  • Recall 2020216 [Canada]: Structure
Issue: on certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front cross-member (subframe). As a result, a lower control arm could eventually detach from the cross-member. This could cause a loss of vehicle control. Safety risk: a loss of control can create the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: mitsubishi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front cross-member (subframe). If no significant corrosion is found, the dealer will spray a sealing and anti-corrosion coating both inside and on the cross-member. If significant corrosion is found, the dealer will replace the cross-member.

  • Recall 2018588 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the wiper link rod with a countermeasure one, and will replace the wiper motor crank arm with a new one.

  • Recall 2018054 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain vehicles, the sunroof may not have been bonded properly and could separate from the vehicle. This could pose a risk to other road users, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the sunroof glass assembly.

  • Recall 2018052 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the flange of the drive belt automatic tensioner may crack over time due to repetitive high load operations and stress concentration. This could cause the drive belt to detach, leading to battery depletion, which would result in a loss of motive power and a loss of power steering assist. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the auto tensioner with a countermeasure unit.

  • Recall 2016382 [Canada]: Airbag
On certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road salt usage, a mixture of snow, water and road-salt solution may infiltrate between the front impact sensor and the bracket that attaches it to the vehicle. Over time, repeated freezing/thawing cycles could cause a crack to develop in the sensor case allowing water intrusion and short circuit of the sensor. In the event of a crash, this could result in delayed deployment of the driver and passenger front airbags which would increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will inspect the front impact sensor and replace it if it is found to be cracked. An updated designed bracket and cover will also be installed.

  • Recall 2015166 [Canada]: Heater and defroster
On certain vehicles, the blower motor may have been incorrectly manufactured. This could result in a premature failure of the blower motor which could affect the defroster performance resulting in reduced visibility, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace blower motor and the power transistor as needed.

  • Recall 2015165 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
On certain vehicles, the ecu which controls the head lights, tail lights and windshield wipers may have been improperly manufactured. This could cause the voltage in the ecu to become unstable and cause the head lights and/or tail lights to turn off and/or the windshield wipers to become inoperable. This could affect driver visibility and decrease vehicle conspicuity, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace the affected ecu with an updated version.

  • Recall 2014397 [Canada]: Engine
On certain vehicles, the drive belt material may cause abnormal pulley wear. If the vehicle is driven under this condition, the drive belt may become damaged from the worn pulley and detach, affecting electrical charging system and cooling system function and would illuminate the engine warning lamp(s) on the instrument panel. This could result in battery depletion and an overheated engine, resulting in a loss of motive power. Vehicles equipped with a hydraulic power steering system could also experience loss of power steering assist. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the drive belt, and the pulley will be replaced if it is found worn beyond a certain level.

All mitsubishi lancer evolution x models are having problems with the ayc acd pumps, this affects the stability and the handling of the vehicle specially in bad weather conditions because the system doesn't work properly in case of a slippery or bad road. The problem with this pumps begin with it's location because it receives dirt, water, snow and other elements that harm the pump. This should have a recall from mitsubishi because it failed due to a bad design and location of it and it can cause serious problems for drivers specially in bad weather conditions, i will like this concern could be taken in consideration for all of us that are mitsubishi lancer evolution owners, thanks

Hello nhtsa, i have a 2011 mitsubishi lancer ralliart sportback. I have just came across a crack in my exhaust manifold which is causing exhaust fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle if my windows are up. I don't seem to be the only person with this type of car/engine that has a crack in the exhaust manifold. My car is not modified in any way that effects the performance that could cause such a crack to happen. This also appears to be the case for several thousand others. I have brought my vehicle into mitsubishi who has confirmed the crack and has not been able to explain to me why or how this happened. I have been told from my local mitsubishi dealership and the next closest one that they can replace the manifold for $2k. I have contacted mitsubishi usa who has told me the exhaust manifold shouldn't crack and has gotten no other complaints about the issue. There are several thousand posts with photo proof that i am not alone with this issue. Mitsubishi has had a similar issue with their all wheel drive pump where there was a defect of some sort and extended the warranty to 100,000k. I have already had my all wheel drive pump fail and replaced under that warranty. When i spoke with mitsubishi usa a supervisor named jennifer informed me to put in a complaint here. Since mitsubishi has not had any internal testing on the manifold going this route may speed the process up. This issue is quite serious since with the crack - photo attached: it causes carbon monoxide to enter the cabin if the windows are up or if the ac is on and the car is at a stand still. Thank you for your time.

