  • Recall 2018588 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the wiper link rod with a countermeasure one, and will replace the wiper motor crank arm with a new one.

  • Recall 2018052 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the flange of the drive belt automatic tensioner may crack over time due to repetitive high load operations and stress concentration. This could cause the drive belt to detach, leading to battery depletion, which would result in a loss of motive power and a loss of power steering assist. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the auto tensioner with a countermeasure unit.

  • Recall 2016382 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road salt usage, a mixture of snow, water and road-salt solution may infiltrate between the front impact sensor and the bracket that attaches it to the vehicle. Over time, repeated freezing/thawing cycles could cause a crack to develop in the sensor case allowing water intrusion and short circuit of the sensor. In the event of a crash, this could result in delayed deployment of the driver and passenger front airbags which would increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the front impact sensor and replace it if it is found to be cracked. An updated designed bracket and cover will also be installed.

  • Recall 2015166 [Canada]: Heater and defroster
On certain vehicles, the blower motor may have been incorrectly manufactured. This could result in a premature failure of the blower motor which could affect the defroster performance resulting in reduced visibility, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace blower motor and the power transistor as needed.

  • Recall 2014397 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the drive belt material may cause abnormal pulley wear. If the vehicle is driven under this condition, the drive belt may become damaged from the worn pulley and detach, affecting electrical charging system and cooling system function and would illuminate the engine warning lamp(s) on the instrument panel. This could result in battery depletion and an overheated engine, resulting in a loss of motive power. Vehicles equipped with a hydraulic power steering system could also experience loss of power steering assist. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the drive belt, and the pulley will be replaced if it is found worn beyond a certain level.

  • Recall 2013316 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, the clutch master cylinder may fail, resulting in an inability to disengage the clutch or to shift gears. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, increased stopping distances and engine stalling. Such an occurrence could increase the risk of a crash causing injury or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the clutch master cylinder.

I smell fuel in my car fairly often, also i have a recall on my car and the dealership will do nothing about it. I ran codes and they all point back to an issue with th computer. When i'm driving it will just start smelling like fuel. I am usually on a city street or freeway. The last thing to happen to me is the car drove like it wanted to start and stop, i was on a street turning to the next one. The transmission service required popped on.I turned the car off then off again and the car would not engage in any gear.

This is regarding multiple recalls for my vehicle. I purchased the vehicle in st.Thomas virgin islands from budget rent a car in 2013. There has been 3 recalls for my vehicle since then i was not notified, only through research i found out. I've called the budget dealer, essentialy told me its my problem, called mitsubishi, they have no contact number but gave me a url for the global website, which has no contact info. I'm at a loss and have no options left. I personally do not know if all these recalls pertain to my vehcile, but numerous mechanics told me that there is a problem with the engine around the belt area. I hope this reaches someone that can assist.

Purchased 2011 lancer in 2011. In march 2013 mitsubishi issued a tech service bulletin and revised it in june of 2013. The engine service light comes on and must be taken to dealer for service. Mitsubishi does a simple software upgrade to the ecm and resets. The problem is that is mitsubishi is simply letting these vehicles get to this failure point and vehicles can go into limp mode (meaning drive no faster than 45mph) rather than proactively avoiding the problem. Further, they are knowingly allowing vehicles to get past the warranty period without repair thus forcing customers to pay to have this known issue resolved. To add to the problem is mitsubishi will not allow non-mitsubishi service centers, mechanics or repair shops to update the ecm and i am forced to take it to an authorized mitsubishi dealer for fixing. Because these vehicles have had other safety recalls and warranty repair work, they should have simply taken 15 minutes to upgraded the ecm software and reset at the time to avoid this from happening rather than letting the warranty expire and charging me to fix a known issue.

After filling up on gasoline, my 4 year old mentioned that she smelled gas in the car. I immediately got home and pulled into my garage and smelled it, too. Then next morning, my garage was overwhelmed with the fumes. After having a mechanic inspect the car, he found gas was leaking from the top of the tank, where the fuel pump goes. Apparently, it was completely corroded, which caused the plastic fuel pump housing attached to it to crack and subsequently leak fuel everywhere. This fuel pump housing is located directly beneath my son's car seat, on the driver's side back seat. This is a serious fire hazard. After reaching out to other owners of the same vehicle, apparently this corrosion is very common. But my car is not even 6 years old, with only 48k miles (purchased it new on 12/27/2011). This shouldn't be happening on such a relatively new car.

The transmission doesn't shift into gear easily as well as jumps out of first gear when taking off from stop. When shifting into 3rd and 5th it is difficult to shift into while moving. This is a dangerous situation when driving. All upper gears are difficult to shift into. The clutch failed twice in less than 40k miles then the replacement failed after only 1,000. Not sure if they are related.

