  • Recall 2021723 [Canada]: Accessories
Issue: this recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at toyota or lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. Note: this recall only affects the following block heater/cord part numbers: C014003034 pk5a408j09 pU14000904 C014003151 pk5a408j13 pU14000905 C014000885 pk5a489j11 pU14000907 C014000888 pk5a489j22 pU14000909 C014000907 pk5a410h00 pU14000911 C014100904 pU14000900 pU14000913 C014100907 pU14000901 pU14003571 C014100911 pU14000902 pk5a408j05 pU14000903 safety risk: engine block heater wiring that overheats or melts could create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: toyota recommends that you should stop using the engine block heater immediately. Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to disable the engine block heater. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

  • Recall 2021718 [Canada]: Steering
Issue: on certain vehicles, a defect in the steering gear assembly could cause it to leak power steering fluid. If this happens, there could be a loss of power steering assist. Note: for 2007-2020 models, this recall only affects 41 vehicles that had a replacement steering gear installed in 2021. Safety risk: a loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace power steering gear assembly.

  • Recall 2015493 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, inconsistent application of grease during the manufacturing process could cause the driver's side power window master switch to stick or become inoperative due to electrical contact point wear. This could cause debris to accumulate between the contact points, potentially resulting in an electrical short circuit. If a short circuit occurs, the switch assembly may overheat, produce smoke, melt and/or potentially lead to a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect the driver's power window master switch and apply a specialized grease that inhibits heat build-up, or replace the power window master switch circuit board, as necessary. Note: this is an expansion of recall 2012-338.

  • Recall 2013353 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain vehicles equipped with an optional tonneau cover where the front-most panel can be opened with the vehicle ignition key, the lock cylinder could bind. If the lock cylinder were to bind in the open position, the panel may not remain closed and the tonneau cover assembly could separate from the vehicle while it is being driven. This could potentially result in property damage and pose a hazard to other road users. Correction: dealers will affect repairs when service parts become available. In the interim, the panel release mechanism will be disabled or the tonneau cover removed, at the owner's choice.

  • Recall 2011170 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, the propeller shaft slip yoke may fail. This could allow the propeller shaft to separate (at the joint) and contact the road surface, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash. In addition, propeller shaft separation would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Either condition could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the propeller shaft assembly.

At about 2,000 miles ago the transmission started shaking and rumbling mainly when it was in 5th gear. The diagnosis of the problem is that the transmission is going bad and will need replaced for $3,000. The truck only have 90k on it, and i cannot afford to have it replaced. At just over 90k on the truck the transmission should not already be going out. *tr

The lens cover on vehicle headlights are not clear after several years of use, they are becoming fogged over because they are made out of plastic and the sand from other vehicles going down the road sandblast them. This causes the headlight to not project the light down the road causing the vehicle to out drive the headlights. This can cause vehicle accidents and pedestrian involved accidents. They used to be made from glass and i would like to know why this is not a safety issue that is being addressed. Thank you.

I put vehicle in park and got out to close a gate on my farm property. When i realized the vehicle started rolling backwards, i tried to get back in to stop it. The door knocked me down and pick up almost ran over me. I did a backwards summersalt to get out of the way of rolling pickup. When i was finally able to get up and get to pick up, it had slowed due to the jack knifing of the bale buggy i was towing. Plastic and rubber in the shifter had to be pushed back inside shifter case before i could put back in park position. Later that same day, i put in park in parking lot and it jumped into reverse again. Luckily i was still in vehicle. I believe the problem is in the shifter console but actual problem is unknown. This has happened a total of 4 times. Twice i was out of vehicle. Twice i was still in drivers seat. Only one time did this problem result in injury.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving and depressing the brake pedal, it traveled all the way to the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle took longer to come to a complete stop. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to mike calvert toyota (2333 s loop w, houston, tx 77054, (713) 558-8100) where it was determined that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,500. The vin was unknown.

