  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 rogue and 2017-2022 rogue sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.

• Recall 151863 [USA]: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 nissan altima, armada, frontier, kicks, leaf, maxima, murano, nv, nv200, pathfinder, rogue, rogue sport, sentra, titan, titan diesel, versa note and versa sedan vehicles, as well as infiniti q50, q60, qx30 and qx80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 nissan gt-r and taxi and infiniti qx50, qx60, q70, q70l vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 111, "rear visibility."

• Recall 2019459 [Canada]: Visual system
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the rear view camera system does not return to the default setting when the transmission is shifted to reverse. This could cause a reduction in rear visibility if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display. Canadian regulations require that the rear view image returns to its original setting each time the camera is turned on. Safety risk: reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rear view camera.

  Issue: in certain driving situations, a metal structure like a railroad crossing or overhead sign could cause the automatic emergency braking system (aeb) to activate when it is not needed. If this happens, the system would provide a collision warning. If the driver takes no action, the vehicle could slow suddenly or come to a complete stop. Safety risk: if the aeb system activates with braking when no potential collision is present, it could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will send a letter to owners to explain this issue. Owners will be informed that a software update is available for the aeb system. This update can be installed at a dealership at no charge to the owner.

• False automatic emergency braking investigation as of 20190909

  Nhtsa received a defect petition (dp19-001) from the center for auto safety (cas) on march 21, 2019 alleging that the automatic emergency braking (aeb) system on model year (my) 2017-2018 nissan rogue and rogue sport vehicles was engaging in cases where there was no obstruction in the path of the vehicle. The cas petition additionally alleges that, based on nissans actions, the manufacturer is aware of the issue due to issuing a technical service bulletin (tsb) launching two "quality actions," and initiating a "customer service initiative" in relation to it. Cas contends that nissans actions do not represent an adequate long-term solution to the problem, as the action is only available during the basic coverage period of the warranty. Cas also argues that the alleged failures are an unreasonable risk to safety and views nissans communications as not acknowledging the potential safety issue involved, instead treating the alleged problem as a performance update.The office of defects investigation (odi) analyzed vehicle owner questionnaire (voq) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 129 unique subject vehicle reports (for all submission dates) alleging a false positive triggering of aeb. Of these complaints, three were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system, and all three indicating related injuries.In response to odis april 15, 2019 information request letter, nissan provided data indicating that it has received 750 unique subject vehicle complaints relating to false positive activation of the aeb system. Of these complaints, 12 were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system. Four complaints contained allegations of injuries, three of which were the result of a collision. These complaints included duplicates of complaints that odi received. The injury allegations were limited to soft tissue type injuries such as whiplash and bruising.Based on its review of the information identified to date, odi has granted the petition and is opening this preliminary evaluation in order to evaluate the cause, scope and frequency of aeb false positive activations, as well as to evaluate the suitability of the manufacturers campaign to address the concern or improve performance of the aeb system. My cars automatic brake system engaged twice now. The first time i was driving and the brakes were slammed on and a car had to swerve hard to avoid me. Just now going 70mph on the freeway with my two kids in the car out of no where the brake assist kicked on and my car stopped. Luckily it kicked off right after and no harm done. I feel so unsafe now .

While driving wheels locked up once with flash warning, one with sound warning. Happened twice within one week of each other. No obstructions in front of or behind me. Wheels locked up with no injuries. Took to dealer for diagnostic testing ($149.00) with no findings/codes to explain locking of wheels.

On june 10, 2021, i was driving my vehicle preparing to merge on the interstate to go home when all of a sudden the aeb warning light activates and i cannot not safely drive my vehicle. My vehicle speed would not increase above 3mph. I had the vehicle towed to my home. Today i contacted the dealership requesting that they have my vehicle towed for service and a loaner (as this is my only means of transportation) and was informed that i would be responsible for the tow, that it would be 3 to 4 days before they could run diagnostics and they have no loaner. My reality is if i had merged onto the interstate and this happened, i could either be dead or lying in the intensive care unit.

Front end collision at 40mph, no braking/warning, no air bags deployed

While driving at speeds between 30-40 miles per hour my 2018 nissan rogue suddenly brakes with no warning. I did not touch the brakes and there was no other vehicle in front or behind me. These incidents really scared me. This sudden braking has happened six different times between november, 2020 and june 2021. I took it to the dealer(nashville downtown nissan) to repair it when it first happened. They said that they fixed the problem free because it was under the 30,000 mile warranty. Four months later the the car suddenly braked at 40 miles per hour twice within a 3 day period may 27,2021 and may 30, 2021. Around june 1, 2020 i took my 2018 nissan rogue back to nashville downtown nissan to repair the sudden braking problem again. They wanted to charge me $2,000 because it was no longer under warranty. I said that i did not have $2,000. So they told me to pay $182 for checking it. Now i drive my 2018 nissan rogue in fear of someone crashing into me. Nissan should be ashamed for letting this problem persist without offering a recall.

