  • Recall 2020216 [Canada]: Structure
Issue: on certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front cross-member (subframe). As a result, a lower control arm could eventually detach from the cross-member. This could cause a loss of vehicle control. Safety risk: a loss of control can create the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: mitsubishi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front cross-member (subframe). If no significant corrosion is found, the dealer will spray a sealing and anti-corrosion coating both inside and on the cross-member. If significant corrosion is found, the dealer will replace the cross-member.

  • Recall 2018588 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the wiper link rod with a countermeasure one, and will replace the wiper motor crank arm with a new one.

  • Recall 2018054 [Canada]: Accessories

The brake lights were no longer functioning, but the tail lights were still operating. The car failed inspection due to brake lights not functioning and the vehicle was taken to the dealership for diagnostics. The ecu, part number 8637c096 is what is in my vehicle. There is a safety recall for a 2009 lancer, sr-15-002, for the ecu but because of the part number (8637a826) difference the dealership will not replace my ecu that is faulty. Upon further personal investigation i have found several issues surrounding the ecu for lancers;10091781, 10158957, 10142736, 10117850, 10158956, 10158955, 10142736, 10158957. Several individuals have reported electrical problems and that the company would not fix the issue. (https://www.Carcomplaints.Com/mitsubishi/lancer/2009/electrical/electrical_system.Shtml) part numbers are "not typically given out" i was told at the dealership on september 24th, 2020. The replacement part number i was given would be 8637c496. However, this part must be programmed by a liscened dealer....This monopoly of parts, refusal to give out part identification numbers, and extreme cost (of the part ~$870) has caused people to be unable to afford the repair while the manufacture is essentially not covering the cost of the safety concern and puts the cost of repair on the consumer.. Or the vehicle cannot pass inspection and therefor cannot continue to be in service. I will not own another mitsubishi because of this. My husband purchased this car brand new. I am the second owner and all safety recalls, service, and even tire rotations have been maintained on this car. After the diagnostic test was completed, and i left the dealership to return home the brake lights stayed on after my car was parked and the key removed from the ignition. At this time my 2009 lancer is sitting at the dealership, and i was asked if i would like to order the part to replace.

We have issues with the low beam headlights malfunctioning. They would cut off while going down the road. Would stay on when car and lights were turned off and we would have to take the relay out to get them turned off. They would flash on and off while the car was on or off. Replaced numerous relays, returned multifunction switch three times. This caused our son to have a wreck as the low beams lights turned off and a car not seeing him pulled out in front of him. Started a 1 1/2 years ago, there have been numerous other complaints about the headlights turning off and nothing being done. Something needs to be done before another accident occurs or death from accident.

I got recall about lower control arms for my mitsubishi 2009 lancer. It said that it applies to all cars if exposed for long term to snow melt water and anti-freezing agents. It says in the recall that a detached front control arm can result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of crash. My car was exposed to snow melt and anti-freezing agents for two years in south korea, one tear in missouri, and seven years in new york. Oahu dealership refused to help and said that this recall applies to the cars currently located in japan only. I called nj dealership where we bought the car and they said that we should bring the car in immediately and they will help with this safety recall. Currently i live on oahu, hawaii and i don't understand why they refuse to fix the car and ignore this safety recall. Why one dealership said that they will take care of the car and aware of safety recall while other in hawaii where i currently live, refusing to fix it. Please help

The following is a result of a defective transmission fluid dipstick acknowledged by mitsubishi and addressed by a service bulletin. They have not issued a recall of the dipstick. (https://mitsubishitechinfo.Com/data/tech_docs/2010/52005696/html/520056966.Htm) after driving on the highway at normal speeds, 70mph and under, the transmission overheated and a slow down warning appeared. I pulled over, lifted the hood and let it cool down for about 20 minutes; the warning had disappeared. I resumed driving at speeds 45 and under, and while driving up a hill the transmission whined very loudly and i lost so much power that the car began to slow to a stop on the road. I had to pull over to avoid being struck by oncoming traffic. The slow down light was not on, but i did receive engine code P0741. In another incident, i let it cool down on the side of the interstate then took an exit. With no slow down warning, i was attempting to make a left turn when the transmission whined very loudly and the car stopped moving forward. An 18 wheeler was oncoming and was not going to be able to stop. Thankfully, the car was able to make it safely out of the way, but it was close. I have experienced many similar incidents. The transmission has frequently overheated since i've had it when it had only 30,000 miles. The transmission fluid and filters have been regularly changed per the owner's manual. While it has a rebuilt title, there was only exterior damage and no part of the power train was ever damaged. I discovered the service bulletin from research and forums. Many others have experienced this issue, but most just assumed the fluid needed to be changed more than the manual recommended. The defect and the overheating that results is very dangerous as i've recently experienced. It's an original factory defect that is completely unaffected by mileage or wear and tear

I was on the 4th floor of a parking garage in my town and was going up to the top level. As i am about to turn the corner, i realize i am going a bit faster than i thought. So i apply full pressure to the brakes which did not work as fast as they were supposed to. The tow truck man later told me that i was going around 20 to 30 mph at time of impact. When i hit the pillar in front of me, the airbag didn't deploy and my seatbelt did not tighten as they were supposed to. This meant that my whole body snapped forward and impacted collarbone first into the steering wheel. After this incident, my whole left side felt numb and i was left with a swollen collarbone and contusions from the impact.

