• Recall 97329 [USA]: If the seat belt pre-tensioner detaches from the seat belt assembly, the seat belt pre-tensioner will not perform as designed, increasing the risk of injury in a severe crash.
  Toyota is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 tacoma access cab vehicles manufactured september 14, 2004, through march 29, 2010; and model year 2011 tacoma access cab vehicles manufactured july 1, 2010, through september 7, 2011. If the access doors are repeatedly and forcefully closed, the screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor can loosen over time. If the screws loosen completely, the seat belt pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover could detach from the seat belt retractor.
  toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt assemblies. Based on the inspection, the seat belt assembly will be replaced or new pre-tensioner screws will be installed with thread-locking sealant and a retractor spring cover with stopper ribs to prevent loosening of the screws.   Toyota is recalling certain model year 2008 through 2011 fj cruiser, land cruiser, tacoma, sequoia and tundra vehicles for failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 138, "tire pressure monitoring system (tpms)." when factory-installed wheels and tires were replaced with toyota authorized accessory wheels and lt tires prior to first sale, the tire pressure monitoring systems were not re-calibrated correctly and therefore do not start illuminating the low tire pressure warning telltale at the required minimum activation pressure.

  On certain vehicles, the leaf springs in the rear suspension could fracture due to stress and corrosion. This could result in a fuel leak which, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage.   On certain vehicles, electrical circuitry in the steering wheel assembly may become damaged. As a result, the driver's airbag may not function as intended, causing the instrument panel airbag warning lamp to illuminate. Failure of the driver's airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the spiral cable assembly.

• Recall 2013353 [Canada]: Accessories
  On certain vehicles equipped with an optional tonneau cover where the front-most panel can be opened with the vehicle ignition key, the lock cylinder could bind. If the lock cylinder were to bind in the open position, the panel may not remain closed and the tonneau cover assembly could separate from the vehicle while it is being driven. This could potentially result in property damage and pose a hazard to other road users. Correction: dealers will affect repairs when service parts become available. In the interim, the panel release mechanism will be disabled or the tonneau cover removed, at the owner's choice.

My vehicle failed va inspection due to the horn not working. I have to get the spiral cable replaced per the auto repair shop. This was a recall on tacoma's up to 2009 (recall B1801) but not my year. My year should be part of the recall. I believe this also impacts the airbag deployment from the steering wheel.

Upon inspection to troubleshoot a minor power steering fluid leak, i noticed that the pinion input shaft housing (right side of power steering rack) had excessive rust beyond normal wear and tear. The rest of the rack did not exhibit the same degree of corrosion, suggesting a manufacturing or assembly defect. The condition was inspected by an independent certified mechanic and by toyota technicians. The certified mechanic states that the condition is beyond normal wear but the toyota technician denies that anything but a bolt is corroded.

When searching the internet to see if anyone else had the same problem i found that it was a common occurrence for anyone living in a area (not just in the usa) that is a snow area where salt is used. Toyota considers this a wear item. This should not be considered a wear item when failure can happen at any given second when driving and not allowing the vehicles driver to be in control

Driving down the highway, i felt my steering column get loose. After coming to a stop at the gas station, i tried making sure the column adjuster was tight, and it was. The entire steering wheel/column was still loose, and then fell off into my lap. After that, my tacoma would not start. Radio would not work, and the odometer numbers disappeared. I had to then call a tow truck to get my vehicle home. If i hadn't stopped at at the gas station, it would have fell off as i was driving.

I hooked up my obd2 reader that has abs functionality and it showed no fault codes. This seems to be a common problem and everybody is just guessing what causes the failure. It is the brakes!, the most important safety feature on any car. My truck has been parked and will stay that way until someone (hopefully toyota) figures out what is wrong and why.

I just bought 2011 toyota tacoma. It has little over 51,000 miles. I heard a popping noise. Took it to toyota dealer. They maintenance it. They told me it was passengers side left spring is broke. I took out powertrain warranty. But don't cover that. I seen recall on 2011 toyota tacoma. But mine wasn't in recall. Rear left side leaf spring broke while driving; i brought the vehicle from the u.S into the island of grenada(caribbean) where the spring broke.. Heard this loud flapping under the vehicle ; stopped to investigate and found the middle spring (of 3) broke and was sticking out from the rest; i noticed that the leaf springs were more flat than curved like normal springs the toyota dealer in grenada is telling me i must get a letter from a toyota dealer in the u s for their repair services to act. I cant believe the order said "go to the nearest toyota dealer" and these people who supposed to be dealers are giving me this run around.