It started braking by itself while i was driving 65 mph on the freeway. Scary sh**. This happened 7 times before i was able to get safely home. It happened even when slowing to 30mph. And the brake lights do not go on when this happens, my boyfriend was following me. I’m shocked there has not been a recall for this after reading online of other complaints and lawsuits. Huge safety issue. This isn’t a bad water pump issue it’s a peoples lives issue. I called nissan and opened a case with them (case # 43890104) for the issue and to try to get my $165.00 back that i had to pay my local nissan dealer. Although nissan is going to reimburse me the $165.00 i paid, i strongly feel it needs a recall for this issue. People need to be aware that their lives are in danger. Please help. Make nissan do the right thing and do a recall.

Forward breaking light keeps coming on for no reason

Several times during normal driving on the highway, the braking system activates for no reason. Once pulling into my garage at 5mph. Once leaving my driveway at 0 mph and twice on the highway going 60+ mph

It has happened on at least five separate occasions and the last three times i was barely able to avoid being rear ended. It has happened on side streets, highway and on interstate roads on various speeds from 30 mph to 75 mph. This is a very dangerous situation and needs to be remedied without charge to customers. We purchased this vehicle so we would have a safe car to drive our children in and this is impeding on the safety standards of this otherwise great vehicle.

Driving vehicle on the highway when without notice the brakes engage. Very scary and dangerous. Have taken it four times to nissan dealers without issue being resolved. This has been going on for two years. Appears to be with front sensor sensing there is an obstruction in front when there is not. After this occurs, a message will appear that states front collision warning unavailable. Better it not be available than to slam on the brakes putting us and the other vehicles at risk.

Automatic opener for the automatic hatch back. I opened it i was reaching for something in to take something out when the hatch came down onto me. It rested on my back and did not go up. I was alone and had to maneuver myself out of the suv trunk and had to manually close the hatch. This also happened to my 82 year old husband and the door when pressed to open, it starts up, then comes down before it fully opens. This has happened more then once. We took the suv to our dealer who said that we would have to pay for the repairs. Is this a manufacturing flaw or serious accident waiting to happen, or should this be a recall. Please advise as we have an appointment may 25, 2021. We have been in florida for the past 5 months that is why we are just reporting this.

If cruise control is set on, there is a delay of about 2-5 seconds when the car tries to automatically break. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The contact was referred back to the dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Driving east on i-94 near battle creek, mi at highway speed in cruise control with my wife and 3 year old granddaughter the brakes applied hard. Had to stand on the gas and was fighting the brakes brakes that were still applied to get back to 60 to keep from being run over. Pulled over and shut it off. Found icing on the front sensor. Restarted car and fault cleared. Proceeded on highway and it worked for a bit but fault showed up again but without the hard braking. Shut off the auto braking which also shuts off cruise control. It was snowing some on that trip. Our return trip the next day it was sunny and we had no problems. The instrument panel has a fuel mileage history that shows up when you shut the car off. It showed 10 mpg for that short stint when we had the problem, otherwise 26 mpg for all the other stints. The vehicle was taken to cole nissan in kalamazoo, mi where they had it for two weeks. We described how the instrument light would flash on and off sometimes before this, but had never applied the brakes like this. When we went to get the car we were told that there was no code set and they tested the sensors and found nothing wrong. Interestingly, we didn't get any sort of service report or paperwork. Does that mean they aren't reporting it? The service guy told us something about the transmission being in too low of a gear and they didn't find a code that the brakes had applied. Makes no sense. This car should not react to snow on the front of the car by locking the brakes or "downshifting". This is an unsafe condition that should be addressed by nissan.

I recently purchased my 2018 nissan rogue in august of 2020 and as of march 2021, i've had 5 instances where the front radar system for the cruise control feature malfunctioned while driving on the highway. The front radar sensor is part of the intelligent forward warning system in nissans and its job is to detect the distance between vehicles. The sensor is tied to the cruise control and emergency braking system. The fault consists of a front radar obstruction warning light malfunction illuminating leading to the disengagement of the cruise control feature (if engaged prior to the malfunction) or the cruise control feature and the emergency braking system becoming disabled. Also, when the fault appears, the brakes are abruptly applied before being released which is a very serious safety issue especially when driving during inclement weather as your relying on the integrity of your braking system. I took the vehicle to my local nissan dealership and they mentioned that there were no current recalls in place for this particular issue and that the system would need to be updated with the latest software update to see if the problem is corrected. I was told that i would have to pay approximately $150 to install the update to the system, which to me should be covered by the company due to implied safety issues. I was surprised to hear that a recall was not in place for this system, considering this has been a known issue since 2014 and yet the nissan company has yet to issue any type of safety recall for the rogue models, hence my safety complaint. I fear that if this problem isn't corrected soon an unsuspecting driver could get hurt!