NoNoY NoneNone20191015

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal whining noise coming from the steering wheel. After a few moments, the steering seized without warning. The contact managed to drive to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering pump and belt failed and needed to be replaced. The pump and belt were replaced; however, the rack and pinion needed to be repaired by a dealer. The vehicle was towed to peoria toyota (7401 n allen rd, peoria, il 61614, (309)-354-3894) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that no warranties were available and the tsb had expired. The manufacturer provided case number: 1910213072. The contact referenced tsb nhtsa id number: 10134363. The failure mileage was approximately 83,694.

I was finished doing my oil change and noticed my rack and pinion boot had an oil leak on the passenger side, i wiped it off and it seems like a small leak for now. The truck on has 73.2k miles on it and it's completely stock, no modifications at all. It's a daily driver and is strictly street driven, no off roading. The rack and pinion shouldn't leak at all with this low mileage and being stock.

Under bulletin pol17-02, my truck falls under the program 10 years and 150,000 miles. I contacted the dealer and they advise my truck isn't covered. I had the problems that was indicated under the warranty enhancement program. I had the truck repaired and i am looking for a reimbursement consideration

NoNoN NoneNone20190323

The secondary air injection pumps are defective. The vehicle shutdown and reduced speed dramatically while in operation. I was driving 55 mph and the engine suddenly lost power.

NoNoN NoneNone20181231

Check engine light came on and i ask was it a recall on the air injection and secondary air pumps needs to be replaced. Maintence person said it should have showed up on his computer at the shop. I was driving when that check engine light came on and air switching valves.

I am very concerned about a noise in the front end of the truck (front differential and shaft) while the car is running still on cold and at a speed lower than 50mph. I do not know if it could lead me to have a car accident into the city. I have seen many other people with the same complain with absolutely new tundras. I wonder if it is about time for toyota tundra put hands on it and fix this old problem.

NoNoN NoneNone20180920

The air pump was failed at traffic lights around 22,000 miles. The vehicle was moved at low speed 10mph to dealer. It was fixed. Right now at 27,300 mile tower cam seal was leaked and oil was dripped on exhaust with smell and smoked in cold days. It is very scary danger. I do not feel safe about my truck. I did call toyota corporate for recall, but they denied! There is no way that the cam tower seal is leaked but it is starting dripping more now. I brought the car to dealer and the service advisor told me to call them again. Toyota corporate keep denying!! I urged toyota company immediately take care of their fail product. It may get fire because the oil dripping on the exhaust, passenger side. Please seriously take care of the problem.

NoNoN NoneNone20180829

The vehicle exhibits an intermittent rubbing or metal-on-metal grinding noise from the rear wheels when making turns. Inspection revealed that the rear brake disks are rubbing on the metal brake disk shield during lateral loading experienced in turns. The problem has gotten more frequent and more pronounced over the past 12-18 months and 10-15k miles. Toyota believes the cause is failed rear axle bearings. The vehicle has about 72k miles and has always been serviced regularly and at a toyota dealership. Toyota has a technical service bulletin (t-sb-0013-13) on the issue but they claim this is normal wear and will not warranty the problem. In my opinion this is a serious defect of a major drive train system and not normal wear.

NoNoN NoneNone20180701

Rack and pinion failed, making it very difficult to steer while i was driving. Fortunately i was in a residential neighborhood and was driving slow.

NoNoN NoneNone20180614

Vehicle has developed a cam tower leak due to improper sealing of mating surfaces during engine assembly causing oil to leak onto exhaust manifolds causing a potential for engine compartment fire according to servicing dealer. Vehicle has less the 45,000 miles and has had regular service by authorized dealer. Dealer representative states that if problem persists vehicle will not pass state mandated safety inspection. Oil burning can be smelled when exiting the vehicle.Costs to repair are quoted at $3296 plus taxes.

NoNoN NoneNone20180513

The steering is very difficult at times and feels like something is binding. There is no steering wheel return. No fluids are leaking and the fluid level in the power steering reseviour is normal. This happens when the vehicle is moving and turning. Going down a straight road binding can be felt when you move from side to side in your lane by moving the steering wheel left or right.