On line it says there is a recall on my 2011 tacoma for rear leaf springs breaking. My leaf spring on the drivers side broke driving down the road with no weight in my bed. Toyota tells me my vin doesn't come up on the list. If this is a common problem why isn't my truck covered? I don't overload my truck, in fact i baby it. I've only had it just over one year. I'm really disappointed that they would basically say sorry you're on your own! It's going to cost $800-$1000 dollars i can't afford but have no choice! Are there any other options?

Both rear leaf spring broke. Toyota does not sell the three leaf spring only 4 leaf. I notified toyota and they said there is no recall for the leaf springs on the 2011 tacomas.

The horn in my 2011 toyota tacoma quit working. I went to use it my horn, and it did not work. I've taken my truck to several places to see if it could be fixed. I have been reading where this is a common problem for many toyota owners. Also, the white paint on my car is starting to flake off. The truck isn't even 10 years old and has been maintained. The power steering rack has rusted to the point that it needs to be replaced. Both a local mechanic and my dealer, newark toyota, acknowledge that the steering rack needs to be replaced because it is not safe. Toyota has not issued a recall or an extended warranty for the part; however, the part is backordered by toyota throughout the country for 450 parts. The technician at newark toyota told me it could take months to get the part because toyota can't keep up with the demand. My other option is to have toyota install an after market "retread" . I am frustrated and feel that toyota should be held responsible for the failure of its power steering rack.

The running lights are running too hot burning the headlamp and burning the connecting wires

'takata recall' the steering wheel appears to have a bulge at the airbag seams. Both my personal mechanic and the workers at the toyota dealership have stated this is a defect involving the airbag where the cover has detached from the sensors or a coil. The separation is internal. The vehicle has not been involved in any accidents and was parked(stationary) when the bulge occurred.

When servicing our truck, dealer has found both right and left rear leaf springs broken. There is a recall issued for 690,000 tacoma trucks exactly like mine for the years of 2005 thru 2011 mine is a 2011 also, but they will not include my vin #... As described by toyota dealer and recall notices, this issue "could break , puncture the gas tank and cause a fire " . Dealer says " unsafe condition as if the remaining part of spring breaks the axle will no longer be secured under the vehicle" this truck is used under normal conditions w/no heavy hauling or towing why is it not being recalled ? This is not normal , putting myself and family in harms way ? What changed during production and assembly that my 2011 tacoma was any different than the one behind it or in front of it during production , same model year ? Toyota will not answer that question , only to say " that vin. # is not included in the recall 4th toyota truck in a row dealer serviced every 5k miles. As recommended now this is customer loyalty appreciation. Toyota tells me " no farther appeal process " ? Is this correct ?

Daytime running lights bubbling again after recall and replacement. Noticed it yesterday (8/15/18). The truck has 80,812 miles and the recall notice said warranty only good until 5 years or 70,000 whichever comes first. Seems to me they put new bad ones in when they replaced them under the recall. Not sure exactly when they started bubbling again.

The intermediate steering shaft has caused my steering to all of a sudden go stiff, i am at 97,000 miles and now it has to be replaced. When driving in motion on a curve it was like i lost power steering completely and went into manual worse when having to slow or stop and start again on a corner. This is not safe and not ok when there is on coming traffic etc.

Went to gas station wile filling i check the oil and nothing on the dip stick so when i got home top the oil and added 2 and 3/4 quarts and i still have 1555 to go before next oil change i am a certified v w mechanic and in my 67 years never seen this much oil burn off in any motor so i went on line and found toyota has problems with the pistons they were not made right on the 4 cylinder motors and are fixing some and telling the rest of the owners that this is normal and ok not to worry but if i am burning that much the motor can no longer lube it and fail while driving it that is a very unsafe thing to happen

About a year ago, i noticed my amber "daytime running lights" were becoming discolored, it had the appearance of the bulb becoming hot, melting and discoloring my amber lenses. At that time it was just starting to turn colors. Last week a man at the gas station pointed at my drivers side running light and said i should have that looked at before it burns through or causes a fire. Upon his comment i noticed it had become noticeably worse, to the point i do not feel like the vehicle is safe to drive with the running lights on, you can not turn them off during daytime driving, it is a safety matter. I immediately contacted my toyota dealership service rep in tracy, ca, tracy toyota, he said there was nothing they could do and gave me the toyota corporate office 800 number. Today i talked to two employees who were sympathetic but ultimately said nothing can be done by them and i was told by them a letter was mailed out regarding this defect, the letter confirms it as a known defect and the letter shows toyota has acknowledged it as such. My warranty has since expired. I never received the letter and they refuse to pay to repair for this defect. This problem still exists for 2011 toyota tacomas. I have to pay out of pocket to replace both headlight running light assemblies, i am requesting toyota to reimburse me the cost as i will keep the receipt and ask for the damaged parts. This defect diminishes the safety function of a daytime running light and could cause a fire as well.

