  Nissan is recalling certain vehicles that were equipped with a garmin nuvi model 750 navigation system. The batteries contained in the affected gps units can overheat.

• Recall 67466 [USA]: If the strut insulator is cracked, there is a potential for the strut rod to come out of its mounting position, which could affect vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash.
  Nissan is recalling certain model year 2009 and 2010 altima and maxima passenger cars. The upper front strut insulators may have been manufactured out of specification resulting in a potential for the strut insulator to crack.

  On certain vehicles, the metal upper strut insulators may have been manufactured incorrectly and, as a result, could fail. In the worse case this could allow the strut rod to come out of its mounting position, adversely affecting vehicle handling. This could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the front strut insulators.

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The heater core in the car started leaking and it cost almost $2400 to replace it. Dealer told me that it is due to the fact that the whole dashboard in the car needs to be taken out and is very labor intensive. This is a big expense and wanted to check if there has been a repeated issue like this.

I purchased my 2010 nissan in 2016. I had no issues up until now when i made my final payment. I do not travel no more than 2 hours on my car once a month. Outside of 2 hour travels i drive 15 minutes to work everyday. Wednesday, may 19, 2021 my car stop working out of the blue! When i was driving home, i was at a stop light. When it was time for me to go, my car did not move. So that’s when i pushed the gas pedal all the way down just so the car could move. If it went over 20 miles it will start shaking and jerking. I took my car to nissan and they told me it’s my transmission. How is this possible? And they are asking fit 5,000.00! I don’t have that. The airbag passenger notification light keeps blinking on in the dash. It can be reset, but as soon as a passenger sits in the chair the light comes on again. The problem was a step motor , the car had no power , now after paying 3k for a new radiator the check engine light dates back to a recall years back nissan had. This is unsafe . I could've lost my life . I still have a lean on my vehicle it has worn control arms , and cvt issues galore if this is not fixed someone will be killed i promise you . Dash is cracking and dash material is becoming soft and semi-sticky. It is not yet to the point of being melted and producing glare like 2008/2009 models but is quickly headed in that direction. Car is garaged when not in use.

The material the dash is made from gets extremely hot and melts, and the upper dash has a glare that shines and comes off the dash into the windshield area & causes a major distraction from the glare. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil consumption fractured and was leaking into the engine. Also, the transmission needed to be replaced. The automatic locks aren't working. Only the front passenger and back drivers side will lock and unlock with the key fob or switches. The back passenger side will lock with the fob and switch, but it won't unlock. Drivers side has to be locked and unlocked manually.

Vehicle was in motion whilst turning at at a junction. Back end of the vehicle swung out of the turn as if on ice. Stopped the vehicle and discovered that the rear right-hand wheel was bent as if the wheel was falling off. On further inspection i discovered the rear subframe had broken up.

The vehicle was taken to hall nissan chesapeake (3417 western branch blvd, chesapeake, va 23321, (877) 475-0728) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure line was leaking fluid, both control arms needed to be replaced, and the steering gear assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the high pressure line was not. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 145,194.

Around 20 mph when braking to a stop the rpms do not go down and the car continues to accelerate. I have to brake hard or put the car into neutral to stop. This is an intermittent event- once every 5- 6 months.

The brake light switch has failed on our 2010 altima 2.5. This is a known problem with nissans and is in fact the subject of a nissan service bulletin, number ntb10-139. The defective original nissan switch causes a no start situation if it occurs when the car is not running, and failure of the brake lights to light when braking if it occurs while driving. Nissan has released a revised switch to replace the defective original design, but in reviewing transportation.Gov and contacting the dealer, there is no recall or manufacturer voluntary campaign to remedy this dangerous defect. We are in the process of completing the repair at our own expense and my initiate legal action against nissan usa if there is not already a class action lawsuit.

Dashboard is melting/incredibly sticky. Creates a glare on windshield, particularly on sunny/bright days, that can make it difficult and dangerous to drive. I've heard that older models have this problem.

My struts beginning to sound horrible. I was traveling and as i would speed up the rpms would go higher making a whistling noise. Service engine light came on. I went had it put on a computer and it's said transmission and torque converter clutch solenoid.

My car is showing a crack which started on the left side of the dashboard and has slowly stretched all the way over to the other end. I need my car for transport and am afraid that one day the dashboard could open up while i am driving, which could cause major damage to me and my granddaughters. I am a senior with no income at this time and unable to make any upgrades or repairs. Please let me know if there is anything you can do or if i need to reach out to anyone else that can help me resolve this issue. *tr

Dash board is melting and creating shiny surface which creates a glare on windshield. Depending on time of the day and angle of the sun, that glare prevents clear vision to the road. Law suit for similar issue was already approved in florida and nissan replaced dash boards for florida residents. I called nissan and they were not willing to fix it even it relates to safety and visibility. This issue is widespread and can not be treated as state wise. Also i am not sure if this melting dashboard is creating any harmful fumes that i need to be worried about. I have attached image and can share more image if needed. Depending on time and angle of the sun this gets even worse when you are driving an sun hits the dash board at certain angle.

2010 nissan altima coupe dashboard is melting. Numerous complains are in online threads but nissan is not taking responsibility. This issue is expeirenced in years from 2008 to 2013. This is a severe safety hazard that needs to be resolved by nissan. Only occurs in hot climate.

The very first issue was vehicle shut down on its own while in airport traffic. It restarted right away but cuts off immediately you put it in drive or reverse. After several attempts, the vehicle started and drove fine for a few days and the issue started again. When i took it to get checked out the problem refused to replicate. The current issue now is that the rpm jumps up and down while driving causing the engine to rev up while vehicle de-accelerates on its own. Vehicle sometimes runs like the emergency brake is engaged. When you put it in drive or reverse it takes a few seconds to engage the gear.

My airbag light keeps flashing intermittently when car is on.

Vehicle will not go past 60 mph, then within 24 hours would not go past 40 mph, within 24 more hours, vehicle will not accelerate over 20 mph and has extreme power loss. Was evaluated by transmission shop who confirmed the transmission is failing.

I have been having stalling issues with the cvt transmission in my car for over a year. Took it to the nissan dealership here where i live on 12/17 for the issue only received a change of fluid no error codes. Spent almost 300.00 that day. Took it back again on 1/18 for the same issue, not even a month apart. Was told that from the video i showed the nissan worker it was my transmission going bad. I had to pay 110.00 to hook it up to the machine this day. After leaving my car at the dealership for over a week i was told that they could not honor the 120,000 extended warranty because they were not able to duplicate the problem or pull any error codes. They performed an update to the transmission which they stated was needed and that "should" fix the issue. Fast forward to 11/3/18 less than 3000 miles later it's stalling again and won't go past 5 mph with the gas paddle all the way to the floor on a flat surface street. I had to pull over because there were cars behind me and it was an unsafe situation. I have documented all of this and have videos to prove everything that i speak of. There was a time where i was driving on the interstate and doing the speed limit of 70 and all of a sudden my car slowed down on its own to 50 and would not accelerate. I had to try to make it over to the shoulder without getting hit by 18 wheelers zooming past me. That in itself is a safety issue and concern for me.

