• Recall 142199 [USA]: A high resistance electrical connection may result in the connection overheating, increasing the risk of a fire with the vehicle on or off.
  Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain 2017-2020 pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles ("phev"). The 12 volt isolator post located behind the driver's seat may develop high resistance.
  fca will conduct a voluntary safety recall on affected vehicles to increase the torque and install a waterproof gasket to the 12v isolator post, the post will also be inspected for signs of contamination. In the event the post is compromised, the 12v isolator post and associated cables will be replaced. Until the final remedy is available, customers should bring their vehicles to dealers for an interim inspection of this joint. The recall remedy is currently under development. Fca us llc will notify owners, and dealers will perform an interim inspection of this joint. If the inspection indicates the joint is compromised, owners will receive a loaner vehicle, until a final remedy is developed. Interim notifications are expected to begin around june 22, 2020. As a result, the connection could build a high-resistance and overheat. Note: this connection is located on the floor behind the driver's seat.   On certain vehicles equipped with the roadside emergency kit containing a kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. • Loss of motive power due to an internal wiring connector short. investigation # RQ24004

  On july 22, 2022, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened investigation pe22-008 regarding complaints alleging a loss of motive power condition potentially due to a transmission malfunction in model years 2019-2021 chrysler pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (phev).  on january 17, 2023, fiat chrysler automobiles (fca) issued safety recall (nhtsa recall 23v-010) involving 2017-2023 model years (my) pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (phev) produced between august 12, 2016, through january 9, 2023. The recall states that the loss of motive power condition in these vehicles is caused by an internal transmission wiring connector that may short circuit, resulting in an unexpected engine shutdown.  an unexpected engine shutdown can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.  in discussions with fca on recall 23v-010, odi confirmed the recall was related to investigation pe22-008.  the remedy for 23v-010 is to update the power inverter module (pim) and/or instrument panel cluster (ipc) software to provide drivers a message stating “stop safely - vehicle will shut off soon” followed by a chime and mil, prndl blinking (on cluster and shifter knob), low soc (state of charge) warning and reduced power mode.  the recall remedy does not replace the defective hardware that was described in recall 23v-010, and the wiring connector short still exists on these vehicles. To date, odi has received 132 reports for the population of vehicles subject to recall 23v-010.  these reports allege a loss of motive power condition that reduces the vehicles speed, followed by dashboard warning lamps displaying messages associated with recall 23v-010.  the presence of these warning lamps and messages indicates the vehicle likely had the recall remedy applied. Follow up discussions with fca confirm their remedy does not prevent a loss of motive power, but instead limits torque to the engine and after an unspecified number of miles or period of time, the engine will shut down.  when this occurs, fca relies on the owner to transport the vehicle to a dealership after they experience a loss of motive power condition, at which time the defective hardware is replaced.  furthermore, the dashboard messages introduced in the recall remedy may cause the driver to pull over in an unsafe location. Pulling over in an unsafe location may expose the occupants to undue harm. • Ignition-off high voltage battery fire (remedy effectiveness of recall 22v-077) investigation # RQ24001

  On february 11, 2022, fiat chrysler automobiles (fca) issued a safety recall (nhtsa recall 22v-077) on all 2017-2018 pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (phev) produced between august 12, 2016 through august 7, 2018. The recall addresses ignition “off’ fires that originate at the high voltage (hv) battery pack assembly. An ignition ‘off’ vehicle fire can result in an increased risk of occupant injury, injury to persons outside the vehicle, and property damage, with little to no warning. At the time of the recall filing the root cause of the vehicle fires was unknown and under investigation by fca and suppliers. A software remedy designed to improve thermal event detectability by monitoring battery diagnostics is currently being installed on subject vehicles as an interim remedy. As of november 23, 2023, the root cause of the battery failure is unknown. From december 2022 through december 2023, nhtsa has received four consumer complaints (voqs) alleging vehicle thermal events involving recalled 2017 and 2018 chrysler pacifica phevs. Additional information collected from complainants confirmed a thermal event originating near or at the hv battery pack after the recall 22v077 remedy had been applied to the vehicle. Follow up meetings with fca and suppliers in november and december 2023 to discuss the ongoing root cause investigation and post-recall remedy incidents indicated a recent increase in hv battery thermal events. Furthermore, a review of nhtsa complaint data indicated the post-recall hv battery thermal event complaint rate now exceeds pre-recall levels.   Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). In a january 17, 2023 letter to nhtsa, fiat chrysler automobiles (fca) submitted recall notice 23v-010 involving a transmission motor wiring defect in 67,118 model year (my) 2017-2023 chrysler pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (phevs) manufactured from august 12, 2016 through january 9, 2023. Fca determined that an internal transmission connector short could result in an unexpected engine shutdown under certain conditions. Follow up correspondence with fca confirmed this defect results in an electric motor position trouble code that was the basis for opening pe22008, therefore nhtsa is closing this investigation. The 23v-010 recall remedy is a software update to address the hardware failure associated with pe22008. When a hardware failure is detected, the vehicle limits motive power while instructing the driver to pull over to a safe location. Nhtsa is concerned that drivers will pull over to an unsafe location when the warning message associated with the recall remedy displays on the dashboard. Due to the nature of the recall remedy and related reports, nhtsa has opened recall query rq24004 to assess the recall remedy. The reports and failure report summary values included with this closing action are related to allegations of recall 23v-010 remedy inadequacy. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. This is the third and fourth time we have had this issue with our van. The previous two times were on may 25, 2019 and june 4, 2021. In this incident, my wife was driving our van with our two kids and i down northwest highway in arlington heights, il. We were going about 35 miles per hour when several alarms and warnings appeared on the driver’s dashboard including 'service hybrid system', a red wrench with a red lightning bolt through it, the orange engine warning light, and red battery warning icon, and a message appeared saying 'shift vehicle to park'. (see attached photos.) when my wife pressed the accelerator pedal nothing happened. We were able to coast and turn down a side street. We put the vehicle in park, turned it off and we’re able to restart it. We immediately notified the dealership and drove it there. On the way to the dealership, we made a stop. When in a parking lot, my wife pressed the accelerator to drive and the same issue happened with the same warning lights and alarms. Once again, we shifted to park, turned the vehicle off and we’re able to restart it. We drove straight to the dealership, informed them of the repeated issue and left the van with them. The dealership indicated there were over twenty software updates. We were told the exact same thing on june 4th the last time this happened. They have not yet been able to tell us why this has happened or continues to happen. The problem has not been reproduced by the dealership but this is the third time this has happened. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.