Intermediate steering shaft worn out. Very hard to turn and does not recover from turning a corner (acts like manual steering).

My steering wheel has become stiff on and off at regular intervals at any speed. No noise is heard and fluid level and quality is fine. Problem noted at lower steering shaft universal due to needle bearing failure. Water/ rust build up degrading universal joint. Truck has only 48 k on it and i live in philadelphia area. I looked into this on various internet sites and found it to be rather common but no recall or tsb issued to address this serious safety concern.

The inner daytime running light/turn signal lens becomes distorted and bubbled with a brown, scorched residue which obscures and/or diminishes the running light and turn signal functions to on-coming traffic. Additionally, the inner lens is cracked and/or separated. Toyota did offer a warranty extension on this defect so it has been acknowledged as a problem. This warranty extension has since expired although the problem still exists for these vehicles.

My 2011tacoma has broken rear leaf springs. They are located above the axle in danger of pucturing gas tank. Toyota has recalled tacomas from the years 2005-11 for this exact reason. Toyota tells me i don't qualify for the recall, but they can give no reason why i don't qualify.

2011 toyota tacoma excessive corrosion of the brake lines caused a loss of fluid and loss of brakes . This happened on a city street and could have caused an accident . I believe that this was caused by an opening in the front wheel well liners, exposing the pigtail tubing to the elements . This truck has only 65,000 on it and should not have the brake lines fail this soon . The toyota customer service has refused to take any responsibility for this safety issue .

The existing "toyota customer support program zh2 certain 2005 ' 2011 model year tacoma coverage for propeller shaft universal joints" covers replacement of u joints and/or shafts due to excessive vibration and wear. My vehicle, while not covered by the specific vin series, is a 2011 tacoma which has its u joints replaced right now at a toyota dealer. Reason: excessive vibration and wear causing loose and worn out u-joints according to toyota shop in palestine, tx. The cost is approx. $560. The rep at toyota customer experience center was unable to help and only advised to retain repair receipts for future widening of program, if applicable.

My daytime running lights quit working because they got too hot and burned the lens and bulb socket. This caused my front and rear right blinkers to cease working and could have had disastrous results.

2011 toyota tacoma has had a problem with vibrations at speeds greater than 55. Thought it was a tire balance problem but have been through several sets of tires and rebalancing at this point and the problem persists. And, i see that many other people have reported suspension vibration problems with a 2011 toyota tacoma. Toyota must investigate suspension problems with 2011 tacomas and issue a recall and repairs!! This is a major safety issue that toyota must take responsibility for.

Day time running lights are too hot. The bulbs have melted and bubbled the plastic housing. Called toyota and they said it was out of warranty and that a notice was sent out about this issue which i never received. Took my truck to two different dealerships and was never told about any issue. Toyota will not cover any repairs or replacements.

The plastic headlight housing over the daytime running lights is melting / bubbling. The truck has only 40,000 miles. Toyota will not replace or repair under warranty enhancement. Possible fire hazard.

Horn stopped working at approximately 95000 miles. Spoke with technician and was told this problem was possibly related to the airbag.

The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road a couple of times, but did not notice any failures. The contact stated that the failure recurred each time the brake pedal was depressed. The more the brake pedal was depressed, the louder the noise occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the driver side leaf spring was detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the rt 22 toyota dealer (located on 109 us 22 hillside, nj), but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

My headlight assembly lens were distorted and bubbled on both side of the vehicle. Toyota replaced the headlights twice on the right & 1 on the left. Now the one on the right is distorted and bubbled again and toyota refused to replace it because it is outside the 5 years/70,000 mi warranty. This is a potential fire hazard and a defect from the design. Please see attached picture for reference.

Leaf spring has been diagnosed by lia toyota dealership's shop in colonie, ny as being broken. This is the same problem for 2011 toyota tacoma vehicles with other vin numbers, but not mine. The dealership contacted toyota, which denied my vehicle for the recall, so it recommends replacing both leaf springs at my expense ($2400). I feel that toyota should include my vehicle in the recall.

The bulbs in the daytime running lights are melting the lenses.

The running light lens on driver's side is fogged and cracked. Toyota issued a voluntary recall and sent me a letter that they would replace part up to 5 years or 70,000 miles. I have 65,000 miles but my truck is greater than 5 years old, and they would not replace the part after i contacted them. According to my local dealer this will eventually happen to the other side as well.