My dashboard is melting. You can't put anything on it or even touch it without getting a very sticky residue on your hands. It is also a major hazard when it is sunny out. When the sun hits the melting part of the dash, i am blinded. Nissan needs to do the right thing & replace these dashboards. I have been having problems with vehicle bucking took to nissan dealer was told 1 ignition coil and spark plugs paid to have them replaced but also had mentioned it smelt like raw eggs to the dealer. A few months later same thing took to dealer said another ignition coil i approved for them to replace the remaining 3 ignition coils so i wouldn't have this problem again and again i told them that it smelt like raw eggs. Now the service engine soon light is on and the code is for the catalytic convertor. Was told that the extended warranty went out in april. I would like some assistance with this. All the issues was when driving at both hwy speeds and city speeds

When accelerating from 20mph to 40mph the rpms increase to 3rpm and the transmission hesitates to change the gear. It seems to be an issue with the tcm (transmission control module). I bought my car brand new in 2010. It has 220,000 miles on it. I did some research online and saw this us a known issue with the car. Nissan also sent out a bulletin ntb10-121b. They should recall these cars and fix the issue at their cost. Attached is the pdf of the bulletin.

Toyota prius hybrid recall - toyota hybrid prius system which is currently under two hybrid system recalls used by nissan altima hybrids 2007-2011. My vehicle unexpectly and suddenly loss engine power while driving on the highway, no warning lights or prior mechanical issues prior to this event. Vehicle was towed to a nissan dealership, where it was diagnosed to the engine wiring hardness which connects to the engine control unit (hybrid computer)and damaged multiple electrical system components (ecu, coils, and auxilary battery. Car caught fire while driving...Completely burned up

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan altima. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact struck a pothole and the air bag indicator illuminated immediately. The contact stated that "air bag off" was displayed on the instrument panel. Priority nissan richmond (16301 priority way, colonial heights, virginia 23834, (804) 414-0550) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

2010 nissan altima has an extremely dangerous safety defect that many other consumers are also experiencing, not just me. (see nhtsa id # 10899578). I have almost been rear-ended several times, sometimes with my small children in the car, because of this problem. The extremely dangerous safety defect is the car turns off completely while coming to stop, when stopped, and/or when accelerating from stop. All systems turn off including the ability to steer and stop. After turning off, the car will not immediately turn back on. Took the car to the dealer several time but the dealer was unable to diagnose the problem. The dealer replaced the transmission, since it had a recall and was under warranty, to see if it fixed the problem. It did not, as the vehicle turned off this morning, 8/14/18, when coming to a stop on a main city street. I was almost rear-ended because the car unexpectedly turned off and the brake lights do not seem to work when this happens. The car did not turn back on for several minutes. There needs to be an investigation and recall of this extremely dangerous safety defect.

My vehicle was parked inside a garage. Upon attempting to move the vehicle it would not start. My key light was/is illuminated on the dash, car goes into the on position but does not start vehicle. Unable to turn off after pushing the "start button".

Mechanic found cracked struts and advised is a danger to drive long distance. There is a recall for this very problem (09v358000) for my year and vehicle type. My vin included in recall. Why? The estimate for the repair is $940 + a $140 diagnostic. The car is jerky and makes a loud noise when driving. I am now confined to only drive locally until i can afford the $1k cost to repair. Why is my car not included in recall?

Driving on i95 from gatlinburg my car started make a horrible whining noisie, shuck it's has done before just not this bad, it has before but i didn't think much of it and just stopped and let it sit and it stopped . Now it happens everyttime i get in the car. Or that i have to beg it go when it's in gear, when i pull out i'd doesn't go. I've notice if i slam it from to park forcefully to drive it seems to work fine until the whining and jerking start. Takata recall while driving on the highway in traffic the vehicle started to shutter and with no where safe to pull over continued down the road. The vehicle took so long to get up to speed i thought something terrible was going to happened. When i got to a safe place i pulled over. I turned the car off and waited. I restarted the car and decided to try again and immediately it started shuttering and no power i instantly pulled over call my husband and then called a towing service. I've read since this happened its more common and dangerous than i ever imagined..

The driver side airbag deployed without any impact upon making a right turn, subsequently, the driver lost control of the vehicle with airbag deployment making it impossible to and ran over a curb causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

My 2010 nissan altima has a "melting" dash, particularly around the defroster area. It is sticky in other parts of dash on sides and where it is molded. This problem has been reported on nbc5 in dallas, tx in the month of july for 2008-2009 models. To my surprise, my 2010 has same issue. I took car to dealer and they said they have seen lots altima's with the same problem and nothing could be done except replacement, over $1000 dollars. I am still paying on this car (since 2014) and feel it should be fixed by nissan since it is caused by them using a sub standard material. This car was manufactured in mississippi according to nissan. It is a safety issue as it continues to disintegrate in high heat. Cannot park in sun & can't put sun screen up where melted, it sticks & makes permanent marks in dash. Since it appears shiny it gives off a glare on windshield. Nissan should be responsible for a fix. This is my second altima and it did not have this issue! I can provide photo on request.

Cvt transmission completely gave out today on the highway and almost caused a terrible accident. My car was going 65 one minute and then lost complete power. Started searching online for more info only to find hundreds of other owners with similar complaints from all models and years from 2007 to 2016! My vehicle is included in a special warranty issued by nissan because they are aware of this issue but it's only valid under 120k miles. Now i have no car, no money to fix this one or buy another. The unreliability has ruined my life and i don't know how i'm going to get by. Sadly, the fear of what i'm going to do with my future is only second to the fear i felt this morning when the car i've poured a lot of money into and take tremendous care of almost got me killed. No dash lights. No warning. No previous knowledge of this very serious problem. Fine one day, completely undrivable the next. I was on 83 north in md and almost got rear ended by a semi doing 70+ mph in the left lane.

Problem: accelerating on highway and car would not switch into higher gear preventing car from going more than 20 mph on a 75 mph highway. Nissan technician diagnosed that the problem was the cvt transmission and the repairs would have been covered 100% under the warrantee extension if the car had been within the 120,000 limit. Our car was just 8% over that limit but nissan's consumer affairs department would not help in any way. The representative said nissan acknowledged the problem with the transmissions and doubled the warrantee but that was all they were going to do. The same problems that are causing these cvt transmissions to fail at 120,000 miles are causing them to fail at 131,000 miles in my case. Nissan should be held accountable for repairing the defective transmissions. I am not certain why a recall has not been mandated. This is a documented and acknowledged problem and it is a safety concern to lose power while driving.

My vehicle slows severely down when i drive in steep hills..

My dash board is super sticky/tacky, and has a glare when driving, when trying to remove the front pieces with a pry tool, the dash peels off in chunks and remains stuck on your finger/ pry tool like a melted wax. It's not the same consistency as the glove box, you can stick your fingernail in it and it leaves intentions, my paint is also coming off in large spots all over the car.

The dashboard is melting and has a very bad glare when the sun is out. This causes vision to be very poor and unsafe to drive and other cars and pedestrian. It is very dangerous and difficult to see while driving due to the glare. The issue with the dashboard is the same as the lawsuit that was filed against nissan by a girard gibbs and nissan lost. But it was for 2008-2009 models. I took the car to nissan and the cost to replace the dashboard is $2634.

My engine is making a knocking sound when accelarating and it has excessive blowby with check engine light on saying catalytic converter ,excessive amount of oil getting past my pvc system it only has 129880 miles on it

I went to start my altima one day and it wouldn't start. Noticed the steering wheel was locked and it never does this. Went on youtube and saw videos about a quick fix on the electronic steering lock column. Did what the video said and the car started up. Called nissan because i found a customary replacement on this part for known defects but no full recall wa issued. My vin did not populate saying i could get mine replaced and they quoted me $1000 for replacement and labor. This default in leaves you stranded with no vehicle. Asked nissan corporate if they could make an exception for my vin and they told me no. Very displeased with this service.

