  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2010-2012 1 series coupe, 1 series convertible, 3 series sedan, 3 series convertible, 2010-2011 3 series sportswagon, 3 series coupe, 5 series sedan, x3 xdrive 28i, x3 xdrive 30i, x5 xdrive30i, and z4 sdrive30i vehicles. The aluminum bolts that secure the housing for the variable camshaft timing adjustment (vanos) unit can loosen over time and possibly break.

If not addressed it is possible for further heat build up in the pump which may cause the plug connection and housing to melt and in extreme cases a localised fire in the engine compartment or vehicle.

  The screws retaining the variable camshaft timing (vanos) housing may loosen and under certain circumstances the heads may break off. This can lead to the vanos leaking oil internally and adversely affect the valve timing adjustment. If found to deviating from targeted data the engine emergency mode will be activated. This will be indicated by a distinct change in engine running. The orange engine management warning lamp and a check message; on vehicles with n51/n52 engines this will appear at ignition recycle on n55 engine it will display immediately.

  On certain vehicles, the wires going to the in-tank fuel pump may not have been crimped correctly. An incorrect crimp could increase the resistance of the circuit which could cause the contact pin to heat and melt the surrounding plastic. This could potentially cause the fuel pump to stop working causing the vehicle to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Also, in a very rare case, a fuel leak combined with an external ignition source, could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.   On certain bmw x5 xdrive35d (diesel) vehicles, the engine belt idler pulley bolt could loosen and/or break. As such, the belt may become detached, resulting in a sudden loss of steering power assist. A vehicle experiencing a loss of steering power assist would revert to a manual steering mode which would require greater driver effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could ultimately result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the idler pulley bolt and tighten with a revised torque procedure. A thread locking compound will be applied to the replacement bolt.

• Idler pulley bolt failure investigation # RQ18001

  In a may 23, 2018 letter, bmw of north america, llc (bmw) notified the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) of a safety defect that may result in the loss of power steering assist in certain model year (my) 2009 through 2013 bmw x5 xdrive35d vehicles (recall 18v-336). The recall, which affects approximately 33,214 vehicles built from march 12, 2008 through june 27, 2013, corrects the remedy and expands the scope of a prior bmw recall (12v-550) which addressed idle pulley bolt failure in approximately 29,800 my 2009 through 2012 bmw x5 xdrive35d vehicles built from september 1, 2008 through november 15, 2012. Bmws analysis indicates that due to a number of contributing factors it is possible that the bolts pre-stressing force could drop to an extent that it results in the bolt becoming loosened over time. A loosening of the bolt could cause additional bending stress on top of the bolt. As a result, the bolt could break. If this were to happen, then a sudden loss of power steering assist could occur.If there were a loss of power steering assist, manual steering capability would be retained, although the effort required to steer the vehicle would be greater, and therefore may increase the risk of crash.Odis analysis of the complaints it has received from the public (voqs) and bmw complaint data submitted in response to the information request letter for rq18-001 identified a total of 93 unique vin reports alleging failure of the idler pulley bolt after recall 12v-550 was completed on the vehicle, including 31 voqs and 72 bmw consumer complaints (5 complaints received by nhtsa and bmw, 3 unique vins submitted multiple complaints to bmw, and 1 unique vin submitted multiple complaints to nhtsa).Bmw is developing a new idler pulley fastening system as the remedy for 18v-336.The remedy is planned to begin in february 2019.Based on bmws safety recall, this recall query is closed.The 31 voqs referenced in this resume are: 10499780, 10559422, 10579534, 10655424, 10661614, 10702323, 10819617, 10903433, 10948014, 10984353, 11002447, 11010667, 11013643, 11041551, 11054759, 11054909, 11066063, 11083479, 11097562, 11098865, 11113332, 11128649, 11130277, 10552773, 10817406, 10937632, 10956710, 11032006, 11042259, 11063010, 11091513.

While driving home from work, the engine light came on and reduced speed on i95 interstate 95south in chicago. I have spend over $18,000 on engine issue and high consumption of oil is also a major issue. There is a severe engine issue that may lead to an auto accident while driving. Once the engine reduce power it's very difficult to pull the truck over to safety. The whole x5 5.0i needs to be recalled.

Below the cabin filter my 2011 bmw x5 has a integrated supply module that supply electricity to the spark plug for my surprise that modules burn because of the water .

Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 17v138000 (power train) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 171,171.

Vehicle is not stationary at any time this problem occurs. Took vehicle to nearest mechanic, who is ase certified and bmw . Said that vehicle needs front drive shaft. Explained that there is recall 17v-138 on my vehicle. Recommended contacting local bmw service for replacement. Technician states that driveshaft is failing at same area as recall explains. When contacting tom hesser bmw of scranton, pa, was told vehicle had service action performed in 2015 (prior to si b26 02 17) under previous owner at around 57,000 miles. Extended warranty covers 10 years or 120,000 miles. Vehicle has 137,000. Asked if vehicle could be covered under bmw customer goodwill. Was denied for not being a regular customer. Filed a formal complaint with bmw north america. Defective part was replaced with defective part which has only lasted 60,000 miles and now endangers more accidents as vehicle driveshaft could catastrophically fail at any point. Recall has not addressed issue of safety and reliability.

Bmw usa is hidden recall information and repair history and i am worried about cause i don’t know what they change or do of my care i need this information please.
