  • Recall 104113 [USA]: If the carrier cable is corroded due to road salt, the spare tire may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling certain model year 2004-2011 sienna vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia. The affected vehicles have a spare tire carrier assembly mounted under the vehicle whose attachment cable may corrode due to high concentrations of road salt splashing onto the spare tire carrier.
toyota sent owners in august 2014 an interim notification to advise owners of the recall and that dealers will perform an interim remedy to remove the spare tire and relocate it to the luggage compartment, free of charge. Owners are being mailed a second letter as parts become available and dealers will replace the spare tire carrier assembly with an improved one, free of charge. The remedy campaign is being performed in phases. The first phase of the recall began july 7, 2015. Owners may contact toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Note: 2004-2010 siennas subject to this recall were subject to recall campaign 10v-160 initiated in 2010. Those owners are advised that they must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign and that having the earlier recall completed did not remedy their vehicles. Additionally, model year 1998-2003 siennas were recalled as part of safety recall 10v-160. Owners of those vehicles that have not had not the remedy performed on their vehicles, should contact their toyota dealer to schedule a free repair.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 97917 [USA]: If the shift lever is moved out of the park position without the brake applied, the transmission will either engage a drive gear or neutral, increasing the risk of a backover or roll away crash.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2004-2005 sienna vehicles manufactured january 10, 2003, through august 10, 2005; and model year 2007-2009 sienna vehicles manufactured february 20, 2007, through december 12, 2008. In the affected vehicles, due to a problem within the shift lock solenoid, there is a possibility that the shift lever could be moved out of park position without depressing the brake pedal.
toyota will mail interim notifications to owners beginning in late october 2013. When parts are available, owners will be sent a second notice and dealers will replace the shift lock solenoid, free of charge. Owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

  • Recall 74214 [USA]: The cable may break due to excessive corrosion and the spare tire may separate from the vehicle, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 1998 through 2010 sienna passenger vehicles manufactured between august 7, 1997 and january 4, 2010, currently registered in or originally sold in connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, washington district of columbia, virginia, west virginia, and wisconsin. The subject vehicles are equipped with the spare tire stowed under the vehicle. If the vehicle is operated in the cold climate regions of the united states where road salt is frequently used, water splashed backwards with high concentrations of road salt can reach the spare tire carrier and corrode the spare tire carrier assembly cable.
toyota will notify owners with an interim letter initially instructing them to bring their vehicle to authorized dealers to inspect for corrosion. A second notice will be sent when the permanent remedy is available. For more information, please see toyota's amended recall report of july 19, 2010. Last wednesday morning another car rear ended my sienna at high speed at stop sign while i was waiting for my turn to proceed. I was travelling with my family. Sienna got totaled due to this. Side doors, back door, back bumper, cargo and third row seat area all got impacted due to this and everything caved inward by few inches. My entire family has been shaken to the core and me and my wife are sufferings from severe pain in back and neck since the accident. The cabin was filled will white smoke (powdery stuff), but no air bags got deployed (opened) due to the impact. We are lucky that we all are still alive since we had been hit from the back at high speed. The car hitting us from the back must be travelling above 40 miles an hour since my fully loaded sienna with 3 adults and a child skid forward by almost 8-10 feet. This is a serious concern that even after such a high impact collision, none of the air bag opened. The vehicle was stationary, on a highway at a stop sign (ridge rd and route 52 junction in kendall county, il). I have attached the police report and also the rear of my car. It rendered my car undrivable and i had to get it towed to the garage.

The airbag light on dash flashes on and off at start of engine and continues while car is running. After researching this problem i quickly found out this is a known issue with numerous complaints. I also understand that if airbag light is flashing that airbags are not going to deploy in event of frontal impact. I feel this is safty issue and the manufacturer should recall these vehicles.

As i drive on dry roads at speeds between 35 - 65mph, my car indicator lights and alarm sound off about vsc (vehicle stability control) and slippery road lights on my dashboard. My vehicle's steering and braking are affected by it. It starts to rattle the steering wheel and the braking pumps - causing a reduction in speed and control for the driver. It caused me to fear a possible vehicular accident so much that i pulled off the road. The problem then disappears and doesn't reappear until i encounter a similar driving condition. I fear that if this occurs on a crowded highway, it will cause me to get into a vehicular accident due to the abrupt loss of control. My minivan was purchased to keep my family 'safer' and this experience is causing me to fear using this vehicle. After conducting an internet search it appears to be happening to toyota sienna vehicles between model years 2004 - 2008. Mechanics don't seem to understand how to fix other than resetting the sensors; which doesn't fix the problem but just delays its reappearance. In all cases, i experienced this problem only while driving at speeds between 35mph and higher. It's occurred on dry and wet roads, usually while on a curved road.

Driving 55mph on frwy, van started smoking in the rear and oil on back of van. Slowly drove short distance home and lights on dash came on upon arriving home. Oil leaked on street where we parked. Had mobile mechanic look at it. Oil cooler hose had burst. He replaced it, we drove the van 50 miles on short trips. When on frwy, it happened again about 3 wks later. Had towed home. Same hose busted again. Looked on internet sites & found same problem has occurred to many people with same van year. Longterm ongoing problem. Called tejas toyota in humble, tx and svc mgr said toyota offered an extended warranty (knew there was a problem), but it ended at 100,000 miles/10yrs (we have 120, 900) and is 2007 van. We've already had it towed and fixed twice. We're recovering from near death/covid afraid to drive it since we can't trust it. Based on internet stories by others with same problem, & svc mgr at toyota opinion, fear is warranted. Our van was repaired 2x w/ same type of inferior hose put on van when built by a mechanic not at toyota. None of us realized inferior part was the problem. Now we need to repair it again with a "kit" that toyota specifically made because this is known problem after we spent many 100s of $s repairing it using same type part when built. Wouldn't fix it when i called in 2015. It had to break 1st per toyota when i checked on it in 2015 when got notice.Toyota should repair it at no cost & reimburse me for the expenses i've already had. My husband had covid and almost died and it happened the day after he was released from a month long covid hospital stay and again when i was taking him to therapy for covid 3 wks later. We could have had a accident, been injured, when the van stops with no notice or warning lights.Toyota corp. Takes no responsibility. It's our problem, not theirs. Can't drive van. Will happen again w/out warning. Help please!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota sienna. The contact stated while stopped at traffic light, the vehicle stalled with the brake pedal depressed. Several warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the vehicle into neutral and coasted into a driveway. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that there was no oil in the engine. The contact refilled the oil however, the oil immediately leaked out the vehicle. A mechanic arrived on scene and replaced an oil hose. After the hose was replaced, the contact heard an abnormal knocking noise in the engine. The contact took the vehicle to several independent mechanics and was informed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The contact had the vehicle towed to suburban toyota of farmington hills (25000 haggerty rd, farmington hills, mi 48335) who confirmed there was an engine failure. The contact then had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where the engine was replaced. After the engine replacement, the contact experienced several transmission issues. The contact stated that while at a stop, the vehicle independently shifted in and out of gear without warning. Also, while in reverse, the vehicle coasted and jerked upon slight depression of the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 126,300.*dt*jb

My 2007 toyota sienna airbag light has been blinking off and on for about 1 year, because it would do it on an inconsistent basis, i didn't get it checked because it would go off and then come one again. Today at 81,000 miles i took my car to get serviced for an oil change, so i had them diagnose the airbag light and they told me i needed a whole new air bag system that would cost me over $1300.00 and i feel this is a safety issue and should be the responsibility of the manufacturer. The airbag system is not something a consumer have access to, to cause wear and tear. I've been driving my children around not realizing the whole system would need to be replaced. Should this be a recall because i am seeing several complaints in this model. And i am unsure how a recall is established but i feel this needs to be a recall.

