  Issue: on certain vehicles, the rear suspension coil springs may not have been properly manufactured and could break over time. This could cause damage to a rear tire, resulting in rapid air loss and/or tire failure. Safety risk: a rear tire failure could affect vehicle control. Additionally, a broken coil spring could also create a road hazard for other motorists. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have both of the rear axle coil springs replaced. If a broken coil spring is found, the rear tires should be inspected for damage and replaced as required.

• Fuel leak due to suction jet pump failure within fuel tank (remedy effectiveness of recall 16v-647) investigation as of 20231212

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 79 complaints and several tread (transportation recall enhancement, accountability and documentation) field reports alleging a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, or fuel odor in model year (my) 2015-2020 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles manufactured by volkswagen (vw). the complaints allege that these conditions are caused by the failure of the suction jet pump located in the fuel tank. Some consumers report puddles, pools, or spots of fuel in the rear right area of the vehicle, near the fuel tank filler door and rear right wheel well. The fuel tank either straddles the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler or is adjacent to this pipe in these vehicles. Fuel leaking near exhaust system components has a higher potential risk of fire as the components are operating at higher temperatures compared to other areas of the vehicle. No fires have been connected to this issue to date. Vw issued recall 16v-647 on september 2, 2016, for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank, which was designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system and stated the suction jet pump may have been damaged during assembly. Vw states that this damage could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the evap system which may, over time, accumulate in and cause a leak from the charcoal canister filter element. This recall covered certain my 2015-2016 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles. Repair in recall 16v-647 replaces the suction jet pump only. In october 2022, vw issued warranty extensions (awa-22-12 & vwp-22-12) for the fuel tank suction jet pump in my 2015-2020 audi a3 / volkswagen golf and my 2019-2020 jetta gli vehicles for 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty extension repair is the replacement of the fuel tank. The new fuel tank includes an improved suction jet pump. Vehicles included within recall 16v-647 are included within the scope of the warranty extensions. Should the suction jet pump installed as the remedy for recall 16v-647 fail, these vehicles will receive an improved suction jet pump in the new fuel tank. The warranty extension only applies to vehicles that experience the subject failure. Consumers received notification of the warranty extensions via mail. Odi is opening this recall query (rq) to assess the remedy repair effectiveness of recall 16v-647 and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation as of 20230127

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). • Vehicle stalling - manual transmission investigation as of 20190903

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has completed its review of a defect petition received on 14 august 2019 requesting an investigation of an alleged defect of the manual transmissions in model year (my) 2019 volkswagen (vw) gti, golf gti and jetta gli vehicles. The stalling incidents cited occurred without warning as the vehicle slows to a stop or prepares to make a turn across traffic with the clutch pressed in and the vehicle in neutral.The hazard posed by a vehicle stalling event is manifested in the inability of the vehicle to move with the flow of surrounding traffic. Two factors have a major impact on the potential hazard to the vehicle, its occupants and surrounding vehicles: the surrounding traffic speed and the subject vehicles restart ability. In the case of the vehicles that are the subject of this petition, restart is immediate and the stalls occur when the vehicle is slowing to stop for a traffic signal, making a turn, or is completely stopped. These circumstances substantially reduce the risk of harm to the vehicle, its occupants and surrounding vehicles.As of march 2, 2020, out of the population of 11,333 subject vehicles, nhtsa has identified 214 consumer complaints in its database, with unique vehicle identification numbers (vin), citing engine stalling as vehicles are being brought to a stop and/or preparing to make a cross traffic turn. When combined with the warranty, field report and customer complaint data received from vw in response to the information request letter sent, nhtsa identified 413 unique vins alleging low speed engine stalling.Volkswagen determined that the low speed / idle engine stall was the result of unwanted gases remaining in the cylinder caused by the intake valve camshaft not being in the correct position at idle. The intake camshaft is in an advanced position. This advanced position results in too much overlap with the position of the exhaust valve camshaft, allowing both the intake and exhaust valves to be open at the same time. The erroneous advanced position of the intake camshaft is a result of low oil pressure at idle and high oil temperatures, greater than or equal to 110°c/230°f combined with engine control algorithms in the engine control module (ecm) that position the intake camshaft. Based on examination of returned engines, only engines manufactured at the silao mexico plant were affected due to a tolerance stack-up issue with the oil system of the engines.In december of 2019, vw initiated a service action (24fd) to remedy the stalling issue in the affected vehicles. The warranty for the affected vehicles was extended to december 31, 2025. The software in the engine control module (ecm) will be updated with a new calibration value for the adaptation nodes of the regulation valve. This is a directed action with letters being sent to vehicle owners asking them to bring their vehicles to their dealership to have the software update installed in their vehicle. The letters were sent in december 2019.After thoroughly assessing the material submitted by the petitioner, information already in nhtsas possession, information submitted by volkswagen in response to an information request and the potential risks to safety implicated by the petitioners allegation, nhtsa does not believe that the stalling condition as alleged by the petitioner indicates the likelihood of a safety related defect that would warrant a formal investigation, therefore the petition is denied. 2019 gti 6mt stalls. The issue presents itself slowing down to a stop, where the engine will soft stall and require restarting. This has happened when stopped at a light, as well as when in motion, coasting to a stop. It has happened on the highway, in heavy traffic, as well as parking in a parking spot. The unsafe condition is when in heavy traffic, in rush hour on rt 287 (major highway) coasting to a stop, the engine dies and i loose control of the steering wheel control and acceleration. The start stop button needs to be pushed to get the car to start up again. The car is brand new and has roughly 650 miles on it.