I have an issue with my steering binding in my 2011 tacoma. I notice that when driving in straight line i have to use more than normal force to adjust the wheel to stay in lane. I also notice it when turning corners, it will be moving and all of a sudden bind up and it takes excessive force to continue through the turn. This seems like a big safety issue and i took it to a shop and had them check the steering fluid. They ended up performing a steering flush. I still had the issue and i found that the lower u-joint in the intermediate shaft was rusty and binding up. I sprayed it with penetrating lube and it has freed up (for now). I will be ordering a new one asap. I do feel that this safety issue should be covered by toyota but at this time they say that it is not.

I started my tacoma in park, with my foot on the brake i put it into reverse, the engine and then started to accelerate very fast, spinning the tires, it was on asphalt with some sand. I pressed down harder on the brake to keep it in place and shifted back to park, at which point the engine rpms went back to idle. When i returned to reverse everything was behaving normally. The truck had been in my heated garage for a week, i drove it 3-4 miles in dry sunny cold weather(32), shut if off for a few minutes before this happened. In the five years i have owned the truck this is the second time something like this happened. The last time was a couple of years ago while in dive it suddenly accelerated. Both cases were quite alarming but fortunately did not result in an accident. The prior incident was reported to toyota and nhtsa.

Driving to work the spare tire under my truck let go and dragged and broke cable holding it then it bounced out from under truck and rolled up beside me in other lane rolled to shoulder and knocked a mail box off post. On a straight away in town light pot holes, told dealer he told me toyota had a recall on same type of spare tire connection but for a different vehicle.

When i bought tacoma in san antonio, brand new in 2011, a few months later the daytime running light (drl) and turn signal lens become distorted, bubbled, and cracked. I did a google search, and it was an extremely common issue with many owners complaints. I told my dealership and it was "normal" and i was required to pay to get it fixed. Earlier this year when i was at mountain states toyota in denver to get the oil change, i inquired about the same issue. The employee told me that it was a very common issue, and that toyota will fix it for free. I was told that a letter was mailed out to every person that owns a 2011 toyota tacoma. However, there was a time limit to get it done and it already already passed. I want to emphasize that i never received a letter from toyota. In addition, my truck has always has electrical issues since i bought the truck. Intermittently, when i drive my truck, every electrical components and lights, including from the instrumental panel would shut down and instantly start back up, and my steering wheel would momentarily lock up. I called toyota headquarter, and the lady i spoke to said that there was a time limit when i could get it fixed, and that it has now expired. And that there was nothing she can do about it. I only want toyota to fix this issue free of charge, because i never received that letter they told me they sent out, and i do not know why they put a time limit on it. If toyota refuses to get it fixed, i want to put toyota on notice that i want to initiate arbitration with toyota. Many toyotas were recalled because of the airbags but i don't understand why my truck was not. Last year my horn started to act up and someone at the toyota repair center commented that it may be due to the airbags. Just to look at it there is a charge of over $100.00 to repair it would cost me over $200.00 now my horn works when when i push the panic button but not in the steering column. I thought i read that there were other vehicles in the same year that were recalled.

I first noticed that the steering on my 2011 tacoma is very often extremely stiff turning in either direction last year. I brought it in to the dealer to check it out. Was told: "lower shaft starting to get stiff". Was quoted a replacement/repair cost around $550. Could not afford that at the time. This problem had been intermittent but now happens nearly every time i use the vehicle. This is a safety issue that could lead to an accident. Looks like i will have to pay toyota to fix this. My research indicates that the problem is with the "steering intermediate shaft number 2". It seems this part is either defective or poorly designed as there are numerous reports about this issue on many automotive websites which specifically cite this vehicle for a range of years from 2005 on. There is no protection again rust at all on this part. That makes no sense. My truck is 6years and a half old and the steering is jammed. I contacted toyota and they said it' not under warranty. This is a major security failure and it should have a security recall on these vehicules.

Nhtsa reference id nhtsa reference id. Had my toyota tacoma checked after getting a recall notice in april 2016. Had my inspection done which i was told my vehicle's part needs to be replaced. However the parts are on back order call in 6 months it should be in.Called 6 months later no parts ,kept calling the dealer no response.I started to hear a noise so i called toyota usa and was told if i choose i can have it done privately and submit the necessary paper work for refund. Had the part changed submitted all the documents they called the mechanic verified all that was done etc. Waited 7 weeks only to get a letter from toyota usa saying the work done on my vehicle wasn't in the scope of the recall!!!!!! Its totally unfair that my vehicle was targeted for a recall they didn't do the recall i did and to be told no refund. Then they should have stated from the beginning that they weren't going to refund customers for the nhtsa reference id 14v604

