  • Recall 104114 [USA]: If the carrier cable is corroded due to road salt, the spare tire may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling certain model year 2004-2011 sienna vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia. The affected vehicles have a spare tire carrier assembly mounted under the vehicle whose attachment cable may corrode due to high concentrations of road salt splashing onto the spare tire carrier.
toyota sent owners in august 2014 an interim notification to advise owners of the recall and that dealers will perform an interim remedy to remove the spare tire and relocate it to the luggage compartment, free of charge. Owners are being mailed a second letter as parts become available and dealers will replace the spare tire carrier assembly with an improved one, free of charge. The remedy campaign is being performed in phases. The first phase of the recall began july 7, 2015. Owners may contact toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Note: 2004-2010 siennas subject to this recall were subject to recall campaign 10v-160 initiated in 2010. Those owners are advised that they must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign and that having the earlier recall completed did not remedy their vehicles. Additionally, model year 1998-2003 siennas were recalled as part of safety recall 10v-160. Owners of those vehicles that have not had not the remedy performed on their vehicles, should contact their toyota dealer to schedule a free repair.

  • Recall 97918 [USA]: If the shift lever is moved out of the park position without the brake applied, the transmission will either engage a drive gear or neutral, increasing the risk of a backover or roll away crash.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2004-2005 sienna vehicles manufactured january 10, 2003, through august 10, 2005; and model year 2007-2009 sienna vehicles manufactured february 20, 2007, through december 12, 2008. In the affected vehicles, due to a problem within the shift lock solenoid, there is a possibility that the shift lever could be moved out of park position without depressing the brake pedal.
toyota will mail interim notifications to owners beginning in late october 2013. When parts are available, owners will be sent a second notice and dealers will replace the shift lock solenoid, free of charge. Owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

  • Recall 74215 [USA]: The cable may break due to excessive corrosion and the spare tire may separate from the vehicle, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 1998 through 2010 sienna passenger vehicles manufactured between august 7, 1997 and january 4, 2010, currently registered in or originally sold in connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, washington district of columbia, virginia, west virginia, and wisconsin. The subject vehicles are equipped with the spare tire stowed under the vehicle. If the vehicle is operated in the cold climate regions of the united states where road salt is frequently used, water splashed backwards with high concentrations of road salt can reach the spare tire carrier and corrode the spare tire carrier assembly cable.
toyota will notify owners with an interim letter initially instructing them to bring their vehicle to authorized dealers to inspect for corrosion. A second notice will be sent when the permanent remedy is available. For more information, please see toyota's amended recall report of july 19, 2010. • Recall 2021723 [Canada]: Accessories
Issue: this recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at toyota or lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. Note: this recall only affects the following block heater/cord part numbers: C014003034 pk5a408j09 pU14000904 C014003151 pk5a408j13 pU14000905 C014000885 pk5a489j11 pU14000907 C014000888 pk5a489j22 pU14000909 C014000907 pk5a410h00 pU14000911 C014100904 pU14000900 pU14000913 C014100907 pU14000901 pU14003571 C014100911 pU14000902 pk5a408j05 pU14000903 safety risk: engine block heater wiring that overheats or melts could create the risk of a fire. • Recall 2014188 [Canada]: Structure
On certain vehicles operated where road salts are frequently used, corrosion of the spare tire carrier assembly cable may cause the separation of the spare tire stowed under the vehicle. The spare tire falling on the road surface creates a safety hazard that may result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: as an interim measure, dealers will remove the spare tire and store it in the cargo area of the vehicle. Dealers will replace the spare tire carrier assembly when parts become available. Note: this recall supersedes recall 2010-123. Vehicles that were inspected and/or repaired under the previous recall may still be at risk of spare tire separation and will require re-inspection and/or repair.

  • Recall 2013329 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, the transmission may be shifted out of park without first depressing the brake pedal. This could result in inadvertent vehicle movement, which could cause a crash resulting in injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the shift lock solenoid.

  • Recall 2010123 [Canada]: Other
On certain vehicles operated where road salts are frequently used, excessive corrosion of the spare tire carrier assembly cable may cause the separation of the spare tire stowed under the vehicle. 2008 toyota sienna. Driving down steep right turns, vsc light comes on, urgent beeping alarm and tires grip and grip vehicle brakes going 20-30+ mph on dry road. Very scary and dangerous, and has continues repeatedly over the past year on curvy right turns. Local mechanics don't know what is wrong with the vehicle. Many sienna owners have similar problems listed on carguru. Https://www.Cargurus.Com/cars/discussion-c9152_ds656326 please insist on a manufacturing recall for this vehicle. It is unsafe and could easily cause an accident. Thank you. Concerned original car owner.

The vehicle stability control will unexpectedly engage in instances where it shouldn't activate. The most common is a long, slight curve on at freeway speeds on dry pavement. The second most common scenario is accelerating to enter the freeway. When vsc engages, the vehicle will lurch to the side it was activated on and curtail any acceleration. This makes the vehicle hard to control when on a freeway curve and when attempting to accelerate to merge onto the freeway, causing unexpected motion that is a hazard to remaining on the road or causing the vehicle to be in an accident with other vehicles. There is no indication that there are malfunctions in any system that would cause this to occur. Note: mileage on the odometer is ~170,000 miles.

My vsc and slip dashboard indicators go on while i drive on dry road at speeds between 40-50 mph. The car then gives me kick back on steering and braking, almost as it losing control of my vehicle. It then goes away randomly. It is difficult to replicate the situation but it tends to occur on speeds above 35mph and on a curved road steering. This has occured while on the highway and on regular roads.

I was driving on the freeway at approximately 70mph on dry asphalt on a sunny day when the stability control warning light came on along with rapid beeping. What was the most concerning was that the breaks activated twice causing me to have a near panic attack and i didn't think i had control of the vehicle. After a few seconds, the beeping stopped and i had full control of the vehicle again. There was no apparent cause for these safety features to have been engaged and no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. This is not the only time it has happened but it was the scariest. The other times have been at slower speeds and the brakes don't always engage. I have read numerous posts online describing the same issue with other siennas and it doesn't seem like toyota wants to do anything about this extremely hazardous issue. *tr

My vehicle has 138,000 miles and when i inquired about fixing the sliding door, i was told that the recall was over in 2016; however, i know of a person that was able to have his vehicle fixed by toyota. In fact, toyota replace both the door sliding components / latches. For my vehicle i tried getting toyota to fix this last year and tried again today but toyota will not cover these repairs. I want it documented that this vin has not been fixed regarding the sliding door and should a serious safety issue arise in the future due to these doors, this will server as documentation. The issue began about 1 year ago when the driver side sliding door would not open. This year i had to take it on myself to try and fix the issue due to toyota not willing to cover the costs. The cable for the sliding door had frayed and when the door was manually opened, it would only open some but not fully. The roller latch for this door also appears to be bent and now the door is close to hitting the side panel when opened; i had to remove the cable components myself to allow the door to open. I believe the estimated repair costs for having both doors mechanisms replaced is $4,000 and i cannot afford that costs. In 2016 i do not recollect being informed by toyota regarding the sliding door issues and now my vehicle cannot be repaired for that service program has expired.

While driving on the highway on a slight curve on dry pavement the slip indicator light would come on and the alarm sound eventually causing the brakes to engage and the car to jerk on its own without warning. This happens so often that it's dangerous to drive the van with my family.

While driving on a slope, incline or decline, my traction control light ( car with squiggles behind it) comes on, a loud 'beep beep beep' sounds, and my car brakes on its own. Always happens while in motion. Highway driving. 90 percent of the time while on an incline or decline. It scares the heck out of you causing an unsafe condition. Additionally, when the brakes apply, it pulls you out of your lane. The first occurrence was 3 weeks ago. Has happened multiple times since. It doesn't seem to be intermittent anymore. You can count on it happening when your on a slope.