Rusted crossmember, control arms, braces holding the gas tank. Safety concerns about the rust underneath my car (120k miles california vehicle) rust may have eaten through the metals underneath my car and im scared to drive with these rust problems because they might fail when im on the freeway with the possibility of a bad accident causing my life and other peoples life on the line. I dont drive my car no more than 10 miles anymore due to this rust problem. The picture i provided doesnt look that bad but lifting the car up in the air going underneath will give you the idea of how bad it is. I have owned vehicles that are almost 30 years older than the current car that i have and i had no problem with rust underneath the car and this is actually my first time experiencing this problem and im worried about my safety. I hope this gets taken action and will give me any leads to fix this problem.

I contacted mitusubishi directly, and the representative i spoke with told me that my vehicle was not part of this recall. This is frustrating, as i have the defective blower motor which is clearly marked with the recalled number. I believe mitsubishi missed some cars in their recall. My car was manufactured in june 2008, which makes it an early 2009 model. I would like reimbursement for the new replacement blower motor i had to purchase. I have receipts and the faulty motor.

I could not leave my car to have the safety recall fixed due to being active duty in the air force and being a single parent, i can not go without a vehicle. I was driving northbound on the ca is-15 north at approximately 5:55 pm pst between the exits of 138/wrightwood and the route 395/joshua street exit. I was traveling in the fast lane going about 68-72 mph. I got a "service required" error light flashing, then the "slow down" light came on with a picture of a thermometer. I checked the temperature gauge (which is displayed on the led screen by the speedometer, not the usual independent gauge) and the temperature showed that it was right in the middle, which should be working great. I slowed down to 50 mph as i merged from the #1 (fast) lane to the slow lane by the road shoulder and my engine lost power. Luckily i had enough power to get over to the should before the usual line of semi-trucks blew past me. I checked the coolant, oil, and ctv trans fluid levels, all were at capacity. This is the second time that i had experienced this issue. The first time was this same time last year (august, 2012). I had bought the car used in july 2012. The first time this occurred the dealership (victorville mitsubishi) fixed it under tsb 10-23-005. At that point the car only had 46,000 miles on it. I plan to take the car back into the dealer this saturday, provided i can make it back up the hill today and tomorrow. This is a really serious problem and i hope it becomes an official recall. As i was driving up the i5 going up the grapevine in ca at 65-70mph my vehicle made a beeping noise and dash showed thermometer that said slow down. I slowed down to 60mph and went into the left lane or (slow lane where semi trucks drive). All of a sudden the car started to slow down more and more until a semi truck got extremely close and had to veer into a faster lane because my car was only going 40mph. I found an exit and exited the freeway. I came to a stop, when it was my turn to go, my car would not accelerate. The car was on and it was in drive but would not move. Fortunately a chp vehicle came along and stopped traffic long enough for my brother and 13 year old nephew to push the vehicle off the road. This was the second time this exact incident occurred in this vehicle. The first time i was with my mother and was on the same freeway, luckily that time we were closer to the exit and were able to get safely to the side of the road. Please investigate this issue because it is extremely unsafe to have these vehicles on the road suddenly slow down in front of semi trucks that are not equipped to stop at short distances. *tr

I began having issues with my transmission in august 2012 with this whining noise everytime i accelerated. My "service engine soon" light came on shortly after the noise started. When i took the car to auto zone, they pulled a "failed shift solenoid" code. I had a transmission fluid flush done at around 70k miles with the proper cvt transmission fluid added to the vehicle. When i was traveling the highway for christmas from missouri to georgia, about halfway through the trip i saw this red signal on the dashboard that read "slow down!" with a thermostat above the warning. I read through the manual and google searched the warning and read that it meant that the transmission fluid was overheating. For the rest of the 13-hour drive, anytime i drove over 75 miles an hour for more than 30 minutes the light would come on. I tried to ignore it at one point and this caused my transmission to stop shifting (i have an automatic). I had to stop 4 times between the trip because of this light. I have a power-train warranty on my vehicle for 10 years/100k miles. While in savannah, i had the mitsubishi dealer run a diagnostic in which the service technician indicated there was an internal transmission issue. They were unable to resolve the issue at the time because the dealership was closing. Now back in missouri, the dealership is "unable to replicate the code" and is more bent on making me pay the diagnostic fee. Mitsubishi customer care isn't much help either. I feel like i'm going to be stuck on the side of the road soon. Somebody help! *tr