After recall/ replacement of rear leaf springs, with new 5 leaf units, the truck sags under load, rides as rough w/o cargo compared to prior 3 leaf (thicker) set. The truck was not 4 wheel aligned to spec and toyota is not verifying this done, the driveline has torsion wrap or jerky-shudder upon full stop now, as if damaged in the process. The truck with side winds and groves in the road immediately after this work and with two different new sets of michelins (changed the same day the suspension work was done), shifted off lane violently. Costco locally says i am the only one who complained about the tires so switched me to higher speed rated ones (but i do not drive at high speeds, i drive conservatively). A locally well regarded tire-alignment shop rechecked the alignment and found it was incorrect though merced toyota insists it passed their "green" zone on what looked to be off-calibrated hunter machine. From the results of this machine, the service manager and mechanic both stated my truck's frame was damaged (so why bother with alignment?). This was subsequently checked by a body repair shop with proper equipment to be found to be within one dime's thickness different from rail to rail, i.E. No damage whatsoever. Toyota wants me to return to this faulty dealership even though there are two others w/ in 60 miles from merced ca. Toyota refuses to acknowledge the issue, refuses to pay for verifying the dealership's issues. I suspect the spring set used in this recall does not match my version of truck, a trd sport access cab which is 300 lbs more capable in springing if the charts are correct. All combined, the problems are not solved and the ride has become dangerous, one i have to constantly correct, one that follows the ruts in the road and is much much more dangerously sensitive to side wind gusts on the freeways + less load capacity.

When the vehicle is turned on in cold temperatures the radio turns off and shows a error message every now and then. This is the second time the vehicle does it, it was taken to the dealer a couple of years ago for the same reason, the problem was fixed then but it is doing it again.

Horn stopped working at approximately 48,000 miles. After troubleshooting the problem, i discovered that the issue was related to the spiral cable. About 2 months after the horn stopped working, the steering wheel controlled phone function began auto-activating intermittently with the words "talking" appearing on the radio display (this function is also related to the spiral cable). I am very concerned that the air bag may soon become inoperable if the air bag electrical contacts on the spiral cable fail. While my vehicle vin was not included in a recall for this issue, i understand that toyota did file a part 573 defect information report with nhtsa for selected 2009-2010 tacoma vehicles. The vehicle horn is considered a safety device, and as a result of this failure, my vehicle horn became inoperable. More importantly, the air bag will not function as designed when the spiral cable contacts for the air bag fail. I would expect that this type of safety critical device be designed to last for the useful service life of the vehicle. Failure after less than 6 years (and 48,000 miles) is much sooner than should be expected for this type of vehicle. I would appreciate if nhtsa would consider this information along with other related information in your possession to determine if there is a basis for follow-up with toyota motor corporation to provide a remedy for vehicle owners that have experienced premature spiral cable failure that affects multiple vehicle safety devices. *tr

It's been about 8 months since i was first notified of their recall e02 on the rear springs. I was called in for an inspection today (6/21/2016) and told the rear springs need to be replaced. I was told it would be another 6-8 weeks before the parts would be at the dealership and the truck would be fixed. Why does your agency allow safety recalls to drag out for months? Why are there no penalties on the manufacturers to give them an incentive to finish a safety recall in a timely fashion?

Leaf springs have broken twice. First time in 2013 and current. Toyota says my vin number is not included in the current recall. My truck should be included as it has the same safety concern as the ones being recalled.

My 2011 toyota tacoma has apparently has had a design flaw since even before 2009 in the front turn signal housing. The design flaw causes the lense to melt from extreme heat build up in the housing causing the bulb to burn out and ultimately the socket to char and in my case deform to the point i couldn't replace the bulb. Toyota has in september 2011 released a technical bulletin instructing there techs on how to remediate the obvious design flaw. There was no notices sent out to owners even though they apparently knew before they even built the 2011 trucks that there was a serious problem. To do this and not make us aware is criminal to say the least because in the cab it is telling you that it is working and your not aware that your front signal is not working. Toyota has a recall on 2005 to 2011 tacoma's for rear leaf springs rusting out and breaking. When i checked with them they said my vin number was not part of the recall. How can that be. I have a 2011 tacoma and my rear leaf springs are rusted and now have broken. Only 51000 miles on the truck. What does my vin number have to do with what the actual problem is. They have stated that these vehicles have a problem with rust and breakage of rear leaf springs that could cause the broken piece of spring hitting the gas tank. I feel because my truck is in the date specified it should be covered. Someone please help me here.

So why is the 2011 model not covered by t-sb-0044-14? I purchased the vehicle through the certified used vehicle program at the local dealer in january 2014.

A recall for defective leaf springs for this vehicle was issued on september 29, 2014. The website shows being updated as of may 29, 2015 and lists the recall as incomplete. Toyota has not yet formulated a fix for this problem. I do not feel i should have to drive a vehicle that could potentially catch fire due to this defect while toyota drags their feet coming up with a fix. Toyota should be pressed for a solution now.