I attempted to put my van in park today after driving to a restaurant for lunch. The shift lever will go to any position but the dash display only responds to d or 4. When i put the lever in park and took my foot off the brake pedal, the van continued going forward. It will not go to park or even neutral. I put the car in a safe parking spot, put on the emergency brake and shut the engine off. That is where it still is. I haven't tried to restart it or drive it since.

The traction control erroneously engages under normal driving conditions, which in turn activates the abs. This causes sudden and unexpected braking. This is dangerous and could lead to loss of control of the vehicle.

While on a highway or freeway speeds of 35 to 70 mph while turning on a curve the slip indicator light comes on, causing the vehicle to slow down on a jerk motion as the brakes apply by itself. This can also happen on a sharp curve turning onto the freeway. It's very dangerous situation.

Both my power sliding doors have failed within the past week, and i cannot afford to fix them. They do not open at all because the cables are snagged, and this is a safety issue. In the event of an accident, passengers will not be able to exit the vehicle safely and quickly through the liftgate or front doors. Toyota needs to recall these vehicles and fix them and not leave safety to chance.

When we go on curvy roads, a clicking starts. It sounds as if it is coming from under the dash near the steering. Once that starts up the traction control malfunctions. The warning alarm comes on and the brakes engage on their own. It doesn't seem to matter how fast or slow we take the curve. This started about a year ago and continues to get worse. I've taken it to the mechanic but he can't replicate the problem because the road are mostly straight there and they couldn't physically see anything wrong. For what its worth, the problem happens when the roads are dry or wet. The tires are good and so is the pressure. This seems to be a common problem in this model of car and especially this particular year. For examples: https://www.Siennachat.Com/threads/traction-control-malfunctioning.44474/ *tr

The four bridgestone ecopia ep422 tires were purchased at costco in 2014. Although the tires have been aligned regularly by firestone and tire pressure checked one a month, the outer edge of the tires wore down unevenly. There are only 9,860 miles being used on these tires for 65,000 mile warranty. The unknown problems may be associated with the design of the van or the tires and need to be further examined.

The traction control, stability, and abs engage in turns (steering input) ranging from speeds of 25-55 mph. It happens on flat surfaces, inclines and declines. The turn range from sharp turns to slight turns that there is no reduction of speed to navigate the turn. When it occurs the vehicle rapidly decelerates and pulls to the right. When trying to accelerate in a turn the vehicle will not accelerate until there is no steering input. Dealers and mechanics can not determine the cause. It has been occurring daily for about 6 months. This has caused many near crashes.

When i open the lift gate from the console or key fob and the outside temperature is about 32 degrees or less the lift gate goes up then comes right back down. If i repeat the opening process several times it finally stays up. I have been hit several time by the lift gate when i thought it was open, it takes a lot of strength to stop it enough to get out of the way. What would it do to a child? This happens when the vehicle is stopped and in park or if the engine is not running at all. In my garage, parking lots, etc, wherever the vehicle is parked. This started happening about 2011 and continues getting worse each year.

NoNoN NoneNone20181225

The traction control system comes on when going into any right turn. The alarm beeps and the car automatically brakes, and the gas pedal is disabled so that you can not speed up. The braking can be so severe that it will reduce speed from 45 mph to 25 mph without notice which jerks the passengers violently.

NoNoN NoneNone20181202

While driving the vehicle at higher speeds (greater than 40 mph) around curves, the skid indicator sensor will occasionally trigger even on dry pavement where no slipping is happening. The car will automatically decelerate and brake momentarily. There is often a clicking sound in the steering column as well. The vsc warning light occasionally comes on too. Mechanics on multiple occasions have not been able to figure out what is causing the problem. However, based on research at toyota blogs, it appears that other toyota sienna drivers have experienced this same issue.

Toyota 2008 sienna le 2wd power steering rack & pinion seal failed and leaked on the passenger side at 120,000 miles. The rack boot tore and broke as a result. Repair cost is estimated at approximately $2,000. Numerous complaints are posted by other owners on the internet all pointing to the same defect. If drivers are unaware, or if the defect is not resolved, power steering could freeze and potentially cause life threatening situations. This should require a safety recall or extension of power train warranty to cover this issue. Failure has not occurred yet and will take steps to repair.

My wife and i have five lovely small children. We own a 2008 toyota sienna xle. Some years ago, the "power" aspect of the sliding doors stopped working. Since then, we have been using the van by sliding the doors open and shut manually. Recently, while my wife was driving, the passenger sliding door unexpectedly came open while the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed. This was traumatic for her and for my 5 children. Also recently, the driver side passenger door became completely non-functional. The local dealership, mark miller toyota, has been working diligently and expertly to try to repair both sliding doors. They appear to have been able to repair the passenger sliding door, at substantial expense to me. However, mark miller toyota is presently unable to repair the drivers sliding door, and the vehicle has been non-operational for weeks now.

The dashboard of my car becomes sticky and shine on the eyes during hot sunny days. I received a letter from toyota that it will be covered by warranty till 10 years but for my vehicle the warranty had expired. When i called toyota they say that is a regular wear and tear and since the warranty had expired they will not cover it. This is a manufacturing defect that causes a safely issue due to the glaring effect while driving on hot sunny days. This should be more of a recall than a regular wear and tare, i have not experienced this issue with my other car that is older than my toyota sienna.

On july 19, 2018 afternoon, my wife drove her 2008 toyota sienna home on a local street in great boston area, the passenger side mirror suddenly explored when the car was in motion. Since the windows were opened, broken glasses flew inside the car and spread. Fortunately, no body sit on the front passenger side and nobody was directly hurt by the accident, it was very dangerous since my 2-year old son sit behind his mom. I wonder if this kind accident was reported previously and what is the cause. Note, outside temperature was about 80 f on that day.

The vsc and traction control system and slip indicator warning lights come on around curves just as the front wheels grab. I have taken it to several mechanic s and toyota dealership and they said nothing shows up on the dynastic test machine. So, it seems to me that this is hazardous situation and records show i hold toyota responsible for my family's safety and well-being. We have a 2008 toyota sienna. The vehicle has 174,000 miles on it. The vsc icon comes on along with the alarm when driving on dry roads and when turning whether on flat or downhill travel with the brakes grabbing and releasing. The situation is unpredictable. Problem started at approximately 173,000. The slip indicator light started coming on intermittently while turning on highways etc. Please make this serious recall for toyota. You need to force toyota to take this seriously before someone loses a life. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6). *tr

The traction control system is often triggering while driving and turning at freeway speeds. It presents a huge risk of losing control every time. Many people with toyota sienna vans are experiencing this same issue as i've seen on various website forums. There should be a recall for this safety issue.

Both automatic side doors broke at 120,000 miles. Doors are unsafe and opened on their own while driving down the highway at 60 mph with grandson in backseat. Now that the automatic door function is broke on both doors they both won't close completely anymore and don't latch completely. They are unsafe.

When attempting to install my forward facing car seat using latch, i've not been able to locate the hook for the top tether, that should be located behind each of my 2nd row seats. Despite checking the manufacturers manual, i was merely able to locate what felt like a hook that is completely covered by fabric. Not knowing any better, i mistakenly hooked the tether strap to another hook that was located behind the seat. In completing a cpst course, i've learned that this practice could have significantly injured or killed my child if we had been involved in a wreck. My cpst instructors agreed with my suspicion that there is a defect in the construction of these seats, and that the tether bar should not be completely covered by fabric. My fear is that other families with this vehicle are putting their children at risk of injury or death because they aren't utilizing the top tether simply because they can't access the bar for it.

