NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 126850 [USA]: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator may crack and release the gas needed to properly deploy the air bag, increasing the risk of injury.
Nissan north america (nissan) is recalling certain 2017 infiniti q50 and q50 hybrid vehicles. The driver's frontal air bag inflator may have been improperly welded.
nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver side air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began october 30, 2017. Owners may contact infiniti customer service at 1-800-662-6200, option 7.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 134359 [USA]: An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2016-2018 infiniti q50 and 2017 infiniti q60 vehicles equipped with a 2.0l engine. Incorrect fuel pump control module (fpcm) software may allow the fuel level in the main tank to be too low to supply fuel to the engine, causing the engine to stall while driving.
nissan will notify owners, and infiniti dealers will reprogram the fuel pump control module (fpcm) with corrected software, free of charge. The recall began august 29, 2017. Owners may contact infiniti customer service at 1-800-662-6200.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 119659 [USA]: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 nissan maxima, 2013-2016 nissan altima, nv200, leaf, sentra, and pathfinder, 2014-2016 nissan nv200 taxi, infiniti qx60, qx60 hybrid, and q50 hybrid, 2014-2017 nissan rogue and infiniti q50, 2015-2016 nissan murano, murano hybrid, and chevrolet city express, 2014-2015 nissan pathfinder hybrid, and 2013 infiniti jx35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger occupant classification system (ocs) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet city express owners will be notified by general motors. Dealers will reprogram the air bag control unit (acu) and ocs electronic control unit (ecu) in altima, maxima, murano, rogue, and sentra vehicles, and replace the ocs ecu in leaf, nv200, nv200 taxi, pathfinder, infiniti q50, jx35, and qx60 and chevrolet city express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on may 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall R/2017/305 [UK]: Automatic transmission malfunction may affect vehicle emissions
Incorrect software in the engine control module can lead to malfunctions of the automatic transmission that could affect vehicle emissions. There may be no communication of the defect to the driver (mil) and the defect would not be visible to a scanning diagnostic tool during servicing. There is no known concern affecting the safety of the automatic transmission in relation to this campaign but vehicle emissions may not be to the manufacturers specification.
recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and reprogram the electronic control module with latest level software.

  • Recall 2017447 [Canada]: Airbag
Certain vehicles may have been equipped with an out of specification frontal driver airbag inflator. As a result, the airbag may not deploy property in the event of crash, increasing the risk of injury or the driver. Correction: dealers will replace the driver frontal airbag inflator.

  • Recall 2017375 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicles, and incorrect fuel pressure map was used in the fuel pump control module (fpcm) software as a result, the pressure regulator may fail to open to send fuel from the sub tank to the main tank. Under certain conditions, the fuel level in the main tank could be too low for the fuel pump to send fuel to the engine resulting in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will update the software for the fuel pump control module.

  • Recall 2016179 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain vehicles, a defect in the occupant classification system could allow an adult sitting in the front passenger seat to be classified as a child or an “empty seat”. This would suppress the airbag, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: for affected altima, maxima, murano, rogue and sentra vehicles, dealers will reprogram the airbag control unit and the occupant classification system control unit. For affected leaf, nv200, pathfinder, q50 and jx35/qx60 vehicles, dealers will replace the occupant classification system electronic control unit.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation as of 20230127

Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date. The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition. The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

I proceeded from a stop sign and once i made it to my destination which was less than a 1/4 mile the car started sputtering once i pulled in the yard. The check engine light came on, so i left to go back to my house and it started acting fine. I could smell full in the cabin. I was coming home one night and it did the same thing except the engine light didn't come on. This is the second q50 that has done this. The dealership had to come get the first one because it wouldn't crank.

When starting up from being parked the wheels steer the car to the right while i have to pull the steering wheel to the left to keep the car driving straight. The moment i remove the pressure from pulling the wheel left the car takes an immediate right turn. This is not a front end alignment issue as the problem will correct itself. It has taken as short as a couple of miles or as long as a few short trips for it to correct itself. It has happened first thing in the morning, in the afternoon and evening. This safety issue started when the outside temperature was still warm. When the steering does correct itself i can feel the steering wheel being pulled to the right and then the car drives straight again without me applying pulling pressure one way or the other.

Camshaft pos sensor went out during driving. Car lost power and jerked. Had car looked at by independent service station and heard knocking. While driving on a highway (i95, speed 55 mph) the engine suddenly died, was able to pull over and restart the engine, which now made a terrible mechanic noise. Could drive off to a smaller road where the engine stalled again. Had to tow the car to the dealer, who advised that the engine needed to be changed. Two weeks later the engine was finally changed but now this time they stated that the turbos needed to be changed. The parts were, however, on back order - dealer cannot say how long before it can be repaired. After 3 weeks and many phone conversations i still do not have a car. This is after all a new (18000 miles) >50k car but apparently it was nothing but a lemon.