At random speeds, on curves and straightaways, the traction lights alarms and engages the brakes. This seems really dangerous. Our mechanic doesn't know what is the cause or how to fix it.

When driving in perfectly dry conditions and going anywhere from 30-70 mph on a winding road or highway, the vsc lights will come on and the alarm will sound and you can't accelerate. It's very scary and dangerous because you are not in control of the vehicle. It happens every time we go for a drive on a winding road or highway. I have read hundreds of similar complaints from other sienna owners. It's clearly a widespread problem. Toyota needs to issue a recall as all the repair shops we have gone to cannot figure out how to fix the problem.

While traveling at 65 mph on interstate 5 in heavy traffic through oregon, the drivers side corner window suddenly without warning fell out of the vehicle. It was dangling by the two wires that attach the molded in glass antennae. Other vehicles around me slammed on their brakes and swerved as i'm sure they though the 2 foot wide, 3 foot long piece of glass swing around the out side of the van was going to detach any second and sail into one of their cars.

Oil line ruptured due to rubber failure. This oil line was replaced in 2012 with same line as originally installed. Failure can be catastrophic for engine as oil is discharged quickly and with no warning or indication. Vehicle was in motion on a highway when odor and noise made me stop and check. Had to be towed and repaired. Cost over 500.00.

Oil cooling hose broke and all engine oil leaked from engine. Vehicle was in motion but made to parking spot. No warning of event and no dash/engine light signaling problem. Only oil on ground under van signaled problem. Van was subjected to recall in 2011 which replaced hose. Dealer replaced parts as repair with a complete redesigned part removing rubber hosed all together. This was not a recall but owners expense. Manufacturer never notified owner of this defective part or event possibility.

I had the front brakes and rotors replaced a few weeks ago. This past weekend all 4 tires were replaced. When driving off the dealer after the tire replacement, i noticed the abs and vsc lights were on. Turned back and took the minivan back to the dealer. Next day service mgr said according to the mechanic, the abs actuator needs to be replaced. This is a $2500 part, plus labor.

I purchased this toyota brand new in late 2007 and it was delivered in early 2008. It was modified by braunability to be wheelchair accessible. This means the original floor was cut out and a new sub-floor was welded in its place to accommodate the wheelchair. I noticed a lot of premature rust on the exterior modified sub-floor in 2016 i contacted braunability with my concerns only to be dismissed by them because they claimed the van was out of warranty. I was proactive and took the van to a local braunability dealer where the van was originally purchased to sandblast the exterior underside and repair extensive rust damage and undercoated the repairs. This was done at my expense and i paid approximately $7k dollars. Well recently i had to make a repair on the interior of the van only to discover the floor in the inside was also rotting away due to rust. This rust is only occurring on the metal that braunability used in their modifications. I contacted braunability again to raise my concerns only to be dismissed again. They stuck to their out of warranty argument. This van has been maintain in a near new condition and all the original toyota parts are in near new appearance but the rust is only on braunability metal. I also know of 2 other customers who dealt with similar rust issue and had to total their vans due to damage beyond repair and their vans were still operational aside from rust damage. This rust was caught by me because i am very particular about maintenance of my van and know rust is cancer to cars. I never expected the rust to be in the interior as well on a 10 year old van with only 105k miles. This would not be an issue if braunability had taken responsibility for the inadequate metal work. I paid 40 thousand dollars for these modification to my 07 toyota sienna. They should not be rotting. This is a serious safety issue if left unchecked.

I was driving back from this weekend on a highway and i noticed a thumping noise coming from the front of the vehicle and then i noticed an engine light came on and instinctively i knew that was a bad sign for all six of us my family and friends. So i immediately exited the nearest exit ramp and that's when the engine stalled and i couldn't move any longer. We called our insurance company for towing and the cops to steer clear of oncoming traffic since we're on the second lane on the exit ramp. I thank god that nothing happened to us but it shouldn't happen to my vehicle with only 93,000 miles with regular maintenance and a clean driving record.

This is the second complaint i have filed with toyota regarding the rear view venting window: i am writing a second email regrinding my serious concern and dissatisfaction regarding the resolution of the left rear venting window on my 2007 sienna completely dislodging from the seal and falling out while driving with passengers in the rear of the car while moving. I have know spoken with the dealership (littleton toyota) who declined and responsibility for this defect and repeatedly informed me it was toyota inc. Who was responsible. I was initially told my two different service department personnel who said the repair would be "under $30.00". I was then told by a 3 individual, cassandra, after i dropped the car off to get fixed , that now it would cost over $850.00 because the entire window needed to be fixed. I called toyota inc. And spoke with cortney who proceeded to tell me that i was out of luck and would have to assume complete responsibility. I asked to speak with a manager and was called by maria, who again told me that i as the customer would have to assume a significant portion of the cost given the warranty of three years had passed. Never mind the serious potential risk for injury, which neither representative would truthfully answer. I have now written the nhtsb and massachusetts attorney generals office to file complaints. I will be filing a small claims case to seek reimbursement for the cost of this window and resolution regarding the right rear venting window as well. This is solely the responsibility of toyota inc. And they should be actively trying to reassure me it will never happen again and appreciative that no one was injured. I am resolute in this matter and will not rest until a responsible resolution is reached. Pictures provided.

I just bought a 2007 toyota sienna in march of 2018 it is in very good shape it only had 70,000 miles on it is why i bought it. But the dash lights keep coming on now the airbag light is on and the man said i needed a new air bag system. I'v only put about 7,000 miles on since i bought it. This is a safety issue this should not happen. Why is happening ? Does anyone know about this issue or have any suggestions.

In winter when the temperature fall to 30 and when steering get a load squeaking noise and taken to the dealer (first winter) winter and they informed that it is not re-creatable. Many times the problem was reported to the dealer and no action was taken because it is not re-creatable. After warranty period expired i was asked to change the steering fluid to fix it. I did not since it was not due to usage/handling the vehicle and it is due to fault in manufacture. Next year we were informed that it is a safety issue and i need to change the steering fluid. I mentioned to the dealer should inform the toyota head office on this but nothing was document nor it was followed up by the local dealer. I am leaning towards the warranty coverage rather the consumer to pay because steering fluids should perform as it supposed to and do the job it supposed to. Any failure due to steering fluid and any damage caused will be toyota responsibility. It is 11 years passed and will continue to drive and hoping this will be fixed at any point of time before the crash occurs due to failure of the steering fluid leakage. This vehicle is driven in frankfort ky.

