Chevrolet Silverado 5500hd 2019

• Recall 141822 [USA]: A short-circuit may damage the engine components and increase the risk of fire.
  General motors llc (gm) is recalling certain 2019 chevrolet silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 vehicles and 2017-2019 chevrolet silverado 2500 and 3500 vehicles and gmc sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with duramax 6.6 liter diesel engines and an optional engine-block heater. The engine block heater cord or the terminals that connect the heater cord to the block heater may short circuit and fail.
  gm will contact owners, dealers will replace the engine block heater, free of charge. Additionally, in chevrolet silverado 2500 and 3500 vehicles, dealers will install a new rerouted heater cord.   Issue: this recall affects certain trucks equipped with optional 18", 20", or 22" wheels and tires. The spare tire has a smaller diameter than the tires on the truck. As a result, the antilock brake system (abs) may not work properly on certain road surfaces when the spare tire is installed on a rear wheel position. This could lead to an increase in stopping distance or a loss of control. Safety risk: reduced braking or a loss of control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: general motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your truck to a dealer to replace the spare tire and wheel. The dealer will also apply a new spare tire information label over the existing tire label. You will be provided an owner's manual insert that says which spare tire should be used with the wheels and tires on your truck.

This problem affects tri-fold tonneau covers that were factory ordered or sold as an accessory. Note: this recall replaces transport canada recall 2019-205. Trucks that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety risk: a tonneau cover that separates from a moving vehicle could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people. Corrective actions: general motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the tonneau cover rails and clamps. They will also add a tether to prevent the tonneau cover from detaching. For trucks repaired under recall 2019-205, the dealer will confirm that the previous repair was performed correctly. Note: until the recall repairs are completed, you can prevent the chance of the tonneau cover detaching by removing it from your truck and storing it.

• Recall 2020034 [Canada]: Brakes
  Issue: certain trucks that were repaired under recall 2019-630 (gm #n192268090) received a software update that has an error. As a result, a second repair is required. The software error can cause the following symptoms: if the truck is started remotely using the onstar mobile app or if an operator enters the truck and waits five or more minutes before starting it, the electronic brake assist could be disabled. This would also cause the esc (electronic stability control), abs (antilock brake system) and brake warning lights to turn on. Safety risk: if the electronic brake assist is disabled, there would be a longer brake pedal travel. This could cause reduced braking and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: general motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the electronic brake control module with the correct software.

  Issue: on certain trucks, the nut that attaches the positive battery cable to the alternator could loosen. This could affect the electrical connection, resulting in an engine stall and/or arcing. The contact owns a 2019 chevrolet silverado 5500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled. The failure recurred on several occasions with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7.

This truck is being used in a box truck application with standard 8' wide box, 16' long. The side mirrors that come on the 2019 silverado 5500hd do not extend out far enough to see safely along the side of the standard 8' box. It is very hard to see traffic on either side and extremely difficult to back up safely. I nor the dealership has been able to get any help with this safety issue from chevrolet for over a year now. I have been told by a dot officer that i must get the mirrors to extend out far enough to clear the box in my rear view. I feel chevrolet should make this a recall issue for the safety of every 5500/6500 truck used with a standard 8' box application. My dealership said chevrolet put the exact same mirrors on the 2020 model as well. Please help!
