• Recall 144417 [USA]: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4runner, 2003-2006 tundra, 2003-2013 corolla, 2009-2010 corolla matrix, 2004-2005 rav4, 2002-2007 sequoia, 2011-2013 sienna, 2008-2012 scion xb, 2008-2009 lexus is-f, 2007-2012 yaris and lexus es350, 2010-2017 lexus gx460, 2002-2010 lexus sc430, 2006-2012 lexus is250 and is350 and 2010-2015 lexus is250c and is350c vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

• Recall 137555 [USA]: If the billet grille overlay detaches while driving, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Southeast toyota distributors, llc (set) is recalling certain 2015-2018 toyota 4runner vehicles equipped with an accessory billet grille overlay installed by set or provided by set and installed by set dealers. The u-nut that secures the overlay grille may fracture, allowing the billet grille overlay to detach from the vehicle.

• Recall 125721 [USA]: The improper inflation of the passenger air bag may increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
  Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling one 2016 toyota 4runner vehicle manufactured november 1, 2016 and one 2017 lexus gx460 vehicle manufactured november 16, 2016. The affected vehicles are equipped with takata pspi-ld front passenger air bag inflators that may have been manufactured without ignition booster tablets. As a result, in the event of a crash, the air bag may not fully inflate during deployment of the primary stage. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 208, "occupant crash protection."

The load carrying capacity modification label may not reflect the correct added weight of the installed accessories. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 110, "tire selection and rims for passenger cars."

• Recall 2021723 [Canada]: Accessories
  Issue: this recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at toyota or lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. • Recall 2019008 [Canada]: Airbag
  Issue: on certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety risk: if the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective action: owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the passenger-front airbag inflator or airbag module replaced. Note: the canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

• Recall 2017363 [Canada]: Electrical
  On certain vehicles, the electrical power cords of some dealer installed block heaters may have been improperly manufactured, causing the wires to contact each other, resulting in a short circuit. A short circuit could lead to a fire which would increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: for vehicles where the subject block heater was approved for installation, the dealer will replace the block heater assembly with a new one of an improved design. For vehicles where the subject block heater was not approved for installation, dealers will remove the block heater assembly. In the interim, until the remedy can be performed, dealers will cut the plug end from the block heater cord to disable the block heater's operation.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20210917

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). Rear view camera cuts out and screen goes black. Similar to the rav4 complaints.

The door lock actuator on the passenger side door is going out. This is clearly a common problem with this make and year model. Several reviews i have read state that this has been an issue specifically with the front driver and passenger doors. I'm not sure why there has not been a recall on this issue. This is obviously a manufacturer issue vs a owner/user issue. Toyota really needs to consider a recall because this is not a cheap fix.

Driving last week and check engine light along with traction control light came on. Hooked my ob2 scanner to port but came up with no codes. Drove it a few more days and eventually lights went out. Fast forward a week and lights came back on. Same routine with the ob2 but this time the code P2443 came up. Googled it and " secondary air injection system switching valve stuck closed bank 2". Found out there is a huge history with this problem not only with my 4runner but with tacomas, tundras and sequoias. With certain years of tundras and sequioas, toyota has paid for this fix. Why not the 4runners and tacomas??Same problem!! This whole thing is a big sham . It will cost about $2000 plus for this issue to be fixed. Where i come from, this is robbery. Knowingly selling vehicles with a expensive problem and not recalling them to be fixed.

The 2016 4runner trd pro is a limited production model. Toyota source the suspension components from an outside vendor. My right front spring failed, breaking i four places. The car has 41,000 miles and has only been used in normal highway driving -- no off-road. The front spring design is deficient. There is no taper at either end of the coil spring, leaving a knife edge touch the adjacent coil -- right where the spring broke. There are numerous examples of the same problem on the internet. The part was back ordered requiring more than a week to get it, suggesting many others have had the same problem. The left spring will likely fail, and the right will probably fail again. This is a safety issue affecting stability.

