  • Recall 2020216 [Canada]: Structure
Issue: on certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front cross-member (subframe). As a result, a lower control arm could eventually detach from the cross-member. This could cause a loss of vehicle control. Safety risk: a loss of control can create the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: mitsubishi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front cross-member (subframe). If no significant corrosion is found, the dealer will spray a sealing and anti-corrosion coating both inside and on the cross-member. If significant corrosion is found, the dealer will replace the cross-member.

  • Recall 2018054 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain vehicles, the sunroof may not have been bonded properly and could separate from the vehicle. This could pose a risk to other road users, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the sunroof glass assembly.

  • Recall 2018052 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the flange of the drive belt automatic tensioner may crack over time due to repetitive high load operations and stress concentration. This could cause the drive belt to detach, leading to battery depletion, which would result in a loss of motive power and a loss of power steering assist. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the auto tensioner with a countermeasure unit.

  • Recall 2017364 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area and potentially collect in the area of the wiper motor breathing hole. If the wiper motor is not operating, water could potentially enter the wiper motor through the breathing hole. If this occurs, over time, it could result in corrosion and/or an electrical conduction failure, both of which could result in the wiper motor not operating. If the wiper motor were to stop operating, the windshield wipers would become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the wiper motor with an upgraded wiper motor that will prevent water intrusion.

  • Recall 2016529 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the rubber boot which covers the ball joint with a countermeasure one, and the wiper motor crank arm will also be inspected and replaced as necessary.

  • Recall 2016317 [Canada]: Structure
On certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front crossmember assembly, which may ultimately lead to separation of the control arm at the mounting point. This would allow the wheel to rotate off its designed axis, and could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the crossmember and apply an anti-corrosion treatment or replace the assembly, as required.

  • Recall 2015166 [Canada]: Heater and defroster
On certain vehicles, the blower motor may have been incorrectly manufactured. This could result in a premature failure of the blower motor which could affect the defroster performance resulting in reduced visibility, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace blower motor and the power transistor as needed.

  • Recall 2015165 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
On certain vehicles, the ecu which controls the head lights, tail lights and windshield wipers may have been improperly manufactured. This could cause the voltage in the ecu to become unstable and cause the head lights and/or tail lights to turn off and/or the windshield wipers to become inoperable. This could affect driver visibility and decrease vehicle conspicuity, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace the affected ecu with an updated version.

  • Recall 2014398 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, a defect in the brake light switch could cause the brake lights to become inoperative. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the brake lamp switch.

  • Recall 2014397 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the drive belt material may cause abnormal pulley wear. If the vehicle is driven under this condition, the drive belt may become damaged from the worn pulley and detach, affecting electrical charging system and cooling system function and would illuminate the engine warning lamp(s) on the instrument panel. This could result in battery depletion and an overheated engine, resulting in a loss of motive power. Vehicles equipped with a hydraulic power steering system could also experience loss of power steering assist. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the drive belt, and the pulley will be replaced if it is found worn beyond a certain level.

  • Recall 2014248 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain 2012 to 2014 model year vehicles, due to improper manufacturing of the oil seal boss in certain transfer assemblies, the oil seal can become out of position and allow automatic transmission fluid to enter into the transfer assembly, resulting in reduced automatic transmission fluid pressure in the transaxle. This condition would illuminate the “automatic transmission” (a/t) warning light in the instrument panel and could result in the inability to shift gears or to drive the vehicle, increasing the risk of crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer assembly. Note: only a limited number of 2007 to 2010 model year vehicles equipped with a replacement transfer assembly are included in the recall population.

  • Recall 2014247 [Canada]: Steering
Certain 2013 model year vehicles with a 6-speed automatic transmission may have been manufactured with insufficient clearance between the power steering pressure tube and the bosses on the converter housing of the automatic transaxle. This may cause the power steering pressure tube to rust from abrasive contact between the two components. In the worst case, a pin hole could develop and allow for power steering fluid leakage, which can result in the loss of power steering assist and increase the risk of crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the power steering pressure tube and return tube. Note: only a limited number of 2007 to 2012 model year vehicles equipped with a replacement automatic transaxle with the bosses on the converter housing are included in the recall population.