2011 toyota tundra rear leaf spring.Passenger side leaf spring broke and the piece fell off the truck while i was driving. Car behind me flagged me down to let me know that it fell off the truck and they almost ran it over. I was driving at the time of the incident. I still have the piece of the leaf spring.

Rear passenger leaf springs failing at 60k miles. I notice the when looking at the truck, it sits unevenly. I've noticed the ride hasn't seemed as stable/sturdy and then noticed the issue with the suspension, i'm assuming its leaf spring related as there are numerous issues mentioned on various forums but i've not noticed a recall issued yet.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated and stalled. All the instrument panel warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to an unknown local toyota dealer, but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. On another occasion, while reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle failure then reoccurred and was towed back to the independent mechanic. The contact was informed that rodents were getting into the engine while the vehicle was parked, and were chewing through the wiring. As a result, the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 60,000. *tt

The bed of my 2011 tundra is rusting through from the bottom up. The truck has had a topper over the bed since shortly after purchasing brand new and has never spent a night outside of the garage. The rust issue could be a safety hazard as the frame or other components could be compromised in a crash if they are not structurally sound.

While driving to work one morning, my brake pedal went directly to the floor with almost no stopping capability. After finally getting the vehicle to stop, the pedal felt normal. The next day a similar situation occurred. Since the occurrences were inconsistent in timing, situation and driving conditions, it was not easy to replicate. Upon taking it to a local dealership, they had the same difficulty causing it to happen. Although, on their "last" try, it went to the floor. Local dealership could not diagnose the specific issue and called in an engineer from toyota. Ultimately, since they could not isolate one specific failure, they decided that the *main components of brake system should be replaced. *main components include master cylinder, brake booster and abs actuator. As the service technician indicated that they had seen several of these, i began a case with toyota motors usa to try and get a clear understanding whether they thought this to be an issue. After all, this vehicle is marketed as having one of the most robust brake systems in its class. Toyota motors usa indicated in emails that they had no interest in reviewing and told me that as the customer, i had every right to choose another brand if i disagreed with their position. Since brakes are an essential safety system in a vehicle, it should be a primary concern to them in order to evaluate potential failures where the outcome could be far worse.

Late august 2016 the check engine light came on and i took the vehicle to the dealer to have this checked. I learned that i had an issue with the secondary air injection system. The estimated cost of the repair was quoted at $3,360.00. As a long time owner or driver of toyota vehicles of 35 years, i was shocked in that i had never experienced such issues. I purchase toyota because i trust the quality, reliability and design. I understand that toyota has recalled and is covering the cost of the replacement for vehicles 2007-2010. There appears to be an issue with the 2011 models and this should be investigated and the coverage expanded to include this year as well. The new technology was not in place when my car was manufactured. This defect creates unsafe conditions for the driver to navigate busy highways or country roads. I have this truck for hauling on occasion and i am so thankful that i did not have livestock in tow. The dealer reached out to toyota for assistance in the replacement. I believe that the total cost should be covered in that it is a known defect/issue that still was not corrected when my car was manufactured. Cam tower seal problems currently my tundra is having a camshaft tower seals problem/gasket. I thought my truck was going to catch on fire several times with my grand kids inside while driving.'.With it smoking on the passenger side. This is highly unusual for a toyota. I thought it would have stopped by now, but it has not. This has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the truck. In doing my research, which i understand is a big repair job as it requires dismantling part of the engine; this is a major problem with this model year that i currently own (2011). There are also several other model years that it is also happening as well (2011-13), in which again can cause the truck to catch fire, harming or even killing someone. If not completed now or take any action, toyota could lose money. You could even stop lawsuits that will be forthcoming with this issue if someone is harmed or even killed. This is very dangerous!! This is my sixth toyota purchase. The main reasons for me choosing toyota over ford, gm, etc. Are quality and reliability. I would like toyota to fix my issue at no cost to me and maybe recall this error that toyota should be aware of on these model tundra trucks. This honest gesture would bolster my confidence in the reasons i made in purchasing a toyota.