The automatic braking system alarm sounded and caused the stall however, the vehicle regained mobility. The contact pulled over to the slow lane and continued to drive at a slower speed. The contact stated that the feature was disabled whenever they drove the vehicle to avoid the failure from recurring. The contact took the vehicle to maus nissan of new port richey (3939 us-19, new port richey, fl 34652, (727) 999-6287) who informed the contact that the cruise control sensor and bracket needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The contact was referred back to the dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Driving east on i-94 near battle creek, mi at highway speed in cruise control with my wife and 3 year old granddaughter the brakes applied hard. Had to stand on the gas and was fighting the brakes brakes that were still applied to get back to 60 to keep from being run over. Pulled over and shut it off. Found icing on the front sensor. Restarted car and fault cleared. Proceeded on highway and it worked for a bit but fault showed up again but without the hard braking. Shut off the auto braking which also shuts off cruise control. It was snowing some on that trip. Our return trip the next day it was sunny and we had no problems. The instrument panel has a fuel mileage history that shows up when you shut the car off. We described how the instrument light would flash on and off sometimes before this, but had never applied the brakes like this. When we went to get the car we were told that there was no code set and they tested the sensors and found nothing wrong. Interestingly, we didn't get any sort of service report or paperwork. Does that mean they aren't reporting it? The service guy told us something about the transmission being in too low of a gear and they didn't find a code that the brakes had applied. Makes no sense. This car should not react to snow on the front of the car by locking the brakes or "downshifting". This is an unsafe condition that should be addressed by nissan.

I was told that i would have to pay approximately $150 to install the update to the system, which to me should be covered by the company due to implied safety issues. I was surprised to hear that a recall was not in place for this system, considering this has been a known issue since 2014 and yet the nissan company has yet to issue any type of safety recall for the rogue models, hence my safety complaint. More frightening is it has slammed on the brakes, twice, on the highway with no vehicles or obstructions in favorable conditions at cruising speed. When my vehicle is parked and turned off i am unable to lock or unlock it using the power button on the doors' exterior. My vehicle started doing this after a visit to a nissan dealership (2551 the nalley way, atlanta, ga 30360) for a simple oil change. I took it back the following day when the issue began and they told me they were not responsible and that it was a common issue of my front-door lock actuator failing and that it would have to be replaced. Feeling defeated after trying to reason with management that it was not having this issue before they serviced my vehicle, i decided to leave it alone. However, recently my niece and i were out shopping and noticed that we were being followed by a strange acting man. We took off running toward my vehicle trying to reach safety, but what happens? The door lock actuator fails and i'm unable to enter my own vehicle! Our only saving grace was that another man in the parking lot noticed that we were trying to flea from danger and intervened to get the other man away from us. It was terrifying! I'm not sure what may have happened to my niece and i had he not stepped in and i hate to even think about it. Fast forward a few days and it begins to rain for days straight and i'm left fiddling with my keys to open my door, while also holding a purse, baby bag, and baby on my hip and trying to balance an umbrella to keep us dry. Imagine the sight of that. It's so frustrating! At first i thought that maybe my key battery was dying and decided to get the battery replaced before returning to the dealership but the battery was not the issue. 2018 nissan rouge panoramic glass exploding. My wife was driving to work and suddenly heard an explosion like a gun shot. She had glass fall inside the the car and on her. Nissan is not using a tempered glass and this posses a safety concern for all nissan owners with the panoramic roof.