  • Recall 2009072 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the brake booster check valve may stick closed when the engine is shut off. When the vehicle is re-started and put into motion, under certain driving conditions (very slow vehicle manoeuvres), there may be insufficient initial braking assist, which could temporarily increase the stopping distance. This could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the brake booster check valve.

Exact problems as a recall issued on select 09 outlander on 6/25/14 for power train: automatic transmission but my vin does not match as a vehicle affected by this recall. Is there a possibility my select vehicle should have been included in this recall? I have seen many many similar complaints stating the same.

Mitsubishi outlander se front subframe crossmember cradle has corroded and will not pass inspection. The cradle is where the steering attaches and raises a safety concern should the cradle break due to the corrosion. There are many mitsubishi vehicles that have a recall on this condition, but for some reason this vehicle is not included.

The front cross member rusted so badly that it broke off during normal driving. The frame failed at the lower a-frame on the driver's side resulting in the entire wheel/suspension assembly to fail and the vehicle crashed down to the frame and skidded along the road to stop. This is a 10 year old car that has always been kept in a garage, always parked on pavement or concrete, and has typical mileage. The vehicle was being driven normally in city traffic at the time of the failure, speed was about 30 mph.

Seat belt comes unbuckled at random times while driving the vehicle. It has happened at least a dozen times.

NoNoN NoneNone20181020

Front crossmember rusted through causing the vehicle to lose control. Through luck/skill managed to get to the side of the road without incident but basically the core support that holds the wheels experienced rust rot. This seems to be a big problem with many mitsubishi cars from 2003-2013 but for some reason my vehicle was excluded from this recall.

Low beam headlights completely failed due to defective etacs ecu. The vehicle was on a highway at night. The vehicle was taken to the mitsubishi dealer and the defect was confirmed. Mitsubishi was contacted but they will do nothing without nhtsa involvement. In addition, the blower failed due to the etacs ecu so the defroster does not work to keep the windshield clear.

"takata recall" i was involved in a collision in which totaled my car. The front was completely smashed and torn apart. The problem is... My air bags never deployed during this accident and we were hit while doing 35mph. I was informed that airbags deploy in car accidents if going more then 10mph or depending on where you are hit. I have both front and side airbags and so i'm curious as to why these didn't help us during this accident in which could have prevented my injuries causing me to leave the scene in an ambulance.

If u open the lever inside the car to open the door to open it wouldn't open. It happen two times with me. I have to drive it to the dealers to open it. I'm glad i just have enough fuel to get there. To me this is a nerve breaking. U can get stuck if you are far driving and u cannot open the door to put gas. Now i bring it to the dealer service again they say that the cable going to open is wear out or broke. It's a week now the cable is not coming yet. They open the door for my had tank but i cannot close it. Or else i'm cannot open it or i can get stuck somewhere if i have no gas .If i closed the door. 46$ to the cable and they said maybe 200$ or more to the labor. This is scary if u are driving far u trying to put gas u cannot open the dooor to get get gas u stuck. It's to expensive for the tow truck. U lucky if u are closed to a dealer. But u have to wait for the parts. Now i have to put a duck tape so nobody can closed it or if i put gas i cannot accidentally closed it or else i'm stuck with no gas. I'm just lucky that i have enough gas to the dealer when i bring the car to them.

Front cross member corrosion caused driver side lower control arm to detach. Lost control of vehicle at low speed after pulling away from a stop sign. It could have caused a serious accident at higher speed. I have contacted mitsubishi and although sympathetic, no assistance was offered and i was informed that no applicable recalls or safety notices apply to my vin, the vehicle is not driveable. I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and without warning both of my low beam lights went out. I checked fuses and the next time i used the car the lights worked. My wife used the car one night and was driving on a dark country road and the lights once again went out without warning. She was very upset and returned home immediately. Luckily she was not too far from home. I found a recall for the 2009 outlander that sounded just like of my problem (sr-15-002; etacs ecu). I called mitsubishi and they said there was no recall on my vehicle and that i should take it to the dealer. I took it to the dealer and they verified the problem was the etacs ecu. They said my car was made 4 months outside the recall window but they contacted mitsubishi to see if they would authorize the repair. Mitsubishi declined to authorize the repair. I contacted mitsubishi for a written reason why , but they have not responded to date. I feel that this is a safety issue which should be covered by a recall.