My extended warranty would not cover the repairs stating it was a known toyota problem for my vehicle. The warranty company sent me a toyota service bulletin (t-sb-0160-11). The bulletin clearly states that in some 2007 - 2011 model year tundra vehicles that water intrusion into the air injection pump assembly occurs. The current recall notice is for 2007-2010 tundras. That recall should be extended to cover 2011 tundras since it is a known problem. Attached is the toyota service bulletin and bob tyler's service / repair order.

On 12/17/2016 my daughter and i had a head-on collision. The passenger side airbags deployed fine and prevented my daughter from having any major injuries. My driver's side airbag popped out of the steering wheel but didn't inflate. Due to the airbag not deploying properly i hit my head on the steering wheel. This caused me to be transported by ambulance to the local hospital where i received stitches in my forehead and continue to suffer from a dizziness/headaches - concussion. I have asked my insurer usaa and their contracted inspectors to inspect the driver's airbag without success. Apparently you need to hire your own engineers or inspectors to conduct an inspection. I have tried to locate one in wv without success. Usaa wants to close out the claim and salvage/auction my vehicle. I would like to get an inspection done first. I'm not sure how to proceed on this but wanted to report the incident to prevent others from having to experience this and hopefully save lives if this is a widespread issue. The tundra is a 2011 and the rear driver side wheel has been the issue. I was on a city street about 2am when a loud crash and thundering made driving very hard. The rear wheel had sheared off and was passing me by as i slowed down sparks flying like the fourth of july!! I had been going 25 miles an hour in a residential setting. I had the truck towed to the dealer whom agreed this was an obscure occurrence, to which they warrantied and fixed it. This occurred at 250,000 miles so that seemed like a satisfactory ending! However, at 3500 miles later going 70mph down interstate 20 at 4 am a horrendous crash ( noise) and almost flipping the same tire sheared again passing me by!! I was lucky that i didnt flip! Toyotas explantion... They couldnt/wouldnt provide me one but did fix my problem as the friction sanded down into the rotor and shock absorber hanger!! Not sure if other folks have had this experience?? I did encouter another fellow (my son) whom had the same experience at 250,000 miles on the driver side rear with a toyota tundra 2012 he owned. This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed as to what the root cause is!! I felt like toyota took care of me repair wise but never got a straight answer from them on the cause!! My 2011 toyota tundra while it was being driven the engine light came on. It was driven to a nearby o' reilly's for a code check. The code was P0418 which is the air induction pump which is an emission's code. The truck then went into a limp mode while driving home on a busy city street which meant it would not accelerate over 35 mph. This is a very dangerous situation not having the ability to go any faster due to an emission's code putting the truck into a limp mode. After researching this problem i found out that toyota has extended the warranty for this air injection pump for the 2007-2010 tundra models. Toyota has refused to help cover the cost for this repair even though it is a known problem on tundras. I read that the same faulty air pump which allows moisture to enter is still being used in my 2011 tundra model. This is a $2,200 repair which toyota should cover since it has occurred to their earlier models and mine as well. Not only is this a costly repair, but also a very dangerous situation when your vehicle is unable to accelerate on an emissions problem.

I will have to pay to fix this on top of what i paid for the vehicle. I will warn everyone i can reach to never buy a toyota. Toyota has become a company of subpar customer support and deserves every class action suit they get filed against them. Noise in brakes when going slowly and turning right. Took to my mechanic he let me know this is happening to many 2007-2013 tundra's and there is a service bulletin on it tsB0013-13 however it is not a recall yet so it is not covered by toyota. To repair this problem they had to remove the old bearing assemblies, and replace both rear backing plates & bearings, front & back rotors, front & rear pads, which brought this to a grand total of $1,817.24. My mechanic and the mechanic from the toyota dealer, where i purchased the truck, informed me that if this procedure was not done the brakes would eventually go out at some point. This is definitely a huge safety risk and i am not sure why this is not considered a recall yet. I urge toyota to reconsider this problem and qualify it as a recall.

