• Recall 89943 [USA]: This condition may cause inadequate sealing and loss of engine oil, possibly resulting in a fire.
  Certain honeywell fram racing brand hp4 and hp8 oil filters that were manufactured from may 25, 2006, through september 14, 2007, and sold for use as replacement equipment for vehicles list above. The affected filters are marked with a date code a61451 through a72571 sequentially. The date code and part number appear on the filter housing. Fram racing hp4 and hp8 oil filters not bearing a date code in this range are not affected by this recall. The gasket of the oil filter becomes more pliable under high temperatures and pressures.
  honeywell will replace the affected oil filters free of charge. The recall began during november 2007. Owners can contact fram customer service toll-free at 1-800-890-2075.

• Recall 60146 [USA]: This condition may cause an inadequate seal at the connection, potentially leading to a fuel leak. in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
  Certain replacement fuel filters, fram brand name p/n g3727, with date codes x52911 through x60801 sequentially or x600141 and a mexico country or origin marking on the fuel filter housing manufactured from october 18, 2005, through march 21, 2006, sold for use on the vehicles listed above and on certain school buses. (to see the school bus engine sizes, click on "document search" and then "bus applications"). The connector on the fuel filter was not manufactured to honeywell's specification. As a result, the o-ring may not seat correctly on the fuel line.

• Recall 54872 [USA]: An inoperative pump can cause increased steering effort, and in hydro-boost equipped vehicles also increased braking effort, but does not completely eliminate the ability to steer or slow the vehicle.
  Some pickup trucks, vans, and sport utility vehicles equipped with a hydraulic pump driveshaft that can fracture, resulting in immediate loss of hydraulic power steering assist. On certain vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, the same condition can result in loss of power assist for braking after the reserve pressure is depleted.
  dealers will replace the hydraulic pump. The campaign began on february 14, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.
  gm campaign no. 05001.This action is deemed a safety improvement campaign and is not being conducted under the safety act.The company has informed nhtsa that it will provide the modifications described above free of charge.

• Recall 8223 [USA]: If this occurs, power steering fluid could flow onto hot engine parts and an engine compartment fire could occur.
  Vehicle description: passenger vans equipped with a brake warning indicator. Some of these vehicles have a power steering cooler hose that can separate from the power brake booster fluid flow switch assembly.
  dealers will inspect for three screw clamps to the power steering hose joints. If the clamps are not the screw type, dealers will replace the clamps.

• Recall 2000076 [Canada]: Other
  On certain vehicles, the power steering cooler hose may separate from the power brake booster fluid flow switch assembly.   Gm is conducting a recall on all subject vehicles build between may 1999 and october 14, 1999.Significant changes were incorporated into production in early october 1999, and vehicles built after that date have lower warranty failure rates.The complaint and warranty data appear to support the effectiveness of these changes. Gm made additional changes in november 1999, february 2000, may 2001, and february 2004.Odi will continue to monitor this problem and will take further action, if warranted, in the future.For further technical details see the attached engineering analysis report.

A tire blew out driving on a highway. Goodyear wrangler 235/75r15.

When approaching stop light with traffic the brake pedal went to the floor. I had to swerve and use the parking brake to stop. *tr *js

I stepped on the brakes and pedal went to the floor, i had no braking at all. I was attempting to stop and pull into a gas station; fortunately i was heading up-hill. I was able to control the vehicle and coast to a stop safely. I have not yet replaced any parts; i had the truck towed to my driveway. The cause of the issue is a ruptured brake line due to excessive corrosion. The brake line is ruptured at a point about 18' back from the firewall. The truck is washed regularly and is primarily driven on-road, no extreme or 'heavy-duty 'service use of this vehicle at all. *tr

