• Recall 94111 [USA]: If there is a loss of electrical power to the vehicle, the vehicle may unexpectedly stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 1-series coupes and convertibles manufactured december 2007 through september 2011; and 2007-2011 3-series coupes and convertibles manufactured march 2007 through october 2011; 2007-2011 3-series sedans manufactured march 2007 through october 2011; 2007-2011 3-series sports wagons manufactured march 2007 through june 2011; and 2009-2011 z4 vehicles manufactured march 2009 through june 2011. In february 2013, bmw recalled 504,545 vehicles. In july 2013, bmw informed the agency that it was adding 1-series, 3-series, and z4 vehicles, representing an additional 12,094 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 516,791. The connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time. Over time, the high current flow and heat from electrical resistance may lead to a breakage of the connection, and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20210917

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). Convertable top not operating.

On the convertible model there is a rear brake light bar located on the trunk deck. This light bar has fallen off my vehicle 4 times in 43000 miles. It is not a very effective brake light if it keeps falling off. This is obviously a defect in what is supposed to be a safety feature.

Reference pcv valve heater recall. My car started smoking between a month and a half to two months ago. I have talked to both regional and local bmw. They said there were going to make arrangements for alternative transportation but i haven't heard from them since 1/16/18. My car is noticeably smoking while stationary, and you can smell plastic burn smell when driving. At first, i contacted regional bmw sometime during early december. They advised me to contact my local bmw in reference to getting me into alternative transportation until my recall parts were available. Bmw of ocala told me they hadn't heard anything about alternative transportation and that my car would not be smoking due to the recall. I parked my car and undid the battery on 12/30/17. I tried to start my car on either 1/14/18 or 1/15/18 and it started smoking again immediately. I contacted regional on 1/16/18. They took my information (mileage, purchase date, place purchased, and place called for assistance), and gave it to a case manager at regional. The regional manager tyler contacted me back the same day 1/16/18 and told me he faxed my information and instructions over to bmw of ocala and i should hear from them in 1-2 days and if not, to call him back. I've been calling tyler and leaving messages since 1/19/18 and have not heard back from him, or bmw of ocala. My car is not safe and i can not drive it. The number i have been calling for regional bmw is 1800-831-1117. Tylers extension there is 7389.

Takata recall the takata airbags on my car were recalled in feb 2016. I have spoken to my local bmw dealership multiple times and the replacement parts are still on a "national backorder." this has almost been 2 years without a resolution - this is completely unacceptable.

Takata recall bmw has failed to replace the air bag that was recalled on 2/5/2016 after many services they have not to date replaced the driver side air bag

My car headlights and all inside panel lights went out on the car. I need help because no one seems to can tell me what is wrong and how to get it fixed. I do know that a recall on electric systems happened in october but my car was never fixed. I live in laurel ms. My two front windows stopped working the same time that all lights went out.

Led running lights in passenger side tail lights have failed. Further inspection shows that the circuit board that houses the led tube lights has a malfunction due to poorly soldered circuit board. Left tail lights running light function fails completely (blinker, and brakes are still retained). Led tubes do not light up at all making the car less visible at night.

2011 bmw 128i. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle accelerated when the brake was applied. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed. As he applied more pressure to the brake pedal, the vehicle traveled an additional three feet, leaving him to take defensive measures, such as placing the gear shift into neutral mode. At that time, the engine dropped back to its normal status. After keeping the vehicle for three and a half days, they determined the high idling of the engine was caused by the floor mat jamming the gas pedal. The vehicle was returned to the consumer. *jb