My vehicle first had its wiring harness destroyed by a rodent of some sort a couple of weeks ago. After sending it to the repair shop and $7000 dollars later, i brought my truck home and everything worked fine. I tried many remedies to discourage the rodents from returning but nothing seems to deter them from the soy based insulation on my trucks wiring harness. I now have to send my truck back for repairs to the same wiring harness ($7000) as before, and also another wiring harness which will probably cost close to the same. How can toyota get away with making insulation out of rodent food when these wires operate the abs braking system? The tundra is kept in our garage and is driven one or two times a week. On christmas day 2014, when i drove the tundra, i noticed a number of unusual lights flashing on the dash, including the check engine light. When i examined the engine, i found a rats nest on top, and i suspected a rodent had damaged the wires. I took the tundra to the local toyota dealer, and the service representative told me that the insulation on the wires of my tundra contains soy which is attractive to rodents. It turns out that 7 wires needed to be overlaid at a cost of $760. It seems to me that putting soy in the insulation around electrical wires is a design flaw that could lead to rodent-caused damage that could lead to safety problems. I did some google research, and it appears that this flaw has been known since at least 2011, and was described in an article in motor age magazine. I do not know if rodent-damaged wires have cause any automobile accidents, but they are causing american consumers a great deal of money. For example, i read the testimony of a 2012 toyota highlander owner who had rodent-caused damage that required $6,400 in repairs.

On sun. 10/11/14, i drove our tundra on the highway when it lost power. The engine raced and rpms increased, but the speed fell and no acceleration was possible. On a hill, speed fell to about 15 mph. I was on my way to pick up my horse and trailer; if i had been towing them, it would have been catastrophic especially given the highway speed traffic. It was still dangerous even without the trailer. I turned on my hazard lights and limped off. "check engine" lit up. Took to dealership the next day, who said check engine code was "P2445" for "secondary air injection system water intrusion" requiring replacement of the air pump assembly, air pump inlet, emission valve set, etc. For $2600 because water invaded the system. The service tech said that this was not a known issue, but my internet search showed that toyota issued a 12-page 2011 technical service bulletin, stating that "the air pump assembly inlet has been updated to prevent water intrusion." toyota has neither recalled the defective inlets nor notified owners. The tsb says only trucks under the 36,000/ 3 year warranty are covered. Tundras are tow vehicles and it is foreseeable how unsafe this is. Because my truck was sold just over 3 years ago, the local dealership at first could not cover it. I contacted toyota headquarters, who referred me back to the local service manager, who then reached southeast regional toyota office, which finally agreed to cover the repair. When this air pump inlet fails, it allows water to enter the air injection system and the system to then fail in the dangerous way that occurred in my case, resulting in a sudden loss of power. I am concerned about this happening to others and that the dealers seem unaware of this tsb and this "known issue." tsb link is here: http://www.Autosafety.Org/sites/default/files/imce_staff_uploads/t-sb-0160-11.Pdf. *tr

After discussion with master mechanic and a service manager i found that this problem was diagnosed it earlier models up to and including 2010 tundra where toyota took care of the repair . But they continued to use this part until late 2011. My truck was delivered in fall of 2010 and had the older style part. They changed the part design and now it prevents moisture to enter the pump and prevents corrosion which caused pump failure. The original part had flared head tubing and no seal the new design has a sealed tube end. Luckily i was able to grab the wheel to keep myself from falling under the vehicle. I have no doubt that my injuries would have been significant had i not grabbed the wheel. I reported this to the dealership last year when this first occurred. The dealer said they did not find a thing wrong. *tr