On my way to work on a rainy day, i was making a turn at a intersection. I loss control of my car & hit a tree. The driver side airbag didn't deployed when my car hit a tree. I was transported to the westchester medical center trauma er. I sustained a fractured sternum & bruised ribs. *tt *js

The incident happened the week of 02/08/18 my wife noticed some light vdc slip abs lights all came on them while on highway all of the brakes locked and she could not accelerate car.

The airbag dash lite keeps on blinking after starting vehicle. Continues blinking while driving. Vehicle has 59,100 miles on it.

Diagnosed as body control module: drains battery including new installed battery; fob with new battery will not lock the vehicle and will not activate alarm system and the vehicle locator button sporadically performs; front passenger window will not operate properly (will not go down or constantly goes up and down and says in a half-up/half -down position; radio and clock loses digital display constantly when driving. Need to restart the vehicle to get the radio/clock to display. Afraid the entire electronic body module will fail at any given time effecting the safety operation of the vehicle. Date below indicating "when did this happen?" is the date it was diagnosed by mechanic.

There is a oil smell coming through the air condition vent when the car is in motion especially when you are at a stop sign and when the heat is on.The smell is strong .The only time when the smell is not coming out is when the ac/heater is off or when i have the unit on circulation and ac on at the same time.It doesn't matter how far i travel the smell is there.The volume control of the ac/heater has a delay of coming on,.I want to know why is this car doing this ,it's a 2010 it also look like it has some water damage.

After approximately 2 hours of continuous driving the vehicle refuses to accelerate. Whatever speed you are driving at the time the issue kicks in is the maximum speed the vehicle will drive. Stopping and turning off the vehicle seems to reset the process and you can drive normally for the next 15 - 30 minutes until the problem resurfaces. Looking online indicates this a common issue for nissan vehicles manufactured from 2007 - 2010. The issues seems to surface once the vehicles hit 80,000 miles. This is a safety hazard as in my case it prevented me from diving at the posted speed limit while on a major highway.

On 9/10/17 about noon while driving on the highway, the brake light on the dash board came on, pulled to the side of the road. While looking for service phone number, smelled something burning, exited the car, and almost immediately the engine compartment and then the car was engulfed in flames.

Noise coming from air conditioning system whether car in motion or still with air still cooling. Dealer had never seen where air compressor was loose and only being held by belts. Could have caused great issues in the engine compartment. Replaced air compressor at a cost of over $1200.

The dash board has been melting for over a year.

When i drive it very far, it slows down and won't go faster than about 50mph. I have to pull over and let it cool off before it will go faster.

My car airbag light on my dash board is flashing. I have contacted the dealer see if there has been a recall and they have said no. They told me to bring the car in to be evaluated. However, i was told that the air bag will not deploy if there is an accident.

When in motion driving or when stationary there is sometimes a glare on the windshield from the dashboard that is so severe that it impairs ability to see the road. This seems to have developed over time. The dashboard itself is tacky.

When the car is turned off, the steering wheel locks and the car does not turn back on. To turn the car in can take an upwards of 15 min of fighting with the wheel. We believe there is a problem with the escl.

I was driving on an open stretch of interstate when my sunroof shattered. I was not near a bridge and there was not a vehicle in front of me for some distance. The sunroof was in the closed position at the time of the event.

Key fob is inserted in slot and all lights and guages will light up, windows go up and down, doors will lock and unlock, but when brake depressed and start push button is pressed car will not start. Battery less that 6 months old (just replaced in attempt to fix problem). Brake switch just replaced in additional attempt to fix problem. Nissan dealer in st. Louis lists this as a recall for 2010 models, dealer in marion, il says it is not. Marion dealer replaced two parts [24167-zx00j harness -sub] and [25320-jn00a switch assy-stop lamp] at cost to customer of $567. For parts and labor. Car still would not start. Dealer stated that on "tsb" they "found similar concerns" and additional parts need to be installed listed in procedure," and "confirmed power is switching at bcm but not engaging starter need to replace bcm and diag further - quoted customer $569.35 to replace bcm to fix other concern" (capitalization per dealer). I declined. Car was stationary in dealer shop. I have tried to speak with corporate nissan, but have not had any satisfaction. My personal mechanic (has masters degree in auto mechanics) says it is a recall problem with recall listed on internet in march, april and may. Just filed complaint # 11000784. Found additional information on internet dated march 7, 2017 - "nissan altima and maxima steering lock problem will be fixed for free after the automaker announced a 'service campaign' for 243,000 model year 2009-2010 nissan altima, altima coupe, altima hybrid and maxima cars. Although not a recall, the service campaign will fix steering locks (ecls) that lock the steering wheel when the altima and maxima cars are parked and turned off. However, those steering locks have serious problems and can leave owners and their cars sitting in parking lots or driveways." "nissan has agreed to replace the steering lock with an electronic steering column box at no charge for parts and labor, a job that should take an authorized nissan dealer about an hour to complete." "the electronic steering column box will replace the escl assembly but will no longer lock the steering wheel when the car is parked and turned off. The automaker says the steering wheel locking function is not necessary because the altima and maxima are equipped with anti-theft immobilizers to help prevent theft." "if you have already paid for repairs to the steering column lock, nissan will reimburse what you spent as long as you can show proof of repairs. Hard to turn, make noise when turning and losing power steering fluid!!!

I have had three separate occasions where when driving the vehicle and attempting to turn into a corner the car completely shuts off and loses all power and ability to steer. The first two occasions occurred where i could simply place the car in park and restart as if nothing happened. The last occurrence 2/9/17 happened as described above was turning into an alley going less than 20mph when car just shut off. I placed the car in park and when i attempted to restart, the car turned on but when pushing the gas the car would barely accelerate. I had the car towed and the wrecker tried to drive the car onto the tow truck but was unable to get it up the bed as it didnt have any power to drive up the bed. I took it to a nissan dealership who ran diagnostics and stated that there were no codes that were identified. They stated it was running just fine, and could not reproduce the same issue. This is a huge safety hazzard as there is absolutely no notice when the car will shut off and lose power steering. This could easily be a huge accident if occurs on the freeway. I would like answers as to what is going on with the car. I have seen hundreds of other nissan owners with similar problems (all reporting that no diagnostic codes prompted during diagnosing).

After driving for extended periods in warm weather or uphill, car begins to loose power and begins to slow down on the highway. Pressing on the gas pedal does not give more power and i need to pull over and wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour for the car to reset itself.

Passenger airbag is off when passenger is clearing sitting on the seat.

The vehicle was taken to kamaaina nissan (471 kalanianaole ave, hilo, hi 96720) where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor underneath the passenger seat failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would open a case and call the contact back. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Front windows will roll down by themselves

The dash is melting and sticky, causing it to be shiny. This creates a glare on the windshield and it is difficult to see, causing a severe safety hazard.

One day on the freeway the cars rpms wad going up and down without me pressing or taking my foot off the pedal. I was driving 75 mph. That was i noticed first. The a couple days later car was shifting hard into reverse. I went and got a transmission flush. Two days later the car wouldnt move. I put my foot on the pedal and the car wont move. My slip light and check engine light are on now. Car gave me a code of po725 engine speed sensor input circuit malfunction. I have replaced it and the car still wont move.