My abs and asc lights have been on for a while. Took it to a mechanic and was told it wasnt a problem, just a faulty electrical system. One day, i was coming off an exit ramp trying to brake so i could turn but my brakes wouldnt engage so i slam on my brake and they locked up and my car slid and crashed into a median. Tired to steer away but it wouldnt turn.

2010 lancer recall number sr-18-003. While driving from texas to california after getting out of the service the sunroof blew out and ripped away at from the car while driving 75 mph and it was in a closed and locked position. Called mitsubishi and they said it was not covered under the recall, even though it is same model and year as those affected and had the same exact issue that was stated in the recall, down to the increased humidity and temperature being the probable culprit for the failure. Had that sunroof hit and killed someone, they would be found liable i'm sure after they tried to explain that to the court that it was not one of the defective parts. They should be forced to cover this failure. I mean really.... What are the chances that the exact same year and model will have this bizarre failure and it not be part of the same "identified" problem by the manufacturer. I will do everything i can to deter anyone from any and all of their products, to include social media boycotting and telling people to beware and stay away from them. I will call the ftc and my states attorney generals office next.

My complaint is on the anti lock brake pump/motor on 2010 mitsubishi lancers. Iv read alot and talked to alot of people about this issue where at anytime the car ends up having a low or bad battery, and or any other issues causing lower then normal voltage. It sends a code to the abs module causing it to fail. Making your abs and engine light come on the dash. With that failure it stores the code and even after the electrical problems are fix you still can not clear the abs/brake code. The only fix to get ride of the lights and to get your abs pump/motor working again is to replace it with a brand new unit costing almost $3,000 dollars to mitsubishi. Hearing from other people with this issue, it is a defect from mitsubishi. This problem occured to me when my car was is park running, but have seen it happen to other people just driving down the road or highway ( in motion & stationary ) also with out this fix you cant not get your vehical passed in a state inspection

My lancer 2010 has only 30,400 original miles, the passenger air bag light is on, the anti lock brake light is on, stability control disabled by the anti lock light on, sometimes the light goes off and turns on when turning sharp right, and sometimes the light comes on with the vehicle not moving. Took the car to a dealer, they said the anti lock brake pump is defective and said it costs $1,800 to replace and said the air bag problem is no longer under warranty in puerto rico all lancer owners that i know have front wheel sensors issues also. The dealer took care of 3 recalls, 1. Eng belts and tensioner, 2. Etacs ecu, 3. Interior blower motor and i never received any recall notices. I have read a lot about these defects and many say that the passenger seat belt and air bag will turn the anti lock brake light on if there is a defect present. And many say that mitsubishi refuses to admit there is a problem with all these issues.

I have seen a few cars with the same color and with the same problem in the same places, and this happen only in white cars.

All electrical shuts off when car turns on. "check!" and "service engine!" notifications appear in dash, but disappear within seconds. Car can be idle or moving while electrical panel shuts off. Brought car to mitsubishi for diagnosis, showed them a video of the dash and headlights turning off as if car is stalling, while rpms do not reach zero. They were unable to diagnose problem and said i will likely pay a lot of money to have it looked into and fixed, because they will have to trouble shoot on my dollar. This is very dangerous to drive in the dark because headlamps shut completely off while car is having seizure. Radio also turns off. *tr

When hitting the volume control/hands free system buttons on the steering wheel they get mixed up. If i hit volume down it triggers the hands free system so i have to hit volume up which works in order to get the volume down button to finally correct itself. It's only just started doing this within the past couple months.

2010 mitsubishi lancer (red) clear coat protection over paint began peeling 3 years ago. Since, the clear coat protection has spread from hood to rooftop, and around windshield. Many discussion threads have additional owners complaining about the same problem.