If i was not alerted by a good samaritan my kids and i will pay our lives. I called main office toyota and made a complain but they refused to help although this part 'hose is not used by toyota company for lack of safety. The supervisor was not listening and does not care about his consumers lives instead he said oh luckily some body told the car is smoking and we will do something about if it caught on fire or there is life lost. This respond is totally unacceptable he also refuse to email me a letter saying this part of the car was not recalled although it did.

Air bag indicator comes on and off intermittently and appears to be corrected by moving loose wires under front seats. Wires look to have bad connection. Very unpredictable. This has been occuring since 59,000 miles for the past year. Can happen while vehicle is in motion or at rest. Toyota will not admit problem.

The german toyota dealer could not clear the recall in the system and our local toyota dealer in ellicott city, md could not clear the recall even with our receipts. How can i have this recall cleared in the system? It was an issue when we shipped our vehicle back from germany (since you can't have open recalls when shipping).

At my 120,000 service, the toyota dealer technician reported a leaking front differential. He said it would take 16 hours to repair. The technician also mentioned that he had 3 toyota cars currently in the shop for the same thing. This seems beyond coincidental. Clearly, toyota has a problem with leaking seals. The difficulty to fix this problem translated into a bill of $1,404.60 plus $31.79 for a rental car. The bill may have been more: the car's rack and pinion was also leaking, so some of the labor was shared with that job. This amount seems extreme and either toyota has faulty seals or, if this is a "normal" wear and tear item at 120,000 miles, toyota has made it way too difficult to fix. Either way, this amount of expense is inordinate.

2004-2010 toyota sienna power sliding door cable warranty extension zts cable on my 2007 model broke and renders the passenger rear sliding door inoperable and is not fully closed. The condition happened while loading my 6 children into the vehicle, luckily my wife was able to close the door, which isn't fully secure in the closed position . The only operational passenger door is on driver side (street side), my children have to enter/exit vehicle on busy nyc street. I called toyota under the cable extension warranty however my vehicle is 9 months past the cutoff. I can not afford the repair bill that could exceed 2k.. After reading multiple posts on the toyota forum (https://www.Toyoheadquarters.Com/threads/2004-2010-toyota-sienna-power-sliding-door-cable-warranty-extension-zts.186/) this appears to be happening to multiple vehicles either outside of the warranty extension or their vin doesn't qualify them. I worry for the safety of my children since these cables can snap at anytime rending the door in the open position. If in an accident my passengers wouldn't be able to exit vehicle quickly. I feel toyota should cover the repair of their faulty safety equipment via a recall.

Four year old child shifted vehicle out of park into neutral causing it to roll down a hill and impact several trees (no injuries). I was told today that my cooler hose ruptured and i had to take it immediately to a auto repair shop. I was driving to work and the car started making a clicking noise and felt weird to drive. I got to work and was told to check the dip stick. Was told it sounded like i had no oil. I was thinking, that wouldn't be right i just got an oil change about a week earlier. It was bare. Completely empty. I then proceeded to get it to a repair shop as it was an emergency. The auto place told me that it needed a kit that they would have to buy to replace the cooler hose and would take awhile to fix this. It would be the only way to fix this. And they cant guarantee me the engine didnt get effected by this situation. I did my research on this issue and it is extremely dangerous and expensive. I am now out $500 and half a day at work. I was driving to work at 7:15am on highway 44 going about 45-55 miles an hour. It was terrifying and once i got to my work and realized that my van could have stopped on me in the middle of traffic whenever it wanted to this morning or the engine could have blown up and cause a real accident. This is a serious danger to me and people around me. I had no clue i was in danger, i had no idea that my van was messed up. There were no signs, no problems, no anything. It just out of nowhere drained the oil. I drive 35-45 miles to work. I wish i would have known about a "recall" on this. I wouldn't have had it checked way before.

I currently have a 2007 toyota sienna with 130k miles. My car is good condition and has been very reliable over the last several years. Recently both the drivers and passenger sliding doors stopped working and the wire that is part of the door mechanism popped and is now hanging from the back windows. I am at this time unable to open either door and there is no way to manually open the doors. I have children and they are having to climb from the front to the read. There was no indicator that this was becoming an issue. It as if toyota was aware of this problem, however they are not addressing it without charging outrageous prices. The dealer claimed wear and term, however my door may be opened and closed 1 to 2 times per day, if that. The response was very nonchalant as if was not a big deal. I am very disappointed in the issue and more disappointed in the response from my dealer, whom i have been dealing with since 1997. Toyota really needs to address this issue. This is not only a mechanical malfunction, it is a safety issue. *tr

The 2007 sienna van in question is one of many plagued by an array of door latch problems of many different varieties that were not covered under a very poorly executed so called 'recall' on this van. The whole design was poor from the start, and the consumer is getting taken to the bank by the dealers and the company. When they want a $1000 to fix one door that they know if faulty that's simply greed for one, and there are usually two doors at fault. Then if you do get them repaired, many times the fix doesn't last very long before your back again. They just had another recall for their 2011 and newer van doors, they still haven't fixed them yet. They might not open, then they might open without warning, then they might not open at all. Both of my doors have the same issue, and i've read about many more people that have the same problem. They fix this but not this, it's very frustrating & expensive, i can hardly believe how poorly toyota and their dealer network have handled this issue. I have been to toyota with my vehicle, it was a joke and it cost me $100 for much of nothing.

9/2/2016 vehicle was driven for about 1 hour without any road incident, parked in a shady location for about an hour and a half during which time a spontaneous crack, more than a foot long that not caused by an impact or any damage, appeared in the windshield on the driver's side. Toyota was notified and they refused to remedy the situation because of the age of the vehicle. However, the spontaneous cracking of a windshield seems to me to be a safety hazard just as much as exploding airbags, faulty shift levers, and spare tire holders that fall off and constitutes a pattern of disregard for safety on the part of toyota. This is not the first faulty windshield i have encountered with a toyota vehicle; previously i had a corolla that developed blisters between the layers of glass, also not the result of a road incident. However, they replaced that windshield when the vehicle was more than ten years old because it was a safety hazard.

While backing out of garage tapped (literally tapped) the edge of the drivers side view mirror on the garage frame. There was a popping sound and the mirror glass shattered, a 1 inch triangular piece of the housing popped out at the site of impact and a greenish yellow fluid sprayed onto the drivers window and door. I have inquired of toyota and the mirror maker (gentex) as to the nature of this fluid which irreparably stains car paint. No response as yet. I am a physician and would like to know what to tell a patient who might have the window down and gets this fluid on skin or in eyes. I understand this auto-dimming technology is in multiple makes of cars. What safety studies have been done on this "fluid"? I see from the internet that these side view mirror "explosions" have been happening randomly since at least 2004 in many makes of cars.