The driver's side rearview mirror developed a stress crack which may affect visibility. The issue was not caused by road debris. Vehicle was in motion on highway.

I had some engine stall problems with the vehicle when first purchased. The engine would cut off quietly while at a stop light and beginning to depress the clutch while in neutral. Happened in heavy traffic on the highway and in stop-and-go city traffic. I brought it back to the dealership and they claim to have reset the engine control module. Upon a few day after return, the engine cut off while the clutch was depressed in the middle of a turn.

The contact activated the eco and normal modes, but the vehicle failed to start. The contact also depressed the accelerator pedal to see if the vehicle would start, but was unsuccessful. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road, manually restarted the engine, and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to suntrup volkswagen (6000 s lindbergh blvd, st. Louis, mo 63123, (314) 892-8200) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

I was pulling up to a red light, clutched in, shifted to neutral and noticed my steering had locked. I restarted the car, it stumbled, and then died. Restarted again, it stumbled and then died. Restarted again, it stumbled, and then died. Restarted again, and then the light had turned so i gave it throttle to keep it from stalling and then got going. Once moving i did not have any driveability issues. It had about a 1/4 tank of 93 octane fuel and i had just driven a few miles on some city backroads. During the stall the gauge gear indicator showed 5>4 when in neutral meaning the car thought it was in 5th gear.

The car will restart. Sometimes after this happens, the car will have a strange exhaust sound that reminds me of a car that is running on not all of the cylinders, or has an aftermarket camshaft. If the car is shut off for a short period of time and then restarted, this exhaust sound will disappear. When the car stalls, all power steering assist ceases. This stalling only seems to happen while stopping and is random. Some days, it will do it 4-5 times in a 11 mile trip and some days, not at all.

Coming up to a stop with the vehicle in neutral, whether having the car in neutral or using the clutch pedal, the vehicle will stall. This occurs in any scenario such as exiting a highway and coming to a stop, or pulling into a parking space, or inching forward in traffic. It always occurs in the final moments of coming to a stop. July 23 2019 is the first date of occurrence. Since then it has occurred randomly happening once in a day or 9 times in one day.

Have had in the dealership multiple times, totaling over 5 days in shop. 4 days first time, at the dealership twice today (july 15, 2019) stall occurs after sitting in traffic or stop-go driving. When coming to a stop, will shutter and come to a stall.

As i am braking to a stop with the clutch fully depressed (at a red stop light or to make a left turn), the car quietly and completely stalls out and shuts down. The dash lights remain on. I can restart the car. This seems to occur randomly but occurred 3 times yesterday afternoon. No engine check light.