Bought the car brand new from toyota dealer, the second year we noticed the passenger sliding door will not open during cold days when you pull the handle from the outside. We took it in to get inspected, service manager told us everything was fine. But it still experience the same problem. This year, we noticed the front windshield started to get blurry. First we though the window was dirty, so we tried to clean it with windex many times, it still the same. So nothing we can do. Especially when we drive for a long time, we will feeling dizzy. We contacted toyota (case number 1806052799), they said there is no recall and since the car is out of warranty, they will not replace it, even though the front windshield is original. This is clearly a manufacturer defects.

My passenger side power sliding door cable snapped on it, when i went to open it months back, the cable is hanging down on it and i havent been able to use my power sliding door in months! It snapped on me when it was parked and i had a load of groceries i hit the power door button and i saw something fall from the window and it wouldnt open or shut. I actually have to have the indoor light switch off because the door when i go around corners light will come on that it isnt properly shut! Its a safety hazard that i cant afford to fix! It happened at 117,000 miles back in may 2018. I was told it was going to be $2,000! I was never notified of a extended warranty on these sliding doors! Now im just past the mileage of 120k and 9 years? I bought a toyota minivan in 2008 for safety for my family. I loved the power sliding door when i picked my kids up. This is wrong, many other people have had this same problem, and i never get a warranty slip on it, and if i wouldve known when it broke, it wouldve been covered. But now its too late?! Thats not right!! These cables have obvious defects, and should all be replaced when this happens!!!

Vvti oil line has large hole all of a sudden, caused very quick loss of all oil in car. I was in motion on the highway, and oil light came on. I was able to get the car pulled over and stopped. If i had been in a worse position, it would have caused engine seizure. There is a limited service campaign on this, my vehicle had it replaced in 2014, and it failed again because they put the same faulty part with rubber hose connector. In 2010 they actually released same engine with an all metal oil hose, but thats not what they replaced it with on the technical service campaign.

My lug nuts are swollen. This is apparently a common problem with toyota because they use a two part lug nut design. Water gets between the two parts, swells and i cannot remove my tire. The driver's seatbelt has started releasing itself during motion; this happens every time i drive. In addition, when stationary and about to drive, when i try to latch the seatbelt it has become almost impossible to get the seatbelt to latch. In addition, it is almost impossible to get out of the seatbelt when stopping driving because it is stuck in the latch. This combination of self-release, non-latching, and being stuck is a serious danger hazard and needs to be recalled by toyota. The vehicle is undriveable in this condition.

Dear madame/sir, i own a toyota sienna (2008). The driver side sliding door cable just got cut-off last week while my kid was trying to open the door and get in and the passenger side door moves very slowly. I went to the toyota dealer(s) and they said they had a fix at no cost only for vehicles which are 9 years/120,000 miles and if the customer came with a problem (not a recall) and i do not qualify as it has been 10 years (how did toyota come-up with this number?). I went online and found that many people have reported a similar issue and looks like toyota did not take care of them either. From the dealer i understand toyota was aware of the problem and did not take care of the issue or did not do enough to resolve this problem. I sincerely request you to provide necessary directions/action taken against manufacturer so that 1000s of customers like me will get their car fixed. Thank you for your valuable time *tr

When driving normally in dry conditions, the vehicle stability control engages when making slow turns at about 45 to 55 mph. It happens mostly when steering to the right but can happen when turning left. This results in dangerous driving conditions where the brakes unexpectedly engage or the car down shifts to a lower gear. It has almost caused a wreck and has placed me and others in danger. The problem began about 2 to 3 years ago and has become progressively worse. Other owners of this make and model have reported similar issues without resolution by toyota, dealers or auto repair shops. I am only able to resolve the issue by removing the fuse that controls the stability control system. See https://www.Cargurus.Com/cars/discussion-c9152_ds656326 for one example of a discussion thread. Given the pervasiveness of this problem, it is apparent that this is a systemic problem with the engineering or manufacturing of this vehicles and toyota should be held accountable for this potentially life threatening problem.

Vehicle traction control intermittently engages on drive pavement in curves and straightaways at varying speeds. Vehicle alarm beeps, vehicle brakes, and vehicle automatically steers. My 2008 toyota sienna began to create a smoke screen impairing me from having a clear visual of the road. I had to immediately pull to the side of the freeway and check if my vehicle was on fire. Once i inspected the outside and open the hood to make sure nothing was on fire i notice a puddle of oil under the vehicle an upon further look my engine motor oil cooling hose had burst, spraying the motor and everything inside with motor oil. This was the 3rd time this vehicle has done the same problem.

NoNoN NoneNone20170716

Defective oil cooling hose ruptured suddenly when parked, spilling oil in grocery store parking lot and leaving the family stranded. We had to tow car to capitol toyota in san jose. The car started leaking oil on the way to the grocery store as evidenced by a trail of oil leading up to parking lot. The car has now been at capitol toyota since 7/17 (about 4 weeks) with no eta for new improved metal replacement hose. The service department at capitol toyota admitted this is a design defect. Apparently the better replacement hose is on national back order, again with no eta, and so no line of sight on when the car will be fixed. In the mean time my wife has no car to drive, and toyota refuses to supply a loaner. I have escalated this with toyota head quarters and they also will not provide a loaner. This situation is very frustrating, as the car is at the dealer, and no timeline for when the part will come in and repair will be done. I have never experienced this sort of situation before, with the many cars i've owned in the past.

Detroit axle, in michigan, is selling defective struts, straight out of the junkyard, and rack and pinion steering and many other suspension parts, advertised as new, by just placing a coat of paint in them. They offer a warranty of one year in the products, but the consumer must pay for the removal and installation of the part. I played their game for three times and i foolishly paid 3 times for the strut installation, plus other damages the faulty struts caused me . The faulty struts caused my frame to loosen, my horizontal drive shaft to damage, and rack and pinion steering, that detroit axle sold. Well, my vehicle shakes violently at between 45-55 miles per hour, thus having to pull to the side of the road. I managed to drive to a mechanic through back roads at low speeds. The defective rack and pinion steering and the defective, sold as new parts, and advertised as new parts failed in three occasions ane damaging my other parts of the vehicle. It cost me over $3000 to replace those parts plus the money that i gave to detroit axle, with the collusion of ebay selling his products. Once the parts are received, within 60 days, he closes the feedback on his page, thus not letting the suspecting public complain against his junkyard of defective parts. Ebay protects him. I still have to replace my michelin new tires for more expense and the third pair of struts are still on the vehicle, in which i still have to replace for a third time!

Vehicle was parked and turned off parked in parking lot. Opened side door with automatic key fob and the door opened halfway then started making a weird noise. It would not close or open manually no matter what i did. I had to drive myself and 5 kids across town with the door open, car beeping because door was open. My husband finally got the door to close after i got home but there was a severed cable that now hangs under the rear window. The door will not open manually or automatically now. So i can't use the door at all. If you even try to touch or open the door then the system thinks the door is open and beeps the whole time you are driving and you can't lock the door. I'm worried it will open while driving. From research it appears to be an all too common issue with toyota vans and should be a recall or covered for the life of the vehicle in my opinion. The auto opening door was the only reason we purchased a van and not a suv.