The vehicle stability control system (vsc) is malfunctioning. At random times when the vehicle is in motion the system goes off and begins applying the breaks. As i was accelerating on a city street, going uphill, the accelerator got stuck in the pedal-down position and the car started revving on its own. At the time, i was going about 10-15 mph and the car accelerated to about 25mph before i was able to stop it. I quickly removed my foot from the accelerator and stepped on the brakes which slowed down the acceleration, but did not stop the revving or the acceleration. I tapped the accelerator with my foot which seemed to loosen the accelerator (it became unstuck) and stopped the revving of the engine. I pulled over to calm myself before driving on. This was the third time i have experienced this; the other two times happened on the freeway and was resolved the same way; by stepping down on the accelerator to make it unstuck. The action is very similar to the emergency-brake engage/disengage function on the toyota sienna.

Transmission had been hesitating at times, but mechanic couldn't find any problems. At 60,400 miles, the transmission died completely and we were stranded far from home. This occurred on a well-maintained vehicle. Because it was over the 60 months/60,000 miles warranty, toyota offered no assistance. Between towing and replacing transmission, it cost us $5900. Even the mechanic was surprised by the failure at such low mileage, as toyota sienna is what he normally recommended to his customers looking for a reliable family vehicle. Driving car in town for about 10 minutes. Stopped at friends house and noticed when i backed out a large oil puddle. Got out and looked under car to see undercarriage covered in oil from front of car to midway down car. Could not tell where it was coming from so i called tow truck to take to toyota dealership. They found small hole in oil cooler line was spraying oil out. It was half empty of all its oil in that short amount of time. The dealership told me it was going to cost me $360.00 to replace oil cooler lines. I was very lucky i had not driven very far or probably would have been catastrophic engine failure. After quick check on internet, this appears to be a common issue with oil supply lines in this and other model years. Also looks like there is a new all metal oil supply line and a warranty extension (ze2), neither of which i was made aware of by my dealership and was very difficult for me to find.

I am planning to take this to a dealer. I hope they will fix it without any charge. It is not our fault. I am sure it is a mechanical problem in the door lock system. Our sienna is a well maintained, low mileage (just over 66,000 miles) vehicle. As of august 30 of this year, the transmission planetary gears have totally failed, leaving the vehicle and us stranded over 100 miles from home. The estimate for a complete transmission rebuild from a reputable transmission specialty shop is $4500, which is much lower than the estimate of $6500 that our toyota dealer gave us to install a remanufactured transmission. Based on the number of complaints i have read about on the internet, this particular transmission seems to have had significant problems with early failures around the 65,000 mile mark. This repair is on top of a $1000 repair just a month ago to replace both of the rear coil springs. Both springs failed at the same time, with the bottom coil rusting through and failing at the bottom spring support. As a materials engineer myself, i believe this is a design or production issue with these springs, for both to fail in the exact same spot on the same coil at the exact same time. (and it is worth pointing out that this vehicle has spent its life in northern virginia, a place that does not have much snow, or extensive use of road salt.) also, just about a year ago, we had to have the steering rack replaced at the dealer's recommendation, which was another $1000 repair. So in a period of just over a month, this vehicle is going to have almost $6000 of repairs to it (not including the steering rack repair.) this is completely unacceptable for a low mileage vehicle, especially for a toyota, which are normally highly reliable. This vehicle has been maintained by a reputable local toyota dealer, so all of the records are available to you.

In 2010, the previous owner had the oil cooler hose replaced under a recall. It appears to have failed again and all of the oil came out of the vehicle and sprayed all over the engine and undercarriage. This failure has been well-documented by other owners, happening at the same approximate mileage that mine did. Toyota's repairs to the problem are inadequate. At highway speed, the engine could seize, causing the driver to lose power and possibly control. Fortunately, i was on local roads when this happened to me. I do not know what, if any, engine damage occurred.

It will not stay shut, even when the door is locked, child lock is on, and the automatic door power is turned off. I had 4 children in the car at the time and this could of been a major incident! Apparently toyota knows they are having problems with the doors as they have extended the warranty on them. The latch on the passenger side door was replaced in april at 119,000, but now toyota is saying they will not cover it under the extended warranty because of the mileage being 122,257.. I was northbound on interstate 15 in utah and noticed smoke coming out from underneath my car. I pulled into a firestone service center where they diagnosed the issue to be a faulty oil cooler hose assembly on my 2007 toyota sienna mini-van. I contacted toyota dealer who said that the part had been upgraded from a rubber hose to a metal hose that would not burst like mine had. I was not informed of the option to upgrade prior to this incident and in fact had had my car into the dealer for an oil change the week before this incident. Firestone said i was down to two quarts of oil remaining in the oil pan. I feel lucky that i did not burn up my engine by stopping before the oil pan ran dry. Also, i am lucky that i was driving and not my wife with a car full of kids as there seemed to be a risk of a car fire based on the smoke. I am wondering now just how safe and reliable my car is and what other problems toyota is aware of that they have not yet told me about on my year make and model. By the way it kind of ruined the family vacation we were just starting.

I believe the product to be defective because of the issue that i had faced with this vehicle 2 weeks back while driving in the freeway. Two weeks back while i was driving with my family (wife and 2 kids) the vehicle on 275 s freeway @ 70mph on 8th march 2015 1:00 am, the engine check light turned on and i noticed the engine heat indicator fluctuate like a fuel indicator. I tried to slow down, but by that time i lost the power of the vehicle , which made it really hard for me to steer the vehicle between the lanes and take it out of freeway to a shoulder, the brakes were not functioning either. It was one of my scariest ride i had in my life (you can imagine yourself, engine loosing power while driving in a freeway, i was with my entire family, and not having control on the vehicle), it put me and my family at such a big risk. Glad i was able to some how take the vehicle out of the freeway and used the parking brake to bring the vehicle to a stop at a freeway shoulder @ 8 mile road exit. The next day, i took the vehicle to victory toyota of canton, a toyota dealer for diagnosis. After thorough diagnosis from the dealer, he figured out the engine water pump failed, which lead to the engine getting overheated and engine got damaged, which needs to be replaced. They came back with the cost of 10,000 usd for fixing the vehicle. The vehicle has only 66,860 miles on the odometer. *tr