Over the years ived had multiple problems with the branke and engine of my 2010 altima. The panel lights up but the engine does not crank. Pushing the ignition button only locks the brake.No warning signals either the car just dies on you ived paid over 700 everytime it needs repair, im very frustrated with my car and will never buy another nissan vehicle.

When driving my car on us highway 20, i was going around 45 mph. I heard a bang, the engine revved up and the car would not respond to accelerate . Was able to pull the car to the side of the road. Called for a tow. Nissan service ran a diagnostic and said a band inside of the transmission had snapped. There was no warning, and i do have my car regularly serviced at nissan. *tr

Takata recall. On november , 12 2016, i took my 2010 nissian altima into griffin nissian's dealership to have my vehicle looked at due to an airbag light coming on the day prior, while in motion. It's still on parked also. It never goes off. After taking my vehicle in a service advisor called me and stated that the problem is a sensor inside the passenger seat has gone bad and would need to be replaced. I asked was that covered under the manufacture and he advised me that he wasn't sure. He advised it would be an estimated cost of around $600.00 dollars to repair the sensor. I then research the issue about the sensor, and my research showed that several vehicles have already been recalled for the same issue. I contacted nissian manufacture. And i explain the problem my car had and they advised me that someone would view the case and contact me back. The next day someone from nissian manufacture contacted me and advised i would have to take care of the airbag issue at my own expense. I stated to them that this isn't a part that has normal wear and tear and should be backed by the manufacture and i express how that sensor not working correctly could cause my family and i harm if we were to get into a motor vehicle accident and the airbags fail to deploy. I bought my vehicle from griffen nissian on 10-15-2014, the car was used, and however i take my vehicle to griffen nissian every time its need to be service and to have routine oil changes.

I am submitting a complaint regarding the cvt- back in aug 2015 i was out of town and was traveling home and noticed while driving my vehicle all of a sudden started to decelerate. The scary part was there was an 18 wheeler behind me. No warning lights came on-i pulled over and turned off the vehicle. I was alone and scared and had 300 miles to go. What should have taken 6 hours took me 11 hours because i had stop every 30-45 minutes. I took it to a nissan dealership and they were aware of the problem. They stated nissan had to go through the steps before replacing the transmission- but at what cost- when someone dies- they installed a cvt oil cooler kit -well guess what ? 1 year and 3 months later on my first long distance trip since last year. The same exact thing occurred except i have 600 miles before i get home. I was stuck on the side of the road alone with the same issue. Thank god the truck behind me did not hit me or i injury someone else due to this issue nissan continues to ignore. I had to have my car towed to a nissan dealership in the middle of the night, could not get a rental because it was a sunday and they were closed. So now i'm in an unknown area waiting to see what nissan does this time.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front passenger side air bag sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The car does not start. Took out battery and was told it was good. Charged it up and car started. Done this many times. Took in to nissan and they kept it 3days. Could not find anything wrong and put in a new battery. Last night, had a hard time getting it started when pushing the start button. Radio though comes on.

Head on collision at approximately 45 mph, braked, direct impact about 25 mph, airbags did not engage. This is a huge safety defect. I was driving on the highway, going about 65/70 mph. I had to break, due to traffic. I pressed on the gas, it went all the way to the ground, the car didn't accelerate at all. I released the gas and pressed again...Still the same thing. This is in the middle of very fast moving traffic. I had to put my hazards on, as the car continued to slow down... Then suddenly as i was releasing my foot from the gas...It forcefully accelerated causing me to slam on the breaks, to keep me from hitting the car in from of me. I had to carefully coast my way to the right side of the road, as i was in the fast lane closest to the median. It still wouldn't completely accelerate, it kind of scooted over the side of the road. I turned the car off, waited for about 2 minutes and attempted to start the car and it would not start. After about 3 tries it started, and i could drive the car back to my house, and the car continued to replicate the same issue. I haven't driven the car since. It's sitting in my driveway. I'm afraid to drive it, and at the present moment, don't have the means to get it towed anywhere to be looked at. It's such a shame that as soon as you pay a car off, and you are no longer covered under the warranty, that you start to have major problems. I bought a nissan, because they were known for their longevity.... I will never buy nissan again. I look on the sites to see if there is a recall for this issue, and have not found one. Please someone help me. I'm a single mom, with two kids. One in high school and the other in college. I can't afford another car note.

The vehicle could not start when trying to start the engine, 'the instrument panel lights up, and 'the engine does not crank, (no crank, no start), (hybrid 'ready' will not light), and 'the ignition push button is not responsive (no action occurs when the button is pressed additional times). My 19 year old daughter was driving her car down the road when it stopped accelerating acting as if the brakes were applied. She could not get the car to go above 25 miles an hour. She was able to pull into a parking lot and wait for her dad to come and help her. When her dad got there the car was sluggish and would not accelerate because it felt like the brakes were being applied. He switched the car to manual and was able to get it home. The abs, vdc off, slip lights all came on. The next day all lights were off and the car drove normally. This happened two more times intermittently at which time we took it into our mechanic. He discovered a power brake booster needed replacing. He believed this was a safety recall as it had been a recall on the 2007, 2008 and 2009 nissan altima. Much to our dismay nissan has not issued a recall for this safety issue for the 2010 models. My mechanic told us this was definitely a safety issue that should be addressed by nissan.

Upon impact with another car (my front hitting other car's side at approximately 40 to 45 mph), both front air bags deployed and the seat belts for driver and passenger unlatched. I have numerous starting problems and the vdc,abs, and slip light come on while driving. Sometimes it can take 4 or 5 tries until the vehicle starts with the push button start. The battery,alternator and starter have been checked and found to be in good working order. This is a safety issue as the numerous lights that come on while driving present a problem especially if the abs system light comes on while driving.

Takata recal. We purchased vehicle used. Our 2nd altima. Had problems about 6 months after getting the car. It wouldn't start. Brakes wouldn't even compress. Replaced battery and worked for a few weeks. Same issue continued. Cabin lights would come on, new battery but still not starting. Had starter replaced and worked for a while again. Same issue again. Get stuck in random places. Some days it starts, others it doesn't. Calling for a jum start doesn't work either. Unreliable and unstable. Called dealership, mossy nissan. They wants over $200 just for diagnostic and then could be a number of problems. Also said break harness/switch seems to be a common problem. Vdc lights also come on at random times while driving. There seems to be a common issue with these models. Nissan should handle all repair expenses. Car was stationary at all times it wouldn't start. This week is wouldn't start 3 times. Last week it was 5 times. The whole month was 17 times out of 31 days. Please recall.

The passanger air bag light is staying on showing the passenger air bag is off. Took to nissian and they are telling me its the sensor and that the whole seat has to be replaced. Im not sure what is causing this but nissian should be responsible for this. I see they recalled 2013-2016, but i think they need to look into this year models too. Its the same issue the other people are having with the ones that are recalled. Im so frustrated. Air bags should be something that should be fixed immediatly at no cost! The cvt transmission started shifting hard a few months ago. Then about a month ago the transmission started slipping. I exited the freeway and came to a light. Turned left and was in the middle of the intersection when the car would not go. I was nervious and pushed then pumped the gas and the car would not go. Then out of the blue it took off with out my foot on the gas. I had the transmission fluid changed. Then a few weeks latter i was driving 75 (speed limit) with cruise control on then the car started loosing power, 65,60 55. I accelerated the car and it just would not go faster. I was able to stop it with the cruise at 55. With flashers on could have been killed. Started my research and found that nissan has extended the warranty by doubling it from 5 years/60,000 to 10 years/120,000 miles. My issue is my car is only 6 years old with 128,000 miles and nissan has my car in their shop and will not fix it. I believe the cvt transmission needs to be recalled before someone get killed. I have very service record since the day i bought the car with 12 miles on it. The car has been well maintained.

