  Fujian wanda automobile glass industry (wanda) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement windshields sold for use in 2014-2018 toyota highlander vehicles. The windshields have an attached wire harness that water may leak into, possibly causing damage to the vehicle's engine control module (ecm).
  wanda will notify owners, and service centers will replace the windshields, and inspect the ecm for damage, having it replaced, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began january 29, 2019. Owners may contact wanda customer service at 1-864-281-2760.

• Recall 117758 [USA]: An unexpected loss of power steering increases the risk of a crash.
  Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 camry, camry hybrid, highlander, and highlander hybrid, and 2014-2015 rav4 vehicles. A component of the electric power steering (eps) electronic control unit (ecu) may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. Over time, this damage may result in failure of the electric power steering system.
  toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the serial number of the eps ecu or steering column assembly. If the number is within the affected range, the eps ecu will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on may 7, 2015. Owners may contact toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

  Issue: this recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at toyota or lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt.   Issue: on certain vehicles, the hook and loop material used to attach the carpet to its underpadding may not be flame resistant. As a result, when it is tested alone, the loop fasteners do not meet the requirements of canadian regulations. Safety risk: as the carpet is always assembled, and the loop fasteners are very small, this problem does not create a safety risk. Corrective action: this is not a recall. The company has made production changes to ensure that all new vehicles meet the requirements of canadian regulations.

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

We were involved in a car accident on 04/29/2021 and the front airbags that are suppose to come out the wheel and dashboard didn't deploy just the rear airbags. Toyota told me the impact wasn't hard enough for them to deploy but as you will see from the pictures attached the whole front end of the car is gone. Repeated cracking of the windshield from even trivial impact from highway rocks/stones. Windshield replaced once by the dealer service station with oem glass at a cost of 1600 dollars out of pocket expense by the owner. Cracked again with another small rock hitting the windshield, directly in the line of sight. Inspected by the same dealer service center, advised to replace again at owners expense as toyota does not cover glass damage. Multiple toyota highlanders and sienna minivans all across the usa have had this issue of windshield cracking in the last few years . Suspect there is a design/manufacturing/ quality control issue. Nhtsa needs to look into this as it affects the safe operation of the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 toyota highlander. The contact stated while approaching a parking spot, when the vehicle accelerated independently and ran over a parking sign. The contact stated she was depressing on the brake pedal but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle to her destination. No police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to local dealer downeast toyota (652 wilson st, brewer, me 04412: (866) 620-9023) and were it's still being serviced. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