I have a infiniti q50s redsport 2017 actually have 34000 miles in the odometer. This car have a factory defect that involves engine parts in this case serpentine belt, belt tensioner and pulleys. There is a tsb at this time for this issue but in the majority of cases the cars still showing up the issue. Major issue at this time is that serpentine belt brokes while car is on move. The car needs to be stoppend since engine overheat and also baterry light goes on. The belt tensioner get stuck and pulleys in some of the cases melt down. In my case my car has visited 2 times with the same issue. There is a tsb that pretend to fix that issue realigning the ac compressor. At this time there is few houndreds maybee more cara affected. I think this is a major issue since the serpentine belt broke and engine stop being functional due overheating. This can cause a major accident or other security problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 infiniti q50. The contact stated that the power steering failed twice. The vehicle was taken to ray catena infiniti of edison (900 us-1, edison, nj 08817, (732) 603-9600) where it was determined that the vehicle was still under warranty. The vehicle was repaired, but the contact felt uneasy about driving the vehicle. She spoke with her state's attorney general's office before calling nhtsa. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 10,276. *tt consumer stated the vehicle was parked in my driveway when the power steering failed/malfunction the first 2 times, the third time on may 2nd i was leaving the bank parking lot when it failed again. It was towed 3 times to the dealer (ray catenia infiniti in nj) the car is currently at the dealer. I did contact the manufacturer and after the first 2 failures the offered me an extended warranty of 7 yrs/ k100 miles, i was about to accept when it happened the for the 3rd time again. I purchased my 2017 infiniti q50 as a certified dealer owned vehicle with 4710 miles on it from airport infiniti on 12/31/2018. Since taking possession of the car, i have had three separate instances where my car lost power during acceleration, in which one of the instances nearly caused me to be hit by a semi-truck when crossing a divided highway. I have provided videos to the manufacture but they have refused to take action because the vehicle does not set any dtc codes. When this condition happens my 3.0t q50 accelerates extremely slow even with 100% throttle. The net result is that when i intend to cross a divided highway, i experience a 1-1.5 second delay from the time i push down the accelerator to when the car begins to move, then the acceleration from 0-15mph can take upwards of 5-6 seconds. The resulting feeling is a car that rolls into a dangerous intersection and exhibits stall like conditions. Only once did the car set dtc codes during this instance. The codes set were B130D, C1A16 and po340. These codes set the first instance, but have not set during the past two occurrences of the same acceleration issue. These instances are completely random which make them extremely dangerous. For instance, the car will be driving completely normal, i will stop and an intersection and then when i go to turn out into the intersection, i go into this stall condition without warning. The dealership has had the car 4 separate times and each time they have refused to fix anything on the car, despite having a video of the occurrence and confirming that the acceleration was entirely abnormal. I have no choice but to drive this car if infiniti refuses to fix it, but feel it is likely that it will cause injury or death to me and my family if i drive it. I have attached a summary of the daily log i have been keeping since i purchases the car on 12/31/2018.

I purchased my 2017 infiniti q50 on october 06 2018 from carvana llc. The vehicle was used and had approximately 38k on the odometer. Within 2 weeks of owning the vehicle the rear brakes pads need to be replaced and the rotors needed to be resurfaced. This was expected due to the high mileage on a 1 year old vehicle. Then on january 11th 2019 i took my 2017 infiniti q50 in for its oil change at 43,000 miles with glendale infiniti in glendale california. When the service was completed the service advisor had notified me that my rear brake pads where at 4/32's and would need to be replaced within 6,000 miles. I had the brake pads replaced with the factory recommended brake pads at firestone in alhambra on 6 october as stated above. I did take the car back to firestone in alhambra ca for squealing brakes mid december 2018 and it was also discovered that the front brake pads needed to be replaced along with the rotors needing to be resurfaced. The rear brakes now squeal and will need replacement for the 2nd time in less than 3 months. My car is used to drop my son off at daycare and my wife at work and then to pick them both up and some occasional travel and work for my part time job as a rideshare employee which total 859 miles in december. I have seen complaints from other owners about having the rear brake pads wear prematurely. I ask ed the service advisor with glendale infiniti about it and he simply stated it is due to harsh braking. I responded with is that so because they where replaced with factory brake pads in october 2018. Since the find the squealing is intermittent when coming to a stop and my stopping distance has increased even at low speeds on city streets.

Driving 62-67mph on the highway, sunroof shattered. Loud sound of shatter. I was in the very left lane (passing lane). There was a vehicle that cut me off and passed the car in front of me on the left shoulder which may have kicked up debris when it got in front of the vehicle in front of me from shoulder, but video doesn't show it. It could have been a very small pebble or something. Https://youtu.Be/8mbekwtgyqw

I rented a vehicle from hertz at george bush intercontinental airport in houston, texas friday may 18, 2018. About 2 hours into my trip i checked the vehicle information and discovered that the tire pressure was not at manufactures specifications (35psi). The front two tires were at about 44psi, the rear drivers side tire was at 59psi and the rear passenger tire was at about 40psi. I immediately called hertz emergency road assistance (8006544174) and notified them of the issue. I was advised to notify the location upon returning the vehicle. After making this call i was in an auto accident. The vehicle hydroplaned and slid across the highway, eventually making one or more 360 turns until stopping. I called hertz emergency road assistance to notify them of the incident and was advised to drive to the closest open location which was over 130 miles from the accident, since the vehicle was still operable. I do not believe that this incident was a result of manufacture issues, i do however believe that negligence on behalf of the rental car company in maintain the vehicle resulted in the vehicle hydroplaning. When i retired to the hertz location at bush intercontinental, i spoke with alec, a manager at the location, and he confirmed that it is standard protocol that tire pressure is checked for all returned vehicles. If the tire pressure on this vehicle was not checked i am confident there are others with the same or similar issues. I am not sure if this is the proper authority to handle this matter but i do believe an investigation of some sort is necessary. Attached to this complaint are pictures of the car trip information with psi. The picture from friday when i originally noticed the issue. The picture from sunday at 3:12 was shortly after the incident and the picture at the mobile airport is when i returned the vehicle. There is also a picture of damage