This safety complaint relates to the "tilt latch mechanisms" of a 2011 toyota tundra's steering wheel, the set of mechanisms used to release/safely secure the steering wheel in place. There were at least two parts among the latching mechanisms, one being plastic & the other being a metal alloy, broke off and into pieces. It was fortunate that the problem was found when i went to lower the steering wheel while cleaning my vehicle. Had the pieces shattered and fallen off while the vehicle was in motion, a fatal accident could have been resulted from loss of steering wheel control. At the time of the finding, the vehicle had 37118 miles. Such safety mechanisms ought to be designed with specifications so that they would last more than two or three times of use. I recall, at least once, seeing the steering wheel dropped with the latch lever hanging down half way without anyone touching it within the first 25000 miles. But my assumption was that a technician might have adjusted the steering wheel and didn't latch it back properly. The technician who was working on my repair had told me that my vehicle would be the second vehicle he had worked on for the same issue. And through online research, i have found that while there are not a high volume of complaint of the same issue, there are owners reporting the exact same issue. As the toyota dealer had told me, their toyota regional service and parts manager had decided to cover for the replacement of the entire steering column and expecting me to pay for the labor cost. Sharing the repairing cost is not as much of a concern as the major concern of safety. As i had mentioned above, the outcome from the failure of latching mechanism is unlimited, and the cost of such incident(s) could be fatal accident and/or would be many times the cost of repairing the vehicle. Therefore, this serious matter should be thoroughly investigated. *tr

On their 5.7 liter engine knocks when you first take off. Sounds like excessive piston slap from the motor being bored out to big during production. I have contacted a toyota dealer and toyota themselves and was told this is normal. With this excessive clearance it will cause the engine to have a shortened life. The way to fix it is to rebuild it or replace the motor. *js

Truck's computer is reading an incorrect perceived alcohol density. Truck has a flex fuel engine and the computer is telling the engine that there is ethanol in the fuel system while there is not. I have never run ethanol in the truck yet the computer is reading that there is a 30-50% alcohol density in the fuel. The problems that have resulted from this are missing while under power and power loss while driving. Have had my truck to multiple dealers over 5 times now. The dealers have continued to re-flash my truck's ecu only to have the problem to come back because the ecu is a learning ecu. Toyota has released a fix for 2012 and 2013 models but not for the 2011 models which is leaving me stranded. I pull a boat frequently and the loss in power has significant negative effects on towing. This problem also causes the engine to run lean resulting in poorer fuel mileage and increased costs for me. I've talked with people at toyota corporate and they have told me that there are no plans to release a fix for the 2011's and that there is basically nothing that i can do. So now i'm stuck with a truck that is reading the fuel wrong and causing the truck to run lean which is surely gradually damaging the engine which i'm sure will result in lots of repairs after the truck is out of warranty. *tr

I have a 2011 tundra sr5 with a loud clicking noise that has been coming from the steering column near the shift lever. While in park, the brake pedal must be pressed in order to shift the truck into gear. When i press the brake pedal, a loud click can be heard from the column shifter. This is the column shift lockout solenoid and is normal. However, recently i can hear the solenoid clicking anytime i depress the brake pedal while i'm in gear. Sometimes it is a click, two clicks and sometimes it is series of rapid clicks. I have taken the truck to the dealer twice. The first time i was told the clicking was normal while in park and that they could not duplicate it while in gear. The second time i took it to the dealer, they "blew out the excess grease" from the shift lock. Their best explanation is that the column shift lock solenoid comes from the factory as a sealed unit and is packed with grease. The 'excess' grease can keep the locking arm from fully retracking or engaging and the solenoid will chatter because it is trying to put it into position. *tr

Engine oil leaked from valve cover area onto exhaust heat shield within 17k miles of owner ship. This oil leak is known as the tundra cam tower leak and spanned model years 2010 to about 2015. Here's a link to a forum discussing it: http://www.Tundratalk.Net/forums/tundra-problems-maintenance-repair-dealer-warranty-issues/140601-cam-tower-oil-leak.Html also a google search will list many more complaints. The degree of the problem varies, from seeping to a leak where oil leaks onto the exhaust heat shield as was the case for me. The vehicle was repaired and toyota did provide me with an extended warranty to address my concerns about vehicle reliability. Attached is a photo, and photos of the repair receipt with privacy information removed. The last three digits of the vin are visible on the receipt so it can be matched to the vin of vehicle.