This car we own was in a accident the whole front end was pushed in cause it hit a mercury mountaineer. The geico adjuster couldnt beleive that the airbags did not deploy nor the seatbelt retracted! The only thing that saved my wife was the seatbelt for a sec and hitting the steering wheel. The adjuster also had said that the sensors for the air bags were tripped and it did not work. This is a huge safety issue! Geico is filing a subrogation claim against mitsubishi since we called mistsubishi and they didnt want to do anything about it. Marias at mistubishi just said to file a claim with our insurance without even sending their own people to check out the vehicle. Marieas can be reached at 18886487820 claim number 1254613189. He didnt even have the courtesy to send his own investigators to find out what happened! The whole front end of the mitsubishi lancer was pushed in and was pronounce a total loss from geico. Acd/ayc pump has completely stop working in my vehicle. I took my vehicle to be service and the person who was doing the service on my car told me that the acd/ayc pump has gone out and i need a replacement. I found that weird, because i have not driven my car for roughly about a month and for an issue to pop up was very weird. After doing research, i seems that multiple people have the same issue were these pumps go out unexpected. There are only 1400-1600 of these cars made year in the states and to see many people have this problem in the u.S. And around the world mind boggling to many of us. Mitsubishi needs to find another solution or remedy to this issue. Since i live in the south, my local dealership is not wanting to cover this and i travel along the east coast with my car.

The ayc pump failed by displaying a blinking tarmac light. It constantly flashes while driving. The ayc pump correlates with the steering and stability control for the rear differential. This is a big hazard. The ayc pump should be relocated to the trunk compartment so it is not exposed to weather conditions like snow and rain. This will protect the ayc pump from failing. The warranty will not cover this failed pump at all. *tr

Tarmac icon blinks incessantly on the display panel, as one drives. The blinking can cause photosensitive epilepsy (pse), which is a form of epilepsy seizures triggered by visual stimuli that form patterns in time or space, such as flashing lights, bold, regular patterns, or regular moving patterns. I found out later, the blinking is an indicator the acd pump - active center differential - is failing and it's only a matter of time before the component completely gives out. Many, many individuals from the community experiences the acd pump failure due to design and placement of the component in an inopportune location. As such, corrosion from moisture and salt deposit on the road can easily infiltrate into the pump component, causing failure in due time. Further poor sealing, lack of weather protection (anti-corrosion spray) and poor placement all contributes to the systematic, premature failure of a $1500 pump. *tr

Vibration of the steering wheel when driving over 60 mph. Persist after changing tires, wheels, brake pads and discs. This shaking makes the car unstable and is a safety issue.

NoNoN NoneNone20140731

The issue first presented itself as a flashing all wheel control indicator light at approximately 35,000 miles while on the highway. It was initially an intermittent issue that occurred only occasionally. I arrived home from my trip and was at the dealership at 36,200 miles. Their scanner indicated a C161E code which indicates an acd pump actuator lock. The dealership stated this can happen under aggressive driving conditions and was normal. However, after informing them the issue occurred while cruising on the highway and also when stopped at a light they informed me to return if the issue persisted. I returned a week later after i confirmed the issue occurred every time i drove the vehicle, but they were unable to read codes because their diagnostic tool had broken. At 37,000 miles the vehicle displayed a message indicating i needed to service the all wheel drive system. The nearby dealership's scanner was still broken. At 37,900 miles i arrived at a different dealership and they found the codes C161E and C161F which indicates an acd pump failure. During the time since the issue first began i also noticed the traction control didn't appear to function. In wet conditions when i lost traction i did not see the dash indicator for traction loss / traction control nor did i feel the system kick in to compensate. I believe this presents a potential safety issue. This appears to be a common and well documented issue, especially in areas of varying climate. The root cause in my scenario is most likely volatile local weather where winters involve heavily salted roads and temperatures that range from warm to below freezing in the same day. This can lead to premature pump failure due to a known issue with a pump seal and rust. *tr

Monday morning i warmed up my car for 5 minutes. Started to drive my car for about 15 seconds, awd service required popped up on my display. I stopped the car and brought it back home. Looked up what the issue could be and found out that the acd pump has failed. This is a well known problem from mitsubishi for these cars and they have not issued a recall or real fix. Without the acd pump functioning, there is a possibility that the car can lose traction in certain situations or damage the entire drivetrain system. Mitsubishi claims that its not part of the drivetrain so there is no warranty and it's also a "luxury" system. Controlling wheel traction is not a luxury its a safety feature. *tr