I would like to report an issue with the vehicles automatic braking assistance system. While driving the car on an avenue, the car just stopped completely with no other traffic in the area. No one in front or behind. The car came to a complete stop and i and my passenger where thrown forward with the seat belts tightening around us. In sum, on 7/22/2020, my vehicle was traveling approximately 55mph southbound interstate 90/94 at harrison when the forward collision warning activated, and emergency braking occurred. Vehicle speed was reduced to 25mph for several seconds, then alert disengaged. There were no vehicles or obstacles immediately in front of my vehicle, however there were several vehicles behind me and within the lanes on either side of me. The emergency breaking caused my seatbelt to lock, and distract me with auditory and visual alerts, and cause the vehicles behind me to slam on their breaks. The vehicle was started while at the nissan facility and left running for a little while as the battery had completely discharged. However, numerous lights on the dashboard were illuminated that should not be illuminated while the vehicle was parked and turned on. These lights included power steering, abs, brake, check engine, oil pressure, and a few other lights. The front seat rocked so bad i had to hang on to the steering wheel when braking and turning. Again, a huge safety issue. After arguing with nissan that this was a safety issue they replaced the frame under the drivers side seat and i paid a $100.00 deductible. They said my extended warranty did not cover it, i really had to fight to get help on this. Safety issues should be covered no matter what, it's their fault. There's all kinds of complaints about this online. I should have complained a year ago to you but was unaware of the nhtsa. Sorry, i don't have documentation. It happened twice - service brakes - 1 in the freeway (55 mph) all of a sudden all of a sudden it slowed down and it looks like it was going to stop , good thing no cars infront of me , and other one in local street driving 35mph it stopped all of a sudden too . On march 31, 2020, while slowing for a traffic light, my vehicle began to shake violently and as i came to a complete stop, the engine shut off. Upon taking the vehicle to a local nissan dealership, i was informed that the engine wiring harness would need to be replaced. This is a problem, in and of itself, because this component can typically last for the lifetime of a vehicle except in cases for which there is extensive damage to the vehicle such as an accident or flood, neither of which have been the case. Multiple external service technicians have agreed that this type of mechanical failure should not be occurring in a newer model vehicle with less than 50,000 miles. It is my firm belief that the mechanical failure of a component which rarely fails point to poor quality of craftsmanship and should be investigated as a potential recall issue as it poses a safety issue and the occurrence of such an issue at this stage of a vehicle's life is highly unlikely.

While traveling at 35 mph on a city street the crash avoidance system started beeping, the dash displayed warning icon and the vehicle braking system engaged with no obstruction anywhere near the front of the vehicle. Engagement was brief < 2 seconds and tapping the brake pedal cleared issue.

I had an issue a couple times since owning the vehicle (pre software update due to recall) where you would put the vehicle in reverse and the backup camera would come up and you start reversing only to realize that the video from the back up camera is in fact frozen. The recall was issued last fall which i thought was to address this issue. Now that i have the new software update, the issue has become so much more prevalent than it ever was before. I am now encountering the issue on a weekly basis. I notified nissan but figured it couldn't hurt to make you all aware as well since this is a safety issue if you cannot trust the backup camera to work.

So i placed in park, turned the car off and went to push start, i rececived a no key detected error, tried again and it started up just fine and the screen was back to working again

On it's own, the vehicle starts beeping, dash flashes a yellow triangle symbol and then the automatic emergency braking system applied the brakes out of nowhere bringing us down to about 15 mph before we regained control of it. Again, there was no one else on the road, either direction, in front of, beside, or behind us. There are plenty of streetlights and visibility was very clear, we did not see an animal, or trash blowing across the road, or anything else that could have triggered it. I have an appointment with the dealer on monday but the service tech sounded like they had never hear of this before even though there is a tsb for it. They basically just said there is no recal for it, but we'll check it out.

Car accelerated on it's own while parking. Jumped over the stop and crashed into a building. Automatic braking system did not stop the car and air bags did not engage. This car has been serviced for braking for no reason and a new transmission has been installed and now this. I believe this is a lemon. Love the car but to many problems. No my car insurance premiums will rise or be cancelled.

While driving my 2018 nissan rogue to work on a sunny florida morning, i experienced a technical issue with my vehicle around 8:00 am est. While slowing down applying my brakes as i approached a major intersection with traffic, my rogue suddenly accelerated on its own accord causing me to crash into a vehicle in front of me. During the acceleration, the vehicle's onboard automated emergency braking system was sounding alarms but did not brake the vehicle. Instead it felt like the vehicle was accelerated instead. A loud grinding sound could be heard at the point of impact with the vehicle in front of me and for about a second or so afterwards. Thankfully the speed was low only resulting in minor body damage to my vehicle and no visible damage to the other vehicle.*dt *tp the end result was i sustained multiple back injuries - lower and neck regions simultaneously. I suspect this is due to the fact i went from slowing down to sudden acceleration and then finally to full sudden stop. Thankfully, i was the only person in my vehicle. All of this was caught on my dash camera including the sounds. The vehicle was taking to bill ray nissan in longwood, fl which were unable to pull any diagnostic codes and have not been able to duplicate the issue. When depressing a brake to slow a vehicle down, the vehicle should not accelerate by itself. This is a significant safety issue.