I was parked at a trailhead, at about 3500' elevation. After the hike, as i maneuvered the truck around the parking lot, i realized that i had little or no braking ability!! I slowly drove around to see if there was any fluid on the ground where the truck had been, and there was no fluid on the ground. There were no warning indicators on the dashboard, and absolutely nothing indicated any trouble with the brakes. However, i discovered, as i continued to drive home, that the brakes had failed and i was unable to stop the truck with them. The truck had to be towed to the dealership for examination and repair. Subsequently, the dealership replaced the master brake cylinder. The replacement master brake cylinder also failed!! (during testing, not while driving.) the third master brake cylinder was put in, and seems to be fine now. Despite detailed correspondence to them, toyota corporate failed to acknowledge the problem, and refused to discuss compensation. They also did not communicate with the dealership about our correspondence. Fortunately, the dealership took very good care of us.

I am writing about a sudden acceleration problem i had with my 2011 4x4 tacoma. On january 6th, i was returning from an appointment. I left the parking lot going about 10-20mph, i drove 1/10th of a mile down the access road when i went to brake at the intersection. As soon as i touched the brake the engine dramatically increased its speed and the truck started to accelerate. I immediately applied full pressure to the brake to stop the truck but the engine was still highly rev'd and i could feel the truck trying to accelerate. As soon as i shifted the transmission into neutral the engine revs went back to normal idle speed and the truck stopped trying to move forward. Other details are that the outside temperature was between 10-20f, roads were clear and dry and the truck was in 2wd. After i checked the accelerator pedal, it was free and clear of any obstruction that could have made it stick. The truck was purchased new in oct 2011 and currently had about 24k miles on it. The truck had been driven about 5 miles to the appointment, sat for about an hour before the return trip home. It was fortunate that this did not cause an accident. After nearly two years, the recall is incomplete and i'm beginning to have issues with the rear leaf springs in general. Two years is absurd! I need to replace the rear shocks as well but don't want to do anything that might possibly mess up the recall fix, if it's .Ever completed.The defect from that caused the springs, i believe, is also causing the rear springs to fail overall.

My truck recently started having problems turning on. I noticed it only happens when the fuel tank is half-full or just below half. The truck finally starts after 4 or 5 attempts and runs fine for the most part. Sometimes when i am driving it kicks a little, like it loses a little bit of power but quickly regains it. When the tank is full it starts with no problems. I have been reading online that it is more than likely fuel related, specifically the fuel pump. The truck is just a little over 40k miles and according to toyota, the fuel pump, if that is the case, should last more than 100k before malfunctioning. I feel this is a big problem to start having with a truck that is still fairly new, and it is not cheap to replace. I am asking to please look into this as a possible manufacturer defect. This vehicle has 2 front daytime running lights. The lights in this area are overheating and causing the lighting case to have a "bubble" in the bulb casing. The steering is very stiff. Very uncomfortable to drive. Constantly feels like you're fighting it. For instance going down the interstate in a slight curve, feels like pulls back. Very stiff steering, especially when turning. Looked up similar complaints online. From what i read, it appears to be possible the intermediate steering shaft. From the descriptions i've read, it's a poor design. Maybe needs some protection from the elements. Like a rubber boot to protect it from the elements. Just very stiff steering and difficult to steer.

Takata recall should be extended to 2011 toyota tacoma. The horn stopped working so i took the car into a toyota certified mechanic. They said this was caused by spiral cable problem with the air bag in the steering wheel. They had seen this problem several times before and said it was a known issue for them with the toyota tacoma, but not covered by a recall yet. Given that this is a known manufacturing defect - and results in a potentially life threatening air bag failure, the air bags should be recalled and replaced without cost to the owners. The problem developed over many months as the horn became increasingly intermittent until it completely stopped working.

