• Recall 136043 [USA]: An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire.
  Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling certain 2016-2018 toyota prius vehicles. A portion of the engine wire harness connected to the hybrid power control unit (pcu), could contact the cover at this connection and wear, causing an electrical short circuit.
  toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine wire harness assembly and replace it if damage is found. A protective sleeve or protective tape will be included to prevent any future damage. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began october 30, 2018. • Recall 122654 [USA]: If the parking brake cable disengages from the mechanism and the transmission is left in a gear other than 'park' while the ignition is on and the driver leaves the vehicle, the vehicle may roll unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures.   Issue: on certain vehicles, a connection in the main wire harness may have been damaged during assembly. This could cause hybrid drive system to shut down, and result in a loss of power to the drive wheels. If this happens, an error message will display on the instrument panel and a warning chime will sound. Note: this recall only affects vehicles which had the seat heater installed at the port facility. Safety risk: a loss of power to the drive wheels could increase the risk of a crash.   On certain vehicles, the electrical power cords of some dealer installed block heaters may have been improperly manufactured, causing the wires to contact each other, resulting in a short circuit. A short circuit could lead to a fire which would increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: for vehicles where the subject block heater was approved for installation, the dealer will replace the block heater assembly with a new one of an improved design. For vehicles where the subject block heater was not approved for installation, dealers will remove the block heater assembly. In the interim, until the remedy can be performed, dealers will cut the plug end from the block heater cord to disable the block heater's operation.

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

Windshield cracked from bottom to top and across while sitting and there was no evidence of a rock or chip that would cause that. Air temp was about 95 degrees. No rain, no impact, car was sitting parked and not running.

For the second time (first in 2019) i was seconds and maybe two feet from stopping the car to park when, with my foot on the brake, the car suddenly and without warning lunged forward at what seemed like full throttle. The first "crash" was in my driveway. The force was shocking and took off the front of the car. I insisted toyota investigate and they ultimately denied any liability. After the car was allegedly repaired, i started noticing another phenomenon: every time i would slow down to brake--approaching an intersection or stop sign, etc.--the car would briefly lunge forward before the brakes engaged to stop the car. I reported this to the dealer 2-3 times and each time i was assured that this was "normal" for a hybrid transitioning from gas to electric at a lower speed. Two weeks ago, with a friend in the car, i was pulling into a parking space, foot on the brake and about to stop, when the same thing occurred: without warning, the car lunged forward, at what seemed like full throttle, and crashed into a low concrete wall. Had it been seconds later, we would have had our seatbelts off and gone into the windshield. There were injuries. Fyi, i have a pretty much perfect driving record and log thousands of miles each year. I had zero problems with the prius i owned prior to this one. I will never drive this car again.

The vehicle was running and stopped at a stop light. When accelerating to proceed from the stop light the vehicle would barely accelerate no matter how far we pressed the gas pedal down. The engine was not revving faster it just appeared to stay in ev mode with very little acceleration. Finally after about 5-10 seconds the car starts accelerating. We are very concerned that if this occurs at a turn onto a busy road we could be in a position where we are stuck in the middle of oncoming cross traffic. This is very intermittent, maybe once or twice per summer (usually in the hotter times of the year). We've had the car at the dealership and both times they have said they found no problem. Searching on the internet this sounds like tsb-0241-17, which i have shared with the dealer but both times they have indicated they see no sign off a problem.

The covering on the steering wheel at the hand locations has excessive wear and the plastic is rough on skin. The manufacture will not warranty the steering wheel cover because of being out of warranty i do not feel that a steering wheel cover should wear off in less than two years regardless of mileage which is currently at 139000 miles.

My 2 year check up w/14,932 miles i was advised my front rotors need to be replaced due to poor pad contact and rear rotors are grooved heavily and need to be replaced as well. I was shocked. I did not have replaced . Mechanic said will not pass inspection. Is there a recall? What is going on w/toyota prius brakes. Am afraid to drive car and can't afford to replace rotors every 15,000 miles.