There was no incident. I received a notice from mitsubishi for the recall. The problem is/was mitsubishi didn't make easy for the consumer to have the recall issue fixed. My dealer (glendale mitsubishi) said they don't do recalls on saturdays. So myself and four other consumers got told they don't do recalls on saturdays. It was done there is also a recall on the transmission, i don't remember for what. I received a letter saying nothing would be done unless something broke. *tr

"4wd system service required" went to the dealership to find that the acd pump have failed. Paid $3,000 because it's not a warranty part. Went online to find out that other customers have experienced the same problem going as far back as 2005. It was a design issue with the acd pump where the seal shrinks during winter allowing debris to enter the acd pump system. During the summer, the seal expand trapping the debris within causing regular failure of the pump every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. Considering they've used the pump since 2005, mitsubishi should know full well the acd pump is no good and should've redesigned it a long time ago. *tr

First incident occurred on 12/6/10 when the car had 11,000 miles on it. Sometimes when pressing the gas pedal, the engine revs up but the car doesn't move. This problem has happened about 25 times since i purchased the vehicle in november 2009. The vehicle issue has been reported to mitsubishi corporate and the vehicle has been taken in to dealership service centers several times. The service centers admit to knowing what the problem is but won't fix it unless the car acts up when they test drive it. Mitsubishi finally agreed to take my car in and provide me with a rental on 1/11/13 do to a recent accident due to the car defect but no promise to fix the problem was made. The problem with this car is widely reported online... While driving home in 100 degree weather with a 3/4 full gas tank there was suddenly a strong fuel smell coming from the front air conditioning vents. The a/c system was in recirculate mode. The smell was so strong that i started to get dizzy. I opened all the windows and pulled over at my first chance to look for a leak. I did not find any leaks in the engine bay or underneath the car. I was almost home so i started the car to proceeded home. While driving i smelled the gas fumes again, this time i turn the a/c system to fresh air and the smell went away. I then turned the system between fresh and recirculate several times and the small was always on the recirculate side. I believe there is something venting into the cabin of the car but i can not find it. This is a serious safety issues as someone could become dizzy or faint from the fumes and crash. *tr

I believe the outer tie rods on 2008-2012 mitsubishi lancer (all models) are defective. I had the pass side fail at 20k miles., which was replaced by dealer. It took over a year of diagnosis, increased noises, and eventual unsafe handling before the second one- drivers side was diagnosed and replaced, this time by an independent shop. I had to personally pay to have the second one replaced because the dealer was unable or unwilling to reproduce and replace after numerous inquiries. I have video of the ball joint upon removal from the idler arm, and the joint is absolutely destroyed. Surprisingly, it does not exhibit much play when mounted, and the ball joint rubber looks ok. It would be very easy for a cursory inspection to come up with nothing, even when the joint is dangerously near failing. Not only do i believe that the part is prone to failure, but i don't think it is safe even when new. I noticed the vehicle had unusual steering since i bought it, that caused it to dog track and drift in and out of lane. I tried a variety of ways to improve, including new tires, sold by dealer, passenger side tie rod replaced. None addressed the steering issues, until i replaced with aftermarket moog outer tie rods after finding the drivers side tie rod defective. I have also inquired with other owners, since i am a member of a lancer forum. Many also seem to have the same problems. Either they have had them replaced under warranty, or the dealer was unable to identify. It is possible that many of these vehicles are on the road today with tie rods that are damaged or destroyed. Considering that the failure of these parts eventually leads to dramatic understeer, and sliding out of the front end, while stability control doesn't engage, this situation could easily cause an accident. Please contact me if you need a video of the defective part in question. Thanks. *tr

After about 6 weeks use, sun visors in my new 2010 mitsubishi lancer malfunction during use, drifting downward obstructing forward vision. Visors were replaced at dealer. After 4 to 6 weeks, again the new visors drift downward when in use, obstructing vision. When driving toward the sun, driver must have one hand holding the visor in position and other hand on steering wheel - dangerous to shift gears or use turn signals. At this point mitsubishi seems uninterested in fixing the problem. *tr