While pulling my truck into the garage, i applied the brake. I was slowing down and heard the acceleration traction control turn on and my truck lunged forward about one to two feet. Took vehicle in to dealer for other work. Was told by service advisor that technician found my headlights to be melting. Service advisor showed me problem and said it was daylight running lights. Noted during wash that the daytime running lights have a quarter size melted spot directly in front of the bulb and one lens has cracked apparently from heat and the near proximity of the bulb to lens. First experienced clutch slippage under acceleration in 4th gear about 240 miles into a 300 mile trip on 12/16. Again later the same day i experienced more severe clutch slippage in 3rd and 4th gear while trying to merge onto i-95 and was almost rear ended by a waste truck due to lack of acceleration (slippage). 20 miles later i experienced pronounced clutch slippage at 50-55 mph in 5th gear during acceleration. Next day, 12/17 i experienced clutch slippage in 4th and 5th gear 20 miles into my trip to work on i-95. Wednesday 12/18 i took my truck to champion toyota in philadelphia pa, explained the symptoms and the scenario in which it occurred which is after truck is run for 20 miles and at highway speeds. Toyota tech allegedly drove the truck alone around a residential neighborhood for 5 miles and about 3 miles with myself on board and driving. No slippage was found according to toyota tech. I noticed the a slight slip in 3rd gear while i was driving, although the tech disagreed. Service writer stated if it happens again, to leave the truck overnight and a tech or service manager would take it home. I will constantly monitor this (what i consider) a dangerous situation. I would also like to note that there is a toyota service bulletin regarding defective mexican made clutches installed in some 2006-2011 toyota tacoma 5 speed trucks. She also stated the automatic transmission was not shifting correctly, particularly when shifting up hills, it required her to forceful apply the accelerator pedal to get the vehicle to go appropriately. Again, she took the vehicle to the dealer, but the computer stated there was nothing wrong. The problem seemed to be getting worse, when in early december the consumer was in route over a double lane road over a mountain, when the truck suddenly felt as though it had slipped out of gear, there was no power to the drive train and there was a grinding sensation from the gas pedal. The consumer was able to pull over to the side of the road, put the vehicle in park, then drive and proceeded again. A similar event occurred as she made her way back over the mountain at the end of the day. However, the vehicle lost power again and it did not respond to the accelerator pedal, but it also made a very fast clicking sound. The consumer went back to the dealer, only to be told there was nothing wrong. The mechanic decided to test drive the vehicle and noted the vehicle seemed to be sluggish in the automatic drive position, but seemed to function more responsively in the 4th position.

Recall for the leaf springs. No notificaation. I have 3 leaf springs springs. If i put any weight in the bed of my truck the leaf springs tend to curve in a downward position. Affraid to put anything in bed of truck. Do to this problem i have since replaced shocks, replaced on front driver side ball joint, in the process of replacing front shocks and possible bearing assemblies and front shocks. I feel this is all cause by only having three leaf springs. When driving the back end tends to sway more than normal when driving. The weight of the back end tends to be a problem also with a composite bed, being too light.

Extreme wear and structural deterioration of the rearend gears that causes a clunking and winding sound. The clunk sound occurs when the vehicle it put into gear and the winding sound as it is driven.

There is a high pitched whining noise from the windshield starting at 72 mph. There must be a cross wind. The noise is at a pitch so high that vehicle operation is difficult, and at best highly distracting to safe operation of the vehicle. Vehicle speed must be reduced to a speed that is below the flow of normal traffic flow.

The daytime running lights have burned into the inner areas of my headlight assemblies and it continues to get worse. Seeing as they cannot be turned off and they continue to get worse i fear they may one day cause a fire or further damage. I have talked to the dealer, toyota corporate and they will do nothing and show no concern for the issue, i drive alot of miles and purchased a toyota due to dependability. When the problem was 1st talked to with toyota the truck was only 1 1/2 years old but had around 40,000 miles to which their excuse was that it is outside the warranty period. Please note that toyota knows this is an issue as they have issued a tsb stating the problem exists and the model year 2012 and forward these are re-designed to eliminate this problem. However there are thousands of these trucks on the roads frm 2005 to 2011 that had the dtrl option and the owners can do nothing to stop this issue from occurring or guarantee their and their families safety. When i talked to toyota they did offer to replace 1 assembly if i paid for the other at a cost of $450? Why should i be required to pay to fix their poorly engineered parts that they know are an issue? You can find aftermarket light assemblies for around $80 online and i cannot believe that it costs toyota $450 to produce this assembly, they were not making me a deal and paying for 1, i was paying for both! Toyota should recall these assemblies and replace as at this point it shows that toyota has no plans of doing the right thing and correcting the known problem without being told they have to. *tr

The location of the center rear view mirror on the 2011 (and maybe previous models) of toyota tacoma comes in the way of the front view. This is especially true when you are about to make a right turn, the low hanging rear view mirror completely blocks the view and it is really hard to see the pedestrians crossing the street, causing a major safety hazard. The low rear view mirror also becomes problematic, if the road goes down and then up on a right turn curve, as it becomes impossible to see the road ahead due to the location of the mirror. For anyone who is taller than 5'10", this is a major issue, as discussed on several online forums. The fire department determined that the fire originated from the engine of the vehicle. A fire report was filed and available. The vehicle was destroyed. The owner of the residence was killed as a result of the fire. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was unavailable. Sudden unintended acceleration. Time was 6:55 am. I was on work property having just turned left from a light. I was 5 th car in line to make a right turn. All cars were stopped. My foot was lightly pressing break. The next thing i know, my truck was ramming the suv in front of me. No way my foot could have touched gas pedal...It was a traffic jam. It's like this every morning. I contacted toyota right away. They denied it, but sent out an eng to get black box data. I never heard from them again. *tr

