key fob or alarm.

I own a 2017 nissan versa note and the cvt transmission feels sluggish and acts as if it is slipping. It revs up high but does not accelerate quickly. Then the car catches up and begins to pick up speed. I must accelerate hard to get up to highway speed and the engine sounds as if it is accelerating than decelerating. I get the same problem when accelerating from a stop light in city traffic. I believe this cvt has had recalls on it but i don't see any on my particular vehicle.

The nissan versa 2017 is unsafe to be driving in the road because it turns off while it's driving in the middle of the street. I fixed my car 2 times and it keeps on having the same problems and nissan doesn't want to do anything about it. I took the car to the dealership and they made me buy parts that the car didn't even need and the car broke down 20 miles later after it being 'fixed'. Now i took it back and i have to pay again for it to be fixed and idk if it will happen again and i feel unsafe in this car.

I even gave nissan the name of the mechanics that found the leak as well as a copy of my medical record that said i had carbon dioxide poisoning. The last inspection i had with nissan they refused to give me a copy of the invoice/workorder. Nissan said if i wanted a copy i would have to go through the legal department. Now the check engine light is on. I bought the car brand new. I has less than 20,000 miles and i took it to the dealer 10 times for the same engine leak that i making me sick.

I purchased my 2017 nissan versa in july of 2017, with 10 miles on it and that was the 10 miles that i put on it during the test drive. March of 2019 my brakes start to make this high pitch sound when i break. My car does not have 28,000 miles on it yet. Took it to midas (because brakes are not covered under the warranty) and they told me my front break pads were thin, so had those replaced. Three days later the sound is back. So midas did not fix the problem they just took me for $200.00. My car is still making the high pitch sound when breaking.

I've had to fix my brakes 3 times and it's only been a year, to to mention i'm still hearing a scratching sounds when i brake. So there's obviously something wrong with something else and i shouldn't be coming out of pocket this much for brakes.

At 5:30, 1 dec 2018, driving 45 mph nothing unusual when my car just stopped moving! I had my foot flat to the ground on the gas and it was no where! I had to through my hazards on because i was on a county road and nearly got hit! I pulled over into a neighborhood and drove some more to see if it was a freak thing but it happened about 8 more times (really quickly like the engine died for 10 seconds, came back, died again; i was just jolting forward when it came back on!) it was totally and completely unsafe to drive so i had to have it towed to my nissan dealership! It sounds exactly like what happened to the guy in charlottesville, where i am close and i would bet money it's the exact same issue they found in his car but nissan needs to do something! I was just there 3 weeks ago for my inspection!

Cruise control light continues to flash randomly

When it is cold outside the engine stalls or lose power during acceleration. Today 11/29/2018 it was 28 degrees. I warmed the car up for a few minutes because of the stalling problem. I was driving on the street for two miles when i came to a stop sign. I put on the brakes and the car just shut down. The car was still in drive. There was no check engine light or warning prior to, during, or after the time the car shut down. I had to turn the ignition to the off position. Put the car in park. Then cranked the car back up to drive out the way of the cars behind me. I drove the car to the nearest nissan dealership. They check the car. There were no codes in the computer. The dealership is going to keep the car overnight and test drive it in the morning when it is cold. I am very disappointed. I just purchased the car two months ago with 5000 miles. The window also has been getting stuck and would not roll down all the way. This weekend the door was hard to open, and when i opened the door, the window got off track. My boyfriend and i tried to see if we could move it, but did not want to mess it up any more than it already was. He went to roll it down just a little, and the whole window shattered. I dont know what caused this, because the car has never been in an accident. The car was off and parked.

They said it may take a couple day or a couple month. 2018-01-08 i text messaged to service manager for the update. No replay. It's been more than 2 weeks.

I purchased my 2017 nissan versa in september 11th, 2017. Within 2 weeks, i began having brake issues. The car would screech when slowing down and make almost a grinding sound when making a hard brake. I took it to the dealer who i purchased the car from (abc nissan) and they twice refused to fix it. Than i drove across town to another dealer (midway nissan) who admitted that it was a known defect and said it simply needed more grease. About a week after being fixed, the problem continued. Two weeks later, i was on the freeway and attempting to slow down to stopped traffic when the brakes locked up and would not allow me to stop. I attempted to steer in the direction of the side lane, but was unable to avoid the collision with the car in front of me. The airbags immediately deployed and although no serious injuries occurred, i found that some papers i had in the car had somehow been torn. Although i was wearing a seat belt, my seat belt was nowhere to be found. I am glad i am alive and i am thankful that i was not injured (other than very minor knee injury) but i feel that both the brakes and the air bags present significant safety concerns. Previous years of nissans have been recalled for the brake issues. My car only had 24 miles when i purchased the car and the brakes locked up and failed at 3,000 miles.

I bought a brand new 2017 nissan versa note. Drove it straight home. Opened the hatch and saw the passingers rear seat latch was unlocked. Tipped seat forward and found the seat belt was stuck in the lach and damaged. The dealer was notified and he said they will replace the seat belt. But that will not stop it from happening. The seat belt hangs loose and needs to have some sort of holder to keep it firm against the side panel to avoid the seat belt falling into the latch area and getting stuck in the latch and causing the seat not to latch and damaging the seat belt. The dealer said he looked at an identical vehicle on the lot and found that vehicle had same exact issue and damaged that seat belt too. He said at this time there is no solution to the problem. There are small notches in the side panel that appear might be for a bracket or some type of strap. But the dealer said there is nothing available and has no idea what those notches are for. This is a safety issue that needs immediate attention. The seat will not latch if belt is jammed in it and it is damaging the seat belts. I can only guess how many seat belts consumers might go through everytime it gets jammed.