My dashboard has melted and it causes for the inside of the windshield to build a film. Its difficult to clean and i have to clean i at least once a day. The glare off the melted dash makes it difficult for me to see outside. I have included some pictures of the damage.

Takata inflators i was driving down the road and the air bag light came on the dash. I took it to the dealership and he said it was the passenger air bag. He said there was no recall. I just seen were newer models have recalls on them. I was wondering why my model doesn't.

Supplemental air bag sensor did not work. Had to replace the front passenger seat which contained the sensor for the airbag. Nissan has recalled 2013 altimas to correct this exact problem. Dashboard is melting from the heat and sun, has become sticky, un-cleanable and causing a terrible reflection on the windshield both day and night. Issue appears to be getting worse every week as this car sits outside 24/7 not always in the shade. I called nissan of american and they setup an appointment to have the car looked at by my local dealership/service center. The end result was a wasted day and i was told that since the car was not under warranty (80k miles and 5 years old) there is nothing they could do for me. Estimated replacement cost of $2000. A few months later my ac condenser coil was diagnosed by nissan with a leak. Nissan said it would be about $1500 to replace (and the service technician noted that due to the condition of my dashboard they could not make any guarantee to the condition of the dash after the repair and recommended dash replacement as well bring my repair total to and estimated $3500. With the ac recharged (but not fixed) i brought the car over to carmax to see what they would give me for the car. They saild although most altimas of this mileage and condition would be worth at least $6500-$7000 due to the dashboard condition (needs replacement according to their paperwork) they offered me $4500 for the car.

Melted dashboard causes terrible glare earlier this year i contacted nissan's regional office to explain that my car's dashboard has melted. The melting of the dashboard is so terrible it creates a glare when the sunlight hits it. Please see attached images. In addition, i have no idea if the melting of the dashboard is creating toxic air, which i am breathing in each time i use my car. I have been sick all year and can only attribute this to my failed dashboard. Nissan explained to me that the only remedy is to completely replace the dashboard, but they will not incur the charges because the car is no longer under warranty. Nissan quoted that the repair would be $2,381.43, but i am not able to pay this considering i am a teacher and have to tutor to make ends meet. I have done much research and seen that many costumers face the same problem i do dating back to the 2008 models. This is a problem that nissan should be made responsible for fixing. I have cleaned and taken care of my car since i bought it and don't understand why i have to pay for these changes or more importantly'put my life or other people's lives in danger because i have a hard time seeing through my windshield. The steering lock mechanism is faulty and will not let the car start. The vehicle was stationary where failure occurred. I've done research on this problem and it appears nissan extended the warranty for this part but never issued a recall so that it could be fixed. It is a safety issue that needs to be taken care of by nissan. People are being stranded because their car will not start but seems no one knows about the potential problem until they are stranded. This is an issue that nissan has admitted is a manufacturing problem. I for one will never buy a nissan again because of the poor customer service. Things break, and parts fail, but this particular issue is very very common on 2009-2011 models.

The dashboard on my 2010 altima is melting. I have found many other owners complaining of this same problem and i believe there is a class action lawsuit in process for 2008 and 2009 models but have not found anything related to the 2010 model year. Besides being unsightly and annoying as many parts of the dashboard are soft and permanently sticky it is also dangerous. They were ridiculously trying to convice me that with just aftermarket wheels my warranty will void my transmission problem. I know in the us there is currently a law that does not allow car company to void warranty unless the cause of the problem directly relate to the modification. The judge mention and stated that car company offers warranty to help product consumers and not suppose to get screw over for it. This is completely absurd of what nissan is doing. This has been a huge concern to me due to safety issue. My vehicle is currently only at 44,000 km. A few altima coupe owner has brought to my attention. O have a faulty transmission is a very serious concern during highway driving to my family and i. A altima coupe forum member recently had a faulty tranny and was involved a huge accident due to unexpected decrease in acceleration on the highway. The passenger airbag sensor has malfunction which caused the indication light flashing. The nissan dealership diagnostic the problem and the result was to replace the passenger seat. Since it was the airbag sensor malfunction, it will affect the deployment of the airbag if accident happens. This is not a wear & tear issue. It is the manufacturing problem. I am aware that later models of nissan's vehicle have been recalled for the same issue, nissan corporation refused to replace the seat at their cost since this particular model was not in their recall list.

All four of door locks failed, will not lock or unlock plus 1 window failed, will not lower.

At the dealership lot, the car was starting fine. As soon as we got home , the car would not start right away, sometimes it will take more than 30 minutes and one day my wife was stranded at a shopping center parking lot for hours before it started. Since it's been parked at home for a whole week and half, the car won't start at all, the battery is brand new and i purchased it pre-owned without waranty. After doing some research, it looks like there's issues with the intelligent key and the wheels locking control system. In order to pay for the car, i have to go to work but the car is stopping me to make it to work.

When i tried to start the cay with the push button start it would not respond. I tested the battery which is only 1 year old and is in good condition. I took it to the dealership (nissan legacy) who reported that there was an issue with the brake switch and harness which need to be replaced. The "check engine light" came on. The code associated with the issue is P0448. The problem is with the evap canister vent control valve. We are the original car owners.

On august 17, 2015 i noticed that my air bag light was flashing in my 2010 nissan altima coupe 3.5.. The next day i went to my dealership to have it looked at. They informed me that there was a "short' in the steering wheel airbag meaning that the airbag would not deploy if needed. I contacted nissan with my concern about the short being a defect with only 58,133 miles on the car. Airbags should not have "shorts" in them for deployment!!! After 2 weeks they offered to pay for 1/2 of the cost of the replacement of the airbag. This indicated to me that they realized there was a defect with the airbag. I felt that they were responsible for more that just 1/2 half of the cost. They felt different. I was left with no choice but to accept their offer or drive with a defective airbag or pay the full cost of the replacement. This was the 2nd problem i had with an airbag with the car. They covered the cost the 1st airbag. Considering the problems with airbags in nissan cars, i feel this might be another problem for nissan that they do not fully acknowledge. I am curious if there are any other nissan altima owners who have experienced the same problem with the steering wheel airbag.

Nissan is aware of the problems with the cvt transmission. Nissan extended the cvt warranty to 120,000 however failed to notify the consumer. My vehicle started whining, heating up, went into fail safe mode and without any warning lights it slowed down my vehicle to a complete stop putting my life in danger while driving in traffic around blind corners. It's a safety and serious concern due to faulty transmission. Nissan corporation admitted there is a problem by extending the warranty but refuse to recall the cvt transmission. I contacted nissan public affairs and was told it was not in their policy to notify the consumer of extended warranty. I had purchased the extended warranty to 100,000 in good faith yet nissan failed to contact me to notify me of this issue. I have documents to prove that i took my vehicle for these symptoms before the 120,000 yet nissan will not honor the proofs because they said i failed to take it to a nissan certified dealership. I was over the 100,000 miles therefore, i couldn't afford to take it the dealership. It wasn't until i started doing research i realized there were a lot of consumers dealing with the same issues i was having. There is currently a emission recall campaign for the 2010 nissian altima (csc-10043941-7009)(ntb12-040d safety recall campaign) - unfortunately it apparently doesn't include my vin # although my vehicle demonstrates the identical issues that the recall covers. Catalytic converter defective due to improperly calibrated engine control module (ecm) that may incorrectly detect engine valve closure as engine knock. The ecm will increase the fuel flow to compensate this false reading which in turns causes the catalytic converter to over heat. Catalytic converter was replace 7/14/2014 at 105000 miles - in 9/08/2015 it was replaced again 122000 miles (15000 miles) - currently having ecm reprogrammed with updated software at customer cost - this issue needs to be addressed since it's a federal law enforcement issue (automobile emissions) - this is a manufacture defect.