I was parallel parking, backing into a parking space on a long bridge in a downtown/busy area. When i tapped the accelerator lightly to back up, my van suddenly lurched back (in reverse), accelerating so quickly i felt like i was in a rocket ship being lifted into the air. My wheel was turned in preparation for backing into the space. At a breakneck speed, my van accelerated in reverse, lurching up a large concrete step (all 4 tires), squealing erratically. Then it continued across a wide sidewalk/pedestrian area, the bumper hitting the bridge, immediately knocking about 20 feet of a concrete railing from the bridge into the river below. Luckily, my wheels basically bounced off the bottom portion of the bridge, which was secured by a large concrete block at the base of the bridge. This all happened in about 1 second... It didn't take long. The first thing i tried when this happened was hit the brakes. They didn't move. It was like they were locked. As my van bounced forward after it bounced off the concrete block, i was able to get it into park. I am lucky there were no pedestrians on the bridge, as they would have been crushed immediately by the concrete, and thrown into the river below. I'm also incredibly fortunate my van didn't continue in reverse, plunging itself, and me, into the river. It was a harrowing experience and two weeks later, i am still not quite past it. I am a safe driver and this is my first "real" accident in 25+ years of driving. My van is totaled. *tr

My wife was driving our 2007 toyota sienna on a major road when she noticed smoke coming from under it. She pulled into a parking lot and shut the engine off, avoiding engine seizure because within just a couple of minutes it had lost 2 qts of oil onto the ground due to a rupture in a rubber oil vvt-1 line. After reading online i found out this is a very common problem which toyota has refused to address properly. In 2009 siennas the line have been switched to all metal leaving the rest of their earlier customers with ticking time bombs. This type of failure is unacceptable, an engine seizure at 70mph will be deadly and the spilt oil on the road posses hazards as well. While traveling at 75mph on interstate, i noticed heavy white smoke trailing vehicle. Slowed and pulled over. Inspected engine and found large oil leak. No check engine or low oil lights illuminated prior to smoke. Entire bottom of the car coated with oil, including exhaust system, front passenger tire and rear tires. No oil registered on dipstick. Towed to toyota dealer where the car was purchased. Failed part was the oil cooler hose. Technician showed me the faulty rubber hose which had a pin-hole leak and there was barely one half quart in the engine, which holds 6.4 quarts. Judging by how often i had been looking in the rear view mirror due to traffic, i'd estimate the leak was only a few minutes in length and the engine would have been without oil and at highway speed very soon if i hadn't noticed. This is not an extraordinary event until you realize that the oil hose that failed was part of toyota's 90k oil cooler hose limited service campaign for 2gr-fe v6 engines in 2011. I had my car undergo this fix, which simply replaced a rubber hose with another rubber hose which was supposedly made from a compound that better resists hot oil. The replacement hoses are failing, which is what toyota tsb-0201-11 "oil cooler seep" (dec 21, 2011) is meant to cover and it replaces the rubber oil hoses with an all-steel hose. However, it only applies to customers still under the 36,000 mile warranty and with a "seeping" hose. Most 2007 sienna owners, like me, were well past warranty mileage in 2011, had no indication from toyota that the rubber oil hoses were potential problems and are only getting the steel hose after catastrophic engine oil loss. I was billed $532 for the oil cooler hose replacement and quoted $307 to replace the o2 sensor which was damaged by the volume of hot oil that sprayed on it. Huge oil loss at highway speeds. Toyota knows, but many owners do not. *tr

We had just returned from a trip, and picked up our sienna minivan at the parking lot. I opened the left side sliding door, put some luggage in the back seat, and then closed the door. The door slide closed but did not latch. I cycled the door again, and it still did not latch. I tried the right door and the same thing happened. We had to drive home with the warning beeping in our ears (this comes on if the car is in gear and the doors are not latched). The next morning we took the vehicle to our toyota dealer, and they said this is a very common problem, but our car was out of warranty, so they want $3700 to fix the doors. To us, this is a serious safety matter that the dealership admits is due to faulty parts -- they say they have seen a lot of this problem on siennas. A child could fall out in traffic, or a piece of luggage could become a hazard to other drivers. I would like to see toyota be compelled to cover this repair regardless of mileage -- they said the normal 36,000 mile warranty was extended to 120,000 miles for this problem, which they acknowledge as a defect, but that does not help the many toyota owners who keep their cars longer. Your assistance is most appreciated. *tr

Back on august 7, my vehicle was brought to balise toyota because of a check engine light. They replaced all 6 spark plugs and iginition coils 1 & 6. On october 24, the check engine light came back on and i brought it back to balise toyota. They saw misfire codes. The cleared the codes and couldn't duplicate it, so nothing was fixed. On december 7, the check engine light came on again. This time, dissatisfied with balise, i brought it to colonial auto. Again, dan murray, the owner of colonial auto found misfire codes and faulty ignition coils for numbers 2 - 5. This resulted in a total charge of $961. Was driving vehicle on freeway at 70 mph when engine noise started. I soon noticed the check engine light and the oil pressure light was on and stopped the van. Added more oil and restarted the van. I then investigated and found oil leaking out of a ruptured rubber oil cooler hose. I lost nearly 6 quarts of oil that had been pumped out on the highway. While attempting to drive to work while on a parkway (with no shoulder to pull over on) suddenly there was a dragging feeling as if the parking brake was applied. I immediately pulled off at the nearest exit and pulled over, my brake pedal felt extremely hard like it was stuck down. I put the car in park and pulled the brake pedal up with my foot, then pushed down on it several times again, at this time it seemed fine but i decided not to go to work but drive directly to the toyota dealer which was not far from where i was. The problem continued and i again pulled over and repeated the "pulling up of the brake pedal at which time i smelled something burning, i then continued about a block and a half to the dealership service department. Upon arrival that is when my dashboard lit up with several warning lights. After the service department diagnosed the problem of a bent bracket on my brake pedal assembly i did some research of my own and discovered that there was a factory recall of the 2011 toyota sienna's for the exact same problem (the part number 47110-08080). Neither the dealership, toyota motor company or toyota extra care (the very expensive extended warranty that i purchased) wanted to take responsibility for the problem. I was told that the brake pads and rotors would not have been damaged if i did not excessively drive the vehicle, when i asked them what they considered excessive they could not answer. I explained to them that there was no shoulder on the parkway that i was traveling on, but i did exit at the first possible one and drove approximately 1 mile to the dealership/service department. I am extremely unhappy and quite honestly not comfortable with the vehicle and the toyota motor company itself. I hope that toyota will accept responsibility for this faulty part and take the proper measures to correct this very unsafe issue! *tr

Failure of a defective rubber oil cooler hose occurred at app. 5:30 pm on 2/11/2013 while the sienna was being driven on a city street. The vehicle rapidly lost most of its oil, and incurred significant and very costly engine damage (resulting in the need for replacement of the engine short-block, plus other collateral engine repairs that the toyota dealership and toyota engineering eventually determined necessary). See toyota technical service bulletin t-sb-0201, dated 12/21/2011. The oil "seepage" term used by toyota in this tsb is a complete misnomer, as the oil loss was rapid and resulted in oil spraying profusely under the front of the vehicle. Toyota had not previously communicated any information to its unsuspecting customer regarding this specific defective part. On 3/3/2011, the customer discovered through his own personal research the scope and magnitude of toyota's pervasive failure history with a very similar defective rubber oil supply hose. The defective rubber oil supply hose is the subject of a current multi-part limited service campaign (lsc) prior launched by toyota, however toyota is incredibly claiming to the customer that this lsc campaign (which is set to expire on 3/31/2013) does not cover the defective oil cooler hose. In the customer's opinion, toyota has demonstrated gross negligence in not including coverage of both defective rubber oil hose parts under the current lsc (or, not launching a separate lsc addressing the defective oil cooler hose). This defective rubber oil cooler hose could be described as a ticking time bomb for owners of affected toyota highlanders (2008 - 2011), highlander hvs (2011), siennas (2007 - 2011), and venzas (2009 - 2011). The customer is continuing interface with toyota, for toyota to accept full financial responsibility for all customer costs incurred in this matter.