While putting on the brakes to stop for a traffic light the engine suddenly revved up to 6000 rpm and tried to take off by itself. I pushed the gear shift into neutral and put my left foot on the brake to keep the car from moving. I kicked the accelerator pedal several times until it disengaged. This is the 4th time this has happened. There was not a floor mat involved as there was not one in the car at this time. The last time i talked to a toyota dealer about this they said this could not happen and i was wrong about what happened. The dealer did not document any of this and wanted nothing further to do with me. This is dangerous and happens with no warning when you push the brake pedal to stop for a traffic signal or to pull into a parking space. The drivers side sliding rear door will not latch closed. While driving, the door will slide open when accelerating. I called toyota about this and they said there's nothing they can do unless i pay for repairs. They have extended the factory warranty specifically for the sliding doors to 9 years/ 120k mi. My vehicle is 11 days past the 9 years but under the 120k mi. I cannot get the door to latch closed, a toyota supervisor informed me there was a recall to keep the door latched closed but my vehicle wasn't covered under that recall. This problem happened 4/12/2017 while parked at my kids soccer practice. After reading how many complaints have been filed against toyota for their sliding door problems, i'm not sure why this wouldn't be classified as a recall. Driving with a door that won't stay shut is not very safe.

I had to close it to drive home then it would not open at all after i got home, even after i disconnected the motor with the button under the dash and tried to operate manually. The door is completely non-functional now. I am concerned now since i can't move the door if it is truly latched and may come open while driving, also it is a safety issue that if the vehicle was in an accident and i couldn't open the other door for some reason that anyone in the back would not be able to get out quickly. The motor was working (i can hear it running) and i can see the snapped corroded end of the cable so i know it is definitely the cable and not the motor or the door latch. The cable is clearly rusted and shredded on the one side. I cannot tell why the cable pulled out and stopped working on the other side. As i transport 3 or more children at a time, it is a huge safety issue that the only way out of the car in case of emergency is through one of the front doors or the back trunk hatch. My toyota seinna 2008 , has been locking and unlocking while driving....For the past few months in 2016 my sliding doors and front passenger door lock up and will not unlock with my remote or any other way...I can unlock the front passenger door with a key,but there is no way to unlock the sliding doors...Recently i had two friends riding with me...We got to our destination and i got out tried to unlock sliding doors with my remote, they did not unlock...My friend sitting in the second row seating could not get out .She is handicapped....I had to crawl through the rear door and help her up out of her seat and then carefully crawl on the floor of the van to the rear door and climb out. This is truly a safety hazard and cannot be dismissed....Sometimes the doors will unlock and sometimes they won't .....So when i take it to the toyota dealer it always seems to work for them......My van runs well and i have no other problems with it.I feel if the toyota manufacturer can design computerized doors then they have to have a way to find and fix the problem. My first thought is,why did they not design key access to these sliding doors ? The sienna was in park, the key was out of the ignition and the brake pedal was not touched. My concern is that fix provided for the recall did not actually correct problem completely. If you have a sienna for the effected years and have had the above recall work completed your vehicle may still roll away. To test park on a flat surface apply emergency brake grasp gear shift apply pressure to move it toward reverse while jiggling the gear shift up and down - do not put your foot on the brake while doing this. If gear shift stays in park you are good. If it falls into reverse your car is now in neutral and can roll away put foot on brake and put the car in park.

October 2016 this problem of my 2008 toyota sienna started- on slight curves doing 30-40mph i would hear a clicking noise coming somewhere underneath the front right end almost as if under the dash, the vsc light would flash. I took to a toyota dealership, had a mechanic test drive with me they said the problem was that my tires werent aligned with my last tire change(which was done at their toyota dealership) toyota told me i needed to replace all the tires and have the wheels aligned. Decided to get a 2nd opinion from 2 other auto shops and found out toyota lied about the brakes, they were fine and they both were unable to find out my problem. I found this out going to 2 other auto shops asking for them to look into the original problem. Now today may 2019 this problem still exists, but has gotten worse. Now-the vsc light comes on, it still clicks, the abs light and warning sound goes off, feels as if abs engages, as it jerks and im unable to accelerate during this time until im on a straight away. Very scary when it happens the van starts jerking and unable to acelerate, not safe to take my family in. Never buy another toyota again...

The passenger sliding door's pulley cable snapped while performing a routing automated door opening operation. There where some grinding noises while the door attempted to open. The vehicle was parked on a level surface. Upon inspection of finding out what happened, the braided cable appeared faulty and was corroded. Meanwhile the loss in tension resulted in loose cable preventing the door from opening and closing properly. The cable was then cut but the excess cable is hanging out of the vehicle. The door is now opened manually but it is having difficulty holding itself when opened. I do have three young children under the age of 7 who frequently use these doors. My concern is that the door opening is not was i purchased/expect and second the cost of repair is very high ($1200-$2500) when hearing this issue has become more frequent in the last two years as these vehicles are surpassing their warranty expectancy. I do not have any photos but still have the faulty cable if pictures are requested at a later time.

The sliding door cables have broken just like in the 2007 models that a recall has already been done. Toyota has refused to fix this on my 2008 model because the nhtsa has not requested it and because they supposedly have not had enough reports of failures. Now our door does not completely seal shut and going done the road, the door alarm goes off indicating a door is open that has nearly caused my wife to jump out of her skin thinking that our autistic son is opening the door while she is driving down the road. It doesn't make sense that this defect has been recalled in 2007 but not in the 2008 which is the same problem. Cables are dangling out the side of the van whipping in the wind.

Passenger rear power sliding door. Cable broke. Known problem. Not safe and not convenient. $1300 just for part and $2000 repair. Probably driver side will be next. 76000 miles and garage kept. Our left rear sliding door won't function or open any more. The cable broke. Then 2 days later the right rear sliding door won't function or open anymore. Same problem. Cable was severed or snapped. Looks like it was rusted on both cables, both sides, and severed in the same position or length. So, both rear sliding doors do not function. They only open to about 1 foot, and no further. Extremely difficult to close or open doors at all. The minivan was stationary both times while opening doors for my kids to get in. I was parked on a street. The left side broke on july 1, 2016, and the right side broke 2 days later on july 3, 2016.

Toyota cable frayed on automatic sliding door (it was fine one open then had a terrible sound the next and we could visually see the frayed cable from the outside), however the 2008 is not in the designated years (2004-2007) to have it fixed under extended warranty. Originally 3 calls to toyota customer service provided me that it was covered but i had to speak to a supervisor after reading the paperwork online to explain that although i was part of the extended warranty for cable and latch mechanisms, that the latch mechanism is the only part that applies to the 2008. It's so confusing, the customer service agents can't figure it out. Taking it to the dealership to have them tell the 2008 cable isn't covered would have cost me $110. The repair is $1500-2000 on a car only work 8k or so. Being that this has been an issue in the past is upsetting. And the fact that the warranty enhancement bulletin is so confusing their own employees don't understand it is also ridiculous. From reading online it seems others are still having this issue.

Whey haven't the government force toyota to recall this vehicles? I have changed struts, shocks, the tires are new and it is aligned. Toyota is risking the lives of its clients and no one can do anything about it, due to the apathy and human disregard of lives.!

Power sliding doors have a common problem of the cable breaking and the power sliding feature stops working. The door can still be used in manual operation, which is just an inconvenience. The power rear latch is a safety issue as the door can suddenly open while driving, or other times remain locked so as the door cannot be opened. This problem is compounded when both doors are affected, and i have had multiple repairs done to both doors to a point where i cannot keep up with the frequency of how often the doors fail. To summarize, power sliding function granted is a luxury though an expensive one when toyota does not warrantee the repair. The latching problem is most certainly a safey issue as the doors either do not stay closed, or are stuck shut forcing the rear passengers to climb over the front seat to exit the vehicle. Imagine what would happen in an emergency.