No matter how many times the tires are balanced, the steering wheel shakes rather violently at certain speeds. The tires have been balanced and re-balanced (including road-force balanced, etc.). On-line forums indicate that many other toyota owners are experiencing the same issue. Also this week i have lost the ability to steer the vehicle (the steering wheel is locking and binding up). Approximately 2 weeks ago the right front caliper froze up and the vehicle nearly went off the road. Also the rear differential was noisy from the day the vehicle was new. Toyota eventually replaced the rear differential (i believe a bad pinion gear). Shortly after the rear differential was replaced the vehicle started to go in and out of 4-wheel drive on its own, and warning lights and chimes started going off. The dealer then made repairs but this has happened at least once or twice since then and the dealer has repaired it each time. Also in the last year the transmission stopped working leaving me stranded in the middle of a 4-lane road. I eventually was able to get the vehicle to move but then it started to go in and out of 4-wheel drive on it's own again with warnings and chimes going off. Whenever the vehicle starts to go in and out of 4-wheel drive on its own the shifter lever usually starts to freeze up as well (and you may need to use both hands to force the vehicle into gear). The vehicle has also had a strong odor of antifreeze since new coming from the right front corner. The dealer has advised they cannot locate the cause. Also various heat shields have either broken or fallen off since the vehicle was new. Please note that i do not go 4-wheeling with the vehicle and it's meticulously maintained including all service records and receipts.

Locks on doors dont work. Common problem you are aware of (more complaints of this than any other on this vehichle). Cant unlock vehicle or lock it. Severe danger if trapped in car. My wife keeps a brick under the seat to break out in the event of an accident not to mention theives gaining access out in public.

The passenger side curtain air bag partially deployed. When this occurred it blew the door ajar. The a pilar was moved and weather stripping mis lodged. My vehicle was moving approx 15mph at the time.

I am living in korea with the us military. I just received this safety recall notice 1 week ago and move to the usa in 1 month. The local dealer states they need 2-3 months to receive the parts. I will be moved before that date.

I was going straight down a highway when my sunroof suddenly exploded and shattered. I did not see any debris hit it. It was early morning and there were few cars on the road and i was not in a construction zone. There was no evidence of impact to the sunroof or body/roof of the vehicle. The sunroof was bulging outward, as if someone punched it from the inside but i was the only person in the vehicle and had the sunroof shade closed. After investigating, there have been incidents just like this happening with other people's sunroof as well, so this was not just a one random occurrence. There needs to be higher safety standards established for sunroofs in the future. Luckily, in my sudden shock and panic, i did not cause an accident trying to get off the road while pieces of glass were flying off and into the vehicle after i opened the shade to see what happened.

Driving home, on us 1, about 60-65mph, i had to suddenly brake. The vehicle brakes locked up,and yanked me to the right , pulling me off road. I took my foot off and was able to correct and move back onto the pavement. The abs, active handling and brake lights with warning buzzer began. I had no brakes for a few moments, pedal going to the floor, momentarily. Then, the brakes functioned, but lights and warning sounds still activated. I was within a mile of home. I opted to continue at slow speed to the house, where i pulled in and used emergency brake to stop. I have 25000 miles on the vehicle and it's just out of warranty. Rodent chewed main engine wiring harness

The vehicle was traveling approximately 55-60 mph (constant speed w/o acceleration) in 2wd in a 75 mph zone on hwy 29 southbound when the rear tires lost traction (w/o audible skidding) causing the vehicle to veer to the left into the left lane at an angle exceeding 40 degrees. The vehicle brakes weren't used and i removed my foot off of the accelerator during the incident while gently trying to correct the problem. The vehicle did not cause an accident or strike anything and traction was abruptly regained (w/o warning) before hitting the guard rail allowing the vehicle to regain control. The vehicle traction control system failed to activate when needed despite almost going sideways into the guard rail. The vehicle tires failed to operate in manner consistent for an all-terrain tire. The tires exceed 75% tread life with no imperfections found. Upon inspection after the incident and testing on a different road, 30-40% of the tread will remain snow packed even on clear roads due to driving on snow packed roads prior. This particle tread pattern design fails to have enough space between the tread groves to allow snow to clear. This tire should not allowed to be sold as an all-terrain tire and has a design flaw making it clearly unsafe to use in snow. During routine driving, the tires constantly fail to properly provide traction to the point where low speed turning into parking lots becomes a challenge for safe driving. The vehicle's traction control system clearly has a design flaw preventing activation during a scenario in which it is required to operate. The vehicle has (4) toyo open country a/t ii tires size p265/70r17, (10 32nds tread remaining). Outside conditions as follows: temp, 1 degree f, road conditions, clear, flat and no ice or snow accumulation, wind speed, 5-10 mph n to s and was hitting vehicle parallel to its traveling direction, location, north dakota.