I have an 09 mitsubishi lancer es sport with the sun and sound package. The amplifier, which is under my drivers side seat, for the sound system started smoking and sparking. I took it to the dealership, who replaced it, and a week ago, while i was driving, it started smoking and sparking again, but stops when you power off the radio, if the power is on in the radio, it continues to smoke and spark. I believe there may be a wiring defect in my car that is causing this to happen and fear that if it continues my car may eventually catch on fire. Dealer will not look at it again unless i pay $120 initial fee. *tr

I was driving highway speed when there was a weird noise and my abs light came on. I had to run an errand and when i got back in the car, my service engine light was on. I had my state emissions test and in turned failed because the service engine light is on. I took the car to the dealership and it was determined that the rear speed sensor malfunctions which has in turn caused my abs light and the abs light caused my service engine. The dealer says that there is nothing wrong with the brakes or abs and no reason to have failed emissions. I'm working to replace the speed sensor. *tr

As im driving down the highway 95 or i4, my car in the odemeter area prompts the car to slow down on the car slows down on the highway until it stops. This is very dangerous as it slows down traffic when diving on the highway. This car then have to cool down for 20 mintues . This car can not drive in traffic for no more than two hours then it slows down and stop. *tr

2009 lancer, clutch went out at under 20,000 miles. I have been reading of many clutch problems in past models, is there a trend here. I have owed 15 cars, half have been manual transmission. I have only had to replace 2 clutches: mitsubishi 3000 gt at 40,000 and the lancer at 18,000. I have a 10 year old jeep wrangler manual that my kids learned to drive on with about 70,000 miles with it's original clutch. *tr

I've had my 09 lancer since july of 2008. I haven't had any problems up until recently. For about the past month now, on four occasions, usually in the morning, when i go to start my car it just wont start. It makes the same sound as if my car was to start, but just doesn't. So i have to wait and keep trying to get it to start. I brought it to the dealership where i purchased it (girard mitsubishi) on 4/1/09 and the mechanic had said he ran it through the computer and couldn't find anything wrong with it. *tr

I was traveling southbound on the florida turnpike, i was on the left hand lane when i looked through the rearview mirror and noticed a vehicle behind doing about 80-90 miles per hour. I merged to the middle lane so that they could continue on. They were recklessly driving and they swerved to my lane, i proceeded to swerve to avoid getting hit and when i tried to hit the brakes they jammed on me. I lost control of the car and hit the right divider with the front of my car, the car proceeded to spin out of control and every angle of the car was hit with divider and then i ended up in the middle lane facing traffic. Only 3 out of 8 airbags deployed. The main airbag which was the steering wheel airbag and knee airbags did not deploy. The car is claimed to be a total loss by geico. *tr

I bought a 2009 mitsubishi lancer in may of '08. I traded in my '04 lancer at that time with 145,000kms. All original parts except for brakes. I moved to bc in aug '08 from alberta where i had bought my car. *tr i was coming home from christmas in ab on jan.2/09 when the hinge on my drivers side window broke, and my clutch started to slip. I drove my my car an hour and a half to the nearest mitsubishi dealership the next day. The mechanic that day told me that the rear seal had a leak, that oil had been spraying likely through the clutch and that i was lucky to have made it. When a different person called me on monday, he said that when they took it apart, the seal had been factory installed wrong and that's what was causing the oil to leak. However, there was no trace of oil in the clutch and that it was worn. He told me that they will cover the seal and the window, i would have to pay for the clutch. I have driven manual for over 10 years. I have driven to ab and back 4 times in my new car, so 80% of the 30,000kms on it are hwy driven. I got 145,000kms and 4 1/2 yrs on the last lancer i bought, and traded it in with the original clutch. I have talked to mgr's and supervisor's, and they all go back and talk to the mechanic. Saying that i am responsible. No second opinion. Leaving me to cover the cost of a new clutch ($600). I have since found reports that there have been previous problems with clutches on older models. Could there not be problems with new ones too? Especially when 2 other major breaks happened on the same day on my car? Both factory problems. *tr

Mitsubishi lancer es sport 2009. I having a problem with the brake system, i receive a letter of a service recall and i went to make the reparations. The car has present several brake problems with the front calipers, disks and pads. Apparently the car has a defect because the left front caliper makes the pad have a faster wastage than usual and reduces the brake efficiency. I think that this is a very important problem because my life is in risk and other persons life because i can cause an accident.. The car has been repaired by 4 times but still with the same problem, actually the car has 29,157 miles. *tr