I took into dealer and showed them broken piece and found that right rear coil was also broken but still intact. I had to replace both coils at considerable expense. In very cold weather (approximately 20 degrees or colder), the automatic tailgate on the back of the minivan malfunctions while parked. It will go up but as soon as it gets to the full open position, it comes back down and will not stop, even if you have your hand or body in the path of the tailgate door. This has happened to me numerous times over the last seven years (the last time being on the evening of 2/12/16 in bloomington il) and the first time i barely was able to pull back before the tailgate would have crushed me. In summary, the tailgate door malfunctions in very cold weather (as it won't stay open) and it appears the sensor that detects something in the path of the tailgate door also is malfunctioning since it will not stop if something is in its path. I have submitted this to toyota via occasional user panel email surveys they send, but i don't know if they are looking into it. This needs to be investigated before someone gets crushed, injured, or killed.

Our toyota sienna has 2 seat belts that will no longer function properly. We contacted toyota (case# 1609160545) toyota refuses to stand behind this safety related failure. This is our families main transportation and we keep it maintained. However, this is not a maintenance issue. A vehicle manufacturer has an incumbent duty to deliver a product that is safe for consumer use. I find it very concerning toyota feels it is not necessary to offer seat belts that will operate properly for the life of their customers vehicle. We have seats we can't put our children in due to the fact, there is no restraints to keep them safe. It's unconscionable.

This usually happens between 30-40 mph on back roads, only on curves. However, the vehicle is going an appropriate speed for the corner, and there is no reason for this system to engage. The passenger side of the powered sliding door stuck open during a cold winter night and we were lucky we were at the parking lot not on highway for an emergency stop (which is possible with two little ones on board sometimes). We did a little research and found out that this is due to an known faulty sliding cable assembly and toyota already had a a customer support program which extends the warranty of the cable assembly for model years of 2004 to 2007. Unfortunately, our car is 2008 and the local dealer asked for $2000 to change the cable assembly. Since this issue is the same as the previous model years for the second generation sienna, this should have been covered by the same program. Due to the potential risk of door stuck open on highway during emergency stop, toyota should have included this as a recall campaign.

The door latch assembly is a defected part admitted by toyota. This defected part caused the sliding door cable to break. Toyota has sent out an extended warrenty to fix the door latch but not the sliding door cable. I can now open up the door but without the cable the door will not stay open if on a grade. This is a major saferty hazard as the door could shut on a person including my four children. I have contacted toyota about the issue and it is noted. I feel that if they have admitted to a defective part and that part caused another issue, it should be replaced.

Rubber on rear hatch handle has become soft and pliable. This started in 2013 and while being an inconvenience because the rubber blackened your fingers caused no danger. Yesterday morning it was 31 degrees in atlanta and when i tried to open the rear hatch the rubber was hard and would not open the hatch. This could be a serious problem if in cold weather the vehicle was in an accident and the only access to the passenger compartment was through the rear hatch. Toyota should recall or at their expense repair the vehicles with defective handles.

Purchased 2008 toyota sienna new in august 2008. In november 2015 (90,000 miles) with vehicle parked, when opening the passenger side power sliding door, the cable snapped, binding the powered door's electric motor, and causing the door to be "locked in place" about 6 inches open. Went to driver side power sliding door, opened, children entered passenger compartment, and upon closing door this cable snapped, but didn't bind electric motor until the door had fully closed, causing the door to be "locked in place" in the closed position. Traveled home and children exited vehicle through front driver and passenger doors. The cables were cut between the electric door motor and the "c post" to get the doors "unlocked" and allow for manual operation. Examination of snapped cables revealed removal of cable insulation (likely due to friction/abrasion), which exposed the stranded metal cable to the environment, causing severe corrosion and eventual failure of the metal cable. Online research revealed many other 2008 and newer toyota sienna owners have had similar problems, to the point where a facebook page has been created regarding the issue https://www.Facebook.Com/toyota-sienna-faulty-power-sliding-doors-233250320033754/. Further research revealed that toyota has a warranty enhancement for this problem (no: pol12-02), but it only applies to 2004-2007 model years. Whatever corrective action was taken by toyota beginning in 2008 obviously has not remedied the problem. The power sliding door assembly required to repair these doors costs $500 per door (part numbers 69631-08030 and 69641-08030). To have a dealer make this repair costs $1,000 per door ($500 for the part and $500 for labor).

Received safety recall #a9e a couple yr.S ago and had the recommended repair done on the spare tire carrier cable. Then received another notification in 10/15 that "the original remedy procedure may not have been adequate." informed that the new safety recall #e0s now supersedes a9e. Took van to dealer for this repair on 10/19/15. After mechanic began work he came to writer and asked where the spare tire was. Much to my surprise there was no longer a spare tire under the van-we have never had a need to use the spare and have no idea when it fell off. I was told that the cable was broken and that a new wheel and tire would have to be ordered and that i would have to pay for this. Contact was made with the toyota customer center and after many phone calls and failure of their representatives to return calls we were told that they understood that the loss of the tire was due to the faulty spare tire carrier cable but that they are only responsible for replacing the cable. It seems absurd that our safety and the safety of others was compromised by the spare tire falling off and all the company assumes responsibility for is the carrier cable. We have now ordered a new wheel and tire costing $300 to $400 and hope that the most recent "fix" works.

The tailgate strut failed to hold up the liftgate and struck me in the head. Please see below for other toyota siennas; toyota siennas recalled to fix power liftgate liftgate may fall on users toyota is recalling 196,222 sienna vans from the 2004 through 2006 model years to repair the struts which hold up the power-assisted liftgate. Those struts can fail, causing the gate to power its way shut, injuring anyone hit by the closing door. Image conscious toyota, with the approval of the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa), is describing the recall as a "safety improvement campaign" in a public relations effort by the japanese automaker not to further sully a deteriorating reputation for quality control. The gas struts used to lift and support the the rear power liftgate "could wear out sooner than expected," according to the "safety improvement campaign" notice published by nhtsa. "as the gas struts deteriorate, the performance of the liftgate will begin to degrade and the power rear liftgate will operate more slowly than when the gas struts were new," according to nhtsa. The safety agency warns that worn struts may not be able to support the weight of the liftgate when it is open and the door could fall "about 10 inches after it reaches the fully opened position at which point the power motor will engage and power the liftgate to the fully closed position," perhaps injuring anyone struck by the closing door. Toyota dealers will replace the gas struts during the "safety improvement campaign" with struts the automaker said will have a longer service life

My wife was driving the minivan with both kids in the car after grocery shopping and picking them up from the preschool. While she was driving into the garage she smelled and saw oil fume coming out of the hood. She thought the car was going to catch fire and grabbed the kids and got out of the van as quickly as she can. I got her call and rushed home from work. It turned out there was a sudden failure of a oil cooling pipe on the engine. All of the engine oil had almost leaked out (there was maybe about quarter of inch showing on the dip stick). After we towed the car to the dealer, we found out the oil had leaked from an engine cooler pipe which was poorly designed and over time it could develop a slow seep leak or in our case failed in a sudden burst and caused the oil to leak out like a running faucet. We were extremely fortunate because it occurred just while she was driving the van in our subdivision. Toyota had an extended warranty for this issue last summer but didn't have a recall for this. If it happened while we were driving on highway and we didn't pay attention to the engine light, the engine may burn or worse it could seize and cause accident. After a little research on the web, i found out there are a lot of people had this same issue. Toyota actually had a recall other models of cars for the same issue several years ago. I wonder why they didn't recall the 2008 sienna and they should have. I want to report this and hopefully force toyota to start recall on this issue for all impacted models so others won't have to experience this and avoid potential accidents. Thanks. *tr

