• Recall 119348 [USA]: Separation of the steering shaft will result in complete loss of steering which may lead to a vehicle crash.
  Volvo trucks north america (volvo) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 vnl, vnx, and vnm trucks manufactured from may 11, 2015, through april 18, 2016. The trucks may have been manufactured without a roll pin on the steering shafts. If the roll pin is missing, the lower steering shaft may disconnect from the junction block. Also, the bolt connecting the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft may not have been properly tightened. Either condition can lead to separation of the steering shaft.
  volvo is strongly recommending that the affected vehicles not be driven until the interim remedy is applied. An interim notice was sent to volvo owners on march 16, 2016, and an interim repair is available now. A second notice was mailed on may 13, 2016. The final remedy is now available. • Recall 2020306 [Canada]: Suspension
  Issue: on certain trucks, the gross axle weight rating (gawr) for rear drive axles exceeds the load rating of the wheel hubs. This could cause the hubs to fail prematurely. If this happens, a wheel could separate from the truck. Safety risk: a wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from a vehicle could also create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people. Corrective actions: volvo will notify owners by mail and provide them with a new compliance label that has a lower gawr.

  On certain trucks built with a cummins x15 or isx15 engine equipped with nylon fuel lines and a banjo bolt on the fuel pump, a blockage in the fuel cooling system may cause a fuel line to burst. This could result in a significant fuel leak onto the roadway, which would create a road hazard for other motorists. Additionally, this condition could also cause an engine stall without warning, without the ability to restart the engine.   On certain vehicles, the front hubs do not support the gross axle weight rating of the front axle. Specifically, 5,987 kg (13,200 lbs.) rated front hubs were used on trucks requiring a 6,622 kg (14,600 lbs.) rated front axle. If the axle load exceeds the maximum weight capacity of the hub, there is an increased risk of hub and bearing failure, which could cause a complete separation of the wheel(s) and a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the front hub assemblies with hub assemblies rated for 6,622 kg (14,600 lbs). Note: if damage occurs due to overloading, the abs malfunction light may illuminate as the distance between the abs tone ring and the sensor increases (i.E. Sensor loses contact with the tone ring).

  On certain vehicles, the engine control module (ecm) may develop an internal electrical short circuit that could blow a fuse in the ecm's electrical supply circuit.   On certain vehicles manufactured with a 2-piece steering shaft, the lower or upper steering shaft may disconnect from the coupler. Separation would result in complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: as an interim measure, dealers will drill a hole through the steering shaft and install a roll pin. When parts become available, dealers will replace the 2-piece steering shaft with a one piece shaft. Note: this recall supersedes recall 2015-561.   During a review of volvo trucks (volvo) 2016, 4th quarter ewr field report submissions, odi discovered, multiple communications that had not been submitted to the agency under cfr 579.5 ewr reporting requirements.Also, during a review of the nova lfs transit bus (a subsidiary of the volvo group) recall 17v-323 odi became concerned volvo may not have acted with appropriate speed in making a defect determination and filing the recall with the agency.Based on a review of these issues with volvo, their compliance office agreed to conduct an internal audit of all required reporting and found the following:1.Various forms of communications including, service bulletins, tech tips, case base reasoning reports and other data were not submitted.2.Reporting of some death and injury reports (d&i) had been overlooked and not submittedthis investigation will examine whether volvo acted in conformance with its responsibilities under the safety act.
