I had traveled about 2 miles from home to a home depot and was driving at about 20 mph as i was about to turn into one of the parking lanes. Suddenly the car went into full speed as if i was full on the gas pedal. I nearly hit other cars trying to get control of my car. I tried shutting the engine off and then back on, but that did no good. My car only has about 70,000 actual miles on it as i am retired. Car is currently in a garage waiting for repairs.07242013

"defective gaskets fire hazard" oil dripping from valve cover caught fire burning plug wires and 3800 v6 engine shroud'. I had parked the vehicle in my drive. I went inside home for 2 minutes. I came back outside to retrieve a soda when i discovered smoke billowing from under hood. When i released hood latch and raised hood flames shot out driving me to the ground. I quickly got a wash bucket nearby and was able to put out fire. I don't know the extent of damage. I found out that over 1300 gm vehicles have caught fire due to this problem. I reported the incident to buick and was told a representative would contact me within 24 hours. 2 days pass no call and car sits in drive. I'm lucky i caught it as it could have caused a house fire as well.

The dashboard panel is separating at the front where it meets the defroster cowling. The separation is increasing along the front of the dash from driver to passenger side, and is starting to curl up considerably on the driver side. It is unknown how much further the separation/curling will continue, and is beginning to affect the vision of the driver just above the hood. I addition, other components under the dashboard are beginning to be exposed to sunlight. Further investigation suggests that this is an extremely common failure with this model vehicle, with multiple complaints from consumers, ranging from obscured driver vision, to potential or possible airbag deployment due to exposed components. Investigation also suggests that general motors is not acknowledging the existence of the problem, nor providing adequate solutions for repair despite numerous customer complaints and concerns.

While driving on a 40mph road, the engine spontaneously lost power - the power steering and brakes also ceased to function as a result. The radio and lights were still on. After guiding the stricken car to a safe area, i turned the engine back on and was able to drive as normal. The issue repeated roughly a week later at lower speed while going over a speed-hump in a shopping center parking lot. Note: the issue occurred following the addition of apartment and mail keys to the keyring. I separated the additional keys from the car's key following the second incident. The issue has not repeated since. *tr

Used buick lesabre custom 2003 cuts off while driving. The volt light appears and then the car shuts off. This is frightening and truly dangerous. The car will start back up usually after the first attempt, but sometimes it takes about two attempts. The car was taken to an auto repair shop where the car computer was replaced because the mechanics believed that to be the problem. However, after that was done, the car shut off again, several times, the very same day. The car was taken back to the auto repair shop and multiple tests were run and we were told about a number of problems ranging from the computer to the sensor. After all the tests were ran and parts replaced (computer and sensor), the car drove fine for two afternoons and then shut off again while at a traffic light. Fortunately, there was very little traffic and the light was red. The car turns back on but the fact that it shuts off at random and the mechanics cannot tell us the reason is unsettling. We have no solutions so far because the exact cause cannot be pinpointed. We do not feel safe driving this car. This issue has been recurring ever since june 27, 2014 and has become increasingly problematic. *tr

Approx. April 1, 2014 noticed that the dashboard was "lifting" away from the base. Since then it has gotten progressively worse, lifting from left hand side towards center of vehicle. Buick tells me it is not covered and there have been no recalls on it, yet i've seen 100's of complaints about same thing on the internet. Worried about safety of airbag(s) deploying and if it keeps lifting the way it has so far, visibility will become a factor. Vehicle was purchased new in august 2003. *tr

2003 buick le sabre. Dashboard is pulling away from the firewall. Electronic parts are exposed. As a result, airbag and other safety sensors and wiring is exposed. There have been reports of airbag deployment. The dash is pulling away toward the passenger side where the airbag is housed. There are many reports of issues on the internet. The dash has pulled away over 2" in the center. It is distracting while driving and if the air bag deploys, it will create an accident. I have a complaint to enter. The dash board cover has separated almost all the way across on my 2003 buick lasabre beginnnig at approximately 40,000 miles. I am being told it is dangerous because it might open the air bag on passenger side and inflict possible death or injury to passenger. It is also beginning to raise up at separation enough to hamper viewing when driving. This car has also had all four window regulators replaced and one in back twice for a total of 5 window regulators replacements. I have had to have alinements on front end more times than i ever had on any other vehicle i ever owned. The only thing that is good about the vehicle is the engine, i have had no complaint with it so far. Almost everyone i have talked to that owns a buick 2003 has had this same problem with the dash board. I hold gm liable if anything should happen because of the faulty dash board that might cause injury or death to my passenger. There are probably thousands of these vehicles with faulty dash boards. I never had to replace a single window regulator in any car i ever owned before. A class lawsuit might be the answer to all these problems. Can you help us ?

When the lesabre was reliable; it was reliable. However, when issues started to occur, they were massive. At approx 90k miles the transmission went with no warming and was instantly. After that the car still had issues with the drive, transmission and gears. The fuel pump and intake manifolds have been replaced. As of 2014 i continue to have issues with this vehicle. It currently runs very hard and when idle and in traffic (very scary) will randomly cut off with zero warning or even begin to smoke. There is the correct amount of oil and antifreeze. The car will randomly smoke as well. I have been to the mechanic several times trying to figure out the main issue so that it can be repaired. This is extremely frustrating. Dashboard separation in front of the steering column and it is now separating toward the passenger cabin, it is my concern that this will cause the passenger airbag to deploy while in motion, this started around july of 2011 and i have researched and found numerous other buick owners with this same complaint down to the minute detail. *tr