I have a 2010 altima that has the same safety problem as has been reported on this web site and many other automotive complaint web sites many, many times (not only for this nissan product but various nissan products of earlier years). Namely, the switch that operates the brake lights fails intermittently. When it fails the brake lights won't illuminate when the driver steps on the brake. This is a rear end collision waiting to happen! Does the nhtsa have to wait until someone is killed before requiring a manufacturer to fix a defect that both the manufacturer and nhtsa knew about for several years? To make matters worse, when the switch fails the anti-lock braking and traction control systems are disabled posing an additional safety risk. To make matter worse, when the switch fails the car won't start. Would you like to be stuck in a dark, deserted area at 2 o'clock in the morning when your car decided not to start? As i said before, the manufacturer has known about this problem for years. In response to the deluge of customer complaints, in november of 2010 nissan acknowledged the defect by issuing a tsb (ntb10-139) to fix the problem. It involves a different stop lamp switch and a new electrical harness. The cost to implement the tsb is borne by the customer. My dealer wants $579 to do this! In response to an overwhelming number of complaints about a serious safety issue it is time for the nhtsa to act before someone gets killed. Nissan should be required to implement tsb ntb10-139 in all nissan products that contain the defective brake light switch at no cost to the customer. Melted dash causing lack of visibility due to light reflects on driver. Complaint filed with nissan and denied.

On several occasions the vehicle has failed to start when the brake was depressed. At the present time the abs light, slip and vdc are now illuminated after driving the car for a few minutes. It is my understanding that this is supposed to blink if there is a problem driving in wet road conditions or it is slippery. I have read numerous complaints from other owners having the same issue with the car not starting. It takes several tries in order to get the car to turnover and start. I believe that nissan needs to investigate this issue further and issue a recall for these vehicles.

Traveling east on i-20 in arlingtjon texas our car began losing power and coasted to a stop. We were powerless to move and could not get off the freeway. We were hit from behind and as reported our car went airborne. The truck that hit us also hit another vehicle and flipped onto its top. In all 4 people went to hospital including my self and my wife. In researching the reason the car stopped, i found a number of other cases over several years of people online that lost power in this type vehicle. The problem seems to be a sensor for the crankshaft/camshaft that fails causing stalling. I contacted nissans representative(case number18593816) at 615-725-7539. Told them the car had been sealed and secured awaiting their inspection to determine the problem. They refused to inspect the vehicle saying their were no recalls on it. I feel this is a dangerous situation that could have killed us and others.

Engine oil is leaking on the ground causing possible fire and or environmental issues. I took the car to a nissan dealership and i indicated that the rear engine oil seal should not prematurely leak engine oil on the ground with a 4 year old car that has approximately 75,000 miles should not leak oil. I also indicated that nissan extended support on the leaking cvt transmission and why nissan will not cover for the leaking engine oil?

My check engine light came on and i made an appointment for monday at planet nissan. On saturday 1/24/15 the light went off, but i've heard some knocking and the steering makes a rubbing sound. So far the master cylinder had to be replaced, which i filed a complaint here, and was reimbursed, but before reimbursement they told me my vin did not match. So i find that questionable. I've put on new struts on the front and rear. Nissan said the check engine light had to do with the transmission and it was under warranty and has been repaired. Now they are telling me that the front strut mounts are cracked which is not covered. I've been on line and see that 2010 models have had this problem. They have not located the rubbing sound in the steering wheel. I've called nissan consumer department and am awaiting a reply. So far the master cylinder, struts front and back, the transmission, and now the front strut mounts. On a car with this little mileage, i don't feel secure in this car and will never own another nissan. I think they should repair the strut mounts. I've never had so many problems with a car before. I would say very poor workmanship. I was looking forward to paying the car off as i owe very little at this time and i keep my cars a long time, but feel i have a lemon and am very disappointed. Purchased used car from infiniti dealer in fort myers florida. Three days later i was unable to get a gas gauge reading and the car would not start. I waited a minute and the car started. This has happened 6 times out of the 10 days i have owned the car. My check engine light came on, so i took the car to the mechanic, they told me that i had an error P0402 catalytic converter malfunction. They told me that this is a known issue with the nissan altima and that nissan knows about it and does not care to anything about it; he told me to google it and see the number of complaints online from nissan altima owners. The dashboard is literally melting and has puddles of tacky residue. I live in florida. The vehicle was purchased in florida. The dashboard is breaking down and causing a dangerous glare on the windshield. It is a serious safety hazard for passengers, other mva's and especially pedestrians as they are almost impossible to see in daylight. The tacky substance cannot be cleaned. Anything that touches it sticks. Nissan knows about the problem. It is a defect in composite material and has not been caused by solvents or cleaners. Nissan refuses to cover dashboard replacement despite this being a known issue. The cost to replace is over $2k. Nissan has entered into a class action settlement for model years 2008 & 2009 (sanborn v. Nissan north america) but i have a 2010 and it has the same problem. 2010's should be recalled now and i shouldn't have to pursue legal action for this known and extremely dangerous defect but more importantly someone is going to get killed unless these dashboards are recalled and replaced. The problem seems to be most prevalent in florida based on what i've seen online. Please google "nissan altima melting dashboard" - it's not an uncommon complaint. I'm providing 2 pictures to demonstrate visibility when parked in the driveway as well as driving on the road. Try to locate the license plate on the truck in front of me, let alone read it. My 2010 altima had been going dead for the last 3 days. I have to get a jump a jump in the am for work and after work when i leave. I took the vehicle to an auto parts store to test the battery and was told the battery was efficient so i am puzzled as to why this has been happening. I was told it may be the alternator. Several times over the past few months and everyday for the past week, the car will not start during ignition due to the inability to depress the brake. The only way to get it to start is to repeatedly hit the brakes while pressing the start button. It never consistently works but eventually starts. I was driving down a residential road and my stability control turned off on its own and i could not turn it back on. At the time that it turned off my parking brake light came on, eventually it turned off but flashed on two more times as i was driving up hill. I have already drafted a more detailed document reflecting all the details experienced with my issue in regards to part: transmission cooler, part #21606-zx59a; nissan altima 2010. Nissan is aware of this issue. They have explained that this part is an accessory and that the car can be driven for short periods of time, then letting the car "cool down". I recently drove from upper marlboro md en route to riverview(1,000 miles), fl. When getting to richmond, va(300 miles) my rpm's jumped from 2,000 to 5,000. I began to decelerate, and the car would not go faster when the accelerator was applied. The car was taken to a nissan 4 miles away from where i broke down. The car was diagnosed by nissan. The part needed is on national back order. Customer care/nissan advises that the car is drive-able, but for not long periods of time. More importantly, this car was designed without this part. To this date, my car is at nissan in chester, va awaiting the part on a 4 week back order to be repaired. I will not jeopardize my life by driving a malfunctioning car. I have read numerous accounts of the nissan altima being unable to start when the required brake/start button is used. I am having the same problem. When the brake is applied and the start button pushed, the acc light comes on then, if pushed again, the on light comes on (over the start button). Then when pushed again, the system shuts off. By trying several times and pumping the brake, the car will eventually start. Since this has been reported numerous times, there is obviously a defect in the car's parts/system. There should be a recall to have nissan replace the faulty parts free of charge. *tr