Pulling up to stop sign in his neighborhood and he was in neutral with clutch out slowing to a stop and the car softly died again. Restarted with button. - 6-9-19 @ 11:44pm (418 miles) - no cel - driving up a street in a neighborhood going 20-25mph in 2nd gear and the display between my tach and speedo said i was in 3rd and should shift into 4th. When i crested the hill and hit the brakes to slow down for a part of the street that was damaged, the gear displayed switched to 2nd (which is what i was in and hadn't changed). Brand new purchased 2 days ago on 5/30/19 with 24 miles on it. It's a 6 speed manual transmission and when approaching a stop either in gear with clutch depressed or in neutral, car will stall and need to be restarted. Dangerous, safety is a concern. It's a very subtle stall and you really have to be paying attention or bad things will happen. Happening more often now, vehicle now has 122 miles and going back to dealer for more testing. Initial testing at dealer was able to duplicate problem 1 day after purchase. It's now 2 days old! Build date was 3/2019. After driving the car for 30 or so minutes on both city and highway streets, my new gli with 800 miles on the odometer will intermittently stall when coming to a stop. This engine stall happens when the clutch is to the floor and in gear and sometimes with the clutch out and in neutral. It is a very gentle stall - nothing like the lurching that occurs during a typical stall, in fact there have been times when i didn't notice the engine died. This occurred 3 successive times over a short, 5 minute trip home on city streets. Every downshift, with gear neutral or disengaged, the engine shuts off just as or after coming to a stop. There is no "stall shudder" from the engine, and it just revs from 1k rpm to 0 when stopped or while stopping, in neutral. The vehicle had been warmed up to operating temperature. The dashboard gear reporter also misreported the current gear at this time: reported 3rd when in 2nd, or 3rd-to-5th when in 3rd. Again at low speeds, and low revs that would not be appropriate for an upshift. Vehicle bought new this week, currently at 100 miles on the odometer.

2019 manual transmission gti's stall when coming to a stop in traffic.

On several occasions since about april 8,2019 my new gti stalled while i was driving. When the car stalls it does so without warning. The stall occurs as if the car simply turned off. On a few occasions the car stalled when i stopped at a stop sign or when i drove onto my driveway. Twice the car stalled in bumper to bumper traffic on i580 near san francisco. Both of those stalls came at a moment when vehicles following me nearly collided with me because traffic began to move but my car stalled and for a moment did not move in sync with traffic. The stalling seems to happen more as i come to a stop. It has been happening more frequently over the last few days also. I realized there is in fact an issue so i contacted the dealership where i purchased the car. I have an appointment in 1 week so they can hopefully address this issue. I have a white gti rabbit with a manufacture date of 10/18. Vehicle engine stalls when coming to a stop. This occurs with the vehicle in neutral regardless of whether or not the clutch is depressed and happens during city driving. Also, the gear number indicator sometimes shows that the car is a a different gear than what is currently selected (i.E., car is in 4th but gear indicator incorrectly shows the car is in 2nd). I have seen that other owners have these same exact issues which means that these are manufacturing defects in the vehicle. This is a safety issue because the car could stall at anytime making it harder to control or stop, especially in an emergency.

Vehicle is stalling while coming up to a stop at low speeds. I fully engage the clutch and then it stalls. It feels more of an engine shutdown than a stall; i say this because it is a very quiet and gentle shutdown. You cant even tell it happened until you see the rpm's drop to zero.

I purchased a 2019 golf gti rabbit edition (urano grey) w/ manual transmission on 2/23/2019. On 2/27, my car stalls when i am stationary on flat terrain, waiting for the green light at the intersection, with my clutch all the way in. I restarted the engine without releasing the clutch. The revs goes up to 800, stays there for a second, and the car stalls afterwards. I did another two restarts after that, which gave me the same result. The way i get out of this situation is to apply a little throttle when waiting, raising the rev to around 1100. This issue never occurred afterwards, but i believe there is a potential defect in power train or engine.
