• Recall 155175 [USA]: Corrosion to the secondary latch may cause it to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. if the primary latch is inadvertently released again and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 nissan altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.
  nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an owner?S manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed june 30, 2021. Owners may contact nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: recall 16v-029 remains open for any unremedied 2013-2015 altimas and this recall applies to all vehicles covered by 16v-029 even if those repairs have already been performed.

• Recall 151846 [USA]: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 nissan altima, armada, frontier, kicks, leaf, maxima, murano, nv, nv200, pathfinder, rogue, rogue sport, sentra, titan, titan diesel, versa note and versa sedan vehicles, as well as infiniti q50, q60, qx30 and qx80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 nissan gt-r and taxi and infiniti qx50, qx60, q70, q70l vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 111, "rear visibility."
  nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began november 11, 2019 and all affected vins should be activated. • Recall 2020242 [Canada]: Structure
  Issue: over time, corrosion could cause the secondary hood latch to stick in the open position after it is used. If this happens, and the primary hood latch is released, the hood may open suddenly while driving. Safety risk: a hood that opens suddenly while driving could block the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: nissan will notify owners by mail and provide an update to the owner's manual instruction for how to properly maintain the hood latch. Nissan will instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the hood release lever spring. The dealer will also install a hood latch maintenance warning label.

• Recall 2019459 [Canada]: Visual system
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the rear view camera system does not return to the default setting when the transmission is shifted to reverse. This could cause a reduction in rear visibility if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display. Canadian regulations require that the rear view image returns to its original setting each time the camera is turned on. Safety risk: reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rear view camera.

  Nhtsa is opening this audit query to investigate whether the hertz corporation (hertz) has complied with the requirements of the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act (safety act). The safety act requires, among other things, that a rental company shall not rent a vehicle subject to a safety recall unless the recall remedy has been performed. 49 u.S.C. ? 30120(i).Nhtsa is in receipt of information that indicates hertz rented vehicles to customers without having performed required recall repairs. • Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). • Rear suspension control arm failure investigation # EA19002

  In response to the office of defects investigations (odis) information request (ir) letter dated december 6, 2018, nissan provide an interim response on january 18, 2019, and a final response on february 1, 2019. The majority of the nissan and odi failure reports are from vehicles registered in so called "salt belt" states. No crashes, injuries or fatalities have been confirmed as of this date.Nissans ir response indicated the my 2013 through early 2018 nissan altima shared a common rear lower control arm design. Accordingly odi has expanded the scope of the investigation to include all potentially affected vehicles. Nissan reported implementing a design change in january 2018 to improve the durability of the lower control arm, and also provided an analysis indicating that the design change resulted in a significant (which nissan estimated between 5 to 9 times) improvement to its durability.Nissan acknowledges that a crack may develop in the lower control arm due to stress and loading from normal use of the vehicle, and that road salts commonly used for snow and ice treatment results in corrosion that exacerbates growth and progression of the crack. Once the crack develops, continued use of the vehicle causes the control arm to separate at one of four attachment points that connect it to the vehicle chassis. Nissan determined the current incident rate was 0.003%. Based on testing it conducted as well as observations from field failures, nissan maintains the separation, whether it occurs either statically or while in motion, is readily detectable, that the separated component does not contact the road surface or braking components, and that the vehicle remains controllable and can be safely brought to a stop. Nissan states that due to low incident rate, high detectability, and low risk of adverse vehicle dynamics, it does not believe the subject control arm failure poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.Nonetheless, nissan has indicated its intentions to conduct a non-safety, proactive field action for my 2013 altima in specific states with high salt usage. Launch of the potential action would be in phases, likely beginning in late 2019 in salt belt states with higher incident rates, and would involve replacement of the lower control arms. Components recovered from the field action are expected to be used to study additional remedy options.During the engineering analysis, odi will continue to collect and analyze complaint and field data in its efforts to fully assess the scope and frequency of the alleged defect. Airbag light is on & i had a diagnostic completed. The diagnostic indicated problem with front passenger seat sensor. Nissan has a safety recall on some airbags, however not on my 2018 model.

The brake light switch fails which will not allow me to start vehicle with push start. Already replaced switch once while vehicle under warranty. Now around 60,000 miles it started failing intermittently. I have been stranded numerous times, sometimes in dangerous situations with car not starting. I have been stranded in parking lots in bad neighborhoods and in airport parking lots. There is no alternative to starting the car without engaging the brake, so when this switch fails you have no way to start vehicle. You get no warnings that it has failed or to tell what the problem is. I have spoken with dealer and described what vehicle is doing and they agree that the problem is the brake light switch again.

According to nissan dealership my 2018 nissan altima cvt failed. They were able to determined the failed cvt with a diagnosis code P17F0. I have 73,694 miles on my car and my warranty ended at 60,000 miles. In previous years model of the nissan altima there were recalls on cvt transmissions for the nissan altimas. Nissan stated being that my car is out of warranty the only thing they can do is give me 50% good will because my vin number is different from the other nissan altima that had a failed cvt. I don’t feel that it was good will being that my car did not reach 100,000 miles and i’m already having an issue that has been a problem in the past. I keep up with the maintenance of my vehicle very well and this problem occurred out of the blue. I also spoke with nissan about the current recall on my car being that i have to drive a car around and my hood could possibly fly off at any giving time. Me being a nissan customer with such a dangerous vehicle that nissan continues to have issues with is more good will than they’ve offered. I honestly would not recommend such an unsafe vehicle to anyone who is interested in purchasing a nissan altima. My car is fairly new and i’m having cvt issues. My car literally stopped in the middle of the road and would not accelerate because of a mechanically failing cvt. I highly recommend that nissan recall any vehicles that have cvt issues especially since it’s been a repeating cycle. I hope this doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you

2018 nissan altima 24,864 miles. Forward emergency braking (feb) system keeps turning on and off. Contacted dealership and they said it was a dirty bumper/sensor, clean sensor location and continue to use vehicle. If issue persisted set up appointment with dealership to have looked at. Cleaned front bumper and continued to operate. Feb lamp continued to indicate error and turn itself on and off. Set up appointment of have vehicle inspected. Dealership confirmed that sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. The feb sensor was not covered as warranty expired 18 days before dealership diagnosed problem. Informed them that contacted the dealership prior to the warranty expiration and was told it was a dirty bumper and sensor. Contacted previous owner of vehicle and confirmed that they had reported issue and dealership and informed them to just clean bumper and sensor location. Nissan did not see the feb sensor error as a concern but there were two other factory recalls (hood latch and back up camera) that were safety concerns and recalls for. With feb being faulty, the safety feature is disabled and would not help prevent injury in an emergency braking situation!!!

The contact owns a 2018 nissan altima. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to start the vehicle, but the vehicle would not start. The contact pressed the start button and depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to start-up. After multiple attempts the vehicle eventually started however, the failure recurred several times. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure as a faulty brake sensor. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