Van has less than 60,000 m. Last 2-3 years rust corrosion on frame has now become so bad its no longer able to pass nh state safety inspection. Brake lines rusted and replaced in 2010 .Gas tank rusted and leaks.Leaf spring brackets rusted and broken ,one replaced in 2011,other just broke can not find mech. To fix,because rust has eaten away so much metal,( it gets thinner and weaker). I bought this van brand new am the only driver and have taken very good care of it.I can not afford to just dump it and buy another. I know of many other gmc vans all doing the same thing.The bumpers also are paper thin where there's some cheap metal left. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph and pulling up to his driveway he tried to unlock the doors of vehicle and they would not unlock. He was also unable to unlock the doors with the remote. He then tried to unlock the vehicle from the outside to no avail.This failure only occurs on the drivers side. The dealer was contacted and they stated to bring the vehicle in to be diagnosed. He then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic. It took 1 hour to open the door , they took the door apart and removed the electrical half of the mechanism and replaced it and then it finally worked. The part was ordered from the gmc dealer. There is another problem with the anti lock brake system where he is driving 5 mph when making a turn and stepping on the brakes the brakes do not engage. He has to put the vehicle in neutral for the vehicle to stop. Gmc was contacted and they stated that they will repair the whole brake system at the owners expense . There have been no repairs at the time of the complaint for the brakes. The failure mileage was 116900 and current mileage was 117000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 gmc savanna. The vehicle was being service for routine maintenance when the contact was informed by the technician that the frame was severely rusted to the point where the technician ws able to put his finger through the rust and the frame. The contact believed that the failure indicated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc savana. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective. The contact mentioned that he had to watch the mileage on the vehicle in order to know the fuel level instead of relying on the fuel gauge. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 135,000.

Many general motors vehicles are set up to have their head lights come on 60% of brightness when they start the vehicle day or night, where the problem comes in is at night . Most people see the lights on in front of them and think they have an automatic system and don't bother to turn on their headlight switch and therefore don't have tail lights. I have almost hit two of these in foggy conditions. I have started keeping track of the vehicles i see without tail lights on at night. I have seen over 100 in the last two months. I believe this is a serious problem that needs a recall on. *tr

When coming to a full stop in light to moderate 35 to 40 mile an hour traffic zones , usually when making a right hand turn, the brake pedal would over travel almost to the floor, their would be a loud scrubbing sound. This happened a few years ago, and i took my van to three separate gm authorized dealers/ repair shops on three separate occasions and they told me that their was nothing wrong with my brakes. This was vary frustrating. So i took it to a local shop and they discovered that the right rear parking brake was activated and would not release. They fixed the problem by disconnecting the parking brake control cable to the right rear brake drum. The problem was fixed except now i had no parking brakes! Since that time i had become disabled and the van sat on my property for a couple of years. Until it was time to take it for a state required emissions test. I took the van to a local mechanic that was also certified by the state to make the van pass the test. He told me that i had a brake cable disconnected, i told him why. He told me he could fixed the problem, and he did every thing worked gust fine, and here i am a year later facing the same problem. There has to be a problem with either the cable rusting and when someone applies the parking brake the right rear drum will not release, or somethings wrong with the drum brakes. The last time the van was used by my daughter, she has been trained to operate big box ambulances, she is an emt, so i don't think she would drive improperly, and i would also take her work about the malfunctioning brakes. All i can say is here i go again. By the way this vehicle has very low mileage, looks and functions like a new van except for this brake problem that keeps reoccurring. Make me afraid to let any one use it, even if they been trained to handle larger vehicles.

2000 gmc savana van with conversion package. Power steering completely failed. I found a recall notice on the nhtsa site, called gmc and was told there was no recall. After i told the operator the recall number she then found a "customer satisfaction safety campaign". I was not notified of this serious safety hazard with my vehicle. My 17 year old daughter was driving the vehicle when the power steering failed. Luckily, she was able to park the car without incident. This is a large heavy car it is almost impossible to steer w/o the power steering. Gmc will be kind enough to fix the steering after i get the vehicle to a dealer. (they are not responsible for towing) sooo i get to drive the car to the dealer w/o the power steering. I wonder if it would pass an accident avoidance course?? *jb

No injuries, or crashes. Door handle on van pulling away from vehicle. Poor quality for handles. Made of all plastic. Couldn't open passenger door because plastic parts had broken inside the door. This van is not abused in any way,as my 98 lb. Wife is the one using that door everyday and doesn't slam the door, or tug on handles. Part was replaced by dealer. My concern is when will the rest of the handles break, or fall off?*jb

Dt: the consumer stated while driving the 2000 gmc savanna vehicle experienced d the same problems as mentioned in recall 05v00500. While parking the van, coming back, and then putting it i into the reverse the power steering assist failed. Also, had brake problems. Had to allow extra space in between cars for the van to stop. Consumer called gm, and checked on the recalls , and was informed this vehicle was not included in the recall. Consumer only put on 1,500 miles on the van since purchasing it. The van was preowned and was equipped with handicap accessibility. The dealership was called, they found recalls, and t referred consumer to gm. The owner has not has this repaired. The brakes has also had problems. The brakes operated poorly, and could not get vehicle to stop. The mechanic determined that there was nothing wrong with the brakes.*ak