I checked the liquid and was not sure if it was coolant or transmission fluids so i called my mechanic and he recommended that i should have it towed in .It turns out that the problem was that a connector at the bottom of the radiator cracked and was mixing the coolant with the transmission fluid ,it appears that a defective fitting was the problem. My mechanic said if i would have continued driving with these 2 fluids mixing i would have damaged the transmission beyond repair for a bill of $3,000. On mon 10/22/2012 at 11:15 am i experienced sudden uncontrolled acceleration driving my van. I was traveling on i-696e in detroit at a constant 70mph, then slowed to 45mph due to construction. As traffic cleared the construction, i pushed the accelerator pedal to pass a semi-truck. I felt the accelerator continue to depress, i completely pulled my foot off but the pedal did not come back nor did the vehicle slow down. Rather, it did just the opposite and continued to accelerate. I attempted to brake hard with no response--the vehicle did not slow down. Then i put the van in neutral to slow down the engine with no results, the van continued increasing 60+mph with no foot on accelerator. This is when i became extremely frightened. The vehicle was pulling from side to side. I looked down to see if there was any interference from the floor mat and none was seen. I tapped gas pedal - no response. Next i put van back in drive and braked --no response again. Then i downshifted to 4th, the engine did not slow, and further downshifted to 3rd gear. Finally, the engine responded and slowed. I used the gas pedal cautiously as i then shifted to 4th so that i could exit the freeway. I parked at my office & immediately called my husband first and explained what happened and i then immediately called the our toyota suburban dealer. They told me to bring it in for inspection. I was still shaking when i brought the vehicle in and extremely upset. After two inspections, they stated sudden acceleration was caused by the floor mat. Although this seems reasonable, it does not explain why brakes failed to overcome the engine, and shifting to neutral failed to disengage the transmission. The vehicle scares me to death. The concern is the defective rubber pad on the switch in the sienna?S rear liftgate. The rubber pad under the switch that is used to open the liftgate on the back of the sienna has gone soft and tar like. If i grab a piece it pulls right off like chewing gum. The black tar like substance gets on your hands too and is hard to wash off. The safety issue is cold weather, once it goes below 35 degree f the door handle switch will not allow the door to open. I the event of a crash you couldn't open the rear hatch to exit. This part is unmistakably defective. If the rubber just cracked i could see it as a wear item (like tires or wiper blades). Struts on the rear power lift gate have failed and rear gate will open and immediately start closing with no way to stop it. This occurs when using interior button or remote key fob. If opened manually, the gate slams closed with the potential for significant injury due to the force of the dropping gate. Research indicates this was a problem with 2004-2006 models and struts were replaced free of charge. Apparently the same struts were used on 2007 models, however the dealer would not warranty replacement. It took about 15 minutes for them to install two new struts for $362.00. Driving on the freeway @ 85mph when the check engine light came on. Promptly, i pulled the toyota manual which said could be faulty gas cap and may go off with consecutive drives once fixed or if it stays on after to go to dealer. The car was running fine so i headed to my exit to pull over. Shortly, thereafter a horrible diesel engine grinding noise. I had just had my tires rotated (replaced just one month prior) that weekend and the oil changed the weekend before. As i was about to pull over the engine oil light flashed. When i pulled over i immediately checked the oil stick dry we had been given the run around about the part by mossy nissan that the part was on backorder and was part of the recall. The vehicle was later towed to toyota of poway and for $500+ to inspect and replace this hose(not part of recall) wanted another $3000 to tear down the engine and the addl charges to fix i have religiously had my oil changed and have always had my toyota certified mechanic work on my car. I contacted toyota consumer service for assistance in fixing the problems they indicated they would not help since the hoses were not part of the recall. The hoses are 2 rubber hoses that have clamps leading to a triangular metal piece. The hole was not in a location that something could have pierced according to my independent mechanic who tried to get the part from the first dealer....Which leads to the fact that these are faulty hoses that deteriorated. Toyota has offered a goodwill payment of $750 towards a new or used certified toyota car. But that is at a 20% interest rate. It is my hope that others will see this and get this fixed before they end up like me single mom of 4 without a car working 5 days a week 150 miles from my babies and can't even go home to see them till the weekend. June 12, 2012, odometer 45,000 miles, 2 hours from home, drivers side manual door would not close and latch shut. Called nashua, nh toyota dealership, told lots of problems with doors, need to make appointment, average repair over $1,000. Took to my regular mechanic and problem temporarily fixed for $244.80(latch assy seized up. Remove, lube, reinstall. If repair doesn't last, new part needed. Cost for part only, $570.23, plus labor). July 2013, odometer 65,000 miles, same door not latching again, door slides open during acceleration. Called toyota dealership in nashua, nh, told door not covered under "latch assembly extended warranty" because door is manual. Have made appointment with my regular mechanic again to see what can be done to fix problem. My vehicle has 2 sliding doors, drivers side is manual, passenger side is automatic. However, the manual door has a motor and latch assembly to pull the door in and latch it after it's been slid closed. This function is not working properly. The extended warranty i received from toyota in july 2012 states " this warranty extension is for your rear sliding door latch assemblies for a period of 9 years from the vehicles date of first use or 120,000 miles whichever comes first". There is no mention the door must be an automatic door. I believe toyota is trying to limit how many warranty fixes they do by giving customers incorrect information. I'm also beginning to have problems with the passenger side automatic door not closing. However i can only afford the time and money for one fix at a time. There are huge safety issues here and toyota should be held responsible. *tr

My incident is a recurring nightmare. Driver's side automatic door is not latching properly. While going down the road at 50mph the door, without any warning, flew open and would not close. I had to drive with my arm behind me holding the door closed until i got home. It took my husband 2 hours to finally get the door closed. This has also happened on the passenger side door. That was fixed to a tune of $3000.00. When i spoke to toyota they apologized, and assured me that they would look into the matter. Something should be done before someone is seriously injured or killed by their product. *tr