The upper dash pad is peeling from its backing, opening a 1" gap approximately a foot across, in front of the top of the steering wheel and directly behind the defroster grille housing. I have filed a complaint with gm, requesting financial assistance with repairs. Gm created a case file (#71-969127956) and i was denied any assistance. I then requested to speak with the gm district rep, who also denied any assistance and would not acknowledge knowing of buick having a problem with this component. The repair estimate i obtained is $1080.20. I first observed the problem when the vehicle had 47,000 miles. The passenger side air bag is enclosed in this pad and i am concerned that if the split in the dash extends far enough, it could cause the air bag to deploy. The vehicle now has 48,000 miles and aside from this problem, is in immaculate condition. Please advise me of any pending action nhtsa may be considering to force gm to take responsibility for this defect, which has been has also been reported to you by several other buick owners. I have a 2003 buick lasabre the dashboard is separating and raising up. It starts in front of steering wheel and goes half way to the passengers side of the car. It has came apart about two inches and is raised up about three inches ,and getting worse. The car is not left out side,so i don't think it is from the sun. If this separation reaches on across the dash(and the way it is going,it will) the passenger air bag may deploy and cause serious injury to the person it hits, or cause me to have an accident. I have talked to many people that have had this same problem with this same model buick, and that gm wont admit they have a design or workmanship problem and do the right thing and recall the cars for repair. Front disc brake pads do not wear evenly. The inboard pad (on both wheels) wears faster than the outboard pad. Problem is, only the outboard pads have the wear alerter. Took to garage and it was determined that the torque converter locked up, this car had the transmission oil replaced at recommended 50,000 miles, besides the 2200 dollars to replace transmission we had to get hotel room, meals and a rental car to continue trip as the replacement transmission could not be delivered right away. *tr

The vehicle was taken to an independent repair facility where the rear passenger window and regulator motor assembly were replaced. In addition, the mechanic advised that the regulator motor was defective and the failure would most likely recur in all of the other windows. The failure has since recurred on the drivers side rear window as well as the passenger side front window. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where both windows and regulator motor assemblies were replaced a second time. The failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage is 49,176. This incident is regarding a sudden transmission failure on a 2003 buick lesabre, purchased in may of 2003. In january of 2008, with 47,692 miles on the car, the transmission suddenly failed while the vehicle was in use. There was no warning before the incident - the vehicle lurched, bucked, rapidly picked up speed and rapidly lost speed without warning. This situation was incredibly dangerous to both myself, passengers and other motorists. My remedy was to immediately pull over and turn off the engine. The service manager at the vehicle repair center explained that this is a common problem with post-1997 buicks, in which there is a typically faulty transmission. He cited that he may see close to 100 similar cases per year. In fact, while i was discussing my car with him another post-1997 buick came in with the same problem. It seems that a chronic manufacturer's defect exists that affects the safety of the vehicle, and it has not been addressed by the manufacturer with a product recall or warranty concession for people who have experienced transmission failure. *tr

The dash pad is coming apart, separating and buckling up so high that it is now a visual hazard when driving. When the weather is somewhat warm or hot, the buckling is much worse. It is now separating further towards the passenger side and i am afraid that the air bag could possibly deploy while driving. This vehicle is equipped with a heads up display and even that is being affected by the dash pad coming apart. I paid lots of money for this vehicle and expect to keep and drive it for many years. With this safety defect getting much worse as time goes by, i now wonder how much longer i will be able to drive it. It is a complete shame because this vehicle is like brand new except for this unsafe factory defect. Every one of these vehicles from years 2001 thru 2005 that i have noticed in parking lots, driveways, garages, and even on the highways, have this same factory safety defect. I have friends and family members who own this same model vehicle but different year models, and their dash pads are exactly the same way as mine. Please make gm issue a recall and fix this safety defect before someone is killed!!!

A tire dealer in decatur (nearest my location at the time) replaced both front brake pads and rotors (36,000 miles). The problem is back. I helped my 78 year old mother purchase a 2003 buick lesabre in early jan. 2006. When i test drove car i noticed coolant was low and mentioned to salesperson. Dealer replaced leaking plenum gasket but did not report to me. Less than 300 miles later the car was severely losing coolant again. Dealer said upper intake manifold (plenum) was warped and needed replacement. Problem is that the only plenum gm makes for this engine is defective and will likely warp again, possibly destroying engine. This has happened to many owners of gm vehicles that have this engine. All repairs on my mother's car have so far been under warranty but warranty will soon run out. Warranty is supposed to cover any defects in manufacturing. Plenum is defective and the only gm authorized repair is with another defective plenum. This is just a temporary fix. I spoke with a former gm mechanic who told me that he sees this problem all the time and that gm knows about it. Plastic is not a suitable material for the plenum, as it warps due to engine heat. A recall is only way to remedy this problem. This engine is used in many vehicles (buicks and other models) that are popular with the elderly. It is unconsciousness that gm knowingly allows the elderly to drive cars that will likely leave them stranded. *jb

I have a 2003 buick lesabre that the dash has come unglued and has buckled up half way across the dashboard. The dash is mainly affected in the area infront of the steering wheel, but is getting worse and spreading towards the center and passenger side. I'm really scared to drive my car. So afraid the airbags may not work correctly in an emergency, or even worse, that the airbags go off for no apparent reason! I have friends with the same problem. There is an internet link with a buick lesabre forum where many other dissatisfied lesabre owners are complaining of the same problem. Therefore, i know mine is not an isolated case. I have contacted the dealership where i purchased the car. They told me gm was not responsible for this problem. An estimate of $525.49 was given just for a new upper dash. This did not include labor. Please help!!! *tr