Dt: the consumer stated that the fuel pump located inside the fuel tank, basically burned out. Consumer said the only thing that saved vehicle was that the hill he was traveling on was not steep. Consumer lost power function in 2000 gmc savannah 2500. There were so signs of any trouble before this happened. Owner contacted the dealership, there was nothing they could do because it was out of warranty. Manufacturer said the same thing, they could not help . The fuel pump was replaced already, and the problem seemed to correct itself. The information given is what the consumer provided at this time.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc savana 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer sticks and displays inaccurate speeds. It usually becomes stuck anywhere between 60-70 mph, regardless of the actual speed that is being driven. The failure has occurred intermittently for years and the vehicle was never taken to the dealer. Through research, the contact recently found numerous complaints for the same failure. He called the manufacturer and was informed that they were only repairing the 2003 and 2004 models, but no recall had been issued. Whenever the contact takes the vehicle to the dealer, they are unable to duplicate the failure. The failure is progressively becoming worse and has not been repaired. He believes it is a safety hazard to not know how fast he is driving. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000 and current mileage was 97,000. Updated 03/04/09. *lj updated 03/06/09. *jb

Consumer had vehicle serviced 8 times. Each time rotors/brakes, and drums were repaired. Mechanic stated the shoes did not fit the drums. *ak. Gm has technical reference dated 09/01/1999 tha thas them putting some part on. Every time they take it in to the shop it comes out with the same resukts. Consumer's deduction was the same as the mechanic, that the part is not sized rightly. *ak

While driving there was smoke. Once getting out of the vehicle it became engulfed with flames. Other than normal service, nothing was wrong.*ak the consumer was told that this year and model vehicle has had numerous fire problem. The consumer would like to e contacted to discuss the failure. *nm

Every 15,000 miles brakes fail. Dealer states that wheel bearing needed to be replaced. *ak

I've noticed that 96 and newer gmc savana's and chevrolet express full size vans have a problem with the rear taillights. I've been looking frequently for a recall but have yet to see one. The problem is when the brakes are applied, the right brake light is very dim. I've changed the bulbs several times thinking this would solve the problem but it hasn't. When the tail lamps are turned on and the brakes are applied, the right side completely malfunctions. I would really hate to get a ticket for a burned out tail lamp when that isn't the case. *nm

Automatic transmission failure.Repair shop stated a bearing failed causing transmission to fail.*ak

2000 gmc savana vehicle is equiped with antilock brakes. On two occassions when i had to make sudden stops i encountered brake failure. Although, there were other times they never resulted in accidents. The brakes would seem to engage then let go causing vehicle to travel father than expected. *ak

While driving on interstate at 65 mph, i noticed a vibration or rough ride followed by a complete tread seperation and blow out of the right rear tire on my gmc 3500 series long wheelbase savanna van. Tread remained attached to casing scraping a three foot arch on the side fender panel(paint scraped from steel belts and black rubber deposited)and the tail pipe was pulled into the wheel causing it to fold in two at the axle. Debrise from the tire hit several other cars and no accident resulted from this failure. Tire size was 245/75/16e inflated to proper presure five days prior, rotated at regular intervals and visually checked frequently. Dt

Consumer states that while driven the vehicle the power steering pump causing the vehicle to loose all power steering and brake system. Gmc was called and dealer fixed the problem. Nlm

Rear door will open too wide, hitting front door, and causing damage. Dealer notified. *ak

Brakes are applied at highway speed and vehicle vibrates. Pedal would go partialy to the floor, resulting in extended stopping, andcausing a collision. *ak

Inside left front brake pad wore down completely at 17,109 miles, damaging rotor, requiring rotor replacement and brake job. There was absolutely no notice such as a squeal or other indication that would normally occur prior to a brake component failure. Dealer claimed it was "normal" wear although the other three pads had plenty of life left on them. Dealer would not cover repairs. Gm customer service was contacted and provided no help. Cust. Service also sided with the dealer mechanic, saying it was "normal" wear and would not be covered. I ended up having them repaired/replaced at another location. Seems to be a common problem as i have seen many prior complaints of this same type on the same or similar type vehicles. This appears to be a safety related complaint to me, but thus far, after many years of complaints of this type, no investigation has been initiated. Inadequate braking systems for this type of vehicle. Should be a recall to provide heavy duty brakes for these vans. Dt

Total sidewall blow out of rear left tire on interstate at 65 mph. Van was brought under control by driver and pulled over to the side of the road. Tire and aluminum wheel distroyed. Firestone tires were put on by conversion van company (explorer conversions) and selling gmc dealer indicated these firestone tires were no problem.)*ak (dot number: vdm2f20100 tiresize: p255/75r15)

This tire has de-laminated, the tread is peeling off. I know of two other people who have the same vehicle with the same tires that have had the same problem. If i were driving at highway speeds and not in a residential neighborhood, it could have very easily caused an accident. Even at 30-35 mph it caused the vehicle to shake violently and swerve all over the road. *ak (tiresize: lt245/75r1)

Consumer was traveling at 10mph while pulling out of the drive way. Then, consumer was applying brakes, and vehicle suddenly started to accelerate, gained speed before hitting two trees. *ak

Van pulls to left on med. To hard stops, twice over center line of road, rotors are warped, rear brakes will not self adjust as they are supposed to do, excessive front pad wear.

