  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain 2012-2013 sorento, 2012-2015 forte and forte koup, 2011-2013 optima hybrid, 2014-2015 soul, and 2012 sportage vehicles. An engine compartment fire can occur while driving.
  kia will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine compartment for fuel and/or engine oil leaks, perform an engine test and make any repairs, including engine replacement, as necessary, free of charge. In addition, kia dealers will update the knock sensor detection system (ksds) software, free of charge. The recall began january 27, 2021. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. • Recall 126194 [USA]: If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of park without depressing the brake pedal. either condition increases the risk of a crash.
  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain 2012-2014 forte and forte koup vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. This will allow the brake lights to remain illuminated continuously. It can also allow the shift lever to be moved without depressing the brake pedal, or activate the engine management brake pedal override feature.

• Recall 106207 [USA]: If the cooling fan resistor overheats and melts, there is an increased risk of a vehicle fire.
  Kia motors america (kia) is recalling certain model year 2014 kia forte vehicles manufactured december 5, 2012, to april 17, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the cooling fan resistor may overheat and melt.
  kia will notify owners, and for vehicles produced from december 5, 2012 to january 27, 2014, dealers will replace the cooling fan resistor and multi-fuse unit. For vehicles produced from january 28, 2014 to april 17, 2014, dealers will replace the multi-fuse unit only. Owners of vehicles with a 1.8l engine will also have the engine control unit software updated. The recall began on february 20, 2015. Owners may contact kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.   Issue: on certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 l nu gdi or 2.4 l theta ii mpi engine, an engine compartment fire could occur while driving. Kia is conducting this recall as a preventative measure to prevent fire risk due to potential fuel leaks, oil leaks and/or engine damage. In some situations, you may notice any of the following symptoms: there could be an abnormal knocking noise from the engine; the check engine light and/or the oil pressure warning light could turn on; you may smell fuel, burning or smoke; or you may notice oil leaks. If you continue to drive the vehicle with these symptoms, the engine could fail and/or a fire could occur. An engine failure can cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: for the optima model, only the optima hybrid is affected by this recall. Safety risk: an engine compartment fire can create a risk of injury. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective action: kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an inspection of the engine and engine compartment. The dealer will inspect for fuel and/or engine oil leaks, perform an engine test and make any repairs, including engine replacement, if necessary.   Issue: over time, the brake lines under the vehicle could corrode. If this happens, a brake line could fail and leak. A brake fluid leak can result in reduced braking. Safety risk: reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the brake lines. The dealer will apply an anti-corrosion treatment and replace the brake lines, if required.

• Engine fires investigation # EA21003

  In 2017, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened two recall queries (rq17-003 and 004) following multiple recall actions initiated by hyundai and kia for “theta ii” engine-equipped vehicles. The rqs were opened to investigate both the timeliness and scope of the recalls as well as the compliance of each company to meet their reporting requirements established under the motor vehicle safety act. Numerous violations of the requirements were found for both companies, and in on november 20, 2020, both companies entered into consent orders with nhtsa to resolve nhtsa’s assertions of violations of law. Both consent orders remain in effect.In 2018, the center for automotive safety (cas) petitioned the agency under defect petition (dp) 18-003 to investigate non-crash fires on various hyundai and kia models, citing 120 voqs alleging vehicle fires at varying points of origin and occurring under various non-crash related circumstances (including key-off fires). In opening dp18-003, odi noted that many of the 120 fire incidents appeared to originate in the engine compartment area and made reference to the two open rq investigations as likely pertinent. Odi issued information request (ir) letters to hyundai and kia and several peer oems in its efforts to properly evaluate and disposition cas’ petition.After reviewing responses to the dp requests, odi granted cas’ petition and in 2019 opened two preliminary evaluations (pe19-003 and 19-004, one for each company) to broadly investigate incidents of non-crash fires (regardless of origin or operational status of the vehicle) on various model year hyundai (sonata and santa fe) and kia (optima, sorento and soul) models. Odi issued additional, more broadly scoped ir letters to both hyundai and kia, which upon review, identified certain vehicle populations exhibiting higher rates of non-crash fires for various defects and points of origin, including some due to engine failure.To date, hyundai and kia have issued several recallsto address vehicle fires, including those due to engine failure involving various engine types (theta ii gdi, theta ii mpi, theta ii mpi hev, nu gdi, and gamma gdi). The remedies for the engine failure recalls typically involve engine inspection (to detect existing damage), and if necessary, engine replacement. Additionally, both manufacturers are installing an engine control software modification known as knock sensor detection software (ksds) which is intended to detect impending engine failure, alert the driver, and limit engine power (to lessen likelihood of engine failure). Ksds is being installed under recalls and non-safety field actions, and both companies have extended limited engine warranties (see recall files). They have even replaced engines if the ksds software detects an impending engine failure.The 78 voqs cited above, which all involve fires likely due to engine failure, consist of 36 remedy-related and 42 scope-related incidents. The injury allegations involve eye and burn injuries not requiring medical treatment. With the 83 other voqs, odi is aware of 161 fires potentially due to engine failures. Second, the investigation will monitor and evaluate the efficacy of the recall remedies for engine fire related recalls, as well as the long-term viability of related programs and non-safety field actions being conducted by hyundai and kia.

The contact owns a 2014 kia forte. The contact stated that her vehicle hydroplaned while driving at 65 mph, which caused her to lose control of vehicle. The contact hit the right guardrail three times on the passenger side of her vehicle. The air bags did not deploy after multiple impacts. The contact nor her passenger needed medical assistance; however, they did both suffer minor scrapes and soreness. A police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow yard but was then towed to the contact's home where it remained in her possession. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be deemed destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

Motor locked up after getting recalls done and kia is saying no recall on motor

The contact owns a 2014 kia forte. The contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle started to emit hot air from the engine compartment into the cabin of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired nor diagnosed. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 20v750000 (engine) for which the vin was included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,600.

Hi. The problem that i am having is that a buy a car that was imported from florida to puerto rico. I verified the vin number and i see that it need to have 2 recall fix. I go to the local kia dealer and they say that because it was used imported vehicle they cant perform the recall. I want to know if it is any way that kia can authorize or if they are obligated to fix the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2014 kia forte. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was oil leaking onto the catalytic converter. The contact stated while driving the vehicle failed to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the local dealer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the engine and catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Steering coupler needed to be replaced. There have been warranty extensions for this part on several hyundai cars as well as kia optima. Same issue as i experienced. No recall yet on my vehicle. Had to pay $500 to get replaced

In may 2021 my daughter was in a bad car accident while driving my 2014 kia forte. The airbags did not go off and the seatbelts never tightened. Fortunately her and her passenger were not seriously injured and only received bruises on their knees and sore necks. There was so much damage to the front end of the car it was totaled by our insurance company. No warning lights were seen that day or even prior to the accident showing that the airbags weren't working properly. My car was not part of 6/18/18 kia forte recall#sc165 for airbags and seatbelts. The recall was for kia forte 2010-2013. While my kia was a 2014, i did take possess of it in 2013. Starting in january 2014 i brought the car back to the dealership many times because of all the electric issues i was having with it. Since the dealership could not replicate the codes while the car was there kia refused to look into or fix the problems. Electrical issues included doors not unlocking, doors not being able to be opened from inside or outside, windows not opening, headlights coming on while the car was parked, emergency flashers turning on without pushing the button, while driving traction/anti-slide light came on without a reason.