I got stopped and issued a $187.00 violation by the police in ca as my truck parking, (amber lights) were on during driving in the daytime. This truck is wired so the amber (parking light lens) are on when the engine is running so to the police it is the same as driving with parking lights on which is illegal under ca vc 24800 and most other states. This makes my vehicle illegal to operate as well as a safety issue because people do not know if the vehicle is moving or not (the very reason for parking lights). No country in the world allows amber parking lens to be used as daylight running lights. This is a safety issue and it also makes me libel to get stopped and ticketed every time i drive this vehicle in the daytime. *jb

I was driving my tundra when i heard a loud noise. I then lost my steering ability. It was very difficult to make any turns. When i was able to stop, looked under the vehicle and saw some type of fluid leaking very fast. I opened the hood and saw i have no power steering fluid. I had the car towed to the dealership and they said the power steering seal blew causing me to lose my steering ability. I was also told by the dealership that this has happened to at least 600 other cars. *kb

My 2011 toyota tundra has experienced issues with the internal climate control system from day 1 of purchase. I have discussed this with toyota and have had in for service at least 5 times. The recirculation button (which is electronic, not manual) will automatically switch off while driving every three (3) minutes and allow outside air to flow in. While quite annoying at times, it is especially dangerous when i visit my cabin in julian california in the winter, and the switch to outside air blows in the outside 20 degree f weather, while driving 20 miles down a very dark (no lighting) and very curving road populated by many deer. My attention is focused on the center climate center, and not the road ahead. Toyota has given me many explanations, several which were incorrect, and now they just concede that it's working exactly as designed. Their rehearsed answer is that all cars should only be driven with the outside air coming in to avoid recirculated moisture damage to the interior. This does not work in freezing weather! I've been on the web to the tundra forum, and others voice the same complaint. An air recirculation control which will not stay engaged and allows in extreme cold weather, diesel fumes, etc. Is a safety issue. Toyota has shown me the options within the computer, and there are apparently no options to override this issue. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated. I bought a 2011 toyota tundra crewmax, that was lifted and had different wheels and tires put on by the dealership prior to me purchasing the truck, around october of 2011. I found it to be slightly pulling left so i thought it needed an alignment done so call russel toyota in catonsville and was told to drive for awhile to make sure and its not the roads. At about 2000 mile i call the dealership again and made an appointment to drop off the truck. A week later i dropped off the truck at the dealership for an alignment and metal noise coming from the front driver wheel area and was called back later that day to pick it up and bring it back when the weather was nicer so i picked up the truck. I got back from vacation and dropped off the truck at the dealership for alignment, noise from the front drivers wheel area, oil change. I was told it will take a day or more. I was call back by the dealership 4 days later saying the oil change was done but that the alignment problem was my fault because the company that lifted the truck saw scuff marks on the tires from hitting a curb. My service agent got the company to say they would fix the alignment. 3 days later the service agent from the dealership call me and said he couldn't get in contact with the other company but he did it at the dealership. They told me they could not duplicate the noise. I drove the truck and the alignment was worse than before so i call and was told to bring it back and leave it for a few days. I was concerned that they could not find the noise so i checked the front wheel area of my truck and found that the strut was broken so i kind of figure out it was the broken strut that was making my truck pull that direction and the metal noise was coming from there. Russel toyota and the other company is trying not to take responsibility and put the blame on me and i am the victim. *kb

High idle -cold start, truck starts in morning or when left for a time at 1600-1800 rpm it sounds like its screaming,,stays there for appox 3 minutes then goes to 1300 and 1100 but does not drop down after 5 min ,if vehicles is driven or put in gear ,depending on how long up wait the truck will pull you along by itself, then after 1/4 or half mile idle comes down 750-800 rpm, toyota says its normal can be driven ,i specifically asked the asst service manager,to show me in toyota manual what the cold start idle speed is toyota spec are,he would retrieve info and did not, truck did not have this problem from the start just about 3 months old ,been to dealership 5 times ,they say it fine and normal,no codes, according to internet and other complaints it causes piston slap and engine sounds abnormal. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 1 mph, he noticed a grinding noise from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle would not accelerate and the brake pedal seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure and stated that the anti-slip had activated, caused the throttle to disengage and the brakes to engage, which he stated was a characteristic of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. On a later date while the contact was driving 75 mph in inclement weather, the brakes engaged independently and caused him to crash into a ditch. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40. *tr