We purchased the vehicle new from an out-of-state dealership (ewald chrysler jeep dodge llc in franklin, wi) in november 2019. Since that purchase, we have suffered four (4) failure events in which the vehicle completely loses power while driving, having experienced the first failure event just 10 months after purchase at approximately 15,000 miles. In each instance, the vehicle will, without warning and while in motion, power off and cease to move under its own power, illuminate a check engine light (cel), and display a ‘shift to p to start’ message on the console. In every instance, the complete loss of driveability has required immediate and urgent action to move our vehicle out of lanes of travel and onto the shoulder. In all but one instance, the vehicle fails to restart without significant intervention (e.G., towing to the dealership) and has left our family stranded. To facilitate repairs, we have shared cel event logging, a video, and photos with the below-listed dealerships. To date, the dealership states that they are unsure as to the cause of the failures and can not find any obvious issue requiring repair beyond the P0C0E code that is stored in the vehicle's ecm. We are travelling on the freeway and suddenly the electronic stability control kept on flashing. This just happened two days ago and until now we have this message in the car. Also about a year ago we are driving on the freeway and suddenly the car stopped and could not start. This problem kept on happening.

Car started and the shifting knob got stuck in nuetral this isn't the the first time this has happened . No mater what i tried it wouldn't budge had to the dealer twice about it they said they needed to order a part. They are in northeast ohio right now i am 200 miles from home on a sunday . And hope a local dealer has the part this van has been a disappointment to say the least.

I was driving about 45mph, slowed up to a green traffic light, turned right and accelerated. The car lost power for about 5 seconds, then came back on after i had pulled to the side. We brought it in for service, but chrysler could not duplicate or diagnose the issue. Then, twice, my wife was stopped at a stop sign or traffic light. She got a green left arrow, accelerated into her turn, and the car lost power, then resumed after about 3-5 seconds each time. After her second occurrence, my wife drove it straight to the dealership, got the service advisor to drive the vehicle with her, he turned right into another dealership, and the car lost power for 3 seconds. Again, chrysler was unable to diagnose and repair the problem.

The van stalled and when my wife pressed the accelerator, nothing happened. She was able to coast down the exit ramp and pull over to the shoulder. The van was out in park, shut off and we were able to restart it. The orange engine warning light remained on. We immediately drove to the dealership. They ran a diagnostic test and said no issues came up but there were twenty some software updates. The issue has not been reproduced by the dealer but we have had it happen two times. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.

I have small grandchildren who play in the driveway area occasionally and i purchased a vehicle with parking collision warning features as an essential safety feature. The front center collision warning stopped working and when taken to the dealer twice they cannot confirm the defect because they test by walking in front of the car from the side. This activates sensors on the side but cannot identify a problem with the front sensor. They also drive the vehicle into a service bay which also activates the side sensors and does not detect the problem with the front sensor. We will try a third time with the dealer to have the problem addressed, but my concern is that current service guidelines for assessing function of the system are inadequate and should be addressed by appropriate training. I have no safe way of evaluating whether this problem effects the collision warning system.

After stopping at a stop sign, i turned right to go with traffic, it seemed as though the transmission quit responding at all for several seconds. Fortunately, i was turning to the right. Scary.

Backup camera does not show after the driver shifts out of reverse.