While driving from austin, tx to corpus christi, tx and as we were entering the cc-city limits going about 65 mph on ih 37 sb (center lane) with traffic on the right lane, we heard a loud "pop" like a gun shot then we heard glass rattling around overhead. Quickly pulled over to a safe spot to check things out. The sunroof had exploded. Weather was sunny, dry and outside temperature was about 65-degrees. Fortunately, the sunroof and the internal sliding roof was closed otherwise the shattered glass would have severely impacted the driver, the passenger and the ability to control the vehicle at said speed thus causing a major accident/injury. Contacted our insurance company for recourse - action pending. Later, we learned from social media, that sunroof explosions are becoming a common occurrence without remedy from the auto manufacturers. This issue needs to be addressed and corrected immediately by the auto manufacturers to protect the public's safety.

Rear windshield shattered after turning on the rear defroster while driving on the highway (route 200 icc) at approximately 60 mph.

I hit a car that pulled out in front of me on the highway. I was going north bound and they attempted to take a left from a side street to go south bound. I was going 45 miles per hour and the other car was at a dead stop in front of me. I hit them just behind the drivers seat. My vehicle is not driveable, but yet the airbags did not deploy.

The wiring inside of the engine was chewed through by rodents. I drive the vehicle every day and it was serviced two days before. After performing some research, i found out that toyota and other companies use soy based products to make wiring. This apparently attracts rodents as it is basically food for them.The vehicle was parked in front of my home in a marked parking spot. I have parked other (older) vehicles in front of my home for approximately 10 years without this problem. I have only owned my toyota for one year and the wiring was destroyed by rodents to the tune of needing a new wiring harness.

The dealer diagnosed that the inner constant velocity boot leaked oil and needed to be replaced. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The contact was informed that the part was not covered under warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the part was not covered by the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 18,445.

Sunroof "exploded" while driving at low speed on a desolate road. Car was parked at a beach rental for 3 days in the hot sun and this was the first trip, heard a popping noise. Since there were no vehicles within at least 1/2 mile and no buildings within 50 yards did not think this noise was caused by a road hazard. Looked over the car and could not figure out what the noise was. When we arrived back at the house and were sitting on the deck we noticed the sunroof looked strange, a bubble in the center . Further inspection found the sunroof shattered, still in place. Lucky we had the cover drawn closed but even luckier it stayed intact.

Massive fuel leak from the soy-based fuel lines. Allegedly an animal chewed thru them which was attracted by the soy-based product (rather than the petroleum based lines of the past) i have great fear that the incident will repeat itself. Fuel lines sprayed out about 8-10 gallons of fuel during 30 minutes while driving.

Since new, i have documented at least 20 occurrences of lack of acceleration, several times almost resulting in an accident. All occurrences happen from a stopped position, then applying at least half accelerator pedal, the truck will initially accelerate, then pause for several seconds, very scary when crossing traffic or going through an intersection. Happens on turns and when going straight.

Have an intermittent issue with the right front tire locking during breaking. Feels like the you suddenly mashed the break pedal to the floor. Happened on dry pavement while going straight down the road approx 50mph constant break pressure. Has done this at slower speeds going forward and backing up, just seems to drag the rf tire while other three are rotating normally. Have taken to dealer for inspection and they can't figure out what is causing it. Included images of drag marks in shop floor.

Door lock/unlock actuators are going out. Driver's side and now front passenger's side. This appears to be a prevalent issue on line, and nothing has been done. Replacing one costs $550.