Then i went to the website and found out nhtsa has opened a preliminary evaluation regarding 2004 and 2005 sienna tire pressure and reglulating system. When driving on the highway the tire pressure light is on even if the pressure is ok. It is important to have it function correctly for a vehicle with a rft tire. Driver's side power sliding door failed, would not close (door continually re-opened itself instead of latching closed). After setting the doors to "manual," the same door would not open at all. With two infants, it became necessary to crawl over the infant seat installed in the passenger side rear captain's chair in order to reach the infant seat installed behind the driver's seat. I have had this van since new. Air conditioning stopped working after 4 years with less than 60000 miles. First transmission problem started at 68000 miles. The transmission problem first reared its ugly head when i was backing out of a parking spot one early morning in november 2011. It sounded as though i had run over something. After getting out of the van and looking around it appeared as though everything looked good. I got back in the van and started to drive and could hear a rubbing sound coming from the front of the van and noticed it would slow down quicker when taking my foot off of the accelerator, so much so that your body would lean forward. Also, i noticed the van would now slow down instead of picking up speed when coasting down a hill which is something it had never done before. I brought the van into my local toyota dealership that week to have it looked at but they said that was the way it was supposed to run. I told them 68 000 miles of driving experience since it was new has told me otherwise. They persisted with their "everything was as it should be" story and that it could be the brakes sticking occasionally. I even told them that the rubbing sound goes away when shifted into neutral which would eliminate the brakes as the cause. The vans transmission finally failed in february of 2013 at 82 000 miles after i had brought the issue up 4 times with my toyota dealership while getting other service completed, and yes they did change the transmission fluid before all of this happened. The transmission diagnosis and subsequent repair/rebuild quoted by the toyota dealership was $4000. Mr. Transmission charged me $3100. Like me, you have either already purchased a toyota product or are considering the purchase. All i can say is google transmission and problems and you'll find lots to read. Good luck. *tr

I just learned that there were many complaints in regards of multiple cracks on the vehicle dash. I confronted the dealer regarding the same they stated that i was in need of placing a complaint about it in way for them to consider the same and authorize a repair. The very same day i wanted to place the complaint and they stated that the same is in a "suspense status". I just went through the complaints here reported and noted it is a recurrent vehicle manufacturer damage. I believe if i, as owner, followed the instrucions of not using any conditioner or any abbrassive cleaner but a mild soap and water with a damp cloth, the dash is coming appart as it is. I also think this should be considered as a safety hazard because of being the dash where the airbags are stored, when deployed on an accident could cause also the the dash to crack and its pieces be a projectile object. *tr

After being on hold for 30 minutes, gentleman says the cable and motor are not covered for our vin#. It would have been covered if the door latch had broken. I asked if he could send me anything in writing as to reason for not being covered and he said no. I do not think toyota is treating its customers fairly. Had 2007 sienna serviced for blinking air bag light at toyota dealership. Service dept. On 05/29/2012 car was serviced again for blinking air bag light; however, service dept. Stated that the light was not blinking at the time the car was serviced, so the problem could not be assessed. Funny how the light keeps coming on, but the problem could never be assessed, and now it costs $1,100 to fix. Needless to say, we are not having it fixed and we pray for no accidents--pretty scary. My complaint involves the toyota sienna minivan (mine is a 2007). I believe toyota is aware of a defect in the rear ac lines which causes them to prematurely corrode near the rear axle. This causes a release of the refrigerant into the atmosphere and mandates the lines be replaced by the owner at a cost of app. $1200. My vehicle was purchased new in may 2007 and has 45k miles- no accidents, always properly maintained. This van was recently recalled for excess corrosion in the spare tire carrier which causes the spare tire to fall out. The following is a quote from their press release: the recall includes certain 1998 through 2010 model year sienna 2wd vehicles equipped with a spare tire and operated in cold climate areas with high road salt use. In addition to the district of columbia, vehicles currently registered in the following cold climate states with high road salt usage are covered by this recall: connecticut, delaware, illinois, indianna, kentucky, massachusetts, maryland, maine, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, virginia, vermont, wisconsin and west virginia. The corrosion resistance of the spare tire carrier in insufficient when vehicles are operated in areas where a large amount of road salt is applied. In the worst case, the carrier cable may fail and the spare tire could become separated from the vehicle... The dealership service rep stated to me that he sees this failure very often, and the parts dept. Keeps the parts in stock due to frequency of replacement. The replacement parts have not be improved and carry the same part #. I called toyota's customer care line and was told they would not provide any assistance. Please search online for others with the same problem- there are many. R134a refrigerant leaking into the atmosphere is a severe environmental problem and toyota should be held responsible for repairs and costs to consumers. *tt

The steering wheel makes a ticking or clunking sound as it is turned back and forth or when a bump affects one of the front tires which naturally moves the steering wheel one way or the other. There also seems to be excessive "slop" in the steering wheel movement. Dealer has looked at it and said it is a faulty "intermediate steering shaft" and it needs to be replaced. This is a known toyota issue with other models (2004-2011?). There are two u-joints on the intermediate shaft. One or both of them is wearing out, causing the sound and excessive play. 9/26 approximately 4:30 p.M. 2006 toyota sienna suddenly accelerated in driveway as i was turning left into garage. I could not stop vehicle and it crashed into the garage. The only thing that stopped the vehicle from crashing through the garage was the back left wheel hitting the door frame and metal rail of the garage door opener, pulling it down onto the car. The entire left side of the vehicle was damaged along with the side of the garage. We bought the vehicle new and have had no previous mechanical problems with it. We contacted toyota on 9/26, and 9/27. They gave us a case manager and case number and on 9/29 stated that a representative would be appointed to look at the vehicle in 10-14 days and it would take another 30 days for the inspection. They stated if the vehicle was moved, it might be considered "tampered with". We had to have our garage repaired, so had vehicle towed to a toyota dealership on 10/1 with instructions not to start vehicle or do anything to it. Our car insurance adjuster would not give an estimate on the vehicle while it was lodged in the side of the garage and felt that it might incur additional damage when pulled out if the overhead door fell on it. Contractor was present at towing to remove overhead door and jack up door frame. $3,500 damage to garage. Car adjuster will do to dealership to give estimate on vehicle . I was the only occupant and was not hurt. We have been pulling in this garage since 1983 and with mini-vans since 1987 and know how slowly you have to go - 4 to 5 miles an hour or slower to make the almost 90 degree turn. It suddenly accelerated as i turned. How do we get toyota to expedite this? My husband and i have jobs in different communities and need our vehicle. We want them to examine, acknowledge problem, put on recall list and cover our expenses. We feel waiting 2 weeks for a representative to come and another 30 days for a determination is not a timely manner. *tr