Since purchase vehicle has had intermittent vibration at highway speeds evidenced by shaking of the truck bed, empty passenger seat and steering wheel. Attempts to resolve by: rebalancing, rotating and replacing tires, aligning front end, wheel truing, universal joint and drive shaft hanger bracket replacement, inspection of- rod ends, upper and lower control arms, steering box, unsuccesfull. Just found out about the attached tech bulletin from toyota. Shouldn't this be a safety recall due to the potential for driveline failure? Toyota tech bulletin # t-sb-0008-14 it won't upload due to size.

2011 toyota tacoma truck. Consumer states problem with factory installed running boards *tgw the consumer stated the running boards were too close to the body allowing only a small portion of ones heel to contact the board when exiting the truck. If the boards were wet, one could easily slip while exiting the vehicle. Also, if the vehicle was parked on an uneven surface, it would be difficult for someone to get their foot on the board when entering from a sloping grade. *jb

The seat material is fuzzing up and subject to tearing easily on all seats the first 6 months i owned it

Wrong running lights were installed at the factor. Now the headlights are cracked and foggy and the light is weak and defused making it dangerous at night. T dealer that i took it to told me the time limit for repair had expired and they would not pay for the repair.

On 10/1/2011 while driving 40 mph on dry pavement, slight curve, pu beep in dash as it went into oncoming lane to left quick, i hit brakes "clunk" took both hands to pull to right and off the road. Felt like power steering went or lost a wheel. Would of hit someone head on if was meeting a car or truck. No cell service, so decided to slowly turn around, and try to get home==1 mi. Or less. Parked. Called dealership, they said they would have towed, but if they find nothing i have to pay. I drove up tues., they said nothing wrong. Probably leveling--because i put a 3" lift on it. I now am afraid to drive my new pu. 2,600 mi. They said they put on machine, but no print out as it showed nothing wrong????? *tr

Intermittent problem. When coming to a stop, a harsh bump/lunge is felt in the transmission. At times to the point where i feel as though, i have been bumped from a vehicle from behind. If the brake is not firmly pressed, the vehicle will move forward. Have been told this is normal and ok. Have been told a tsb exists for the problem. Have had the ecu memory cleared to try to resolve the problem. Problem still exists. *js

Spiral cable diagnosed as needing replacement by a toyota dealer in may of 2011, replaced by an independant repair facility in december of 2011. A recall notice was sent out regarding this issue shortly after i had the repairs made. I sent toyota copies of my receipts to get reimbursed in may of 2016. Toyota will not reimburse me for the repairs since the repair order of the independent repair facility did not do a diagnosis. I did not ask them to, since toyota had already done so. The symptom of the issue was a check engine light on the dashboard that was always on. The cable would wear prematurely, causing a short, which caused the check engine light.

My 2011 toyota tacoma 7188 is very dangerous to drive in windy conditions. At interstate speeds (70mph) it looses directional stability during windy conditions. My 2006 tacoma 7114 was solid as a rock in any conditions. I feel that the height of the vehicle causes wind to raise the vehicle ever so slight causing a very dangerous drivability situation. Sadly i have spoken to other owners and they experienced the same problems. This is my 12th toyota of which 6 have been tacomas. It is my very worst nightmare to drive. I fear my only option is to file a formal report to the ntsb as this a design flaw and cannot be corrected at any dealership. Brake pedal began to never be firm and pedal gives way under foot while stopped. The position of engagement of brakes is not consistent either. Have been to dealer on several occasions and contacted toyota corp as well. I am told it is normal and not to be concerned with its safety. Even though they tell me the computer is not communicating correctly. Brakes continually squeal and stammer even after recently replacing the rotors. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2011 toyota tacoma. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, a vehicle crashed into the right rear of them. The front and rear passenger seat belts failed to restrain. The front passenger struck their head on the dashboard and the rear passenger struck their head on the front passengers seat. They were both injured. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed. The seat belts were further examined by a toyota engineer who advised that the seat belt operated as designed. The seat belts were not replaced. 2011 toyota tacoma - brakes are very inconsistent. One time they work just as intended and the next time you depress the pedal, you feel pressure trying to push the pedal back to you and the braking is enhanced to the point that you feel like you are going to hit the steering wheel. Toyota says that is the nature of the brakes. If this is the case toyota has a real problem. *tr