Vehicle was parked in my driveway which has a moderate slope. Engine was not running. Despite being in park, the vehicle rolled down the driveway and only stopped when it hit my mailbox at the curb. I complained about the matter to toyota. They inspected the vehicle and concluded "we did not find evidence of a defect with the transmission or shift selector [sic] caused this incident." the vehicle had been sitting there for at least 10 minutes. The parking brake was not set. I did not bump the shift lever or do anything else that could have caused the vehicle to come out of park. I spoke with the toyota engineer who inspected the vehicle and he told me he could not explain what happened. I am concerned there is a safety defect with this vehicle. Obviously, i will always use the parking brake in the future. Attached is toyota's letter to me saying they did not find a defect and my letter in response. Thank you for your assistance.

Throttle control system failure on 2016 toyota 4runner. While driving the vehicle the orange service engine amd trac orange loght illuminated. Once that happen d the throttle body became totally non-responsive. No matter how much i pressed the throttle it was non-responsibilve. I was able to safely pull off the road. I had to restart the vehicle twice, on the second restart but the warning lights remained on but throttle appeared to be functioning normal. The dealership was able to replicate the issue and advised the vehicle was not safe to drive and provided a loaner. The service tech and service advisor explained how rare this is especially on a 12 month old vehicle with under 30k miles on it. They ordered a new throttle body and we'll see if it fixes the issue. Given toyota's recent history with 'sudden accelleration' i thought i should report this just in case.

The tforce fender flares have become extremely loose, and rattle when driving. I am afraid of them flying off on the interstate and causing damage to a following vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the wiring was soy based and was not structurally sound. At 12,000 and 30,000 miles, the wires were prematurely damaged by rodents. The manufacturer provided no solution other than suggesting that the contact replace the wires twice. The dealer (durango toyota, 1200 carbon jct, durango, co 81301, (970) 385-4822) inspected the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

I started the 4runner and noticed that a few of the warning lights were on (abs, brake, & a few others i can't remember). I decided to drive it anyway to run some errands (short distance), and noticed that the transmission was not shifting properly either (not going into eco mode and struggling to reach 40 mph). I decided to pull over into a parking lot and check under the hood. That is when i noticed a squirrel nested by the driver's side firewall. The squirrel also used the insulation from under the hood and along the firewall to make its nest. I took the 4runner to the dealership, and they also pointed out that one of the electric runs was chewed all the way through with some damage on the main harness. I let them keep the 4runner over night to get an estimate on the damage. The initial estimate was for $5,716.30. I decided to let them keep the 4runner until the work was completed. I was informed that the electric harness would take 3 to 5 days to be shipped to the dealership. Then i was notified (6 days later) that the electric harness was not readily available and would take another week before they receive it. I recently received a phone call saying that all the parts were in, but now they would either have to remove the engine or raise the body to install the firewall insulation. So an additional $2,219.66 for that portion of it. Sure my insure picked up the tab less my deductible, but this should not have happened. I dropped the 4runner off march 7, 2017 and was informed that it should be ready around april 5th. Hopefully nothing else is found. I purchased the 4runner brand new on february 4, 2017 (driveway kept). I traded in a 2006 toyota tacoma that i had for 11 years that sat outside for this headache. Maybe i should have kept the tacoma. The 4 runner only had approximately 500 miles on it when this inconvenience happened.

Put the vehicle in h4 mode (4 wheel drive). In a stop position, turn all the way right, or all the way left if you prefer. Accelerate, push on gas pedal. Problem: 1) the car moves in a clunking motion. 2) feels like you are driving with emergency brakes on - but no brakes is on. 3) smells very bad tire burnt smell. 4) if toyota doesn't fix this problem, its gonna cost more money to fix whatever it causes - gear shaft, ect.. Gets grind or damage. Brought it to the dealership and their mechanics says you can't use 4 wheel drive on dry pavement. What? Its a 4 runner! You can drive 4 wheel when you want too. Besides, the problem exist on wet pavement or snow conditions too. How are we suppose to get out of our drive way if this feature doesn't work during snow conditions. Or when you use it, it damages your car - as described above. Dealership mechanic tried this on the new 2017 4 runners that they have there and it has same problem. My 2016 4 runner only has 300 miles. Just bought it two weeks ago 2/17/2017. Bad testing.. This has to be fix. Please recall and make it right. Thanks also - i own a 2004 4runner and it works fine in this senario - doesn't have this problem. But my new 2016 has this problem. Again - bad testing. Please recall and fix this problem toyota. I was driving on the highway and the sunroof spontaneously exploded.