I own a mitsubishi lancer evolution x gsr 2011. I purchased this vehicle on february 2013 brand new. By the end of september 2013 (7 months) i had about 15,000 miles on the vehicle and i started experiencing a problem with the acceleration of the vehicle. The gear was engaging properly but there was a delay on getting traction to the wheels. The engine ramped up several rpms before the car started accelerating in any gear. On october 2nd 2013 i took the vehicle to the mitsubishi dealership and i was told that i have to replace the clutch because it was worn off. I could not believe this since the vehicle was fairly new and i have never experienced this problem before, all my previous vehicles have had manual transmission. I also got the vehicle checked with two local mechanics and they told me that the clutch was worn off beyond normal. The clutch is not under manufacturer's warranty because it's wear off depends on the driver according to mitsubishi. The problem arises when i checked the national highway traffic safety administration website for recalls and i found out that in november 11 2013 there will be a recall noticed for my vehicle for the clutch master cylinder. After november 11 i called the dealership to confirm that my car is one of the cars affected and it was indeed. I got the clutch master cylinder replaced and the car is still having the same problem as before. My question is, and i need to know if the national highway traffic safety administration can do the research for me, what is the effect of a damaged clutch master cylinder on the wearing of a clutch? I now have to pay over $2,000 to the dealership to have the clutch replaced. If the clutch was damaged due to miss-function of the master cylinder wouldn't mitsubishi have to cover repair cost for the early wearing of the clutch? Please get back to me. Sincerely, *tr

When cold temperature comes (around 20f) or below you can hear a very loud whine coming from the ayd/acd pump located in the passenger side wheel well when first staying vehicle. When this happens there will be a moment where the tarmac/gravel/snow indicator lights on the dashboard blink and puts the pump into failsafe mode. If you drive while the pump is in failsafe mode the handling is terrible and any engine braking is non existent. Over the past few winters i have experienced this up until this write up. Now in warmer weather (70f) or above the pump is stuck in fail safe mode and does not return to normal operation like it sometimes would in winter months. This pump provides the front and rear differential assembly with the fluid needed to provide normal and adequate driving. Vehicle now has 41000 miles and needs this pump replaced which is just over 2,000 usd. After much research, i have found weather and/or salt/sandy roads to cause premature failure of this pump. I believe my pump went as a combination of both because of poor placement by mitsubishi to locate this pump just behind the passenger rear wheel under the vehicle. I now have a hefty bill to look forward to every 3-4 years in pump replacement costs alone if i keep this hazard of a car. *tr

My car began to have a flashing active yaw control light on the instrument panel. It was determined that ayc/acd pump was failing due to severe corrosion. When this happens, the awd stops functioning, so the car is now in two wheel drive mode. Mitsubishi mounted the ayc pump in the rear fenderwell area where it is openly exposed to the winter elements such as snow, salt and sand. This is a very well known problem and the dealer i went to has done about 6 cars in the last month or so just for this problem. The car was taken to a local mitsubishi dealer for warranty repair. The dealer was very helpful and was going to replace the pump under warranty, but when was denied the request due to the fact that the engine had had a "tune" on it. So, the pump will have to be repaired at cost to myself. The reason i am bringing this to your attention is because this is a very apparent design flaw. Placing a critical part like this pump openly exposed to snow, salt and sand thrown up by the tires which in turn corrodes the pump, is a safety hazard. This stops the awd to function and renders the car to be only driven in two wheeled drive mode when the car is in fact, designed for all wheel drive. There are so many well documented cases of this problem, at some point in time, mitsubishi will have to acknowledge this and do something to mitigate the severe corrosion of the ayc pump.

Bought this car brand new only had it a little over a month, service engine light comes on,dealer told me it was misfiring and fixed. 2 weeks later service engine light comes on again, called and made appt. Next day i am driving down the highway and hear a loud grinding noise, transmission blew. And to top it off manufacture won't cover warranty because evidentially i was racing and doing burnouts, which wasn't the case at all. This car definitely has defects. Even if i was beating it and doing what i was accused of i highly doubt the trans would of blew that fast. I was never told why the service engine light came on the 2nd time but was told that the trans wouldn't make it come on which is untrue. *tr

Rented from hotwire at san juan airport. Car rental was hertz. While reversing from parking spot at hertz lot, roaches came out of dashboard. I stopped at the office to change car. Agents were not concerned. I asked for another car without the bugs and it took some time to get another car. I inspected it and didn't find any. I drove off. The next morning i drove to ponce and back that night. Drove up & down a steep mountain side. When i parked that night roaches came out of that car too. Called several numbers, was freaked out, and no one seemed concerned. My dad sprayed the car that night, cleaned it up and the next morning we drove back to hertz to get a new car. My concern was that if those bugs would have come out while i drove the mountainside, i probably would have killed myself if they did come out and crawled on me. Im familiar with the roads but for the tourist that rent cars there it is definitely a safety issue and something has to be done. *tr

At slow speeds when your foot off the accelerator or holding it steady and you apply the pedal down to go forward there is a delay as if the transmissions trying to find a speed to go to. My mechanic checked out the engine all computers systems are good and the engine runs fine he is linking it to the transmission being a cvt and possibly a defective or bad design. So far the car is working ok with the exception that the transmission, engine, gas pedal, gear-speed-clutch stick, are not functioning as expected by the standards approved by mitsubishi automotive usa. The car cannot accelerate properly and it is consuming too much gasoline and engine oil.