Seat belt buckle in rear bench broke, unable to fasten seat belt. Contacted dealer, unable to fix problem.*ak

While braking front brakes made noise and vehicle would not stop properly. Upon visual inspection brake pad had separated from backing plate and disintegrated.*ak

Vehicle has had consistent brake lead and pull to right and left, excessive brake pad wear and warpage of both rotors which causes a shimmy, wobbling and shaking of steering. This vehicle is driven mainly on open roads and highways, rarely in traffic . On many occasions when braking the vehicle will pull hard over to the left, sometimes right, especially on off ramps, often times needing a strong correction to keep vehicle from leaving the roadway. Vehicle has been to dealer 5 times for testing and repair. However it was not the dealer where truck was purchased. *ak

Back bench outside seatbelts are of such design that when a child or adult is buckled up, belt sits right at center of rib cage. Stalk comes up about 10 inches above seat. *ak *jb

Original brakes wore out at 13,000. Brakes were mushy and squealing. Installed new pads and brakes are still squealing. When braking on hill at low speed, hear thump, thump. Had to push pedal down as hard as i could to engage a stop. Afterwards heard a loud metal on metal scratching and cluncking of brakes.*ak

Our vehicle caught on fire with my wife and three small children inside. We had the child sefety locks engaged and quickly realized that if my wife had gone to the rear of the van from the inside (via between the seats) to retrieve the children the results would have been deadly since she would not have been able to open the door from the inside while the child safety lock was engaged. Although they were installed with good intentions we have learned they are unsafe during a fire and will never engage them again. *ak

Catalytic converter has been replaced four times in less than three years. My dealer just keeps shrugging their shoulders and telling me they don't know why. They tell me every time, it was broken into many small pieces and when they tapped on the manifold that it sounded like salt in there..*jb

Brakes are ineffective and consistent noise in steering system. Near misses. *ak

Basicly the van i have been driving has proven to be unsafe and hazardest to me and my family. No safety defec tmentione din summary. *ak

While driving and applying brakes, they squealed. Consumer contacted dealer. Dealer lubricated brakes. After brakes were lubricated they locked up and overheated enough to melt wheel caps. Also, dealer replaced brake booster, and entire brake system including abs unit. Consumer noted power brakes have failed , and brake booster needed to be replaced for second time. Please provide any further details. *ak

Electrical wiring provided to be attached to the trailer for the rear tail light had a problem. 18 gauge wire/4 amp only good for 6 feet, not enough to reach the trailer. At leasat 10ga wire needed instead. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that the wire was long enough. *ak *ml

Consumer stated while traveling 55-60 mph a horse was standing in middle of street and consumer's vehicle ran head on into the horse. Air bags did not deploy at any indication. *ak

Intermittenly ,transmission will not engage 1st to 2nd gear or 3rd to 2nd gear properly, and vehicle will surge forward on its own.*ak

When driver's side sunvisor is pushed against windshield ,it will drop back down into a notch, d-dent, causing poor visibility.*ak the driver's seat (electric) is in the lowest position. *yh

Front brake pads, rotors and rear brake are prematurely wearing out, cause unknown. *ak

Advising of need to investigate premature anti-lock brake activation on front wheels under following condition - below 20-30 mph light pedal application on "rippled" potholed paved road as in coming to stop sign on heavily traveled road. Either front wheel hitting bump activates abs which then shuts down that wheel then complete brake system (leaves no code) for 1-2 seconds & has led to inability to stop by appropriate place at intersection and what i would term several near accidents. This happens i repeat under light pedal application on front wheels at slow speeds with no load in truck bed with one adult & single passenger usuually my 9 yr old son. Can consistently duplicate if needed for demonstration. Dealer has been unable to answer other then "that is normal" *ak

The right side inner pad was worn down and separated from the backing plate causing metal-to-metal contact, the left side front brakes were worn, the front brakes are undersized for this vehicle. Nlm