My name is [xxx] and i have a 2007 toyota sienna with an airbag light that intermittently comes on and off. As a mechanic, i researched my airbag light diagnostic trouble code B0111 open in side squib rh circuit and there is a tsb on repairing the airbag light. It says to replace the airbag assembly in the passenger front seat. As mechanic, i know that when the airbag light is on, the airbags will not deploy in an emergency situation. Therefore, i don't see why a safety issue such as this is not a recall. So instead of a recall, i must now spend $900 on just the airbag, nevermind the cost to install it? I do not believe that i should be responsible for such a costly repair due to the fact that this is a safety issue that i could not have prevented. The tsb number is t-sb-0252-08 from my repair program, mitchell on demand and it says toyota's reference number is [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the dealer only performed part of recall 10v160000 (structure); the cable was on backorder and was not able to be installed. The contact had not experienced any failures, but the dealer placed the tire in the center rear of the vehicle and the contact was concerned. The contact was told it would be approximately three months before the part would arrive. The current mileage was 31,322. Updated 1/19/2010 *cn the consumer sold the vehicle on 12/28/10. Toyota has created a hazardous and dangerous situation by not completing a recall. They have removed the spare tire from the bottom of my minivan during a aoe recall, and placed it unsecured in the back of the car. This will now become a deadly "missile" in case of an accident or any maneuver at speed. The recall will not be completed until the end of august (as per toyota). This is another example of toyota's disregard for safety and inability to resolve design problems. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota sienna. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed the safety feature on the automatic passenger siding door would not function. The sliding door closed abruptly onto the upper arm of the passenger exiting the vehicle. Immediately, the automatic door mechanism was engaged and the door released open. The failure occurred on two different times. The passenger sustained minor injury to the upper arm area. The vehicle had not been repaired or diagnosed at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. The vin was unavailable.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota sienna. The contact received a recall notice for recall 10v160000 (structure) and took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. The dealer took the spare tire from underneath the vehicle, placed it inside the rear of the vehicle and tied it down with a bungee cord. The contact did not feel that the repair was adequate or that the bungee cord would hold the tire securely. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vin was unavailable. The current mileage was approximately 32,000. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.

The installed dvd navigation system in our sienna has failed. This in it's self is not a safety concern, but it's failure has also caused the back-up camera to become inoperative. We use this extensively and the sudden loss of it is almost as bad as loosing all your rear view mirrors. *tr

Rubber coating on handle on rear door lift melted approximately 5 years ago...Was actually oozing down. Leaves fingers with black gunk on them that is very difficult to wash off whenever opening this hatch. Notified dealer but was left with "tough luck" (in my words). Fl vehicle (hot almost year round).

I was pulling up into my garage driveway, and applied the brake and then without any kind of warning my toyota 2007 sienna started accelerating and i couldn't stop it, even though i was pressing on the brake as hard as i could. It ran through my garage door and took off half of the garage housing on the left side, and then it rammed into the wall separating the garage from the house. Out of desperation i shifted from drive to park and that finally stopped the van. So far we are awaiting an investigation, in the meantime though our lives are in limbo because of this. *tr

While having service performed on my 2007 sienna this past summer, i was told by the service representative that the spare tire on my van needed to be removed because of a defective cable that would allow it to drop to the roadway from the underside of the van's frame. At that time i was told that a recall would soon be announced so that i would receive a replacement cable and could once again drive with a spare tire. It has been several months now since my spare tire was removed, and i have received no information whatsoever from toyota regarding this issue. I am frankly uncomfortable driving without a spare tire and consider this a personal safety issue. *tr

The transmission was doing what felt like "neutral drops" at low speeds, where i would shift into drive, get the "clunk" that i normally associate with the transmission dropping into first, then depress the gas slightly to start moving. The problem is that the engine would rev suddenly, and then catch first, which as you know, causes a sudden lurch of the entire vehicle since the engine had been revving just before it caught. It would also occasionally just "lose" the gear while driving at low speeds. On 6/12/2010 the transmission went out on me while i was driving home (with my family) on the fwy (north 5) from legoland. I have to across 5 lanes to get to the shoulder. I got the van brand new on 3/28/2007 (w/only3 miles on the van) from carson toyota, ca...I paid $28000 w/package3 (out the door price)...As of 6/12/2010 the van has under 14,000miles. The toyota dealer replaced the transmission with no charge (still under powertrain warranty). Transmissions aren't supposed to go out that quickly, it definitely seems to be a quality control issue. Under 14,000 miles there has been no service due so it's not a matter of missing scheduled maintenance. This is obviously a very valid safety concern. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota sienna. The contact stated the steering wheel began to abnormally shake while driving at an unknown speed. She then attempted a turn and the power steering failed. The steering wheel became extremely stiff and difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the rack, pump and steering belt was replaced. The dealer also performed a steering flush. The manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 45,000.

Left side rear mechanism broke. Cable snapped on the sliding door. Almost hit my child in the face. Power sliding no longer operable must open manually which is very hard for a child. Cost to repair is $2000.00 by the local toyota dealership. Toyota did cover it under warranty after i called the toyota customer care number because it was just days after the 3 year warranty had expired. 8/11 right side rear mechanism broke (other door). Cable snapped again. Told we should not use door until repaired which we will be paying for this time. Seems like these doors are poorly designed and dangerous when inoperable. *tt

Engine/powertrain hesitates for 1-3 seconds when accelerating slowly, or accelerating quickly after slowing down such as when slowing down in an intersection, making a turn, or in slow traffic. Engine has piston slap for 3-5 minutes after a cold start in weather below 40 f. The slap becomes louder with colder temps. Shifting into gear with a cold engine can cause the vehicle to lurch due to high idle. Driver must have foot firmly on brake before shifting into gear. Problem diminishes if engine is allowed to warm for 45-60 seconds. When parking, the driver must keep the brake fully depressed, shift into park, pause 1-2 seconds before releasing brake. It seems there is a brief delay between gear lever being placed into park, and powertrain actually going into neural/park position. Releasing the brake too soon will allow vehicle to roll ahead 3-6 inches. *tr

The handle on the hatch of our 2007 toyota sienna melted last year and only works off and on. It is very difficult to open, leaves black residue on your hand in the summer and freezes and won't work at all in the winter. Upon calling the dealership and toyota i was told there was no recall and this must be fixed at my cost due to warranty expiration. *tr

I was parking my vehicle in the bixby hospital parking lot. I pulled into a space directly across from a vehicle, and put my foot on the brake. As i was putting my 2007 toyota in park the car lurched forward as if someone was pressing hard on the accelerator. The force was so hard that i hit a pole and then into the car in from of me, pushing the other car back about three feet into a pedestrian.. *tr

2007 toyota sienna - excessive tire wear. I have 83,000 miles on my sienna. During that time, i have had to replace tires 5 times which averages about 17,000 miles per set of tires. I have voice my complaint to the local dealer and toyota corp and have been told that there is no solution to this problem. The local toyota service department stated this is common with sienna's and that they rarely see a vehicle with more than 20,000 miles on a set of tires. The tires will start to 'cup' at 10,000 miles regardless of frequency of rotation. The tire's wear rapidly on the inside tread wall and require very close monitoring. I have used top line models of tires like bridgeston, michelin and dunlop all with the same result. *tr

2007 toyota sienna rear door latch rubber assembly has melted and becomes hot to the touch. Appears to be a fire issue. A relative with the same make and model in the maryland area reports the same problem. Numerous incidents online report the same problem, with a disturbing issue of the rear tail gate inoperable in freezing weather. Which would appear to be another safety issue of retrieving individuals in an emergent situation. *tr