I was getting things out of back with power lift gate up. While leaning in vehicle the power lift gate came down without warning and caught me. It did not continue to crush me but it did not reverse so i had to use a pretty good force to push it up (my wife probably would not have been able to do it). It did it a second time a week or so later. When i took it to toyota they said the struts were bad and replaced them. When i asked why there was no warning they just shrugged their shoulders and said do not know and insinuated they would not know what to do so it would not happen again without warning. How was i to know the struts were bad since it is a power lift gate had been working just fine? It seems to me if this is not something toyota can fix so it cannot come down without warning they at least need to install warning labels in an obvious place that the lift gate can close without warning. I really think my wife would not been able to push it up as i did. She would have needed assistance. *tr

This is regards to my 2008 toyota sienna le fwd 8 passenger minivan. On 12/21/2014 my van dropped dead in the middle of busy gunbarrell rd in chattanooga tn. Following up with the diagonostics on the vehicle it was detected that the fuel pump had failed. Since i bought this vehicle as certified used from toyota in 03/2010 i was confident that this part is covered but to my frustration - toyota said the fuel pump is classified as an electrical system and unfortunately other than their hybrid models it is not covered by any type warranty. Upon researching multiple websites, chat forums, and among registered toyota owners it came to my understanding/conclusion that the toyota sienna models from 2007 to 2010 had numerous fuel pump, pulleys, and brake drum issues. The vehicles affected had total miles ranging from 20k to 130k. New vehicles with failing fuel pumps and not covered under warranty - shocking. It is my understanding that without a fuel pump no vehicles can run and it is very unfortunate to see that automakers classify it as an electrical item and the nhtsa sadle agrees with it. This repair costed me over $600 for parts and labor. If i were to use the toyota dealership for parts and service it would have costed me over $900 ( via 3 estimates from dealerships) through this letter i am kindly requesting an investigation to the fuel pump issues for toyota sienna from model year 2007 onwards so a proper warranty coverage, warnings can be provided to registered owners. *tr

I pressed the button to open the automatic rear passenger sliding door to put in a shopping bag after leaving a store. The door open, then when i pressed to close the door, it started to close bumped and clanked and reopened and would not close. I had to drive the 16 miles home with the door open. I took it to chatham parkway toyota in savannah, ga who inspected it and had me retrieve it to take to a collision center for repair. They wouldn't touch it and told me to take it back to the dealer. I took it to savannah toyota who repaired it at a cost of over $1400 to replace the rear slider assembly and cable assembly. They also advised me that the rear main seal and sub oil pan gasket needed to be replaced, i checked online to see if this was a recall for any reason after hearing of that other's had experienced this problem. This is a documented problem with toyota with a warranty or recall for model years up to 2007. I called toyota on october 17th to ask about a reimbursement since the problem is still an existing one with my 2008. Obviously the problem has not been corrected or my van was built using prior years parts. They told me my van was not part of the warranty even though it is the exact same problem as previous years. They offered me $1000 that can be used on another repair which i will need to pay out of pocket then ask for reimbursement. I do need that to help pay the $2400 repair for the real main seal repair. The malfunctioning rear sliding door is a safety concern especially if there are children in the rear seats. Toyota needs to extend this warranty because they have not fixed this problem. I have grandchildren, and a child could unhook their seat belt with the door open and fall out in traffic. I was also exposed to a possible carjacking with no protection. While parked in my driveway and seated in the drivers' seat, i activated the rear lift-gate via the center roof console button. I exited the drivers' side door and proceeded toward the rear of the vehicle. At this time the lift-gate was still rising, and to all observance, acting normally. As i got to the rear of the vehicle the door was almost at its apex. While standing outside the vehicle, i bent down to get something out of the rear cargo area. I have done this hundreds of times with no concern because the lift-gate is designed to stay open once it reaches the top of its opening cycle. As i stood up to leave the area of the vehicle, the lift-gate came down without warning or activation on my part and hit me on my head and shoulder. I had not pulled down on the manually retraction handle on the inside of the lift-gate and no one had activated the button inside the vehicle at the console. After tending to my bleeding head and sore shoulder, i returned to the vehicle to try and duplicate the event. I am able to duplicate the event each time the lift-gate is activated. It does not matter whether the lift-gate is activated by the remote control fob, the console, or the manual lever on the door. Any time the door is opened, it reaches its apex and automatically and immediately retracts down to the closed position. I contacted the dealership where i purchased the vehicle and they told me that since my warranty has ended, i would need to pay a "diagnostic fee" of $118/hour. I thought this was unfair so i contacted the manufacturer's customer relations department. I was also told that since there were not recalls on this part of this vehicle, they "could not help with the repairs." after encountering my second dead-end for assistance, i did a simple google search to see if anyone else has had this problem. Upon exiting freeway in butte, mt, and slowing done for red light at bottom of ramp, heard tapping noise coming from engine. Drove one block to gas station, and while pumping gas, noticed large quantity of engine oil puddling under the engine. Had vehicle towed to toyota dealer, who determined that oil cooler hose had ruptured. Fortunately, no apparent engine damage. After some research on sienna owners' forum, learned that this was a recurring problem on certain toyota models in certain years, including the 2008 sienna with tow package like ours, and that toyota had put out a tsb on this, but apparently had never informed owners. It took 4 days for the replacement hose to arrive, and the repair cost $520. This incident occurred while my family was far from home (silver spring, md) on a cross-country trip and thus forced them to cancel part of vacation and spend extra $$ on hotels and a rental car. But it could have been much worse - the oil could have drained while at speed on the highway, ruining the engine, stranding my family in an isolated area or causing an accident or engine fire and possible injuries. Given that toyota was aware of the problem, it could have informed us so we could have had the hose replaced before it failed. *tr

Once we opened the hood, we were hit with a plume of smoke, and realized there was a pool of oil under the van. We began to look on the internet for causes, where we came across several instances of the oil hose blowing and the vehicle catching fire. We called the dealership the next day to see if there was a recall. They didn't know of one, but stated that they'd fixed several vehicles for the same issue. This is very alarming since the check engine light, oil light, etc didn't even turn on. Had we driven another mile, would the van have caught fire? My wife was parking our 2008 toyota sienna with our 3 young boys in the automobile. She slowly brought the vehicle to a complete stop; never using gas, just covering and tapping lightly on the brake. Once the automobile came to a stop my wife pressed the brake a little more in order to put the vehicle in park. At that moment the vehicle accelerated incredible fast, jumped over an 8 inch concrete parking lot divider and crashed into a tree about 10 - 15 feet from the concrete divider. We are certain that this was a "sudden unintended acceleration" incident caused by some mechanical, electrical, programming or other defect in the '08 sienna. This was not "driver error"! My wife did not confuse the gas pedal and the brake. This was not caused by a floor mat obstructing the gas pedal. This was caused by some type of a design or component defect. How can w be so certain? My wife and i have parked in this parking spot (located in our apartment complex) hundreds of times. To park in this parking spot you first have to make a left hand turn at a stop sign. This stop sign is about 30 - 40 feet from the parking spot, which requires that you make a sharp right turn. Once you press the accelerator slightly to make the left at the stop sign, you do not use the gas again. You simply tap and cover your brake until you make the right into the parking spot. Our vehicle came to a stop. In fact, upon "stopping" one of our 3 boys removed his seat belt immediately before the vehicle accelerated out of control. I'm asking for assistance from someone within toyota or the nhtsa with knowledge of this flaw. My wife and kids were "fortunate". But this is a "fatal flaw" and something must be done. *tr