In dec 2012 the tire sensor indicator showed one of the tires was in need of air. I went to fill it and the valve blew off and the tire deflated immediately. Had to put on the spare and have the sensor and valve replaced, $200. In may 2013 again the indicator showed a tire was low. I filled it and later that day i turned a corner and found it was totally flat and the tire was ruined. Again put on the spare and took it to tire warehouse (on a sunday my dealer was not open). They informed me the piece of the sensor/valve was missing causing it to go flat very quickly. I had to purchase 2 new tires since that one was ruined. They also noticed that the same part that was missing from the flat tire, is also missing on the other front tire causing that to loose air also . We also checked the remaining rear tire and that same part was cracked and corroded and ready to also come off and cause another flat. I in turn had them replace each sensor with a regular valve. I contacted my dealer and they were told by mitsubishi that due to the age of the car and mileage there was nothing they could do. This in turn would cost me approximately $600 for the remaining 3 sensors to be replaced. Obviously the part is poor quality and corrodes easily. It is an extremely expensive part to replace with no alternatives when the life of the part is so short. The car is not even 4 years old. The way that mitsubishi is handling this problem is unacceptable and i would never buy from them again because they do not stand behind their inferior parts. *tr

We received a recall notice on a 2009 mitsubishi outlander. It was purchased in october of 2009. The recall notice was sent by mail march 17, 2010. The car was purchased at edison motors, brad benson dealer in monmouth, n.J. It was purchased new. It was sent to almaty, kazahkstan to my son who works for the state department and lives there with his wife and two very young children. The recall was to replace the brake booster valve. I called the dealer and they said it had been done. To double check, i called mitsubishi and they say it has not been done. We have asked edison to send my son the parts, because the warranty is not recognized out of the u.S.A., and he will have it placed into the car. Is there any way you can check with the vin#[xxx] to see if the work has been done. The car is under the name of [xxx]. If you can please put our minds at ease information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.S.C. 552(b)(6). *tr

As i was driving my brand new car i just got 2 months ago(mitsubishi outlander 2009) on the n.J. Parkway all of a sudden i heard a crack from my sunroof and then suddenly the glass just exploded into many pieces. Thank god! I had the cover closed that prevented me from getting shattered glass in my face or getting into an accident with another vehicle . Mind you nothing at all hit my car nor were their any cars beside me. As i kept on driving to my nearest exit i saw remaining glass pieces flying off my sunroof everywhere. When i came to a stop light i opened the cover slightly and saw there was a whole there as well as glass sitting ontop. So the next day i take the car to the dealers they tell me it's out of their hands and that i have to go through manufacturer. When the dealer returned my call 3 days later they told me mitsubishi manufacturer denied the claim to replace the sunroof glass. I then called in the manufacturer myself and put into two more complaints asking them to re-examine the emailed pictures they got from dealers and they still persisted it wasn't a defect and that it was from an outside source. I had no choice but to turn to my insurance and make a claim. I cannot understand why they would not think this is not a defect when no type of outside source ever hit my car. I could have gotten hurt if i had not had that shade covering me. It's been 2 weeks already and my sunroof is still with a broken and defected roof. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 mitsubishi outlander. The contact stated that the tire pressure sensor would active due to corrosion in the valve stem. The corroded valve stem would fracture from the tire and caused the tires to go flat. The contact replaced the sensor numerous times. The dealer was notified and stated that they would replace the part, but the contact stated that the part was the cause of the failure and replacing it would not be a proper remedy. The manufacturer was also notified and stated that they would assist the contact while under warranty. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage was 33,000.