My brake light came on and i topped it off with oil and it went home. This was on sunday. I took it in monday to have it checked and the master cylinder was leaking and i had it replaced for $612.73. I called nissan as i found there were some complaints and found a site where nissan was reimbursing customers. They checked my vin number and told me my car was not eligible. This is too new of a car with hardly any miles on it. Now they say my front struts need replacing. I never had to replace struts on my old mazda until it had very high mileage on it. Nissan has issued a warranty extension for this issue for the 2009 model but not for the 2010 and other altima models that are having the same issue. Nissan altima 2010 (~25k miles so far) would not start upon press the start button, so the car is immobilized. Walked away, came back 15 minutes, and by chance, it started. This happen several times for the past 2 months. The last try, no such luck when attempt to start the car. Check the car battery was at 45%. So i charged the battery to 100% and still no luck starting the car. Call nissanassist and recommended the car be towed to nissan authorized service center. I did and their diagnosis ($119.00) are a bad brake switch/wiring harness combo issue and cost about over $600.00. The car is now out of warranty. The local service manager said "off the record", this known defective brake switch will not allow the car to start, also it is consuming the battery electrical current and over time. This continuous bleeding of current will heat up the wire harness/connectors due to the car starting and its security features, and thus eventually draining your car battery and damaging the wire harness. That is why you will have a dead battery over time of 1-2 weeks. This is a money making proposition for nissan corporation and the local service person mentioned about a rash of bad switch occurrences last year (2013). In short, if you don't use the nissan service department for your car and spend $$$ with them, the nissanassist won't help you defray the cost for the car defective as you did not "invest" with them .So nhtsa, people won't die with this defective, but will cause many inconveniences with dead cars at various locations where drivers turn off their cars and frustrated on attempting to start their cars. This is the same problem noted on nissan blog and websites by frustrated nissan altima owners. In summary, can nhtsa investigated and force nissan to issue a recall for this recurring problem as no one die yet? Yes, no one will die from this. *tr

My wife just phoned to tell me the cvt transmission failed-again- leaving her stranded in a parking lot in a bad part of houston (sw). This has happened many times and has been taken to nissan dealer in angleton, texas for this problem. In december of 2014 they installed a transmission cooler,thinking it's an overheating problem. My wife stated shes glad it didn't happen on the freeway as it might had caused a collision with possible death,etc. Nissan has not resolved these cvt issues and you-nhtsa- have not forced them to do so either. When the cvt fails you lose power as it goes into a default mode. This happens without warning and causes loss of acceleration and ability to move out of hazardous situations. The only remedy is to park the car and wait for it to cool,thus resetting the default mode. At this point nissan has advised to bring the car in for a code scan. This is dangerous enough that i plan to take the car in with the intention of getting rid of it!!! I will trade it in for a toyota camry but unfortunately some other person will be stuck with the same dangerous cvt issues and could also be killed or injured because of this transmission failure and because you have not forced nissan to fix the problem. I have complained to you of this same issue with negative results. *tr

To whom it may concern: this particular incident date was on 8/7/14 but also reported 8/23/14 & 9/30/14 at two nissan dealerships. I was driving at 65mph for 1 hour on the highway and felt a loss of control. The steering wheel abruptly turned right, i had to attempt to keep the vehicle within the lane and slowly decelerated to a stop on the roadside without immediate braking. While braking at 15-20mph i applied the brake which jerked the entire car to the right, suspension was stiff on passenger front strut. The car had barely 70000 miles, had been up to date on services, was towed to the dealership. The service department could not duplicate the steering incident. 8/23/14 the car experienced a sudden loss of steering with a "dragging" feel and nearly hit another vehicle, car seemed to "float" and could not find a "straight" line, either it turned slightly left or sudden right. This was incredibly concerning and i felt it was no longer safe to drive. Dealership could not duplicate, told to install brake booster. 9/30/14 unable to operate the vehicle, upon start it would "knock" when put into gear, grinding noise to the passenger front side, turned the steering wheel right if coasting at 5mph. Dealer could not duplicate on a test drive but advised a new steering rack, a diagnosis to a problem that was not seen in the shop. Almost every time the car has been running for longer than an hour or at highway speed i have lost steering control. I have had my wife with me on two events, this is unacceptable and dangerous, i will be towing the car from the dealership as i feel it is unsafe to drive. The steering, "knock" from suspension and transmission are all compromised and documented. *tr

My 2010 nissan altima has had difficulty starting. All the electrical components would come on but the engine wouldn't turnover. At first i could get it to start after a few tries (i would pump the brakes, bang on the steering wheel). Then i noticed while driving the vds (traction control), abs and parking brake light would remain illuminated while driving. This meant that my vds was not functioning. It also meant my brake lights weren't functioning while i was driving. On 6 /01/2014 i tried starting my car and could not. I had it towed to my auto repair shop (maple grove auto, maple grove mn) where the technician informed me that it required a new brake light switch, harness and band hoses. He told me there was a nissan service bulletin as this was a "known issue". So much so that nissan had actually developed a more dependable brake switch. The service bulletin number is ntb10-139- which was released on november 23rd 2010. He told me to repair it was going to cost over 500.00. The faulty brake switch is a safety hazard as it causes the car to throw error codes which deactivates the traction control and abs. Why has this not been a recall? Why does it cost $500 to repair a malfunctioning component that shortly after the car was released, the manufacture acknowledged it was faulty? Why would the nhtsa wait until somebody dies in a crash caused by the vds and abs features not working before they force a recall/repair of this known issue? *tr

I was in an accident where i was hit at highway speed and my car spun out of control. The car was traveling backwards when it went off the side of the highway and into a ditch. When the rear of the car entered the ditch the impact was significant and my driver side seat back went all the way back. I feel that this is a significant defect, because the seat back and seat belt should keep the driver and passengers as still as possible. I don't believe that the seat back collapsing backwards is intended by the design. When i went to view the car and retrieve my personal belongings, i tried to bring the seat back to the upright position, but the lever was bent and was not able to be lifted in order to bring the seat back up. I took pictures of the bent lever and the position of the seat.