Note: i have two cars, two recalls and the same problem with the dealership. This complaint is in regards to fred anderson toyota raleigh's service department. I have bought 4 cars with this dealership, three of them have had manufactures defects. Every time i call, including this last time for my recall they tell me that not only do they not have the parts available to fix the recall, it will take them "at least" 30 days to get the parts available for the recall. The service department is horribly run and the fact that they don't have remedies for serious safety recalls readily available or at least on quick delivery is unacceptable. Also, they told me that it would take at least hours to fix the part when it finally comes in but only offer a rental car if the fix is more than $400, which of course, since this is free of charge the consumer has to figure out transportation to make up for the fact that they don't know how to make safe cars. It is my opinion that fred anderson toyota raleigh's service department would rather put its customers at risk than fix their recall so they make it as hard as possible to get the fix taken care of. I have tried to contact manager and owner of the dealership and they both ignore my calls. My 2008 toyota sienna has power rear sliding doors. While the driver side rear door was opening, the cable for the door mechanism snapped and would not close completely. After investigating the situation, the broken cable was jammed in the door mechanism, preventing the door from closing. As a result, the door now does not fully open, and will not hold in the open position. If parked on a hill, the door will close if not held open. Looking at the cable, the plastic sheathing around the cable had many cracks causing the cable itself to rust and fail. The passenger side door cable has similar cracks but has not failed yet. I brought the vehicle to our local toyota dealer. They mentioned this cable failure was a known problem and previous model years were covered under an extended warranty program. However, the 2008 model year was not covered. *tr

T-sb-0047-10 from safercar.Gov "some vehicles equipped with 2gr-fe/fxe engine. The rubber portion of the oil supply hose for vvt-i actuator may degrade over time. This condition may cause oil to leak from the vvt-i oil hose producing abnormal engine noise and the oil pressure light to illuminate " this tsb affects toyota vehicles going back to at least 2008-present. This is a major issue, and i feel this should be handled as a recall instead of a tsb due to the severity of the issue if/when the pipe breaks. I recently elected to have my vehicle repaired on my own just so i wouldn't have to worry about this issue happening to me or my wife, and thus blowing up my sienna's engine causing thousands of dollars in damages. Seems pretty bad that a recall can be issued for floor mats and accelerator issues, but no recall is issued for this issue which can drain the oil from your engine in a minute, blow up your engine, and then possibly wreck your vehicle. Consumer's engines are now being destroyed, and this is showing up in different online forums. I feel that the nhtsa needs to force toyota to replace all of the defective engine oil cooler pipes with the newer metal ones that the tsb addresses. They should also be forced to reimburse all costs to those individuals that either needed to have the repair done, or decided to preventatively have the repair done on their own before those pipes burst on their own. Toyota has told me that my vehicle was not affected by their limited service campaign csc-10033553-6074 but my car has seepage from the rubber portion of the hose that was diagnosed by grapevine toyota dealership yesterday. Very sad situation that such a dangerous condition exists in so many toyota vehicles with the v-6 (2gr-fe) engine. Please help!!! *tr

My toyota 2008 sienna le passenger automatic sliding door won't closed and opened completely. I've experienced an intermittent jammed with this door for the past 3 days. As a temporary fix, i need to get out from the car to help the door in closing and opening it because the button inside the car and even the remote(has new battery installed) won't do the work . One day, when driving my kids to school. As i made a left turn, i heard an audible noise/alarm and we were surprised and tried to figure out where the sound came from until my kids told me that the door is partially open while driving. I pulled over and temporary close the door. I managed to go back home and still with the alarm on and then re-pushed harder to make the door completely closed. That was scary because my kids were sitting in 2nd row. To address this problem. On same day, i rushed my car to toyota dealership and the representative told me that cable assembly is broken and need to replace all parts but must pay $1700 + tax because the issue was the power sliding door cable assembly although my car has very low mileage 30, 312 miles (sitting most of the time inside the garage) and still not covered by toyota warranty enhance program for rear sliding door cable. This is very frustrating and adding insult to injury, i was told that i'm not the only one had this problem. *tr

In january 2014 i experienced a problem with one of the sliding doors. My local dealership said the center hinge was bad and was not covered under my warranty.I insisted that hoselton pay for the repair, they reluctantly did so.I have since had both siding doors repaired multiple times due to the lock assembly not working. The lock assembly is covered under a new special condition warranty because toyota has received so many complaints. Now the other doors center hinge is bad.I was told if i don't replace the hinge that the lock assembly will keep going bad.So these are obviously related issues. This combined issue causes my doors to either be stuck open, be stuck closed, or to open while i am driving. All safety issues as i have children in the back seat.I have contacted toyota and the warranty people and neither want to assist.I want the hinge replaced at toyotas cost. This is dangerous and it is a known issue by them. They need to resolve this asap.My vehicle is unsafe to drive. While driving my vehicle it began to make a strange knocking sound as i accelerated. I had been driving around town for several hours that morning. I pulled over to inspect the engine, and saw some type of fluid on the left side of the engine and wall. I pulled the oil dipstick out and there was no oil on it at all. Completely dry! I had someone bring me some oil and i drove my car up to the repair shop just a short distance away. They discovered that the oil pressure line -valve cover variable timing-on top of motor to right on passenger side had burst. Part of the line is rubber and that part had ruptured and all the oil had blown out of the engine. My oil light did not come on at any time nor did my check engine light. I recently purchased a 2008 toyota sienna that i believe has a safety issue, particularly in cold weather. The exterior switch that allows the rear hatch to open is not functional in cold weather due to a material malfunction. I noticed that during warmer weather, the rubber seal over this exterior switch had become soft and gummy. Over time, the rubber seeped between the switch housing and the switch button. As the weather became cold, the rubber has hardened around the switch button and the exterior switch is no longer functional. The only way i can open the rear hatch in cold weather is to open a front door and use the interior switch to open the rear hatch. My concern is if we were to get into an accident during the cold months and the only way someone could get access to the interior of the vehicle is through the rear hatch, it could not be done because the exterior switch on the rear hatch would be seized preventing access. It is very alarming when i think of my entire family, especially my 15 yo, my 3 yr, and my 6 mo, being inside of this van and people not gaining access to the inside to help them due to injuries, fire, water hazards, etc... I own a 2005 toyota 4runner and it appears to have the same switch. However, the rubber on the switch is perfectly fine and functions normally. There appears to have been a material change allowing the rubber to soften resulting in a potential safety hazard during the cold months. I spoke to our local toyota dealership and they are fully aware of this issue and said that toyota does not consider this to be a safety issue. Initially i thought the previous owner applied a solvent or something to soften the rubber. As i researched more on the internet, this issue applies to many toyota vehicles, with models including the sienna and the 4runner. The earliest model year that i can find for either model is 2007. *tr

When operating the rear lift gate (trunk) on this 2008 toyota sienna minivan, we have noticed the lift gate does not open all the way up, causing an average height adults to bump their heads on the lift gate. But worse, this happens on several occasions, the lift gate comes falling down, hitting an adult on the head, causing a head injury. Worse yet, if a child happens to be standing under the lift gate, the heavy trunk can cause a major injury or death! This is happening on a number of occasions, and should be covered by toyota as this is not acceptable for a family minivan with less than 5 years old. I would like to see a safety recall issued on this type of malfunction and have this repaired or replaced free of charge by toyota dealers. *tr