My vehicle was parked in front of my home and when i went out in the morning to take my children to school my vehicle started misfiring all the checks engine lights were lighted up every warning light on my panel lit up. I had my vehicle towed back to the dealer. Come to find out that all my wiring under the hood had been eaten or chewed up by rats. It cost me $500.00 dollars to have it fixed (taped) less than 6 months later it happened again . And less than 3 months after that it happened again! I read somewhere that your vehicles are known to attract rats and that i'm not the only customer to have had this problem. Is there any way you guys are planning to fix this problem any time soon ? It's becoming very expensive for me .

Toyota knowingly uses a soy based wire coating that attracts rodents. Something chewed through the wiring harness making my vehicle shake uncontrollably and act very strange. This is a huge safety concern because what if the damage was only partial and then through normal use like highway driving the wire fully comes apart disrupting any and all safety features

Whenever i go over potholes and bumps my car makes clunking noises and sounds horrible.

Bought a used 2016 4runner. Had it 3 weeks and a rodent chewed the wires on the main wiring harness. Toyota (that i have 2 warranties through) does not cover rodent damage even though the material that they use attracts rodents apparently from my research. I have $3500-$5500 in damage and my car has been at the dealership waiting for repair for 3 weeks now. The insurance company is fighting them on the repair and i am stuck without the vehicle. I do not have that kind of money to repair it myself. Toyota should be responsible for repairing and replacing the wires that they used since it is encouraging the damage! The vehicle was sitting in my carport. I live in the nicer part of a large town.

2016 toyota 4runner with less than 5000 miles every once in a while i have noticed a lack of response to throttle when making a right hand turn. By this i mean no increase in engine rpm's proportional to throttle position. I have shrugged it off as my imagination. Now i have had two occasions where after coming to a stop at a stop sign on a steep incline where when i released the brake pedal and stepped on gas the vehicle rolled back even though i had at least 1/4 throttle applied. Not a good situation if there is a vehicle behind you.

Toyota uses engine wiring that has a soy based coating. This encourages rodents to chew on them. We were camped (parked) and when we tried to drive the car it shuddered and the check engine light was on along with several other indicators. The car was running on five cylinders. We managed to get it to a toyota dealer who told us of bite marks and droppings. In researching this on line we found reports of this happening in toyotas and hondas. We could have been stranded in the desert in 110 degree heat if the damage was enough to disable the engine completely.

The contact found sever rust underneath the seats, the steering wheel, and the seat belt latches. The seat belts did not latch due to the severe rust on more than one occasion. In addition, underneath the seat cushion of the third row seats, the entire seating frameboard was rusted severely. The rust had an unpleasant odor. Reador-dykes toyota of plainview, texas was contacted about the issue and stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, and the contact could continue to be driven. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle and that it was sold "as is". The failure mileage was 25,000.

There is a problem with the windshield, it's easy to crack. I had the vehicle only 6 months and the windshield cracked after a rock hit it. The windshield cracked again after a small pebble hit the windshield when i was headed onto 85 south off of exit 93 in atlanta, georgia.The windshield is too thin or made with cheap materials. Toyota needs to take a look at these windshields. Because it causes a safety problem with the windshield. The windshield is too thin and cracks easily.

Trd pro model front shocks make a clunk below 40 degrees. Toyota t-sb-0054-16 toyota won't look at.

This vehicle is junk. Has no power, excessive vibration, constant ticking, all over the road, cruise control speeds up uncontrollably, sits lopsided, extremely loud, brakes and steering lock up.,lacks heat, poor visibility . All these and more occurr while starting and driving vehicle.

The day after we purchased this 4runner in october 2015 the 4 wheel drive stopped working and when we took it back to the dealer they said that rodents had chewed through the wire housing connected to the drive train. Initially they were not going to warranty the issue but after further aggressive discussion by me it was covered. Apparently toyota uses a soy based spray or coating on the wiring that attracts rodents. The vehicle was operable but the 4wd warning light was flashing and 4wd did not engage. We have also heard from a neighbor with a 2015 4runner that a similar situation happened to them but it affected their whole electrical system and that the vehicle was not operable and had to be towed to the dealer.