While at a full stop at a red light at the intersection of i-495 (exit 51 e) and rt 231 in suffolk, new york, my wife's 2010 nissan altima hybrid, while in electric hybrid mode, experienced spontaneous combustion in the engine compartment which occurred march 8, 2014 and ignited with visible sparks reported by eyewitnesses underneath the front of the vehicle prior to combustion. Again, the vehicle was at a full and complete stop at a red traffic light. On 02/25 i was t-boned by someone that ran a red light who was going approximately 30 mph and hit the front passenger side door/quarter panel and i was wondering why it is that my side curtain airbag did not deploy? From my understanding, in a collision with that kind of speed and the placement of the impact, the airbag should have deployed but it did not. While the car was being repaired, i asked the body shop to check into why it did not, and they told me that the firing pin for the airbag, was smashed to pieces. Which further tells me that something is wrong with my car to make the airbag not deploy. I am just grateful that my passenger and myself were both uninjured from the incident besides a slight case of whiplash. Everyone including the police officers that arrived on scene and the body shop were amazed that no one was injured especially since there was no airbag deployment to help protect her. *js

Most of the 2010 nissan altima cars do have a push button for the ignition to start. In order to start the car's engine, the driver would need to lightly press the brakes before pressing the button. I purchased the brand-new car back in september 2010 and i am still the only owner. In february 2014 with approximately 38,000 miles, the ignition started to stop working. After a few struggles, the ignition button would finally allow me to start the engine. Then the problem gradually got worse. I noticed that the brakes would suck in so hard that i would be unable to "press" the brakes anymore in order for the ignition button to "enable" so i can start the engine. At one point last week, the car refused to start because of the brakes and i was unable to do anything but to put the car in neutral and push the car back and forth in the middle of a mcdonald's drive-thru route in baltimore, md. My roommate had to take leave in order to come and help me out. After 2 hours of struggling, we were able to get the "brakes light" on and the ignition would finally become enabled and we were able to start the engine. We drove straight to the nissan dealership in bowie, md and told them what happened. Nissan about this and they acknowledged that this is a common problem among many drivers and that the "brake switch" is causing it. At the end, my warranty company had to pay more than $800 and i had to pay almost $300 out of my pocket just for this issue. I researched online and saw so many drivers are complaining the same thing and that nissan is refusing to issue a recall for this because they knew it is a "common problem" that they could make a profit out of the repairs charges. Many drivers had to pay approximately $1,000 just for this "common issue" and i would like to make sure that nhtsa & dot are aware of this ongoing issue. Thank you. *tr

The dashboard is melting, soft to the touch, easily damaged. First noticed when i attempted to remove the trim around the radio to replace it because the display in unreadable when it's hot. When i did so, the dashboard seemed sticky and started breaking apart while trying to pry off the trim. I purchased specific tools for removing trim without damage but the dash is still too soft and sticky. So to replace the defective radio that nissan says is not covered in the warranty i would destroy the dash causing a replacement of thousands. Also, i'm afraid that the plastic is so soft and sticky that in case of an accident, would the air bags deploy properly. *tr

As approaching a stop light, brakes were difficult to "grab" and too extra pressure. Stop was rather slow, and anti-lock brakes appeared to kick in (by rough, staccato shaking typical of them applying). Only by pressing down as hard as i could did i prevent smashing into the car ahead of me. Dry, sunny florida conditions, no sand or slipping at all, just slow, odd braking. Then the engine seemed to be revving a bit - faster idling than normal while at the stop light. We are not talking about speeding here, or sudden braking, just a normal approach to a known stop sign or light. This is a serious safety issue. This happened a couple times, then did not repeat for a couple months. Then, when it did repeat, i asked the dealer about it. Always at a stop light or stop sign, always in danger of smashing into the car ahead of me or entering too far into the intersection if i could not control the stop. They were completely puzzled, and could not duplicate it because, as i said, it is very sporadic. An ispection did not reveal anything. They laughed at me, saying it was totally impossible for the anti-lock brakes to kick in if there is no skidding. Ok, so what was it then? It sure as heck seemed like anti-lock brakes! (i come from up north and have experienced anti-lock brakes kicking in on snow covered roads...) since the initial reoccurrence, it went several months, about six, with no issues or repeats, then just the other day, it did it again twice more. I suspect it could be something to do with computer controls, rather than the brakes themselves, but i am no mechanic.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the strut insulator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v358000 (suspension). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.

We have had many problems with our cars cvt transmission since it was purchased new in 2010. The transmission, without any indication, goes into a safe mode which causes the car to loose acceleration. This has happened to us several times,usually after long trips (70 miles or more) at highway speeds. It has also happened in parking lots or just stopping to make a turn. The car has been to the nissan dealer 2-times and both times they removed oil,claiming the excess oil caused the transmission to overheat which put it into the safe mode. On dec. 31,2013 we were on a return trip of 70 miles or so when we exited the freeway. We came to a stop at a traffic signal and upon trying to accelerate,the transmission once again went in the safe mode,hindering our ability to accelerate across the intersection. We slowly drove the short distance home parking the car. In the past,we parked the car allowing it to cool so it would "reset" but this time the car remained in the safe mode the next day. We had it towed to nissan. Nissan claims they cannot duplicate the problem and our car is ready for pickup. This transmission fails without warning and upon doing so makes it accelerate very,very slowly which puts us in grave danger. I will not put my grand kids in this death trap nor does my wife want to drive it. I have seen the many,many internet complaints about this same cvt problem. If i or my wife get killed trying to cross an intersection when this failure occurs,this will be the reason why. When i pick up our car jan 6th,2014,i plan to drive it to the toyota dealer to seek a trade in on a camry. This nissan is going to get people killed. *tr

After, driving for about 2hrs, traffic came to a complete stop and was stop and go for an hour. Once traffic finally went back to normal, my car would not accelerate, the gas pedal was pressed all the way to the floor, but would not pick up speed. I got off on the nearest exit, pulled into a vacant lot to let the car cool down,5minutes later the car was back to normal. *tr

I need to drive from md to ga every couple of month. I noticed that if i drive my car continuously for a couple of hours (about 3 or 4 hours), the car won't accelerate from a stop for at least couple of seconds. I have floored the gas pedal, but the engine was like 2000 rpm. The car barely moves. It then become normal after about 3 seconds. Because of this, i was almost involved in accidents several times when i was trying to pull from a traffic light. I went to a nissan dealer to check what is the problem. But the dealer (norris nissan west near baltimore) told me they could not repeat the problem so they will not do anything. I thought this is potentially dangerous for drivers like me and the dealer's action is irresponsible and unacceptable. Now i am afraid of driving my car for relatively long trips now. *tr

With the front windshield defroster on and outside temperature near 32 degrees fahrenheit, the front windshield suddenly developed a crack on its own that subsequently increased in size to about 12 inches long. *tr

The car seems to be sending a signal to "shift" even though i am going a steady speed and there is no need to shift. This creates a "jerking" motion. I've noticed this problem occurring consistently at 60 mph but also at 65, 70, and 75 mph. Sometimes even at 45 mph. The more "warmed up" the car is, the stronger the jerking motion and the more frequently this issue occurs. *tr

A recall needs to be made for 2010 models on the altima due to melting dashes, everything gets stuck if something is placed on the dash. Please replace dashes!

The vehicle set the check engine light at a stop light. I subsequently took the vehicle into the dealer to be told that due to the engine in the hybrid vehicle starting and stopping a lot it builds up carbon in the cylinder. (a hybrid vehicle starts and stops by design when switching from electric to gas and vice versa) i just got it in under the warranty of 60,000 miles. My engine did not seize in this instance however this is clearly a design failure and not a usage failure. If the hybrid vehicle is marketed as a fuel saver and cost savings over it's useful life a $5,000 to $10,000 bill for engine repair/replacement negates all possible savings. I wonder if the design flaw creates more carbon emissions that negates the specification. *tr

When you try to start vehicle you push on brake pedal, but the pedal doesn't go down 1/16 of an inch. The brake lights wont even come on. If you push the start button it will only go to the accessory then off. When i asked service manager at nelson nissan in broken arrow, ok and i quote "he said you had to have key on before brake lights would come on"... I am like really!!! The brake lights umm no they should come on anytime you push the brake if the key is on or not. Please help us american's and other hard working tax paying people get our cars fixed.