I was dropping my kids of to school in the morning. I stop by at my friend's apt to pick her up with her baby. This is my daily routine. So on the day of the incident, i did the same thing, parked my van, got out, and went to the apartment' s exit door from where my friend was coming. My children were seated in the car and i was picking up the baby from my friend when both of us heard my eldest son aged 10, screaming that "the car is moving mama", and in panic he opened his door and tried to get off his seat belt and was trying to jump. I saw the van rolling back , i put the baby on the grass and rushed to help my kids in the moving van that was rolling backwards downhill. First i pushed my son in as his leg was caught in the seat belt and he couldn't jump forwards and then i moved around the back of the van, hit my knee on the bumper and my friend came from the front , she opened the door and i was able to put the handbrakes on. But in doing so after bumping hard on my right knee from the moving car, and when i applied the brakes, i sat on the ground and hit my knee again. The car stopped and i tried to calm myself because there were 4 kids inside when the van was rolling away and 3 of them were small, so they were crying. My friend calmed me and we set off. My knee was heavily bruised and aching. I came home and took painkillers and couldn't get any xrays done because i didn't have any medical insurance. To this day once or twice a week, i use painkillers for my knee which was perfect before. My kids were safe and nothing major happened which could have, but we all went through a very panicky and terrible experience which i hope never happens again. If the van wouldn't have stopped in time, my children could have been badly injured. *tr

The vehicle has developed a cracked (pieces broken off) dashboard. It gets very hot and feels like it is melting. Toyota recognized the problem almost two years ago when they started sending recall notices but to date they haven't come up with a solution to fix it. I have already received about five recall notices but each time the dealer tells me they will have a fix in the winter or fall etc.. Just concerned that it is taking almost two years and toyota keep sending the notices. I also have a 2009 camry and the dashboard is very sticky too (not breaking yet). Not sure what there strategy is but they need to handle the liability if they want to keep repeat customers and avoid bigger issues with vehicle safety.

The rubber portion of the oil supply hose for the wt-1 actuator failed resulting in a sudden loss of several quarts of oil. This oil was carried along the undercarriage and sprayed a fine mist of oil on the windshields of the cars behind the van. Luckily this occurred close to home at a low speed. If this was on the highway it could have caused sudden reduced visibility for the drivers behind the vehicle and could have led to an accident. I am sorry but using a rubber hose on an oil line is one of the dumbest things i have heard of. Fortunately for us, no one was hurt and no damage was done to the vehicle. I don't understand how this has not turned into a recall. This was a big mistake on toyota's part. *tr

My sister and i had just returned home from the store and i pressed the button to lift the back door to get our things out. We were in the middle of getting our things out when the door started closing on us. I got out and my sister got caught and it came down on her back and scratched her up pretty good. Ever since then just out of the blue it will not stay up and it will close down on you. I think this is a major safety issue especially since i have two little children. It could really do some harm to them. The sliding doors stop closing if someone is in the way and it should be the same for the back door. I bought this vehicle because it is supposed to be one of the top of the line fans for safety. So far i am not impressed. Someone needs to resolve this issue! I am scared to even open up that back door because of this.....And that is not good. *tr

Van spontaneously began leaking oil. I brought it into the dealer and was told that it was the vvt1 actuator hose. Apparently this was part of a voluntary recall that toyota started in 2010 and i was never notified! I called toyota motor corporation and was told that this was in fact a defective hose but because it was not repaired prior to the 3/31/13 deadline that toyota would not pay for this defective hose to be replaced. I am certain that i was never notified of this voluntary and worry that many other 2008 sienna owners are unaware of this defective part and hence will not have this repaired. This hose is under pressure and if it goes completely car will spew oil everywhere and seize up! This is a potential fire and safely hazard!!! Toyota is very aware of this problem! In the end my dealer agreed to cover the cost of replacement, but i am forever dismayed at toyota's lack of concern for their customers! This was part of campaign recall 90k-2gr-fe v6 engine oil hose. *tr

I had a oil hose in my van get a hole. When it happened it spilled oil all over and in my opinion could have started a fire. The hose is connected to a pipe and the hose cannot be replaced. The whole pipe has to be replaced and i replaced mine. My research revealed this is a fairly common problem and that there is a toyota service bulletin for this problem but in the bulletin they claim it's for seepage of oil. Obviously toyota knows this is a problem as the new part i ordered is complete pipe with no hoses. The part number for the pipe is 15767. Is this something that can be further looked into as to why this is not a recall that toyota should properly fix? *tr

Flashing air bag indicator light, 4 tsb's have been issued for this problem with a replacement part. The tsb's are e1001-08, tsb 0069-12, tsb 0162-10, and tsb 0252-08. This is a major safety problem that toyota is refusing to recall and correct. The nhtsa needs to make a mandatory recall for defective toyota sienna airbag wiring. Toyota dealership is demanding $50 to read code and average repair cost of more than $1000 dollars. This vehicle has never been in an accident of any kind. There is no reason that the airbags should have a defective condition so soon. There is obviously a manufacturing problem with the system which is why toyota redesigned the part. Toyota cannot be allowed to charge customers $1000's of dollars to replace this essential safety equipment. *tr

While driving my sienna ac quit & few miles later i saw white smoke come from under the van in my mirror. I tried to slow down & brakes were not working. I tried to pull over & power steering was not working. Without any warning lights. After i pulled over, i walked to the back to see what the white smoke was. I noticed that the bumper cover had motor oil dripping down from the bumper & tail pipe. I noticed the white smoke was actually coming out from the front right side of the van. I ran to shut the engine off but i could not open the driver side doors. Luckily windows were opened due to the ac not working. I took the key out through the window & pulled the hood latch. By the time i got to the hood flames was coming from the right side. I could not open the hood, it was too hot. This happened in matter of seconds. Be aware that all this happened without any warning sound?S or light?S. I called 911. Just in minutes, the van was engulfed in flames & i had no chance to save anything out of the vehicle. The fire trucks arrived about 9 minutes, but by that time there was nothing left of my van. The fireman pointed out to me that there was an oil trail behind the van. The oil trace was visible for few miles. After they finished putting out the fire they showed me where the fire started on the van. It was the area on the left side of the engine around the belt. They said that the fire started from an oil leak on the engine and was started by the burst of oil spraying down on the and catalytic converter. Only two seconds of searching on google, i found out that toyota is well informed of the hazardous defect. The rubber oil supply line unexpectedly burst open and spray?S the engine oil out in less than few minutes. I never received any recalls or notification about this serious defect from toyota. Luckily none of my three kids was not in the van when this happened. *tr

While driving are 2008 sienna mini van with 51303 miles on it we had developed a sudden loss of oil from the engine. No check engine lights or warning lights came on notifying us that there was a problem. Observed that there was a large amount of oil loss in the driveway. Could track back where we were driving with the oil loss trail in the road. Did some research and learned that the engine in the sienna is that same as that in several other toyotas (avalons). I learned that there is a vvi oil line is faulty on the engine. Toyota used a rubber hose which results in failure which then results in engine damage due to the oil loss. Toyota recalled the same party on the avalon and is aware that this hose is bad and needs replacement. Toyota issued recall on the avalons but is not issuing a recall on the sienna. This is the same piece on the two vehicles. They then state that this hose with an average fails at 50-60000miles. They then stated that this hose is not covered under warranty. This hose bursting can cause engine damage and is also a safety issue. There needs to be a recall on this rubber oil hose on all vehicles. They know that this is a bad piece when talking with them. Also if it were to fail they then will state that since this hose caused the engine issues they will not cover it under warranty. This then results in people having to replace the engine in there vehicle for 5-10000dollars. When oil loss occurs it sprays every where getting on brakes, belts, and exhaust which could cause an accident and or fire. Also resulting in serious engine damage. Toyota know this vvi hose is bad and issued a recall on the same hose on the avalons. A five minute search on the internet will show you the issues with motor and vvi hose. A recall must be issued on all toyota vehicles with this motor which had the vvi oil hose. Thanks *tr
