• Recall 132022 [USA]: If the tie rod loosens, it may disconnect from the steering knuckle, causing a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Volvo trucks north america (volvo) is recalling certain 2016 volvo vnl and vnm trucks equipped with certain dana spicer d-series and e-series steer axles. The castellated nut on the steer axles may not be properly torqued, allowing the tie rod to loosen.
  volvo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the torque of the castellated nut and tie rod, tightening it as necessary. If the tie rod stud and knuckle on units cannot be sufficiently torqued, the dealer will replace the knuckle and tie rod end assembly, free of charge. The recall began on october 17, 2017. • Recall 110750 [USA]: Failure of the ball joint may cause separation of the socket and a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Volvo trucks north america (volvo) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 vt trucks manufactured from april 9, 2008, through september 24, 2009, and certain 2016 model vnl and vnm trucks manufactured from january 2, 2015, through to november 6, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with usk non-greasable drag links that may experience corrosion of the ball joints due to the seals being compromised, possibly resulting in accelerated wear and failure of the ball joint.

• Recall 119344 [USA]: Separation of the steering shaft will result in complete loss of steering which may lead to a vehicle crash.
  Volvo trucks north america (volvo) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 vnl, vnx, and vnm trucks manufactured from may 11, 2015, through april 18, 2016. The trucks may have been manufactured without a roll pin on the steering shafts. If the roll pin is missing, the lower steering shaft may disconnect from the junction block. Also, the bolt connecting the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft may not have been properly tightened. Either condition can lead to separation of the steering shaft.
  volvo is strongly recommending that the affected vehicles not be driven until the interim remedy is applied. An interim notice was sent to volvo owners on march 16, 2016, and an interim repair is available now. A second notice was mailed on may 13, 2016. The final remedy is now available. Both remedies are free of charge. Owners may contact volvo customer service at 1-877-800-4945 opt #1. Volvo's recall numbers for this campaign are rvxx1602 and rvxx1603. This recall supersedes safety recall 15v-786.

• Recall 109697 [USA]: If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there could be an increased risk of a fire.
  Volvo trucks north america (volvo) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 vnm trucks manufactured march 21, 2011, to april 30, 2015. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.
  volvo will notify owners, and dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow. In addition, the electronic control module (ecm) will be reprogrammed with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. • Recall 2016077 [Canada]: Steering
  On certain vehicles manufactured with a 2-piece steering shaft, the lower or upper steering shaft may disconnect from the coupler. Separation would result in complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: as an interim measure, dealers will drill a hole through the steering shaft and install a roll pin. When parts become available, dealers will replace the 2-piece steering shaft with a one piece shaft. Note: this recall supersedes recall 2015-561. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall will require re-inspection and potential repair.

• Recall 2016076 [Canada]: Steering
  On certain vehicles, a defect in the ball joint seals on the drag link could allow corrosion to form in the joint, leading to accelerated wear. This could result in ball joint failure, potentially resulting in a loss of steering control which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the drag link on affected vehicles. Note: this is an expansion of recall 2015-466.

• Recall 2015561 [Canada]: Steering
  On certain vehicles manufactured with a 2-piece steering shaft, the bolt torque on the joint that couples the upper and lower steering shaft could be lower than specification. This could cause the bolt to loosen, which may result in separation of the two shafts. Separation of the two shafts would result in complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: instructions will be sent to owners advising them to tighten the bolt as an interim measure. Dealers will inspect the steering shaft, and affect repairs as necessary.   During a review of volvo trucks (volvo) 2016, 4th quarter ewr field report submissions, odi discovered, multiple communications that had not been submitted to the agency under cfr 579.5 ewr reporting requirements.Also, during a review of the nova lfs transit bus (a subsidiary of the volvo group) recall 17v-323 odi became concerned volvo may not have acted with appropriate speed in making a defect determination and filing the recall with the agency.Based on a review of these issues with volvo, their compliance office agreed to conduct an internal audit of all required reporting and found the following:1.Various forms of communications including, service bulletins, tech tips, case base reasoning reports and other data were not submitted.2.Reporting of some death and injury reports (d&i) had been overlooked and not submittedthis investigation will examine whether volvo acted in conformance with its responsibilities under the safety act.
